I found this video it is brief and really interesting - I think it might answer a little for some of us who begin to eat "normal" foods and can't figure out how the extra carbs seem to be sneaking in. My Norton AV caught an add on attempt off this page - maybe - I had more then one window up. I just wanted to mention it. http://www.delish.com/recipes/cooking-recipes/taste-of-place/?v=ff905ef2-2ebd-4952-a0f0-631d8c2eda4f&from=en-us_msnhp

It has become really hard for me to stomach the protein shakes,so I tried muscle milk light a while back....YUMMMMM!!!! It goes down so good,my sleeve is lovin it! They are so darn expensive though! I have one for breakfast every morning after I get in my first 20 ozs of water...My problem is,when I try to eat like a bit of cottage cheese or soft chicken or something for lunch or dinner,I can't get enough down for it to be nutritionally good for me! And what I do get down keeps me so full for the rest of the day/night that it is hard to even get in the rest of my required liquids! Sooo here is my question: Can't I just live off muscle milk light and water for now? LOL Ser…

I love this app for my iPone. I'm sure you can get it for other HH devices. It's really handy as I'm 1 week post-op and tracking everything that goes in my body. I'm currently in the post-op liquid phase. The app is called "MyFitnessPal". Search for it in your app store. A couple things I really love about this app. 1. There is an option to scan the UPC code on the side of ALL items you eat and it will login the food & all nutrition facts. So, when I have a cup of Greek Yogurt, I simply scan the bar-code & it logs everything in. Really cool. 2. It summarizes your input for the day so you'll know your calories & Protein for the day. Makes the tracki…

Hi everyone! I'm pretty new here. I had VSG 1 week ago today and all is going well except I am really bored with broth, decaf tea, and water. I found on you tube a recipe for a clear liquid diet apple pie in a mug. It consist of apple juice, drop of honey, pinch of cinnamon, and a drop of vanilla simmered on the stove. Do you think this is ok? Has anyone else tried it before?

OK, I am 8 weeks POST op, and down 57 Pounds. I started working out 2 weeks ago and it’s going well. Here is my issues(S) during the normal work week I have a shake in the morning for Breakfast and a shake at lunch. Then I get home and go right to the fridge and stare. I munch whatever I can get my hands on until I almost feel sick… I then chill out until dinner. . During the weekend, or days off I find myself standing in front of the fridge all day long or about every 20 minutes, or just after the last little bit of food drops into my new stomach. I think I need help. • I am NOT hungry! • I munch on whatever I can find • I know that I don’t want it or need i…

I just had a brown rice cake with 1 tbsp. peanut butter. What a tasty snack! Also I have discovered Lundberg Rice Chips. the Santa fe BBQ is great and the regular Sea Salt ones tastes just like tortilla chips and tastes great with salsa. Check them out. These are the only chips we keep in the house now. They are really crunchy and taste great. Got mine at Whole Foods. They have about 5 different flavors. I liked the beaitos until I tried these, now no more Beanitos! (Before my surgery i probably would have never eaten anything like this.) I would get a bag of Fritos or a can of Lays chips and eat the entire thing as soon as I got home from the store. I don't h…

Okay, this may seem crazy, but can someone please tell me what a small bite looks like post-op? Obviously I didn't get to 300+ pounds taking small bites, so I'm worried that my idea of a small bite may still be too big! I worry that I will do the same thing with my sip, sip, sipping. How much is a tiny sip? Like an eighth of a teaspoon? I imagine I will learn the hard way if I take in too much food or liquid at once, but I am sure hoping some of you could give me an idea so I can be practicing. Hoping for a 3/14 surgery date. I have not been released for bread yet, although I don't really miss it, but docotr appt. this Thursday, so maybe then. But I was craving a tuna melt, so I took 2 WASA crackers, Starkist sandwich ready albacore, and a slice of muenster cheese, and did two crackers and put them in the toaster oven broiler for a minute and VOILA! They were so good. Who needs bread anyway! LOL!

