Just had my treadmill stress test. I think i did pretty good. If everything looks good, dr will write clearance letter. Just one more step to surgery. Only thing is, for my psychologist clearance, i have to pay out of pocket as my insurance (Cigna) doesnt cover it. Crazy but it's ok. Sacrifices are gonna be worth it. I asked my doctor about how much you are going to cut off my stomach. He said 50 or 55% only . I thought that is not much . I have heard lots of people saying 80% off . What do you think ??? I have been with a doctor to discuss treatment options for my spider and varicose veins. I have approval and all the stuff necessary to get started, but it's a long process. Is this something that can be done before weight loss surgery? Has anyone done it that way? I have heard conflicting responses, so I don't know if I should just wait or go ahead with it. I'll be asking my surgeon next week, but I was curious what anyone else had done or heard about.

So I know that a lot of the time your tastes change, which is probably a good thing, so i dont want to get too ahead of myself BUT.... I really dislike, even hate, a lot of fake sugar (splenda, stevia etc) I dont mind a few Protein powderss with splenda in it thank god, however I thought id be proactive and try a few additives like sugar free torrani (i got the pumpkin flavor) and i tried that today, holy hell it was awful! So now I'm worried, what if i continue to hate the taste of almost all the sugar free stuff? It sounds as though sugar free Popsicles and Jello are really staples for a while. Sorry for rambling, i think my question is, what do you eat if you c…

I'm starting day 5 of a 14 day liquid diet. I tried drinking a shake with my night time meds and it didn't work out. I got so sick. I'm supposed to have food with it. The next night I drank the shake and about 30 minutes ate a small banana and it went well. I figured that was better than just picking something up to eat. Surgery date 10/25. Hi guys, I'm jay. I'm just starting my wls journey. I've interviewed several amazing doctors in my area. But i'm still struggling to decide what surgery option is best for me. I'm torn between the sleeve and gastric bypass. One dr. Recommended the sleeve for me, and another recommended the bypass. So with that said i wanted to hear from everyone. How did you decide which surgery was best for you? If you're already post op what side effects did you have, if any? I just want to know exactly what to expect. Thank you all in advance for taking the time to read this and answer any of my questions. Best of luck to all of you on your journey. Sent from my iPhone …

I'm 7 days into my 14 day pre-op diet. My surgeons office uses Bariatric Advantage Meal Replacement shakes, and I made the mistake of getting 2 bags of chocolate Protein powder. I was actually ok the first couple days. Now I'm so sick of these shakes that I have no clue how I'm going to finish out the next week. I went on BA's website and bought small packets of the other flavors just to see if I could change it up. But the problem is I'm really sick of SWEET flavors. The Protein Shakes, popsicles, jello- so over all of it. I've been make by homemade beef broth and have chicken and beef bouillon, but even those are starting to get old. It's getting to the point whe…

Hi, all! In a couple of hours, I am going to see a surgeon to find out more information about getting a gastric bypass done. I have to be honest here- I'm a bit nervous. It has been difficult for me to come to this important decision, but I feel that it's gotten to the point where it is undeniable that I need help with my health and my weight. One of the main issues keeping me from pursuing this 110% has been my three and a half year old son, who has special needs and has to attend therapies a few times a week. I worry because I might not be able to help him or to be as hands on with him as much as he needs (or even pick him up), and don't want it to all fall on m…

Hello - I've started with my appointments - 1st appt. with intake nurse done, and this Monday Nutritionist. Soon after that Psych and Nurse again. Then it'll be 3 months before I see a surgeon, a further 6-8 months to surgery. So - I have plenty of time to wrap my mind around the surgery. It worries me that I feel even more reluctance to have the surgery now than I did a couple of months ago. I just cannot imagine actually going into surgery and I can't wrap my mind around my life after surgery. Is this a common feeling? I'm very focussed currently on whether I will indeed appreciate the more slender me. I keep feeling like I will regret it like nothing else in m…

