Feeling Apprehensive

Recommended Posts

My surgery is tomorrow (May 23) and I'm starting to question if I'm making the right decision. Did anyone else go through those last minute doubts?

It's very normal...and I went through it even after a year of research and learning and attending classes. In the end I decided I couldn't go on the way I have been. I also decided gastric bypass was not for me. I had no interest in have my plumbing rerouted.

It is a very personal decision that only you can make but yes it is perfectly normal to have doubts. Good luck tomorrow I am sure you'll do great!!

Absolutely! It's elective surgery and all surgery carries risks, so it is normal to be anxious. I have had about 10 major surgeries and I was the most apprehensive about my banding, because I chose to do it. Try to think about how you are going to embrace your new lifestyle and your healthier body. This is the time to treat your body like a new baby, and your mind like an incorrigible teenager, lol. Best of luck to you!

It's completely normal! I was so nervous (and I'm NOT the nervous type!) the day before I was ready to bag it all and cancel. It didn't help that I was waiting for the insurance company to overturn their denial. I had 10 minutes left before the deadline the hospital gave my doctor to confirm the surgery when the surgeon called and said he got it taken care of and surgery was on. I was COMPLETELY ready to cancel and never reschedule. I kept thinking - I can do this on my own! I'm doing great on the liquid diet losing weight, I can do this without surgery!

Then, reality set it, and looked long and hard at my past failures and what got me to where I am today, and forged ahead with surgery. So far, I'm 4 days post-op, and no regrets at all.

My surgery is on the 24th!! I am having the EXACT same feelings that you are!! Like so many others, I too have been mulling it over in my mind for over a year now. I have also been sort of blown away by how much I have lost on the pre-op diet, but I also know that cannot keep this up alone. I would fall right off the wagon and gain it all back. There are some risks, but the risks of being overweight seem to be greater than those associated with the surgery..... or even the possible long term complications! The band can come back out again if it needs to! Just remember that! You are not stuck with it like you would be stuck with gastric bypass or the sleeve.

BEST OF LUCK!! Get well soon!! :D

It is normal :) I spent the week before mindlessly occupying myself so I could not worry over every little (far fetched) possibility or scenario that ran through my mind. The morning of, I focused on my wonderful support system that woke up at such an unholy hour to take me to the hospital at 5am.

I did. It took me a long time to start it and get the ball rolling. Over two years. In the end I just had to look at my boys, and just pushed the ball.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
