New to the forum from Dallas!

Hello! I'm from Dallas and am in the final stages of gastric sleeve preparation...waiting on an appointment in October to set my surgery date. I'm just now discovering the online support systems for Bariatric patients! Any words of advice on dealing with the frustrations of waiting? I'm just excited to get this journey going!

welcome Tex

yahoooo from Syracuse, NY!!!

glad you found this forum

we're all great people

especially me!! :D

read the boards they are chocked full of questions and answers

you might see Q's & A's about things you always wanted to know

but afraid to ask

read as much as you can concerning your WLS

Weight Loss for Dummies

Weight Loss Cookbook for Dummies

@@Alex Brecher (founder and KING of BariatricPal  ) wrote a series of books too

The Big Book on Bariatric Surgery

The Big Book on Gastric Sleeve

The Big Book on Gastric Bypass

many different emotions in WLS land pre-op

FRUSTRATION of waiting is common

you'll start jumping through mmmmany hoops of insurance

lab tests, blood work, different docs visits

these tests etc will keep you occupied

"God Grant Me Patience, Just Hurry Up About It!!"

ride 'em cowgirl!!

good luck

Good luck with your journey! I am considering the gastric sleeve surgery for myself. I was considering the lap band a year ago and then backed out right before surgery because of my overwhelming fear and no family support. I recently went back to the weight loss center and they said they might be doing away with the lap band and that I should go with the gastric sleeve instead. I am going to back to weight loss support groups. I hate I don't have my dad's support. I am more scared than excited at this point.

@@less_of_christan, Hi, and welcome! I am also from Dallas. What surgeon are you seeing?

I was self-pay so no waiting for insurance for, although I did have to wait for work reasons. Even then, looking back, it seems like it all went pretty fast.

As proudgranny said, just check out the site and read all you can. You will learn so much, not just about post-surgery guidelines and such, but also about other people on this journey and how they handle all aspects of their weight loss, good and bad.

Best of luck to you!

Yes, I went to Dr. Dirk Rodriguez. His office is in Dallas (near Presbyterian Dallas), but the surgery center he uses is in Plano. Everything went very smoothly!

Welcome :). I'm 3 weeks post-op band to sleeve revision, had the lap band before that for 8 years. I think the best way to deal with frustrations pre and post is to keep "hanging out" on the forum here. People are really nice & love to answer any questions. One can learn a lot just reading the forums on a daily basis.

Best wishes on your journey. ^^

@@kimini Thanks for your words of encouragement! My surgeon is Westmoreland at Baylor. Did you have your surgery in Dallas as well?

Best of luck to you! I am in Plano, awaiting insurance approval, very impatiently!

Where in Plano? My surgery will be at Plano Presby (hopefully, waiting for BCBS to approve me, fingers crossed!!)
