He and his staff are first class all the way... Not one complaint... Was nervous at surgery time but was our like a light before they wheel me out my room... My sister said I was yelling bring the camera heading down the hall way to the or... Lol. Woke up back in my bed with no pain or nausea.. What a great day and experience. Good luck to the ones upcoming

I am a Fairly established sleever (3 months post op) and I feel I am doing well, I have lost 50 pounds and went from size 18 down to a 12/14. I am feeling great, I chose not to tell every person I know that I had the surgery, I only told the people I knew would support me so I chose not to tell my mother! She is very happy that I have been getting myself healthy and going to the gym everyday but she is always giving me backhanded compliments like " you are looking great but you gota Lot more to go so don't stop!" or like today when we were comparing my wedding day pictures to recent ones, I was married 8 years ago, I happen to be 10 pounds lighter than I was on my big da…

Hi everyone! I am new to the site. I am currently going through the 3 month process with my insurance and hospital weight program before I can have the surgery. I already had my in-take program about 2 weeks ago. I will have my first session on July 7th where I will meet with the registered dietician and go over all the reading material. I know what I have to do but it's the whole process of changing the way I eat that scares me. I have always turned to food to help me cope wether it was dealing with the loss of my mother at 9, stress, depression. I don't have any other way I know of copeing . Unfortunately, my health has declined because of the excess weight and I ca…

I Went to the Seminar on Thursday and they already called me today. They told us in the seminar to expect up to 2 weeks before they conact us, so I was excited to get a call from the doctors office this quick. She got info on my insurance and since my BMI is over 40 all I need is psyc eval and nut consult but that's it! My insurnace is easy as far as this process. THankfully so many people in my office have already paved the road for me so hopefully it should be smooth sailing. My first dr appt is July 10th, my nut and psyc eval is scheduled for July 11. She said the Dr. requires 2 nut visits so I will get that scheduled later. Once done they submit to insurance a…

Hello Everyone, My name is Ronnivee and I am 43 years old. After several years of being on the fence about Lap-band surgery, I have finally done it! My surgery date was June 12th and went very well. I still have a bit of port pain (burning and pulling sensation around my port area when I transition positions), but according to my doctor this is normal and will subside in a few weeks. Some of the things I learned and didn't expect: 1) Recovery time - I thought that since I only had to stay in the hospital 1 day, I would be fully recovered and life would resume to normal. I was very lucky, I didn't experience the horrible gas pains in the neck and shoulders that most p…

Hi, My name is Kellie and I live in Calgary. I moved here from Texas a year and half ago with my husband and daughter who is 6. I entered the Calgary Weight Management Program in January and got the call last Friday that I will be having surgery on July 9th. I wasn't expecting to have surgery until September so I was in a bit of shock. I am currently on my pre-op diet of Ensure High Protien drinks 4x a day and that is all. It is really hard right now, but only 12 days left of the intense hunger. I hope to find some information from those of you who have been through this before. Thanks!

I got my lapband in May 2010. Didn't have an issue til few days ago. My band is at 10cc, it's the max I'm gonna go. Any tighter and I'll be in deep doo. My primary doctor put me on iron pills. I've been taking them twice a day as instructed. I developed serious heart burn with nausea and vomiting. I couldn't tolerate water without all the gurgling in my chest. I went to my surgeon and after a fluourscopy, it was determined that my pills were sitting in the esophagus digesting. Too big to go through the band. (though I didn't think they were big, I was able to swallow them!) I was so irritated, I felt raw. It didn't occur to me to crush my pills. If you are read…

I had my lapband surgery on 9-4-2008. It went great. In 7 months I was down 70 pounds. That is the good part. The bad part is my band has slipped for the second time and I have gained back most of the weight but I still get sick almost everyday. I have to have an upper GI in order to take the next step to getting back on track but unfortunately I was laid off my job 2 years ago and cannot afford to pay for this myself. I am just wondering if this has happened to any of you. I have the Realize band.

Good afternoon all. I am just waiting for approval for my procedure. My psyc eval doc took 1.5 months to turn in the paperwork. I'm 31 and 310lbs. I am a paramedic and hoping that in the next year I can become a flight medic with the loss of weight. My mom had this surgery and has not followed the diet or the vitamins. Everyone is against this for me. I hear this is the easy way out etc. Well let me just say that In 10 years when I am still alive and health they can kiss my rear. For anyone out there that is getting this surgery because they have tried and failed and realize that the hypertension and horrible Hdl and LDL will eventually = a heart attack and no longer bein…

I have a close friend of 40 years who is very opposed to my having this surgery. She doesn't believe in altering one's body for the sake of weight loss. I should add that she has never been overweight more than 8 pounds in her life. I had really hoped to have her support in this because she is like a sister to me. But, she wants me to try dieting one more time. Anyone else have this issue with a close friend or family member who absolutely does not want you to have this surgery?

