Is it at all reasonable to plan a weekend ski trip one month post op? After reading many peoples experience it seems that most are still in pretty bad shape by this time. I don't have my surgery date but it seems likely to be early to mid-November. Made plans with family to go on a short ski trip around December 19th not realizing at the time this would be my likely surgery time-line. Now not sure what to do as I'm not telling them about my surgery. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

I'm excited and want to lose as much weight as I can before the surgery and work out so that I can be strong going into it since I won't be able to work out for 6 weeks after. My high weight was 226 and my current weight is 207. I would love to be at 200 or right under going into the surgery to increase my chances of doing really well. Has anyone had this experience going into the surgery? Any advice? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

HI ! So earlier in the week I posted saying how discouraged I was because i couldn't find 2014 doctor records to send to my insurance. Someone (drawing a blank on the username) told me to brainstorm hard, and I did, and I found 2014 records and got approved!! Yay!! Monday they are calling me for a surgery date!! I'm so thrilled! But I do have some questions if anyone is willing to help me 1. I was told not to gain weight before surgery because it can postpone the date. I weighed 250 in June when I began this journey and currently weigh 254. I know when I do the pre op diet I will lose the 4 pounds. But do you guys think I should try to lose the 4 before I meet with my …

I have read that the largest incision is on the left side. Is it higher, like under the breast area or lower, more toward the waist? Do/did anyone cook and freeze homemade broths, Soups and soft foods for the post-op diet? I'm certain the foods I make would have superior nutrition and I could add unflavored Protein powder to most any dish. Seems like it would be a thrifty option as well. This just came to me as I was whipping up some split pea soup in my electric pressure cooker. CW 227 5'5" 61yrs

2 more days of this liquid diet, 1 day of clear liquids then I go in! I'm not a scared as I thought I would be. My husband has finally told me how he feels. He doesn't want me to do this. He insists I can lose the weight with diet and exercise. Yet, he says he supports me. Well, despite how he feels, I am foing this. This is for me and my health. Why do people wait until the last minute to voice their opinions and try to make you feel horrible? Sent from my LGMS428 using the BariatricPal App

I am beyond frustrated with Aetna and the nurse who is reviewing my file. Today was the 16th business day since my paperwork was sent over and it is still in a pending status. I don't want to be a pain but I have left the nurse 2 voicemails and have heard nothing. I need a date so I can put in my FMLA paperwork. My surgeon won't give a date until I am approved. Anyone else have this issue with their insurance company? I don't know what else to do. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I was starving to death. I have been starving all week and nothing was just making me feel full. It was horrible. So I cheated. I now feel so guilty, and when I logged in and seen how many calories and carbs were in what I ate I feel even worse! I had chicken tenders and fries.... I have surgery Thursday and some days I feel like I am not strong enough and I am scared. I hate that food controls my life like this. Am I the only one who has cheated? Please share what foods you ate during the pureed and soft food stages. Post surgery, I will be full liquids for 2 weeks, then pureed for 2 weeks, followed by soft foods for 2 weeks. After that, I will be on regular foods. I'm sure I will have to rely on Protein powder as so many meats are hard to puree without adding liquid, sauces or gravies. Does anybody know of a good place to find recipes? Thank you for your thoughts and recommendations.

In the middle of our family's traditional 'last nite before school starts 'dinner I was out flanked and seriously assaulted by my underwire bra! It was a surprise attack. Previous recon on the offending underwire gave no hint of an impending an attack. Damage to the bra's current left side resident is still being assessed. Names withheld pending notification to other resident. The hostile underwire is being held by canine special forces after being delicately removed, cussed at, thrown to the floor. The Yorkie and Maltipoo are on hostile undergarment security detail until further notice. Seriously though, I really didn't wanna buy a new bra till it didn't fit…

Well, my last NUT appt is next week! The final step. Or so I thought. When I met my surgeon the first time, it was determined that I didn't need an EGD. For 2 years, I dealt with esophageal strictures. It started after I got really sick in Afghanistan. From 2012-2014, I had several EGDs and my esophagus dialated about 5X. I've been good since early 2014, not even really dealing with GERD symptoms. Out of nowhere, about 2 weeks ago, I started having swallowing problems AGAIN! liquid is the most difficult. It's been waking me up around 0200-0300 every morning. I constantly feel like I have a lump in my throat. I tried to make an appt with my PCM today, to see if …

I wish someone had told me that I would not feel full or satisfied the same way I did before surgery. Now instead of feeling it in my stomach I feel like there's food in my esophagus. It's a difficult thing to adjust to but I guess I will just have to learn to adapt.

Holy crap! I can't believe how fast this process has been. I saw my surgeon for my very first visit 7.25.16. Now October 6th is my surgery date. Wow. It flew by... I never thought in a Million years I'd ever consider surgery. I kept saying I'd work it off and I did at one point lose 70 lbs on my own. Then I got pregnant and gained 80. Since then I just can't get ahead of it. I'm now 330lbs (did i just share that with a bunch of strangers??). I go in and out of mixed emotions but I'm so Ready. I'm actually looking forward to the liquid diet. I want to cleanse my system. I'm sure that'll change a few days in!! Well here goes nothing!!! Life changes and permanent solut…

Ok so I have about a month to get everything together before my next appointment with my surgeon. I don't have to do a 6 months diet so that's great but I do have to get myself mentally ready for what's to come. Nutrition is my main concern and I did explain that to my NUT. I want to make sure I have the tools to make my new tool work for me. I'm excite but nervous. I'm also happy I found this app. I've spent so much time reading a lot of ppl messages. I saw a segment this morning on the today show regarding a 4 year study they did comparing a thin person's brain to an obese person's brain. After eating a meal until feeling full, the thin person's brain hardly had any activity but the obese person's brain acted like it had not eaten yet. They stated they now have biological confirmation that we are wired differently. In the segment they said that when weight-loss surgery is done, the obese brain reacts like the thin person's brain but only for the first year. The brain reverts back to its old self after a year. Scary!!! I know I have to totally change my eating habits but I sure hope Im not one of many who gain back.…

So I was talking to someone today about the Gastric Bypass surgery and she had it about 8 years ago. She just kept telling me well you know your going to have loose skin. A lot of it. I'm just telling you because a lot of pool don't think they will. But you will have a lot of loose skin. Ok lady thank you I heard you the 14 th time. I know I will have loose skin but I would rather have loose skin then not be able to fit in a seat comfortable , or go to movies with out having to have a seat in between my spouse and I so I have room. I can't wait to get on a plane or hell even plan a trip and not care about getting on the plane because of how tiny the seats are. Trust me I …

Hello. My first doctor visit and education class is next week. I expect my gastric bypass surgery to be six months from now. I did a good amount of research before making my decision, and I am eager to start my journey. I know I will have questions answered next week, but am eager for answers now. My biggest fear is my BMI is close to being too low, however, I have many weight related health issue (D2, HBP, and High cholesterol). I am hoping to be able to diet a bit before surgery. Anyone in a similar situation?

I started with an online quiz in January and yesterday, the surgeon's office indicated that they were submitting my claim before my last primary care dr appointment...which wasn't until October. (My plan called for 7 visits) I could have my approval as early as next week. I've been doing Protein shakes for two meals most days...don't mind them at all.
