Hello All! Did anyone NOT give up coffee after gastric bypass surgery? My intentions are to give it up prior so I get the headaches out of the way before surgery, but was wondering if anyone had stories of NOT giving up coffee.

I didn't give up coffee because my surgeon said coffee is fine for me. I have cut way back because it doesn't taste the same to me. I'll hit a Cappuccino a few times a week tho...

we had to give up coffee for at least 3 months after surgery after that we are allowed coffee. of course we are always allowed decaf! just caffeine is hard on the new stomach

My friend didn't give up coffee and it didn't seem to hinder her weight loss after surgery at all. I don't drink coffee but have already given up soda.

My surgeon has no requirement to give up coffee

I didn't drink coffee for the first month and a half. Now I drink caffeine free at home but omg my new addiction is almond milk lattes! Not a lot of sugar and it's healthy! I make it at home sometimes but it's so much better from Starbucks hahaha

My Dr says no coffee for a month so drinking half cage to wean myself from caffeine

I gave it up for 6 weeks after surgery to let myself heal but my surgeon gave me the all clear after that. I drink it daily

My question is are any of you using anything in your coffee? Before all this prep for surgery I used full fat half & half (which makes for the best cup of coffee), but now I haven't. It is ok to use the sugar free creamers? They pretty don't have much of anything in them like calories, carbs or sugars.

Also, does any one know if you can chew sugar free gum?

i wouldn't risk chewing gum, if you swallowed it by mistake you would need surgery to get it out. i know some are super careful but honestly you don't know what could happen and it's not worth the risk.

I chew gum all the time. Doc said it was no problem and I'm not worried about swallowing it because I'm not 12.

Yep. I can have 1 cup a day. I just get about 4oz with a little creamer. I still drink lots Water and diet tea.

I get it with skim milk (lattes or cappuccinos) and they top it off with cinnamon for me. It's pretty good. Haven't tried the sugar-free creamers; I used to be a peppermint mocha addict, but the sugar-free syrups just taste gross to me.
