PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A

Questions before weight loss surgery. Compare procedures, get through insurance approval, prep for the pre-op diet, and find out what to expect.

  2. So for my 2 week pre op diet I have to do the high Protein low carb diet. I went to wal mart with my mom and got chicken breast, shrimp, talapia, ground turkey etc. I'm just worried about snacking. Does anyone have any tips on making it easier? Snack suggestions? Things to completely avoid?? Thank you all for always helping me. I've learned a ton on here and it's definitely nice to find others that understand. I have basically no one in real life that can relate Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

  3. I was sleeved 7/22/16 and have had great success. My mom wants to get sleeved, but she's worried her medical history will make her ineligible. Obviously she needs to seek the opinions of qualified doctors, but I think if she heard that someone else had her issues and was successfully sleeved it would motivate her to move forward and make the appointment. Anyone with diverticulitis end up having surgery to remove it (8 inches of large intestine was removed) and then get sleeved after? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

My insurance won't approve me unless I take 5 percent of my weight off in 6 months. I only had to lose 15 pounds and really struggled. Finally, I started being successful at the low carb diet. Constipation was a real pain though. Now I have this constant ache in my lower and upper left side. Anyhow, I was at 312 pounds 2 months ago and now Iam at 298. My insurance (Molina), needs me to be at 294 by this Friday and the scale won't budge! My insurance weighed me in at 309. So 294 is the goal. I am getting upset because this is the worst time for a stall. I need to be 294 by Friday or, they won't approve me. I've done everything they have asked me. Just…

Hi Everyone! I'm being sleeved on 10/28 and I wanted to see if there were any suggestions on what to bring to the hospital. I'll be staying at least a night. I'm bringing a set of comfy clothes, toothbrush, hair brush, some gas-x strips.. is there anything that I might not be thinking of? I'm so excited, but also kind of nervous. Well everyone... I caved and ate food on my third day in of my pre-op liquid diet. I went into Walmart and legitimately bought my Protein shakes and sugar free Jello etc. I paid then walked out to my car, loaded the groceries and said fu*k it I'm going to Subway! I consciously made this decision. I'msatisfied that I'm full but now a nervous wreck that I just messed everything up. Surgery is in 11 days. October 6th. Has anyone else cheated?! eriirosee

Hi guys, I'm entering into my final week before I am sleeved on Monday, October 10. I am very excited and wanted to see if any of you had any recommendations of things I should get prior to surgery? I feel prepared for all of the liquid prep, but maybe there are some non-food things that will make life easier for this journey. I have seen some discuss buying the little 4oz cups from Wal-Mart, some have mentioned purchasing baby sippy cups to ensure you don't swallow too much at one time. If any of you have any ideas, please share them with me. I look forward to hearing from everyone! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

So after struggling for more than 25 years with my weight I've finally gotten up the nerve to have the surgery. I am nervous to say the least, I am not only nervous about the surgery but I'm nervous about being approved for it. I'm very thankful that my insurance covers all but 10% . I have my first appointment October 5th to see my primary care doctor, I started a low carb high Protein diet a few months ago and have not had good results at all, I think that at 46 my metabolism has run away to join the circus! I eat healthy , I control my portions and I work out daily. So I'm at a loss, well non-loss actually . Anyone else out there have the same concerns and issues?? …

Nothing too expensive, something that I can tell time, maybe a stopwatch, if possible I can see my text (though Im not opposed to one that doesn't) and sleep patterns which is important. I was looking at Apple watches (I get a discount) but I'm not 100 percent sold. Any ideas? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

  20. So my first consult with the surgeon was this past friday . I am so excited for whats to come. While we did discuss the different types and the benefits of each surgery; I feel as though he was trying to push me to have RNY instead of VSG. But he said as long as I don't have severe reflux getting the sleeve should be okay. I was discussing the surgery with my husband again and he has some concerns with getting a part of my stomach removed. He was very supportive in the beginning but now he doesn't want me to do it, he says its too much of a risk

  21. I'm currently in the pre-op stages of getting weight loss surgery. I have done all the pre-op tests and have been cleared to get a date assigned. The only thing now is that I haven't made the final decision to go through with this. The reason for this uncertainty is the following: I started to work on changing my eating habits and to work on nutrition and getting more physical activity in since back in January 2016. I have successfully lost around 120 lbs up to this month of September. My doctor and others have mentioned that perhaps working on losing more weight on my own with the habit changes I have been making should be something I should continue, and to post-p…

Is anyone else tired of their weight defining who you are? I exceeded the capacity of my 300 pound scale about 3 years ago. According to my doctors scale I was 315 last April. If all goes well then tomorrow I will have utter glee adding lead to my scale as large chunks exit the back of my scale. It should be quite therapeutic! I've also decided that nobody else needs to know my weight either including my doctor. I have a commercial driver's license that I will have to step on a scale for ever two years as a requirement for my medical card but everyone else can pound sand. All I care about is being happy with myself and that damn scale sure never did.

This is why I'm getting sleeved!) makes me worry a bit I've waited almost 6 months and cleared every other test... anyone else have this issue and get cleared after the nuclear testing? 37. Well, the day has arrived. I have to be at the hospital at 10:30, so we will head out that way in an hour or so. I didn't make it to 100 pounds down, but I have lost 99 pounds in my six-month pre-op diet journey. I am pleased with that. My body just doesn't want to give me that last pound. The last 3 days with liquids weren't that bad at all, but I am convinced that re-establishing my relationship with food over the past six months made that experience (which sucks under any situation) so much better than just going into it straight from an "anything goes" diet. (And 14 days of having to do that would be so difficult even with the preparation.) I am certainly fill…

They're looking at the weekend of and the weekend after my surgery. Obviously I can't go for a while after surgery and without telling them what's going on, I feel like we are just blowing them off. Can you do a tomato based Soup if it's very thin? I'm just a wondering bc I hear people here saying they drink V8 during the liquids phase so it's kind of similar sounding to me. Any thoughts?
