Hello from Oklahoma I'm actually new here and just wanted to introduce myself. My name is April, but I was born in June (I think my mom musta had a lot of painkillers when she named me) and will be 38 years old this summer. I haven't had my sleeve yet, but I have researched the heck out of where to go, which surgeon I'd like to use and have been lurking around perusing the forums. The past year has been crazy for me, I slipped on some ice and along with the concussion, I apparently have a degenerative spinal disease, severe spinal stenosis and numerous bulged/slipped/degraded discs.... Or so the MRI's say. Ugh, so.... While sure, at 270 pounds I definitely need to lose w…

Hello everyone, This is my first post. I am 4 weeks out after having the surgery on April 30th. I have to admit I am feeling good. Getting into a good rhythm when it comes to eating and drinking. I am in the pureed stage and everyday its a little better. I am not sure how much weight I have lost, my post op exam is tomorrow and I am excited to see where I am. I started out at 567 the day I went to my initial surgical consult and when I left the hospital I weighed 521 so I use that as my starting weight. I am 30 years old and have been trying to get this surgery approved by one insurance company after another when I had private insurance as well throughthte state of Fl…

The decision to go through with this is feeling real now to me. I have my first sleep study tonight and I am actually looking forward to it. I will have a follow up sleep study next week as well for a C-Pap fitting and test as well. Or at least that's how I think it will go. I have sleep apnea. It's never been diagnosed, nor treated, but Dr. Nicholson believes I have it so he had the follow up scheduled for me before I even knew about it. So this means that I should start sleeping better now, or at least after next week! I also have my psychologist's appointment set up for next Tuesday. After that everything should be in place to set a date. I'm still going for…

Ok so I am gearing up to have the Sleeve Gastrectomy and wanted a way to catalogue my experience. My start weight is 221 and my goal weight is 135. I have my first appointment on March 12, 2012 to find out if I will be accepted into the program that my insurance covers. Because I live in a rural area I have to go over 300 miles from home to meet my surgical team. I will take a photo journal to document the metamorphosis that will be taking place.

My surgery date was 1/26/12, and I have lost 59 lbs this far. Starting weight was 268, current weight is 209. I truly believe the surgery has already given me my life back, and I am excited about the future. I have had struggles, as probably many RNY patients have. Recovery was definitely a lot more difficult than I had anticipated, though I would do it over at the drop of a hat, if I had it to do over again. I'm finally feeling "normal" for the most part, although I still have some occaisons when my food will come back up. And, I still have some discomfort with some foods. I am fine, most of the time, if I remember to eat very slowly and chew up my food VERY …

New to the site. Here's my story, so far.... 31, married, live in Texas and about to undergo my first surgery EVER on Monday. WLS is something that I have needed for years and have wanted for the last 10, but it hasn't been financially obtainable until now. Last year our company was bought out and with the new company came new insurance, which will cover the surgery! I started researching the policy requirments back in November and it took effect in January, I called for an appointment with my surgeon on the first day back to work after New Years. My first appointment was on Feb 15th after many many ups and downs and bumps along the way, Monday I am going under the kn…

I started this journey about six months ago when I attended my first informational meeting at MMC. Now here I am getting ready for my surgery. I have struggled all my life with my weight since age 6. I have been on many diets and thought there was never going to be anything that worked for me. I had never considered gastric bypass surgery so when my physician suggested it to me I was very interested. She had seen me struggle through the years exercising losing and gaining .... I had always thought gastric bypass surgery was not for me because it would mean I was weak and unable to do this on my own. I am so happy to find out that that's not the case at all. It is especial…

That was sore the 1st day. I'm not near as tender as I was. Incisions look good; all 8 of them. People were great at the hospital. Lost 7 pounds on preop diet. I am so ready to drop these pounds!!! It is really hard for me to believe that it has now been 6 months since I had my surgery, but here is is, August 23. When I got sleeved on Feb 23, I was so worried that I wouldn't survive the surgery & that even if I did, I would end up failing with it just as I had with ever other diet I'd ever been on. I saw how successful others had been & was inspired by all the information they shared about their experiences, but I just couldn't let myself believe it would work for me. Well, 6 months later, I am still a work in progress, but it is definitely working. Most of the time I consider myself to be an average loser. Certainly, I am not one of the people who i…

Hello Everyone, I'm really excited that I found this website. As mentioned in the subject line, I just had my surgery last Thursday, May 10th and I would love to talk to others about their experiences with the lap band and also just to make some new friends I can relate to and vise versa. I'm 23 years old and I've struggled with my weight for my entire life. I've done the yoyo dieting and tried just about every single diet under the sun. There were some small successes but I could never keep it off. I want to be healthy and feel healthy! Please feel free to say hello or message me at any time and I'll get back to you as soon as I can. Also, I'm technologically challen…

If food was a person, this is what I'd say.... (reminds me of the old country song Oh Whiskey, if you were a woman) Dear Food, I'm Six days postop and wow... I never realized how much I depended on you for everything! I've discovered I counted on you to be my lover, my best friend, confidant, my everything. You were never meant for that! You were only meant for how I'm using you now - to sustain life and energy. Our divorce was final May 17th (surgery day) and there's no going back. I won't lie - I miss you, but this too shall pass. I feel incredibly guilty for allowing something so insignificant to control my life for so long... and still called myself a Christ…

