Hello All! Did anyone NOT give up coffee after gastric bypass surgery? My intentions are to give it up prior so I get the headaches out of the way before surgery, but was wondering if anyone had stories of NOT giving up coffee. Thanks!

Just wondering if anyone else is/has gone through this -- I have a 30 day pre-op shakes/raw vegetables. Horrendous . BUT ... I have not lost an ounce -- and the other day, put on two pounds (which did come off). Weighing only in the morning, drinking between 60 and 80 ounces, no deviation ... I would love any feedback. Thanks!

I'm so pumped I found out I passed my psych eval today! I know I'm not a crazy person (most of the time) but I had no idea what to expect. Given my history with anxiety and depression I was a little worried at first. The behavioral therapist was very nice and we talked about my history with food etc. There were almost 200 questions on the actual test which I took online later at home. Next stop is submitting to insurance and then my EGD in two weeks! Hoping to get this done before the end of the year so I can start 2017 with a new outlook on life Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

After waiting 4 months, I am finally being sleeved tomorrow! I have to arrive at the hospital at 5AM... and by 8AM I'll be sleeved. I am a combination of nervous, scared, excited and everything in between. I have a great support system home and back at school. I have made it far & there is no turning back now ... Day 2 of my liquid diet and I ate a solid food. chicken nuggets to be exact. and I cried as soon as I was done and felt so much guilt I honestly didn't foresee coming (obviously I wasn't thinking). While I do believe I have learned my lesson, I am very afraid that I have just failed and ruined this for myself. I have 12 days left until surgery (October 31) and I am so hoping I did not just completely wreck the whole process. Earlier in the day is fine but then in the evenings, I get so hungry and the Protein shakes are not curbing that feeling. I am trying to bounce back by drinking Water. Has anyone else gone through this? I just feel so terrible, it's like I lost all mo…

I just recently decided to get sleeved in the spring. My husband was sleeved in October 2015, so I have learned a lot about this process through him. He never drinks with a straw because he was told it will put air into your stomach leaving little room for more Water or vital nutrients. I love drinking out of straws!! So, my question to you is do you drink through a straw post-op or not?

Hi All, I am planning to do the surgery in Jan.. but while reading through other's experiences I could see that excessive amounts of saggy skin is an issue to take care of post surgery. Is that really temporary or will I have to go through yet another procedure for that too .. please advise. Sent from my SM-G935F using the BariatricPal App

I just wanted to come on and say that I feel incredibly blessed to have such a great support system throughout this process. Tomorrow I start my medical leave and get sleeved early tomorrow morning. I've been on a 2 week liquid diet and my colleagues decided to have a surprise Protein shake lunch with me! I feel extremely blessed and wish this kind of support for WLS was shown everywhere! So my insurance wants me either heavier (BMI 40) or to have very SPECIFIC comorbidities (which I don't have). My BMI is 38.8 but I don't have diabetes or heart disease. My best bet is to pay cash - $13,100. Yeah, I don't just have that kind of cash available. I'm so disappointed. I started to really wrap my mind around the changes you have to make beforehand, the changes afterward, and now I feel so let down. Stupid insurance. Don't they realize I'm gonna cost them more in the long run if I stay this big or get bigger!!!? Anyway... I wish everyone else the absolute best. Maybe I'll continue to watch everyone so I can send positive thoughts your way. Sent from my iP…

I know I should probably search for this but for my clinic they schedule your surgery 2-3 weeks out after meeting with Surgeon for final visit. What was your time frame and has anyone ever wanted to hold off a little longer than what they suggested? Sorry for the silly question.

I am trying to put things together to prepare for the surgery and time for recovery. I'm mostly hearing that patients tend to take anywhere from 1-6 weeks although 6 is recommended (at least from my surgeons office) so that's what I am planning to take. How long are you planning to take off from work to recover from surgery? Also, Will you be going on state disability? That's another thing...I have maybe 1 week of sick time saved up and another week or 2 of vacation and personal holiday time. Im hoping to not have to use all of it. Im still trying to recover from having to use %100 of my time when I had a baby 2 years ago. However, I work for a county they require you…

I really think I am part camel! I have the hardest time trying to get enough water! It's not that I dislike it, but can't seem to get into a rhythm with it. On the days that I really keep track I feel like all I am doing is drinking every second. What are some tips on getting more Water in? I was going to buy one of those water bottles with the measurements on the side so I can see how I am doing throughout the day. Anything that can help me get more in! Hi everyone, I'm getting sleeved in 2 weeks! Starting pre-op diet Saturday (no idea what it entails - going in for NUT appt on Friday). I'm having a lot of anxiety about succeeding at this, and doing it right. Not so worried about the surgery and immediate post-op, because I know I can't do much about how my body reacts to a major surgery. It is what it is. But the weeks and months after... I'm worried I won't acclimate. I'm worried that I'll never re-learn how to eat food, or get bad reflux, or will get gallstones. I've done so much research on this beforehand, and I know what I'm SUPPOSED to do, but I'm scared I just will fail miserably in actually doing it. Rea…

I've tried to search, but can't find my answer. For those who were not required to follow a preop diet before the sleeve surgery, did your doctor explain why? I'm just curious and forgot to ask my dr why they don't require any preop diet for their patients. Anybody know why some doctors feel it's not necessary? First, I'm pre-empting this by saying that I am working with my surgeon and doctor on this so I'm going to be prepared, but what was your experience with medications after surgery? Specifically, anyone who was on thyroid meds, metformin (PCOS for me) and/or Zoloft. I take these meds now and am hoping to at least rid myself of the Metformin after weight loss once PCOS clears us (assuming it does). But what about thyroid? Did dosage change with the smaller stomach? Did you tolerate medications okay? Thanks!

Starting pre-op diet on Monday. Surgery on the 15th. The closer I get the more I wonder if I can do it. I have been preparing for over a year. I'm thinking about the cost/benefit thing. I've been drinking coffee since I was 5. Will I miss it? Goes for other foods that will become taboo. I'm excited and have reservations at the same time. I'm 64 years old .