Hi everyone! Well I was sleeved one week ago, 6/18. When I first started this journey I was 262 but averaged 255 for the past year. The day of my surgery I was 246 and today I am 233. The first three days were not good! I was miserable, in pain, and had buyers remorse! Then Thursday, I totally jumped out of bed and felt energized. On Friday I was feeling awesome. Saturday was hard because my mom and sister came to visit me from out of town and she cooked for the whole family and I really wanted an enchilda! to the point of almost crying... But she also made me Soup and it was wonderful. My mom left on Sunday but physically I was feeling awesome. I went to several …

Well, it looks like I'm about to jump on the VSG train. I'm so nervous and excited I could puke! I've been lurking and learning for several months and now that I've finally made the decision to move forward with surgery, I decided it was time to get serious about finding a support group. For most of my life I was the the curvy girl that was straddling the line of obesity, at times I was just overweight, but then something changed...I officially became obese. I will never forget the day I was reviewing some of my medical records and my doctors noted that I was OBESE!!! I'm not just talking about one doctor, several different doctors noted that in my records. ;( The …

...I am a woman of wealth and taste. Ok, not really. However, I have been overweight for a long, long time. I am also not necessarily a Rolling Stones fan, but I do like that song. Ah, so now that we have that out of the way, here is my intro: I am married. I have 2 incredibly awesome (and freaking hilarious) kids (3 and 4 years old). I work full-time - sitting on my butt at a desk. I like to read. I like internet forums. I like to spend time with my friends and family. I am an extrovert - more so when I am consuming copious amounts of wine. I also like beer, but tend to avoid that because it makes me feel fatter than I already am. I love to cook and tend …

So I was 9 months out on 5/8/12. During that time I've gained self confidence and self respect and lost 92 pounds (and a great deal of my hair). I admit, I look like a totally different person now and I even enjoy going shopping. My issue? For the past 2 months I haven't lost any weight. I also haven't been trying that hard. I'm bored with "protein first" and "low carb". I still exercise almost daily but my eating habits are in the toilet. I still have at least 20 pounds to lose. So why have I just given up? If someone has some insight or opinions please share

I had my last pre-op appointment this afternoon and I was cleared for surgery on July 19th. I start my pre-op diet on Thursday, it is a three week 800 calorie diet. I am definitely worried about my will power and ability to stay strict through the diet. The dietician said I can have a plain breast of chicken on 4th of July to Celebrate....yahoo I am 90% excited and 10% nervous today! I cannot wait to start the rest of my life. Hopefully this new stage will bring children to our family and a long life of happiness!

Hi all! I have been on here just reading and getting super inspired, but the more I read the more questions I think of! Most of them will go to my doc and his awesome team but I was just wanting to put this one out there...How often do you weigh yourself? I do not own a scale and I do not want to own one even after my sleeve(which I hope to get real real soon!!!) Do you feel like it is better to not be controlled by the number between your two "big" piggies? I am more looking foward to all the none scale victories and all the healthy times ahead but should I only get weighed once a month at my docs office? When I say it out loud it really doesn't seem bad I never wei…

Hi, my name is Joyce and I got banded in August 2008. I did not use any doctor I saw listed here. Well while I was there for my first fill he informed me that he was no longer taking any insurance and it was cost me $250 for each fill. I didn't have that kind of money so I left mad. I would have never used him if I knew that! I yelled at him asking why he didn't let me know before surgery because I wouldn't have picked him and he didn't have an answer. I said " guess you wanted to extra money from my surgery" and I turned and walked away. Well I tried 2 other doctors and they couldn't fill it and told me that my port had turned. So I was so upset about everything …

Hello everyone, I am new here, and just looking for support and advice. I have my first appointment with a surgeon on 07/02. I found out today my insurance company does cover the surgery and I dont have to wait for any dieting period. Of course I still have to meet other guidelines such as a psyciatric evaluation and I still have to attend classes and meet with a dietician. The hardest thing of all is I have to lose about 10% of my weight for the surgery. So if everything goes as planned I could get my surgery in three months...I'm really excited to start this journey. I have struggled with my weight as long as I can remember and I believe I have come to a point in my l…

Hello all! I joined because I needed a little extra inspiration to keep up with my WLS journey. I've been overweight my whole life. 5 years ago I lost 80 pounds through strict diet and exercise, only to gain it all back and then some, which is why I decided to look into the Sleeve procedure. I started my Sleeve process last year, and after all the testing, I'm just waiting on final cardiac clearance and the h.pylori all-clear ... And to lose 20 pounds. This is by far the hardest time I've ever had losing weight. I've got GERD, which makes good food choices (acidic foods are usually "healthier" - tomato soup vs. cream of broccoli, for example) difficult. Any suggesti…

Yesterday was my one month surgerversary. I'm stalling, up & down, lost between 41-43 depending on the day including pre-op. My official loss since surgery was 15.8 lbs. I can eat about anything now with no issues, getting my water in is the hard part. I can't stomach protein shakes though, so I drink plain ole skim milk in the place of them. I get about 48-59 grams of protein in daily with 3 meals, 1 snack, and skim milk. My blog is losethisbelly.blogspot.com with pics.

I am on my journey to "Onederland". For those that do not know this is weighing in the one hundreds. I have made this journey several times and have been to this land before. Each time I arrive I swear I will never leave again. I have been there with the lap band, weight watchers and too many others to list. I love Onederland especially the further west I get. I can only remember being 26 miles west or 174. I plan to travel far west this time to 140. I am not going to swear the never leave Onederland again but feel I will be able to stay west with my new frame of mind. I will be 60 in December and I am 5'2". I have a great family and job. Hello! I am status-post lap band surgery 12/12/05. I have reached my desired weight but it has left my port protruding very bad and often very painful! Currently, it sits right above my waist line and the doctor gave indication that it can be relocated to my lower abdomen as well as replace it with a smaller port. Has anyone had their port relocated to their lower abdomen? If so, any problems? Better? I feel like this is the only solution as my doctor indicated that he could replace the existing port to a smaller one at the same location but it would still protrude. I am self pay and this is very difficult to afford but I also have panic disorder and I cannot live wit…
