PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A

Questions before weight loss surgery. Compare procedures, get through insurance approval, prep for the pre-op diet, and find out what to expect.

Hi all, I am wondering is there is any medical information/proved research online that states taking Actigal or any other medication for 6 month post-op will prevent or reduce your chances of developing gall stones due to rapid weight loss. Thank you!

My surgery is Monday! I'm so excited! I've done lots of research and scoured the forums here, but one thing I can't find and didn't think to ask at my pre-op appointment is: How come the unused part of the stomach, that is still in there and functioning, doesn't make you feel hungry all the time because it's always empty?

Hi - I'm wondering if there are tests that are typical for those undergoing sleeve surgery, and perhaps atypical tests that could be done dependant on a specific patient. When at my intake appt. the nurse said they would test me for reflux (a probe I'm assuming) because I've been prescribed medication for occasional reflux. This led to her suggesting that I would then be a better candidate for gastric bypass if I have reflux. This is something I couldn't do as I have bowel issues and I understand dumping is not uncommon in gastric bypass. I think maybe I ought to have gotten into a bit more detail on the issues I do have! I'll have more opportunities to do so though…

My surgeon doesn't believe in supplementing with Protein powders, drinks, etc. so it will be interesting to get all the protein in without the supplements. I have a runny nose and cough. I don't think I have chest congestion. I think it's just a sinus thing. No fever. Has anyone experienced this? I really hope my surgery isn't cancelled. HELP!!!!! Hello all! I want to share for those of you on the fence, waiting for your approvals and those that are just plain scared. Don't psyche yourselves up so much that you're worked up into a frenzy of anxiety. It's a waste of time. Also, don't be like me who three years ago while I was on here I kept reading this one girls total horror story and she was relentless with her writings and postings to the point that I stopped my surgery and regret that till this day. Glad that that girl was deleted and so were all her postings. Some may have complications but it's a very small minuscule amount. But three years later I was sick Diabetic on insulin w fibromyalgia and sleep apnea…

I am in rather a fog...calm, anticipating, and having a hard time believing it's finally here. Is that odd? I've been overweight for so long, I am filled with hope that I will finally get this under control. I am quite ready and totally at peace and happy with this decision.
