So I'm at the stage of mushy foods, and am finding a hard time finding food I'll eat. Unfortunately, I'm a pretty picky eater and per the list the surgeon gave me, I don't enjoy many of the foods including: Green beans Zucchini Carrots (cooked) Sqush Beets Yams/Sweet Potatoes Does anyone have good, healthy ideas for some veggies I would be able to make that allow me to enhance my very DULL diet of mashed potatoes, soup, and tuna? Additionally, I don't eat the prtoien shakes, per my dietician, as they make me ill.. so I've been getting my protien via milk... I'd love any help as I'm very new to WLS, and want to start off right! ~emily anne

So me, like I am sure a lot of you, got excited when I could eat actual food !! I am 14 days out today. I tried tuna salad -prepared in the can w crackers. Well, I don't quite know when I feel full yet, man I know now ! I ate wayyyyyy too much (1/2 the small can) and I was almost violently ill ! Bad nausea , ick...so I have come to the conclusion that 1...I have had a crash course in "full" and I cannot just hop right into food again. I took it easier for dinner and had some ricotta, cheese, sauce and mozzarella, like a mock lasagna and I ate only about 1/4 cup, maybe less .... Any ideas for food in general, I can tell this is going to be slow and get old fast before I …

  9. Hey guys, I need input please. I JUST got off of Clear liquids (yeah) and now am "officially" on full liquids (yes, it's been about 6 weeks I guess but that's with an abscess)..... does your tummy 'contract' whenever you eat something that is 'full liquid' whenever you initially start trying to progress? Or is that the carb content possibly? Sorry I didn't have the benefit of seeing a nutritionist in my sleeve journey and I have many questions. So far I have eaten cream of shrimp Soup (by campbell's) with a can of added ff milk in it and this morning I tried fiber/protein cream of wheat. The carb content in the cream of wheat is A LOT and I realized that after heat…

So quinoa is this amazing superfood, one of if not the only grain that is a "complete" protein. Apparently its praises can't be sung enough. However, a serving (1C) is like 500 calories and 90 something grams of carbs. WTF!!!!!! So, I am having a difficult time making myself believe that it is okay to have these carbs, that's a crazy carb amount for me! Without the quinoa at lunch today's carb count would have been more like 25, instead it is 100! I will be exercising for 2 1/2 hours this evening but holy hell that is a lot of carbs, I don't care if they are complex.

Shirataki noodles (tofu noodles) are definitely worth a try. We had them tonight for dinner. We made it with a pad tai sauce, Peanut Butter, lime juice and a little hot sauce for a kick. They aren't bad. Not fantastic but definitely better than no noodles at all and I can have them on my stage 3 soft food diet. . Later on this week we r going to try them again with Alfredo. I'll keep you posted. Definitely worth a try though. Only 20 calories per serving. No gluten, no sugar.

I don't sleeve for another six weeks but would like to start my shopping for pre and post op foods. Any "must haves" that you found? I have to do two weeks liquid diet post and am so scared I will be intolerably mean and snappy. Good thing i live alone! While I will have family in and out for the first few weeks, I would love to just make sure I have everything I need on hand. So please give me a good shopping list! Also, does anyone think I need to have someone stay with me for a few days?

  15. Have you seen 60 min? They have done studies that demonstrate the addictive properties in consuming sugar. Sugar is also consumed by cancer gulped also. I know that I am going to make more of an effort to stay away from processes foods. Fruit drinks are the worst. If u haven't seen 60 min maybe go to the website and see it. This is really scary and makes alot of sense.

I work for myself, and sometimes that means really long days. This morning I headed out thinking I'd eat my Protein bar from my purse for Breakfast. Whoops, no Protein Bar. I was crazy busy and stopped for Water a couple of times, but didn't find anything at either stop that I felt okay with eating. At 2pm, I had some family crap come up (you know how it goes) that left me pretty upset and food went out of my head totally. By 5:30, I was home and I was a blubbering, ready to keel over and die, practically suicidal, mess. It wasn't until 7pm that I realized I hadn't eaten all day. By then, I could barely manage half a piece of chicken. However, once it kicked in, I start…

I bought Casual Gourmet chicken sausages with spinach and roasted red peppers today at Costco. YUM! I had one for lunch - each sausage only has 120 cals, 6 grams of fat and 15 grams of protein. I have a new favorite go-to lunch now, especially if I'm in a hurry! They do have a bit of a kick to 'em but really delicious.

I have a bad sinus infection with a sore throat (which is why I'm awake and posting at 1:00). Because I'm still six days preop and do not have to follow a preop diet, I've been eating my usual "sick" foods: applesauce, bananas, spaghetti-o's (yeah, I know, but they slide down a sore, swollen throat), and chicken noodle Soup. On the plus side, I've lost another three pounds. But I know I can't eat nothing but carbs the next time I get sick. While I realize I can have things like sugar-free Jello and pudding, I'm not a big sweets eater. Other than soup, what else works with a sore throat? What do you eat when you're sick?

  32. So today after 3 months post I decided to try one of my favorite foods pre surgery,Sushi. I used to love the California Roll and the tempura shrimp roll. We went to this "chinese" restaurant and it was buffet ( I know what a waste of money for a bariatric patient ) But I didn't pay, a friend who invited me paid for my meal. So I decided to try 2 pieces of Sushi and 2 small pieces of fresh orange. I ate the sushi and right after I was done, I had this weird sensation on my stomach It was painful. So I went to the bathroom and puked and my stomach hurt like hell. I learned my lesson that my sleeve is definitely not ready for this type of food. I used to love sushi ,…

A friend gave me an idea for a pretty tasty drink and thought I would share it. mix: 32 oz. of water 4 oz of orange juice 1 tsp of pure vanilla extract (more if you like it stronger) two packets of stevia (more if you want it sweeter) mix and refrigerate or pour over ice It has a flavor like a creamsicle or orange julius. the only thing that has any calories or sugar is the orange juice and that is very minimal. Well, two weeks and one day later, there's no kicking. Only stalling. Well, I can deal with that I suppose, because I know this HAS to work. On an averge day about how many calories do you eat? I am almost 5 months post op. I eat between 1200-1600. At this level I lose about one pound a week. I know that is more than my nut. advised, she said 900, but I was hungry all the time. Also at around month 3 my hair started falling out big time so I raised my daily calorie limit to try and stop it from all coming out. My hair loss has stopped, thank goodness. I wonder if I should lower my calories limit. I was curious how much other sleevers eat. Thanks!

  49. I have always enjoyed "eating green" and for a few years was a vegetarian and for two of those, a vegan (as in, no animal products at all--no meat, dairy, honey, Worchestershire sauce, eggs). So I have a sort of fondness for that way of eating--my body did feel fabulous and I did lose weight when vegan; however, as we all know, the trouble really isn't losing it, it's keeping it off! Thus, the sleeve. This time around, at a weight considered "normal" post-surgery, I'm finding that I need to focus on eating for nutrition. Because I have a fairly picky sleeve that doesn't tolerate some big categories of food (grain products, meat/fish--although shrimp, crab, crawfish, …
