I went to my initial appointment last week and it went well. I passed the psych eval, and will schedule my next 5 nutrition / diet visits with the surgeon's office. One thing that bothered me though is that the PA requested that I participate in a sleep study (mainly, I assume, because I wrote on my new patient information form that I occasionally snore). After checking my insurance info, it appears it will cost me over $600 for the study! Now I'm wondering if I should discuss this with the surgeon's office. I rarely snore, do not have sleep apnea, plus I had a surgery about 3 years ago and had no problems during surgery or with the anesthesia. Should I discuss this wit…

Ok; I get it. Friends who have always been on the weight loss roller coaster with you, tried every fad diet, every new exercise routine, and had moderate success with you at times... they don't really like you taking this new step, do they? Sigh...I guess that means someone you've always counted on to be a cheerleader will instead be judgmental and say stupid things about this being the "easy" way even though there isn't anything easy about it!! I guess you can't make everyone happy... Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Yesterday I scheduled my surgery for October 18th. I start my liver reduction diet on Tuesday. What are some things you want to take to the hospital? What helped you be comfortable or at least somewhat while at the hospital? I think I will have a 2 night stay. Thanks! ~Sandy~

I'm wondering how folks take their pain medications post surgery. I have a pretty sensitive stomach, have a really hard time even tolerating Advil. When I've taken narcotic painkillers (like Percocet or Vicodin) unless I take them with a big meal, I'm double overhead with stomach pain that radiates into my back an hour or too later. Is there any option for pain meds that aren't taken by mouth post surgery available? I'm specifically referring to once you leave the hospital. Thanks. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

So I've been missing for a few weeks due to the fact that I got bronchitis. I was so bummed b/c I had to push back my final pre op appt twice. I went in today and my date is in one week! October 11!! I can't believe it's so soon. I told him I was nervous about the pre op diet and he just kinda shrugged and said, "try not to cheat but know that most people do". It seems a bit blase but I'm a low BMI patient for him so maybe he's not too worried about it. Super nervous and excited!

I have finished the options class Ana now have to wait to see if the case manager says I need phase two labs. This could take a month I was told. I have been waiting for four years to get this done. I am so over waiting anymore... Can someone tell me the process here after is quick? I think Kaiser needs to let up on some of the control over the small stuff. Frustrated to say the least.... Soon nervous, sitting in the Drs office for my last appointment. I have a low BMI and need to maintain. I couldn't sleep at all. Woke up at 3 an and my weight was spot on. Ugh before I left the house I was 1.5 lb heavier...so nervous. I didn't eat much yesterday or today. I'm scared I have a gain and insurance will deny me. Are they that picky? Met with the bariatric psychologist. Found out that since the dosage of one of my depression meds had been changed recently, I have to be stable for 3 months. Frustrating. The second week of November is 3 months. Also my regular psychologist and therapist put in my chart that I needed to return to group theraphy. I went for 8 months. Been there done that. Explained to the Bariatric psychologist the reasons I stopped and that I am continuing my personal therapy sessions. She decided to require that I attend 6 classes that are once a week. Happy. Met with the sugeon. I am having the sleeve. I have to lose 10#'s. Happy. Met with the nutritionist I am on 1200 calorie diet. M…

I don't have a date yet because my surgeons office is extremely backed up so I'm on hold, but I am excited. I'm excited because I have the chance to do something I never thought possible, I have the opportunity to take my life back! I don't have to live with my CPAP machine forever, and I will get to run again!!! I will be Kickboxing by spring, buying clothes off the rack, fitting in amusement park ride seats, kayaking, and living life again!!! I know that many of us are obsessed with getting to the surgeons table and it can be frustrating when all we see is every one else getting their dates and surgeries but we all need to remember why we are here, what are you excite…

What are some products that you have purchased for the WLS process? Pre-op and post-op. I see a lot of Bariatric Protein products online and was wondering what is really useful. I don't want to overdue it and buy a bunch of stuff I don't really need or won't use. Also, where do you buy these items for the best price?

Did you have to go to your PCP? If you had the choice did you like going to your PCP or did you like going to the Registered Dietitian more? I am still going to my diet visits until they submit to insurance but I am thinking of going to my PCP I really like him a lot and the RD I don't really care too much for. Thanks in advance.

