Hello everyone, I am new here. I am scheduled for the sleeve on October 17th. I was originally scheduled for September 20th but I messed up on my meds; I have lupus; and was suppose to have 2 weeks off my autoimmune suppressant and I took a week that I wasn't supposed to so the surgery was rescheduled for October 17th. I look forward to meeting people that are going through the same situation I am and we can support each other. I am located in Michigan and I'm having my surgery at Henry Ford in downtown Detroit. Anyone else going through Henry Ford? My surgeon is Dr. Genaw. I start my liquid diet a week before surgery. Good luck to all hope everyone's journey is a…

I took a look over at the post op boards and some of what people were saying has me second guessing the amount of time I plan on taking off. I am a teacher and my time off is unpaid. I only planned on taking off one week. Any advice? Am I crazy? TIA Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

  17. Convinced scale is absolutely not accurate. I'm finishing the first week of my liquid preop diet. Went in at 262 only one cheat early on of a veg only salad no dressing and 2oz of grilled chicken. Day 7 I gained a half pound no can't be right...weighs again 258. Weighs again. Anyways I got variations of 256-262.5. In minutes. I'm sticking it in the closet I think. Most days I don't even get the 5 shakes in. Sighs. Sent from my 5054N using the BariatricPal App

  24. So Im having my sleeve surgery on October 5th. And my boyfriend mentioned us going to this outdoor event on October 14th, about a week or so after my surgery. I told him that was fine as long as Im able to get up and walk around fine. He kinda smarted off and said, "you act like this is a major surgery or something." Ugh. Makes me so mad. Its like hes taking this lightly and not seriously and idk what to say to him. It kinda hurt my feelings. Any advice? Sent from my SM-G900P using the BariatricPal App

Hi everyone! I am scheduled for sleeve surgery on October the 3rd. I am on the 6th day of my surgeon's strick pre-op diet: protien shakes and broth. I am soooo cranky! My poor husband! My poor kids!!! I am usually a VERY happy-go-lucky person, cool and calm, and hardly anything would light my temper. My husband alsways said he appreciates my low to no temper. Well, I am now wondering if that "cool as a cucumber" personality was due to food and being able to enjoy it. Now, being restricted and having to drink these shakes for calories, I am so irritable. Last night I was in bed at 10 reading, then came out to the kitchen at 11 for some Water and saw my 13 y/o son wa…

I am scheduled for surgery this cming Tuesday. I've worked hard to get to this point. This weight I've lost now let's my belly skin lay against my other skin. On Friday (of course after the office had closed) I realized I had a fairly significant yeast infection. I had thought it was just a heat rash. I called the service but neither of the weight loss surgeons were on call. The Dr. I spoke with told me what to use and I started that night. It is better but is still there. Anybody out there with any experience with this? Will my surgery now be a no go? Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N910A using the BariatricPal App

I am considering vsg and I'm having trouble making a decision. My reasons for wanting it are back pain, lack of energy and yes, vanity. I feel like if I don't have the surgery that I will just continue gaining weight , and eventually my BMI will be much higher, and I will have wished I had addressed the problem earlier. Also, if I do have the surgery, I want to keep it secret from everyone but my family because I fear being judged. Any thoughts?

Firstly I am delighted that I have found this forum it has really helped reading about the diverse views and experiences. Thank you all for being so honest. Here is my story so far... Moment of truth. Decision made..... I live in UK and have a job I love, but it can be a huge pressure. My work takes me away from home quite often, in the UK to the US and the Far East. Over the years that has taken its toll eating the wrong food, at the wrong times. (And maybe a tipple or two) For a big guy I am quite fit but over the last years have found more aches and pains, to the point I felt the need to visit my doctor, something I don't normally do. I did this 10 days ago. Lon…

  41. I guess I should now be over on the POST gb forum, but I wanted to post this here so that people about to get the surgery know what it might be like. I was sooo nervous and sooo emotional! I had no IDEA how much of a hold, food has over me! Since I use it to cope, I've been crying a lot lately. I really need to get some psychiatric help so that I can find a healthy outlet for my emotions instead of using food. Other than that, my surgery went amazing! I was in there for 3 and a half hours. It was done laparoscopically and it took so long because I have a LOT of scar tissue in that area from previous surgeries. I woke up in hardly any pain and never really HAD any pain at…

  43. I've been doing the standard insurance required hoop jumping since June... I have Humana National POS, which required 1 nutrition visit with an RD, and 3 additional weight loss visits. My plan stated the 3 WL visits could be done with an MD, NP, PA, CNM/OB, or RD. My surgeon's office employees an RD, so for convenience I stayed there. Luckily, I could do the nutrition visit and first WL visit on the same day. The ironic thing about these WL visits was that I couldn't lose weight bc the RD was afraid I would not be approved. My starting BMI was 41. I also had to have 9 labs (cbc, hgb a1c, H pylori, tsh, cmp, Vitamin D, iron/tibc, and lipids), an EKG, upper GI and …
