April 10th went to seminar for Dr. Bilton in Tuscaloosa, Al only to find out after I paid the $75 that the sleeve isn't done there yet and I'm not about to be one of the first in. April 21st I went to Dr. Dewitt's FREE (lol) seminar in Birmigham, Al. I have to get my 3 years of recorded weight and height as well as recent blood work faxed. Already sent cardio work up. Will have to do physc eval but that should be it. I got on May 9th for the in off consultation and work up for anything else I may be required to do then my submittal to insurance will begin. I'm excited, nervous and scared all at the same time. I have 2 young children to care for while my husband w…

Hello everybody! I've been researching the sleeve for about a year now, which makes me feel like I'm at zero. I was thinking about going to Mexico, but got scared about insurance not covering the bills afterward, other people judging me & getting time off, I'm an RN on a surgical floor. There have been ~6 sleeves done at the hospital I work at. They seem to have a good post-op recovery, but I don't know about long term results. I'm in month 3 out of a 6 month MD supervised diet. Just gained back 7 lbs. If I approved for the surgery, I'll be under the scrutiny of all my co-workers, residents, etc. Grr. I just don't know what to do. I'm 2x the size I should be&…

Well, as of Monday I will be 60 days post op. I have gone thru one two week stall and over all I have lost 39 lbs as of today. I feel slightly disappointed in myself that I havent lost more. There is a lady that had her surgery the same day as mine and she has lost over 60 lbs so far. Between work and home I am too dang tired to make it to the gym; I have been once sinc surgery. I will admidt the inches are coming off. My favorite shirts are very baggy, my boobs dont suffocate me when I wear a good bra...lol The jeans are getting looser and I got into a pair of jeans that I had not worn in a year and there was no muffin top. They still felt snug in areas but were sort o…

Getting too much Protein, and then getting enough protein were my problems early on. I am now 10-1/2 months out and 92 pounds lighter. I could not have done it if I hadn't solved the protein problem early on. I am writing to share what I learned, as my doctor was precious little help. At first I was nauseated all the time and could not figure out why. I read and read, and found out that if you eat only protein with not enough carbs, you put your body into a state of ketosis (like on the Atkins diet) and that a byproduct of ketosis is nausea. Hello!!!! Why didn't anyone tell me that. i started adding more cabs to my diet. Problem solved. My next issue with the …

Can't tell you how glad I am I found LapBand talk forums! I was encouraged to introduce myself, so here goes! My name is Beth and I am 24 years old. I've been married three years, and I have two children, 24 mos and 11 mos. I live in Columbus, Ohio and I am getting my surgery at OSU with Dr. Mikami. My surgery date is June 5, and I can't believe how quickly my 6 months of education went! Truthfully, I have been waiting to get WLS longer than 6 months. I first started looking into WLS after I had my first child, 04/10. I weighed 245lbs, having gained 45 lbs during pregnancy. I labored 21 hours, and ended up having a C-section. I attempted to diet, but the doctors discou…

I was banded on yesterday! I feel great! I have very little pain! So far so good! I'm looking forward to shedding pounds now!!!!! I only have one concern, which is vaginal bleeding. I think the surgery prompted my cycle to start! I will be contacting my doctor ASAP! FYI: I was placed on a 2 week full/ clear liquid diet! I cheated a little during the first week and ate a few things! The second week the cheating was minimal! I did admit this to my doctor 2 days prior to surgery! He informed me that when I was pened if my liver did not shrink he would not perform the surgery! I was told that I'd have the holes and no band! Well after surgery he informed my mom that my …

Cause my sister passed away I gained more weight but my weight is lower than when I saw him 3 yrs ago. I go June 5 for my apt. Praying it's a go. So I had surgery may 15th and it went well, my stitches came out early so healing us slow and I had to go on clindamycin but that's ok. While on the medication you need to eat, so I tried eggs! And man oh man they are great! Make me feel good, and give me energy, and I love it! So eggs and soft foods now:) however I am still not losing weight. Any ideas? I walk every day and do house work. However since may 15th I've only lost 4kg so that's 8.8 pounds. I need to do something to help it go faster! Any ideas?

Tomorrow is my one month anniversary and I have no restriction. I just experimented by eating a whole cheese quesadilla with salsa and I ate it very quickly and there were no problems with spitting spitting up or pressure. I do have increasing pain in my port site. It's not excruciating but it's worst then weeks before. I also started gaining weight last week. (gaining and losing the same 4 lbs) even though I went back to work and should be burning calories there. Is any of this normal? Do I just need to wait for my first fill? Thanks guys.

I everyone! I been away from my RNY family, hope everyone is doing ok. Had a hectic 2wks, persuin some goals I had in mind abd etc. Anyways I just want to congratulate everyone on their decision of a healthy and better life. ~ STAY FOCUS ~ It seems crazy for me tomhe thought that I had surgery 7wks ago (04/02/2012) had lost 52lbs. Saw my MD yesterday he told me that I'm doing great, he also mentioned that he project me to get to 140lbs in a year or maybe sooner and that right there was a huge booster for me. I been very strict w/my life changing decision and I think is starting to pay off. My starting wt was 265lbs, wt yesterday at MD office was 213lbs total lost …

I just want to say thanks to everyone for being patient with my noob questions and giving their support. Have any of you tried the Weight Watchers' Forums? Ugh - that is a quagmire of cattiness, flamers, trolls and b*tches! Here's my story (so far). I'm crossing my fingers that I can have my procedure in July/August time frame. I'm still trying to talk my husband into thinking it is a good idea. He's a baker/pastry chef and worried that I won't be able to eat his "experiments" any more. He's also concerned that this is too extreme of a measure. I've been trying really really hard not to imply that his profession is to blame for my obesity - but it is really difficul…