I just left the grocery store and was getting a little self-conscience about what was in my cart. I wouldn't let my hubby put anything "bad" in there. I want my kids to learn to love healthy options. I have always thought healthy food couldn't possibly be as good as that greasy deliciousness from the burger joints or the sweet stickiness of a fresh donut. Well, I was wrong. I am learning to absolutely LOVE fruit and veggies again. Since I have to get all that protein in and the fruit and veggies are "treats", I am looking at them in a new light. I live for my fruit daily. Any "real" sugar makes me sick. But natural sugars in fruit and veggies I have had no problems with. …

I thought it might be fun to share some recipes of things we're eating. This is a really easy chicken recipe that my husband taught me. I use Pace Picante (mild), but you could use any jarred salsa you like. Keep it low fat and sodium. Or make your own salsa! Even better! "Fiesta Chicken" What you need: Glass baking dish - preferably a casserole dish Chicken - any combination that will fit in the dish. We like 2 breasts, 2 legs and 2 thighs 1 bottle of Pace Picante Sauce, mild (I usually use 20-30 ounces) Foil Turn on the oven to 400 degrees Place the chicken into the glass dish Pour the Pace Picante over the chicken until it's swimming in it Cover the …

I'm struggling to get in 50 grams of protein a day. My doc wants me to take in 80 grams. I've read any thing from 60 to 100 grams on this board. What has your doctor told you? .....and is anyone as bad as me? My daughter got in 80-100 grams a day and still had her hair fall out!

I eat so slow that I pretty much eat throughout the day. It's not like grazing because I pack my lunch in a little bento box. I have 2 oz of cottage cheese, 3 oz of meat and/or cheese, sunflower seed crackers, 2 oz of fruit and maybe a Greek yogurt dip. It seems to keep me busy at work until it's time to go home. On the weekends I'm so busy that I usually have to remind myself to eat and then grab a quick meal. Is eating through the day unhealthy in the long run?

Hello Everyone, I am so glad I found this message board! I have so many questions and it's hard to find one place where you can just have a good conversation! I have a BMI of 35, which puts me below the range for most places in the US. I don't have much in the way of secondary problems - YET. But my cholesterol is creeping up, my knees hurt, etc etc. Problems are just around the corner. I am approx 60-70 lbs overweight (5'2 height). I know this is not quite as much as some people who have gastric surgery, but the reality is that over the last 15 years I have tried several diets that have failed me. Now I am 43 and wondering when I am going to start having p…

OOOOKKKAYyyyyyyy...I am going to nibble on a can of chicken spread for lunch, and about 1/32nd of a small apple, no skin no innard, just that 1/2 inch or so of softness - cut as thin as the best sashimi you could buy, lol... I am going to "listen" to george and try to "feel" for the fullness - but I am not going to wait until I feel it. I started about 11:41 CST, and have gone crazy slow...not hungry at all but very sure not yet full, so every few minutes I am going to have another nibble, and after about 1-2 oz I am going to sit back and try to gauge if this time I might be OK with mushies! Wish me luck. I am almost on my 8th week, and I was still on thick liquids …

I am now at the mushies phase of eating and I am trying to get most of my Protein from food rather than protein supplements (which I find nauseating). While I was on liquids I was getting 800+ calories a day. Now that I'm eating mushies I actually ate 1200 calories yesterday (and managed to get in 78 grams of protein, which is good). I am hoping that when I get to the regular food phase I will only be able to eat small amounts of more solid food (these mushies go down and through pretty easily) and so the calories will be reduced. Any thoughts/experiences on this?