And let me just tell you something. I'm not a Patient women. I'm losing my 'effing *hit man. I'm on day 10 of waiting and trying to be a normal human about this because I feel after how long it takes to do all of this from thought to right now I would be a world class champion at the waiting game but now it's so scary to think that it could all be extended that much longer or this could really be it. I'm so ready for this to be underway I am ready for the next chapter of my life to begin. I'm terrified of being denied. Is it normal for it to take this long? I'm freaking out guys. Yes, I know this is shallow... but it broke my heart and now I am completely upset. One of my two year olds (I have twins) took a picture of me while messing with my phone. It was completely off guard and a picture of me standing sideways... I LOOK HORRIBLE. Absolutely horrible. I'm 22. I have been overweight and this isn't new, but I didn't think I looked that bad. Now all I can do is wonder if this is what the world sees of me? A sloppy extremely fat black girl... To make matters worse, my family laughed. My mom said "that'll be a great comparison picture," but she laughed first. I know they're all extremely supportive. But that completely made me wonder what they…

Hi I'm just starting journey and I'm a little confused by information from my insurance co. I'm from Michigan and have Priority Heath ins. Does anyone know if they require the 6 month supervised diet? The Bariatric clinic said they did but when I called my insurance co. They said "yes if your Dr. requires it" I guess I'll have to do a little more digging :/ Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

My surgery is scheduled for the 25th. I have my pre-op appointment with the NUT and surgeon on the fourteenth so i won't have the full two week pre-op diet but figured i should get started getting used to the liquid only and also try to figure out which Protein supplements I like. I am going to do liquids during the day and eat a small reasonable dinner of protein and veggies for the next two weeks. I am hoping this philosophy will help me when i have to do all day liquid diet. My question is, and I know there will be a variety of answers, but how many protein supplements are you typically take during pre-op? I copied what someone else posted and am trying to fol…

Ok, so I was originally scheduled for October 20th, but now they moved it to October 13th! I am feeling every singe emotion there is out there. I am more excited than anything, but also scared, nervous, anxious...EVERYTHING! I almost cried today making a cup of pumpkin coffee, thinking about how I won't be able to have it for a long time. I am so ready to give up a lot of foods, as my eating of them in large quantities is what got me to this point. I have a super supportive husband, which is helping me out a lot. Just so many emotions!

So I met my surgeon last week, had the EGD this week to check out my stomach. They placed a pH probe to monitor my stomach acid and see if my reflux was out of control or not. Met with psych this week, she was great! I meet the dietician on this upcoming Wednesday. I have been doing Weight Watchers and lost 27 pounds since June. My insurance requires 3 months of WW, gym, and pre-op appointments with the surgical team prior to approval. So it looks like I will have surgery in January 2017. Getting nervous and afraid I will be denied. Any suggestions about the upcoming months or words of wisdom??

I had my surgery on Monday and have just gotten home. Overall, it wasn't too terrible. However, one of my incisions in my left side is is unbelievably sore. I knew I would be sorer on that side an any other but OMG!!! I had no troubles meeting my Water intake goal (64 oz) and walking in order to leave the hospital. Now that I'm home, the real work starts. Got to keep up the Clear Liquids for the next several days and getting some Protein in. Also, painkillers are my fav right now! Ha! I'm having a really weird thought process, sleeve scheduled 12/13. But I feel like it's not happening. Does anyone feel this way? Maybe because it's such a long way away and because I'm in month 4 of a 6 month process, or maybe because I'm scared my insurance will deny me for some reason, or maybe I don't want to get my hopes up? But I just feel kind of down about it. I've gone to every appointment and am counting down the days. Just kind of in disbelief that I'll be getting the surgery. Does anyone feel this way too? I finally got my letter of support from my pcp(I had to jump thru hoops to get one). Well the insurance lady told me that the letter needed to state that I haven't smoked or drank alcohol within the last six months or something like that or the insurance will deny it. Of course My doctor didn't put it on there. It took me forever to get the letter and I don't want to delay them submitting my paperwork because I'm trying to hunt down my pcp. And I certainly don't want to get a denial because the statement isn't on there. My question is for anyone with BCBS federal, do you really have to have this statement on there? Was anybody denied because they didn't have it on ther…
