Hi all, my name is Becky, and I am scheduled to have the sleeve done June 18th. I'm super excited and super nervous! I have been considering bariatric surgery for a long time and finally took the plunge.

  2. Started by Blast,

Hi, I'm Angela aka Blast. I recently noticed that after my son's birth, 7 years ago, I don't have many pictures of me. I dislike taking pictures because I hate the size I am. A friend of mine is getting lap band surgery and that's what got me interested in doing weight loss surgery. I do not have much support from other friends or family. Every keeps saying, "Why don't you do it the natural way?" After looking at some youtube and reading posts on here, it seems like it is just a tool, not a procedure that automatically makes me lose weight. I've done a lot of weight loss diets before with the same outcome. It works for a while, then I get discouraged. I would work ou…

I feel and look like a different person. I am more confident, more physically active and strong! I do kickboxing, spinning, as well as the elliptical, etc. last summer I got up on water skiis, something I have not done in over 20 years.iI went zip lining twice, wave runners in the Bahamas, all the things I longed to do but was too embarrassed or too big to try. My best friend bought me a pass to the local amusement park in Cincinnati, knowing I am dying to fit on all those rides agai…

  8. Good Morning, I am really new to all of this. I have a lot of questions, if anyone out there can assist me with procedure. I have been thinking about this for a very long time. As I have been on just about every diet out there. My problem is the exercising which I know to do it but the problem is my work schedule. I work graveyards and I am trying to make adjustments. I know that is a poor excuse but I need figure out to get this to work for me. I need some suggestions, if anyone can assist that would be awesome. My questions are: 1. 9. I am 3 days post-op. My first day was horrible because of gas pain, nausea and vomiting. I was afraid I would hurt my sleeve. Also I was hooked up to a bunch of monitors because my blood pressure sky rocketed. The dry heaves really hurt your belly. I didn't feel like talking to anyone. Day 2 was a little better. I asked for pain and nausea medicine like clockwork to help me cope. I also slept a lot. My Iron count was very low too. I had to get an iron transfusion. The gas pains seemed to go away but I'm still scared of hurting my sleeve. Day 3 there was little nausea but no dry heaves or retching. I did vomit a lot of foamy stuff. I'm home now and I feel better. I didn't …

  10. Hi! I joined this site because I'm having some mental issues with my sleeve. I'm 3 weeks out and I've lost 22 lbs. I've been doing pretty good with not overeating, though I did advance myself to the soft/mushy stage a little early My problem is, I'm almost grieving for the lost of food. I know this sounds terrible, and I feel pretty foolish, but I cant help it. I cant believe how much time I spent eating before. My program, Mercy Health Weight Solutions in Fairfield, OH is awesome, I get 6 months free in their healthplex, and I think that would help me because then I would feel more proactive about things, but I wont be released til June 9th to be able to do that…

  11. Well guys my surgery is in 2 hours. I'm not nervous or anxious but I probably will be when I get prepped for the procedure. So let's see, sleep I don't think I had a decent nights sleep for days leading up to today.I guess anxious is the best word. After doing the all day liquid diet, I'm not physically hungry its more of a mental hunger. If that makes any since. My mouth is dry, n all the above. I will keep u guys posted on what to expect bc I know there is always more information n stories that people want to hear..The good the bad and the ugly!

As of noon today, I have my sleeve! So far, so good. Not much pain and what I do have is easily controlled. I am one of the lucky ones - my surgeon gave me a PCA and a binder without me having to ask. I've already been up walking several times and I'm tolerating ice chips with no issues. Such a difference from this morning when I cried all the way to the hospital because I was so scared! I'll update my ticker when I get home but my surgery weight was 280 this morning.

I only weigh on Wed and last week I had not lost or gained, I was the exact same weight as the week before. I had only been eating between 700 & 800 calories a day. After reading several posts on here I decided my body must be in starvation mode and I needed to increase calories to 1000 to 1100. I have done that for the last four days and curiosity got the best of me, I got on the scale today and gained one pound. Am I doing something wrong? Should I go back to the 800 calories a day? Any input would be appreciated.

I have read so much on the internet about the procedure and life with a band (the good, the bad, and the ugly) and I really think it is the right choice for me. I am going to my doctor on June 8th to discuss it with her and to get her to submit to the insurance company for approval. So the ball will be rolling soon. Went to my second Nut appt back on the tenth. Two other people attended who were also planning on WLS. The nut handed out some protein shake samples and talked about the preop and initial liquid diets right after surgery. One of the guys didn't have a clue about how his food intake would change after WLS. He thought the protein shakes -- the very idea of needing them--was ridiculous. He kept criticizing the nut info. It was clear to me he didn't know what he was getting in to. I was amazed at his naïveté and ignorance. It made me realize how lucky I am to have found this site. Thank you everyone for helping me to know what I am getting in to!

I'm going in on June 13th with Dr. Hart (Atlanta Bariatric Center / Emory Hospital Johns Creek). I was originally going to go band back in January but backed out of it to give it more thought (a lot more thought) and landed on the idea the sleeve would be better for me. And now, here we go. Then had to backtrack and get a letter for recommendation for surgery - Done. And since my o2 stats were low the first day had to go and get a clearance letter for the anesthesiologist after seeing a pulmonologist - Done. Which that part is due a heart condition that I have had for years. So now we come to another clearance letter from the cardiologist after a heart cathe - Done! So finally, see the nut in two days and may have to do a GI test and that's it. About the only part I lucked out with was only a 3 month wait instead of 6 but reall…

I've been thinking about Lap Band surgery for 8 years since a friend did it in 2004 (with awesome success to this day). So I said, "What about lap band?" and here I am. I remember after having my oldest son, I weighed around 266 and only gained 7 lbs during pregnancy. I had a very healthy 8 lbs baby and due to his colic, I lost a bunch of weight after he was born. I have occassional nausea and diarrhea which is so annoying because my doctor said I shouldn't take any Immodium and it makes going to work really tricky! Has anyone else had this problem? I was miserable but felt some relief after my drain was removed. Part of the problem in the hospital was that the surgeon, his team and some of the nurses were great. I'm doing research on this avenue of weight loss and still can't decide if I want the lap band or gastric bypass. I am very over weight and have been on many diets over the years and my weight has been up and down like a honeymoon penis! I am a 41 man and my bmi is 49.5..... Not good. I have no energy and doing the slitest activity has become tiresome. I just don't know which way to turn. I weigh 365lbs and would like to get married someday but that surely will not happen at this weight. Any input is greatly appreciated. Lap band or bypass? Thanks Jamie