I am 8 weeks post op. I have been getting plenty of protein. I have never been able to do protein shakes, but I eat rarely any carbs, some veggies, and always a protein like boneless skinless chicken breast. Even for breakfast I normally just have some deli ham or and egg. My hair had been doing really great since surgery. That is surprising because I've had to have almost all of my hair cut off after some surgeries I had a couple of years ago. My hair just broke off in clumps. Anyway, all of a sudden my hair has become so dry and brittle and it is breaking like crazy. I rarely heat style it. I normally just let it air dry. I have started using pureology. I did…

Ok so of course they did surgery on my stomach and not on my brain and prior surgery I was a huge sweets eater, cookies, candy etc Now after surgery ,I am trying to make better choices of course. I still have 1-2 cookies a week or so. But I am finding ideas to satisfy my sweet tooth without hurting my weight loss progress. So I started adding crystal light to my water and 1 pack of Truvia to my fresh pineapple. Does any one would love to share any ideas? I wonder how many post op sleevers on here STILL love sweets and what kind of suggestions you might have. Thanks in advance =)

The first few days after surgery were the worst and also the most puzzling; The thought of physically eating anything made me feel sick and yet in my head all I could think about was food Now 12 days out I can say that the head hunger has definitly quieted down but it's still there. My fear is that once I'm able to eat regular food again I'll start to crave all the crap I used to eat and even though I won't be able to eat as much, I don't want to eat like that anymore. Can any veterans shed some light on this? Does it get better? Thanks!

Hello all! I'm just about five weeks out and I want to know how everyone was doing at this time. I seem to be getting between 600-800 calories a day. 370 calories come from my Monster Milk Lite and Isopure Zero (they're good for 65 g protein...I separate them-one in the am and other in pm). The rest comes from food. I also walk between 30-40 minutes a night. In the mornings, I do very light weights for my arms and squats and lunges for my legs...no ab work yet. I'm scared to pop a stitch, so to speak. I have NO idea how much weight I've lost since my last check in (209 lbs...yay!). That was on 2/16. I haven't weighed myself since because I was becoming obsessive...you …

Hi all, I am close to goal, 15 from surgeon's, 40 from personal. I exercise regularly, 4-5x per week, 1-2 hours at a time. I get in between 700-900 cals on average, 70+ grams protein, and 30-70 grams carbs a day on average. How can I shake things up to get over this last hill and get to goal already? I've heard that nutritional needs change when you get closer to goal and that how you lose weight changes as well. Should I increase calories, decrease? Reduce carbs, increase? Increase exercise? My exercise is currently yoga, TRX, dancing, and treadmil/elliptical. I have been stalled for 50 days.

Okay, I think my body is still not ready for mushies. I always end up in pain the next day and usually a certain amout of intestinal distress. I also get very runny stools which I am pretty sure would dehydrate totally except I lived with a cup or popscicle in my hand yesterday. It is annoying but not overwhelming. I think I am going to give my tummy a rest and stick to liquids again - give my tummy time to rest and any inflammation I caused to fade. After I am going to to a very very, super very gradual mushie transition and if that does not work I will check with my Dr. I was sleeved on 1/4/12so it has been almost eight weeks. I am not concerned yet, but if anyone w…

I've been reading the benefits of extra vigrin coconut oil, it comes in jar that needs no refrigeration and melts easily. DO NOT MICROWAVE! I've been using coconut oil to cook with, eat a tablespoon everyday in my coffee, and use it as a moisturizer and hair condition. A little goes a long way. Google coconut oil make sure it is extra virgin cold pressed oil.

I am 10 1/2 weeks out and Thursday the doctor said I could eat anything now including bread. I bought some of the Oroweat thin sandwich rounds (multi-grain 100 cal) and had a peanut butter and jelly on toast yesterday. It tasted soo good. Today for lunch I could finally have my turkey burger on the same sandwich round. What a difference! Still can't eat much over 4 oz. at a time though. No problems whatsoever! Oroweat also makes the sandwich rounds in a mini-size in whole wheat only and is 50 cal. I will start using those for lunchtime sandwiches. Hi Everyone, We are always talking about watching the amount of carbs that we eat each day. I keep trying to find ways to satisfy my needs to eat low carbs yet have delicious food. Well I discovered a new cookbook that I just love. This guy was on QVC and I thought to myself these recipes and foods sounds so great—but do they really taste this good. They (QVC) has a policy that you can return anything in 30 days if you don’t like what you purchased, so what did I have to lose—NOT a thing. OK, I LOVE this book. For Breakfast I made “cheese Danish Dreams” Doesn’t this sound good? It has 260 Calories Fat: 24 grams, Protein: 10.5 grams. Fiber: 0 G…