For mothers day we went to a nearby steakhouse. I'm only 5 1/2 weeks post-op so I opted for a small salmon fillet grilled with only salt and pepper al a cart. It was good.....the whole three bites! Lol Well at least I have lunch and dinner for tomorrow. It was hard to watch everyone enjoying the salads and warm bread and prime rib......but I think I did well. Its amazing how fear of dumping or causing harm to yourself makes you stay on track. Lol

Hi! Well, this is my 6th day-post-op. Had my Gastric Bypass Surgery on Tues., May 15th. I wasn't nervous because I had a wonderful surgeon, Dr. Mark Sherrod. He had operated on me 2 other times with great results. Anyway, it's strange, I can hardly tell I've had surgery, not much pain. Ofcourse, I can definately feel restriction when I have liquids. He first removed my Lap Band that had slipped and their was an obstruction and then converted me to Gastric Bypass. Spent 2 nightIs in the hospital felt great, walked the halls. My doctor made me promise to take the pain meds when I went home. At home, things are going fine, i'm walking about every 1.5 hrs or so. (no…

Just thought I would say HI. I Live in Australia and I had a lapband done nealry two years ago. I have had no luck with my band. I have only lost 10kg in this time. I am finding my band is either to tight and I vomit all the time or too loose and I am hungry and eating lagre meals. I went to see another surgeon for a second opinion and he wants to take my band out and do a gastric bypass. I was asking about the sleeve but he wont do one because I have had the band. He said that the band leves too much scar tissue and the chance of a leak is really high. Wow I have never even thought of having a bypass was a bit of a shock to me. Which I dont really know why because a slee…

I had an appointment today and found out I passed my nicotine test! Im done smoking but was a little concerned about the one cigarette that I smoked on saint pattys Day. However I do still have to do 3 more months of nicotine tests because its so easy to fall back into. The good news I did receive is that all my blood work came back great! My colesteral (sp) is good, my blood sugar was a tad bit high but nothing to be to concerned about and my Vitamin levels were all good accept I need a tiny bit more Vitamin D. They told me I am a great candidate for this surgery because I am young and have no health issues. I take a Water pill and that is all. I am so glad to hear thi…

Hi there. I just had lap band surgery on Friday, May 18th. I'm still trying to recover, I am still sore in my stomach. My surgeon went through my belly button and it is extremely sore and I can't put on my work pants yet. I've been struggling since I got out on Friday. I try to take the prescribed meds (Lortab elixer) but find it making me nauseous since I don't have much in my stomach. I was suppose to return to work today, but am still having a hard time getting up and down because of the pain in my stomach. I've read others say they're feeling great right after. I have lost 10 lbs since Friday but I find it very difficult to stomach anything I put in it. I have…

Hello! I am a full time student/mother of 3 kids. I have been struggling with my weight since I was 9 years old. I have always used food to comfort me. Well I am now at the age of 32. I am 5ft 9inches tall and before I went in for my RNY surgery on April 20th I weighed 297 pounds. I went on the liquid pre-op diet and on the morning of surgery weighed 285. I weighed in at my 4 week mark and I now weigh 258 pounds and have lost 15inches. The diet has been difficult until I reached the point where I could eat more than soft foods. I feel better eating some protein. I still cannot get much of the shakes down, but I am taking it one day at a time. I look forward to going throu…

Hey everyone, lurking for a while but now I am a member. I am just starting my 6 month waiting period for my insurance. I have done consults with nutritionist, psych, and all the testing. Saw the surgeon last week and she gave me the green light for the sleeve. She wants me to lose 20 to 30 pounds before surgery in the fall. I am a bit nervous but ready! I travel a lot for work and am having more trouble due to my weight. I am writing this from a plane right now. Looking forward to smaller size that can fit better in these tiny seats. This site has been so helpful already. Happy I found it!

I am sooooo excited to have found this site! I am scheduled for surgery in two weeks and ready to go... a little nervous of course. Still a little shocked that the insurance didn't even fight it! I guess that's a wake-up call all in itself. Obviously, my health is at stake here. I am ready to get HEALTHY! I have never been skinny and although it will be nice, my first goal is feeling better and getting my health in order. The pre-op diet sucks, but I know it's important and it will make the post-op diet easier to follow. Good luck to everyone that is going through this journey. Yay for us, we are taking our lives back!!!! Kim

Yay!!!! Got my insurance approval and June 25th is the beginning of my new life! I'm not really looking forward to the preop diet while I'm at the beach, but I gotta do it cause I'm ready for a change. Btw, I was amazed at how quick things went. I went to a seminar on April 3rd and did the nut and psych at the beginning of may. Now I'm all set. I'm thankful for my bcbs federal program.

Hey everyone! Been here, snooping on all of the posts as a nonmember while I've been contemplating getting banded. I took the plunge and registered for the seminar June 6 and my first appointment with the surgeon is June 11. I'm so excited. I have loved the support and wealth of information that you all share with each other! I've been taking notes when I read something and think it would be something I may need in the future I've been overweight my whole life, as far as I can remember. I haven't really let it hold me back, I've still done the things I like to do...traveling extensively, maintaining amazing friendships, just living life to the fullest. I'm not afraid …