I'm 7 days from surgery and I got weighed today and had gained 1.4 lbs! I have been gaining, gaining, gaining weight steadily for over a year now. I would work hard and lose a pound or two, even ten pounds once when I had a terrible stomach flu, but then gain it right back and keep on gaining. Now that I have my surgery consult set up, I am suddenly losing weight! What the hell? I need to keep my BMI up right now. It does me no good to lose just enough to get down to a BMI of 39.9 My consult with the surgeon, and my first dietician visit, is tomorrow. Then I need to have a second dietician visit at least 30 days later. Will it be OK if I lose a little weight between the two visits? Has anyone been turned down for surgery because their BMI…

Please don't judge me but I enjoy my beer and marijuana and occasionally cocaine in very small doses. I'm a very social person and I have a lot of friends and we like to have a good time. I know that my alcohol intake will change dramatically but if I do a little Coke or smoke some weed, how will this effect my new stomach and my tolerance. Just wondering what kind of Protein shakes everyone is using, and what you're "eating" on the pre-op liquid diet. I start my 2-week pre op liquid fast in one week. I was talking with a friend of mine tonight about all of the changes I have been making and when I told her no caffeine she asked why. Ya know I didn't have an answer for that. Then it occurred to me I don't remember being told why in any of my classes or appointments. Besides the fact that it isn't good for you, does anyone know any other reasons why we cut out caffeine ? So, tomorrow morning I will be having my Gastric Sleeve surgery. I am feeling all sorts of emotions, which I think is normal. I almost started crying at the grocery store a few days ago because I couldn't have pretty much anything they had. I was ready to cancel my surgery and have a sandwich! I calmed myself down and got myself back on track. I am proud to say I did not have a sandwich, I have followed a liquid only diet FAITHFULLY for 10 days and have lost 13 pounds. I have a great support system, and am looking forward to being able to fit into clothes that are not plus sized! Oh, man...don't think I'll be able to sleep tonight!

So I received the letter and also got a phone call that I have been approved.. they are just waiting for me to get my blood work and upper GI as my last medical clearance steps. But I find myself eating everything in sight as a last goodbye to food. I know it is not a good way to go but I can't seem to get into the right mind set. Like I am not mentally prepared. I am having surgery in Feb and have been finding lots of great information here! I have noticed that many mention sugar free popsicles and other SF items. I am sensitive to artificial sweeteners but can use stevia. Is there anyone else that does not use artificial sweeteners and what do you eat-especially right after surgery? Thank you!

Alright so my surgery date is the 17th. I started my high Protein low carb diet today. I have 14 days until surgery. My first (probably of many) dilemma has surfaced: I want to get drunk. I'm not an alcoholic or anything...i drink once a week at most. But tomorrow I have a concert and I wanted to drink with my friends before hand. Not a lot and nothing crazy. Just a few drinks before going in. Idk if this is a completely terrible idea or if having a few drinks can slide. I need guidance. Help. Advice. Wisdom. Please somebody guide me. Hi all...my surgery date (October 17) is quickly approaching, and I sort of feel alone??? I feel like the only people that support me is my family. It's not that my friends don't support me, but they don't ask me about surgery or even really seem to care. Whenever I tell someone new, they just try to talk me out of it. It's so unbelievably frustrating. Idk this is supposed to be an exciting time for me but it's hard when I feel like no one even gives a shit. And even when I try to tell people about it, they lack any understanding. I'm just sort of at a loss here. Idk if I'm asking for help or just ranting. My job is not very understanding or lenient when it comes to going to my appointments. I have basically exhausted time off and being able to go. I have completed everything that is needed of me but since I switched clinics my new surgeon wants me to see his psych and then I will be done. I have already been cleared with the one that I have saw but they want me to see theirs. I am truly at a lost of what to do because a month ago I told them that I had an appointment on the 19th and it would be my last appointment and they are refusing to give me that time off. I am in jeopardy of losing my job and I just don't know what to do. Please give me some insight and recommendatio…