Part of your journey? I am new to this whole thing. I've thought about WLS for a while but just recently really started researching. I've been reading the forums here for a couple of weeks, but this is my first post. I went to one seminar in my hometown last week, and am going to the next closest one next week (about 50 miles away). I feel like I should look into at least two options before I settle on one. The whole decision making process is proving to be both scary and exciting, but I'm about 75% sure as of right now. It may take me another 3 information sessions to make up my mind, but I'm ok with that. I've been overweight my entire life- so what's a few more month…

I had my surgery on May3. Had a hital hernia repaired, lapband removed, and my sleeve done. Surgery went well. Went in for my swallow test all was good a little bit swollen but no leaks. Unable to hold down fluids they ended up keeping me an extra day in the hospital. I came home still not able to hold dow much fluid no matter how little I sipped how long I left in between times I always managed to throw up. I went back to the doctor on Monday and he sent me for IV fluids, well no luck with that either. I had to go back to the doctor on Wednesday and he put me in the hopital and hooked me back up to IV fluids. Two days ago they put in a picc line and are feeding …

Well it is the day before surgery and I am quite nervous. My parents are taking me shopping to try to get my mind off of surgery. I am nervous any time I have had surgery due to dealing with brittle asthma and now add the sleep apnea to it. I will be staying overnight because of this and really don't like hospitals since I have spent some time in them. I am excited to lose the weight so I am going through this. I hope everyone is doing well. -Rebecca

Hi - I am getting sleeved on June 12 and overall I'm super excited. I've only told a few people - my husband, mom, three friends, a coworker, and most recently my dad. Telling my dad was the hardest of all so far. I was expecting a full on lecture and negative statistics, BUT instead I got a "way to go!" This made my day today and has made me more confident in my decision to have surgery. I love this forum and have responded to a couple of posts, but I feel like a voyeur so I thought I'd better introduce myself. I'm from Alaska, but I'm having surgery in San Diego with Dr. Wittgrove because I've heard great things about him and his staff. I'm just so happy to have…

Hi. I am home recovering from the sleeve surgery. According to the surgeon, the surgery went quite well; much better than expected. I also had an unexpected hiatial hernia repaired also. The asthma is not too bad. I was on O2 all while I was in the hospital so it helped the brittle asthma behave along with the theophylline. Otherwise I am trying to move around to help myself recover. I hope that everyone is doing well. :-)

Well, I am home from the hospital after a successful band to sleeve revision. I had to be at the hospital by 6:45 am, and I was taken back to the pre-op area in about 30 minutes. After having a brief convo with my surgeon and anesthesiologist, I was put into my hospital smock and off I went to the ER. They moved me onto the table and that's pretty much all I remember. I woke up in the recovery room. I remember having a hard time keeping my eyelids open. Anyway, my blood pressure was really high, so I ended up staying in the recovery room for about three hours. My mother was going crazy, etc. My surgery itself was only an hour and a half. After my BP came do…

Hi there! I'm writing on here because I'm in major need of support. I've fallen off the band wagon on weightloss and started to gain weight back again. I'm almost at my 3 year post-op "birthday" (May 27th) and up until recently had lost over 100 lbs. The lowest I ever got was about a year after surgery, going from 287lbs to 150. Since I've met my husband and gotten married I feel like I've blown back up again, teetering at the 185-190 mark. I no longer have my weightloss binder (stupid of me) and I would love some support from people who aren't going to judge me because I did the surgery. Please help. Oh, and I have an appointment this Friday to speak to a dieti…

Hi, Just wanted to introduce myself, I was sleeved on Monday. That first day, right after surgery was tough. Had to keep getting up and walking every couple hours and it was really really hard at first. Only had to spend one night in the hospital though and am home now. That first night at home I had a lot of pain in my arms but that has subsided and I still have some pain in the lower left part of my belly which I understand is the location of the largest incision. When I started this journey, I weighed 472, after the first two weeks of the pre-op diet I weighed in at 455. I say first two weeks because I ended up having to be on the pre-op for an extra week…

I had gastric bypass surgery on March 30, 2012. I'm now 5 weeks post op and down 23 pounds. Things have been going ok. The second week post op I was almost rehospitalized due to dehydration and low blood pressure; thankfully I was not. Since then I'm still struggling to get in all my fluids. Eating has been going ok- but like most of you when I eat, I either am eating to fast or not chewing enough and it gets stuck in my stomach and causes a great deal of discomfort/pain. I still am extremely exhausted 99.9% of the time and I'm not sure why or how to get rid of the feeling of being tried all the time. People ask me if I feel good and I truthfully don't know how to answer.…

So excited! My surgery is set for 6/11/12. I'm a bit worried about my preop testing on 6/5 upper gi. Pulmonary function leg Doppler and bllod tests. I just feel like something will go wrong and ill have to postpone. I passed the psyc eval nuclear stress test and a visit with the pulmonologist. I've started the protein diet two weeks early to get a jump start. I never weigh myself so who knows if its working. I refuse to buy a scale. Ill weigh in at Dr appointments. I'm a 34 year old mother of 4. My start weight was 338. I'm 5'6.5 in dire need of a buddy to take this journey with me. My husband of 17years is not that supportive. He likes fat girls LOL. Hello my name is Judith and I am not for sure if I fit into the forum. I had the lap band with plication done October 10, 2011. I have just recently had fluid in my band so most of my weight loss had been due to the plication. I have lost about 20 pounds, I chose this so I would be able to tone while I lost weight in order to try to prevent so much excess skin. My doctor was Dr Keith in Norman OKlahoma
