So as of now I am going to NYU to see Dr. Kurian, she is the same surgeon that performed the sleeve on Al Roker! So excited, I'm still so surprised at all of the visits I have to do... Seminar, consult, nutrionist, Nurse visit, etc.! It'll all be worth it in the end I'm sure =) If anyone is from around the NYC area and would like to reccomend a surgeon please do so!! I would like to see another just to make absolute sure that I am totally comfortable  Thanks =P

I have seen some people use a tape measure to see what inches they have lost. My question is what parts to you measure? I want to make a weekly report or paper of what inches if any I have lost. I found a YouTube video of a gal who did the same thing I want to do but now can't find it. If you have any info thank you in advance.

I made it home last night not knowing what my wife was going to do. Well, it was OK. She didn't want to talk and I think that was for the best. For the time I'm off the road (I'm a truck driver) I'm just going to be a good husband and let her talk when she is ready. Ok, back to me. So I'm day 4 and I feel great. Yes, I'm going to have to learn about my sleeve. She is vary unforgiving.( And yes, she is most definitely a she. ) I'm going to have to learning all over how to eat. For now just little sips of Water and let the Jello dissolve before you swallow and take one pill at a time of my meds. Nothing big just little things like that. I just want to say one more thing…

Hello my friends! I was just wondering for everyone who has had the surgery or who has ever had surgery, what was it like while you were under? Do you know that you are alseep and having surgery? Does it feel like you are dreaming/sleeping or do you just wake up and not remember anything? Just wondering because out of everything involved with vsg I am only scared about the being putting to sleep part. & and i'm scared of having complications because well for one if couse I don't want to die and two I don't wan't to have to be put to sleep again for any more surgeries! I am just freaked out by it!

Hello everyone! I am new here, I guess I should have posted this first before anything else but I had been lurking for a few days and just got so excited to start meeting everyone, haha. Anyway! My name is Sara and I am 27 and I currently live in SW Florida for the time being. I have a fiance living in Tennessee, Chattanooga area and I will be joining up with him hopefully soon! I currently weigh about 350 at this time and I think my highest recorded is 365. I am not doing good with that! I am so overwhelmed when I get to thinking about how big I have gotten. I started getting chunky when I was about 8 years old or so and have remained big ever since, gradually getting …

Hi I'm new to these forums and I just got my sleeve this past Tuesday. I was a band-to-sleeve revision and my doctor did it in one surgery. The first night was painful but so far everything is going well with recovery. I've been drinking my liquids and had no appetite--yeah! I was surprised that I hadn't lost any weight so far b/c I've been basically eating nothing for the past 4 days but maybe its due to all the bags of fluids they gave me? Anyways, I look forward to being on the boards and not being alone on my journey!

Hi there! New to the boards and just starting my lap band journey. I am gathering as much information as possible. I am 99.9% sure this is what I want to do. I think my biggest obstacle right now is getting Kaiser to cover my procedure. I am 36 yr old, 5'4" and 234 lbs. I have a BMI of 40 and was diagnosed with PCOS a year ago and have been taking Metformin and unable to lose weight. So frustrating!!! Anyway, just wanted to say hello, and I look forwarding to getting know all of you

Am 5'7 and 275. I have never weighed this much in my life and was shocked when u saw the scale. My boyfriend is overweight also and he is the one who introduced me to the Lap Band idea. He wants to get the surgery together, which is fine. I guess I just need justification to the way that I am feeling. I've lost weight by working out insanely, but that was when I was single and didn't have to consider someone else's time. But as I look into the future, when we are married and when we have children, my old work out routine just won't fit in. I just know that I can't weigh this much for the rest of my life, I am scared my boyfriend and I won't be able to live the life with o…

I had an unsuccessful gastric sleeve in September 2011. My stomach was made too small, therefore, I had to get the gastric bypass so I can eat again. Since my surgeries, I find it very hard to eat which is causing my blood sugar to drop. Last night my sugars were at 31. This is getting dangerous. I feel sick all the time. Just wondering if any of you have this problem.