Hi Everyone, I could really use your input. I got sleeved 10 months ago and I've lost a total of 55 lbs and slid back and gained 5 pounds December. I've been working on my food intake and not drinking fluids with my food and that has helped. I was thinking of getting on the Atkins program to kick start my system and get me going again. I'd done the program 10 years ago and had great success and lost 85 pounds. Has anyone done this program after being sleeved? I apprciate any input from you.

I was looking for good WLS recipies and was pointed to the EggFace website. I love all the different suggestions and recipies on that site. I've made some of the mini muffin bite meals, and the pizza. Very easy to make and good to take for lunch. I love the lunch box ideas and day in my pouch. However.. I am tracking the amoujnt of protein and carbs I eat daily and her site does not contain nutrition info. Maybe I missed it.. what's the best way to break down the nutrition value in for example one of the mini muffin bites?

I have a suggestion. Lets have some threads about experiences we have had with local restaraunts, or ones we know to be WLS friendly, whether they mean to or not. Open a new topic for each city, so they can be referenced easily. And for instance, dont list next-to-big-city separately, so we can keep them local. Vacation spots, too! Truck drivers chime in too, someone create one for on the road. In Houston my top choice at this time Jason's Deli. When I go with a friend they work with me, every time. I am most often charged nothing if a friend is ordering if I goto the salad bar and get an egg or hummus, etc. The black currant tea is good enough to not eat at all …

So I know this is unrelated to VSG (well I guess sort of because I was buying veggies for my new eating plan) but I wanted to let you all know so this doesn't happen to you. I happened to be at Walmart last night which I never go to for various reasons, but was stuck because they were the last place to stop before my house. I needed a red bell pepper to cook vegetarian chili and when I got it home and started to cut it open, it was infested with black bugs!!! It was absolutely disgusting. I threw the rest of the produce I bought away. That has never happened to me from any other grocery store, farmers market, etc. so be careful with your future produce purchases from W…

My fiancee and I totally skipped Valentine's Day, so last night he had the brilliant idea to take me to the Melting Pot, which is a fondue restaurant. The first course is cheese, so of course be careful--I had very very little of this! But the main course is Protein, which you cook in broth. Basically zero carbs, small chunks of varied protein, and lots of flavor. We didn't have dessert, I was too full (I made the mistake of having a few bites of salad. I miss salad, but...never again! It fills you up way too much.) It is a bit expensive, but we split an entree ($24) which was perfect--I had two chunks of lobster and one shrimp and was totally happy, and my fiancee a…

Okay, I have an odd question. I am going to a dinner in a few months with a friend and the featured foods will be arthropods - the buggy kind - I have done this before (I actually think many insects are very good). But I wonder if anyone had had any dishes with their sleeve that included insects and if it was too much - some of the exoskeletons give me concern, not the protien-packed insides.

So I've had a horrible time adjusting to my sleeve, with yucky complications. However, I am THRILLED to be on day 2 of NO PUKING!!! I found I can tolerate warm decaf tea with a touch of peppermint extract. Last night I ate a shot glass full of shredded cheese & today I have kept down 1 oz of applesauce & 2 oz of VERY runny refried beans. I want to throw myself a party, I am soooo excited to not have my head shoved in my trashcan which hasn't left my side yet since being sleeved. So I know I'm VERY paranoid about going slow. It took me literally an hour & a half to eat 1 oz of applesauce & an hour to eat 2 oz of beans. I sipped my tea last night from 4pm-1a…