My name is Trina I'm 30 years old 5'4 255 lbs. Although some of that weight is muscle because I do weight lifting, I am still not happy with my stomach area. I have been struggling with my weight for some time now, and after losing 40 lbs on my own by working out twice a day 5 days a week, and then gaining it back after an accident, I decided that not only was my work out routine not realistic, but that I needed a tool! So I decided to go with the band, and am in the program now running tests before my date is scheduled. Just a little bit on ME

I'm Robin and I was banded May 21st. I am so excited because as of today I have lost 16 lbs already! This sure helps to make me feel like this was all worthwhile. I was so worried that arriving at the hospital the day of surgery and walking in I actually said to my husband, "I think I changed my mind." And for a few minutes I wasn't kidding! So much anxiety, worry, and fear of not being able to handle not eating what I want when I want and how much I want! Pathetic right? Well, I feel fantastic. The first two days after surgery were a litle rough. Not incision pain but muscle pain - I think from anesthesia. I have really had no hunger yet, although I know it's …

Hi, my name is Veronica and I had my lapband done January 2008. I initially lost 50 pounds the first seven months and got pregnant, had a beautiful baby girl in June 2009, and got pregnant again and had a boy in September 2010. During both pregnancies I gained, lost and eventually kept a total of 34 lbs and have NOT been able to lose them since. I currently weigh 284 at 5'8", which still leaves me in the (gasp) morbidly obese category which I'm dying to get out of. While I feel very discouraged at this point, I feel hopeful that I will lose the weight again and more motivated than ever to continue losing as I was doing so successfully before having my babies. Did an…

Im new here and I love reading everyone's experiences. I always thought that bariactic surgery was just the easy way out until a friend got the fobi pouch. It's been quite a journey for her and has made me look at weight loss surgery in a completely different light. I am very interested in getting the lap band, but I don't think my doctor wants me to get it and I need her recommendation.. Right?! If anyone can help with their experiences that would be great. I'm 30 and about 260... My BMI is EXTREMILY high so there is no question that I do qualify for this surgery.

Hi!! My name is Veronica, I was banded April 18th, 2012 by Dr. Ramesh Ramanathan at UPMC Magee Womens Hospital. He not only performed a band but a plication where the stomach is folded up on itself creating a sleeve without actually resecting any tissue. I have lost 25# since surgery. I am 78# lighter than my heaviest weight ever. I look forward to meeting you all, and am happy to have found a band friendly forum! Have a great day!!

My name is Jennifer. I've been lurking for a while and reading some of the amazing info you all have. I am 36 years old and a work from home mom. I have been obese all of my adult life. My highest weight was 310, and I now sit at 292 with a bmi of 47. I decided to do WLS for my health, of course, and chose the sleeve over everything else after talking to my PCP, my surgeon, my MIL (an RN) and several people, including my mom, that have had various types of WLS from bypass to banding to Rou En Y (sp?) I am so excited to start my journey and feel so blessed by the outpouring of support I've had regarding this. I look forward to reading more from everyone! Blessing…

I had my pre-admission testing completed on Monday. I got a little freaked out when they told me the inside of my stomach will most likely be so swollen after surgery that it will be the size of a coffee stirrer & even a strawberry seed could be a major problem if swallowed. Other than that I am excited and ready. Is anyone else having their surgery in early June?

Hello Everyone, My name is Tammie, I'm 28 years old in Colorado Springs, Co. As of this moment, I have a lapband but will be having it removed and then a gastric sleeve. I can't express how much I am looking forward to this because the lapband only caused more problems for me. Currently I weigh 221 lbs and stand 5'3 1/2. My goal weight is 125-130 lbs. I am not trying to lose weight for cosmetic reasons. My main goal with this journey is to help reduce my PCOS and infertility. Like many women, my dream is to one day be a mother. Right now, my reproductive Endocrynologist tells me that is nearly impossible for me. I hope to get to know many of you and we can travel these ro…

It has been 2 Years since the sleeve went in. I was 311 and today I am 168 and will never look back. I find that I chew my food until it becomes vapor, eat very slowly and stop as soon as I feel anything. By the way I eat all day long..... Love it Love it Love it. I call this success. I don't often come back to the website so I may not see the comments but for those who are interested this is the best thing you can do. My boss had it done as well but I believe he continues to stretch it and has stopped loosing weight and needs to loose more so you can cheat it if you want my method is working with excellent results. I went from size 50 to size 32-34 the s…

I started my journey in October with my consultation. My best friend went through LapBand 2 years ago and I saw her fabulous transformation. After my aunt died in August I decided this was a journey I needed to make, 30 years heavy was too many. I was initially told it would take six months for insurance approval but everyone that I knew had had their surgery scheduled in much less time. I was excitied and began to follow the rules...no soda, no drinking with meals, 1200 calories...but each subsequent visit I wasn't losing and I wasn't getting approved early. I'll be honest. I am an emotional eater and I turned back to my old nemesis. Anyway, it's 6 months later and I…

Hi everyone, my name is Steff and I was sleeved on May 8, 2012. Came across your site when I was looking for a place to chat, ask questions, get and give support and just learn to live with my new tummy. I had a relatively uneventful surgery/recovery. Not a massive loss yet only 12 lbs but, I'm grateful for it. I am still trying to learn what my body wants and needs at this point. Was told by my Surgeon this morning, to start trying foods. He said, "Take it easy, try one new thing at a time, chew completely and take tiny bites." I was kind of left with a zillion and one questions but, I am so excited to not eat MUSH that I can deal with the questions. Did well tod…

Well I am new to all of this. New to blogging and banding! I am now... 30 days post surgery. I am doing ok... I am at the stage where I have not had a fill but am noticing I am hungry more often. I am not sure if it is just me freaking out or this is the way it is suppose to be... I kind of though you wouldn’t feel the hunger like I did my first 2 weekish after surgery. I hope this feeling I felt the first two weeks comes back. I like not being hungry. Not that I am eating much when I do eat still mostly puree foods and liquids some soft solids... but I just am want that feeling back. Hi all I have been trying to get this surgery for year and a half' now June 12 is just around the corner and I can't wait. Well I really started this process in 11/2008 and I was going to the first seminar at the end of January but in the middle of January I went for my routine mammogram and they found breast cancer so the lumpectomy I had was not the surgery I was hoping for. But after the chemotherapy and radiation therapy and a little time to get back on my feet I got the clear to try it again. As you can guess the main reasons for me doing this is health reasons and pain, I hope to feel a lot better after I lose some of this weight I'm tired of being in pain 24/7. …

Hey everyone on the loser's bench. my name is Amy. I started my Journey in Feb when I got a call from a local Bariatric doctor wanting to see me after recieving a heart wrenching letter from my sister. So my sister and I went in and he was on board to help even though I was uninsured. He said I was too big to safely perform the procedure here so I needed to lose 75-100 lbs and once I did that we could move forward. He told me to call him and keep him posted to my progress that way he wouldn't have to charge me for an office visit. He hoped to meet with me again in 6 months to maybe have a better idea of when we might be able to schedule a surgery. In the meantime h…

Hi everyone, I just joined this place. I got my GB surgery done 21/5 so its been a week yesterday. I live in Oman and there weren't many options to do this surgery elsewhere. After reading about GBS recovery and food stages and Proteins, I am stunned. My doc asked me to drink no Protein supplements, no Calcium citrate! I am on a liquid diet till now that consists of Water, tea, normal juices, broths and Soup. I can drink anything I want without large quantities of sugar. I asked him and the NUT about protein intake, supps etc.. They said no extra supplements. And as for the puréed stage, eat what others are eating at home and just purée it. Nothing about protein firs…

I've been following along here for a while now, and thought it was time to introduce myself. I am a Navy wife soon to be a retired Navy wife, my husband is saying goodbye to the Navy after 22 years, and starting a new career. I have 3 children. We live in Texas. I always swore I would never have weight loss surgery. After my 3rd child was born I lost over 100 pounds on my own, only to gain it back. Recently I lost 80 pounds. Then my Dad passed away which sent my over the edge, and I've gained about 50 of that back. And of course the countless times I've lost 30, 40 and 50 pounds. I'm turning 40 this year and have just decided that I'm tired of the weight battle. …

I can not tell you how amazing it felt to take some laps in the pool (but I can try)... to just be able to stretch out my entire body and do lap after lap, feeling light as a feather was exhilarating!!! 3 weeks post op and I REALLY needed that free feeling! Plus I started the puréed stage today!!! 30 days w/ no food, just liquids and Protein shakes ... Sucks! I had a simple (testing out the pouch) crab salad (I know, no protein .... But that's what I've been craving!!) only ate a couple bites but I was fine afterwards!! Getting ready to have some tuna now!!!!! This makes me so happy! Lmfao A MUCH NEEDED DAY!!!!
