So today makes exactly 4 weeks since I've been sleeved. I've been struggling to get ample amounts of Protein in and I'm really beginning to get worried. I have powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury chicken broth with the protein in it. Gross. I might be able to tolerate it if I could make it hot (I like my food hot!) and could add some stuff to it, but you can't because the Protein powder cakes up if the Water is to hot. Protein intake FAIL. I have some nectar Protein shakes that I used to love - now anything that is related to protein/powder nauseates me to point of actually puking. I …

I'm pre-op, and I'm starting to eat greek yogurt. I want to get myself accustomed to eating it. I was reading that a drizzle of honey and a dash of cinnamon might make it more palatable. So my question is: can we have honey? If so, when are we allowed to have it? And, I should add that I'm not a big fan of honey...I actually have never had it, so it's not like I would go overboard with it. Any suggestions? Thanks!

I love Sushi and I miss Sushi because with my band I cannot eat rice and I have tried MULTIPLE times to ask them to cut into thinner rolls, eliminate the seaweed etc and I still want to throw it up because it gets stuck- Has anyone had any issues with eating Sushi with the sleeve?

Raw egg whites are only a tad bit thicker than Water, and are an amazing source of protein- many body builders drink liters of them a day. So I'm wondering if anyone knows if that would likely be a problem as a Protein source that is "liquid"? Is it just not brought up much because people find raw egg whites gross? I would think in terms of nutrition this would be MUCH more bioavailable than a processed Protein powder. Thoughts, experiences? Anyone add raw egg white to their shakes?

Recently I went to New Hampshire to visit my cousin. I had dressed warmly for it was about to snow. I was very comfortable outside. We had decided to get a hot cocoa while shopping ( my first hot drink sence having the surgery). I had about a 1/4 of the drink and I had a flash sweating episode. I was so wet I had to buy new clothes ( I had gone down 2 sizes sence the surgery so I needed the clothes anyway). I have had a hysterectomy so it wasn't a hot flash. I had sence had a couple sips of a hot drink and and experienced a lighter version of the heat up. Does this go away?

I have had a juicer for years, but have only used it a couple time. I was wondering has anyone tried juicing when they were on their full liquid stage after being sleeved? If so how did your sleeve tolerate it? I was thinking it would be a great way to get extra vitamins and minerals as well as liquids. I was also wondering if anyon has tried super reds or super greens and how you tolerated it after the sleeve. Your comments will be appreciated. Thanks.

I have been making home-made apple sauce tonight (golden apple) for my post-op mushy phase. I learned this technique when I had babies. food can be prepared (blenderized) and then placed into ice cube trays and frozen. This makes individual 1 oz. servings and cuts down on waste. After the food is frozen, label and date a freezer bag and place the food in it. Now you have a variety of food ready made to your specific taste. You can do this with anything that can be pureed; meat, fish, chicken, fruits and veggies, anything goes! I bought a Rival 1.5 cup food processor (under$10) to do my food. Not much clean up and no wasted food stuck to a large machine. BTW you can also m…

I'm currently taking Flintstones but have been trouble finding specific VSG requirements, are they the same as Gastric Bypass requirements? Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks yall!!

It has been 4 months and 10 days since I was sleeved. I had surgery on June 26th of this year and my hospital stay was 2 weeks. Due to my horrible lapband incident 3 years ago: the doctor used a band too small for my stomach and I couldn't even drink a drop of Water for 2 weeks-my body and brain was literally frying from lack of water, electrolytes and other nutrients, my new doctor who was actually the first and only one to help me prove what had gone wrong with the band performed my VSG. On the day of the surgery, I was scheduled to come out 4 hours later but I woke up 2 days later. My family thought that I had died or went into a coma. My doctor did this intentionally …

I had a band to sleeve revision done on 10/12/11. I was successful with the band, however like a lot of folks who had made the switch I began to experience complications around the 5 year mark. I have been reading as much as I can on ways to maintain my relatively healthy way of eating with the sleeve. There is a wealth of information here and I thank you all on sharing your experiences. There are those rare occasions however that I just want a good piece of fried chicken or beer batter fish, but I have read that there are many people who can no longer tolerate ANY fried foods post sleeve because it causes "dumping syndrome" or other unpleasant reactions. Can you s…

Dang, my wife went out and bought 2 giant bags of bite sized chocolate bars for the trick or treaters and we only had 9 of them show up at the door. Despite handing each of them a fistful of the things we ended up with over a bag left. Dang nab it! I've eaten over a dozen of these things since last night! AARRRGGGHHH! I took them to work and placed them out of my sight in the break room. Must .... resist ... urge ... to .... go ... to .... break ... room.

I have read in many places that when a person is in the hospital, after surgery they are served Gatorade as a way to stay hydrated (especially if vomiting is present). Upon returning home, that person is told to discontinue the use of Gatorade because of the calorie and sugar content. Well, I have wonderful news for those that have not noticed; Gatorade now has a low cal version called G2 and Poweraide has a no cal version called Zero. Now we have better options for those bouts of nausea and vomiting post-op (or God forbid, the stomach flu) no cal/ low cal! The Zero is also an excellent source of hydration after workout or on hot summer days as it supplies electrolytes an…

Hi everyone, Ive not posted in a while, mainly because ive been busy enjoying my (new) life and buying new clothes! Im just about 4 months out now and am just overweight having lost over 60 pounds. The weight has consistantly come off and I am really proud of what I have achieved. Up until about 3 weeks ago I was very vigilant about my Protein levels. I find the shakes and shots disgusting but forced myself to have them every day. About 3 weeks ago one of the shakes really turned my stomach and i was violently sick, spewed so hard that i was scared I maybe burst my sleeve. From then on I have taken my foot off the accelerator and have not been vigilant about drinking…

I'm still not tolerating ANY Protein Shakes or "unflavored" (that's bull in my opinion) Protein powders. I keep attempting to use them, and always come very close to puking when I do. I've been graduated to the mushy/pureed stage and have enjoyed some soft scrambled eggs, and some cottage cheese (that was kinda hard). I am going to the supermarket after work and plan to pick up some creamed spinach, black Beans, broth, and various Soups that I can put in my blender. Anyone have any other high protein mushy food staples I should invest in? I'm sure this isn't the first time someone's requested this info, it was just easier to ask you guys for it again versus siftin…

Hello Sleevies or on your way to be Sleevies!!! This is probably more so for the people whom hasnt had the surgery yet! My surgery date is November 9th and I'm at a stand still. I've lost 17LBS on my own and it came from just literally changing the way i consumed foods and i stopped the MCDonalds and Burger King and went to El Pollo Loco and Trader Joes instead. That lasted about 3 months and now I'm back eating the unhealthy stuff. Taco Bell, Carne Asada Burrito's and the list goes on! BUT I still eat the healthy stuff I enjoyed from Trader Joes. So my weight hasnt changed and Im not exercising any more like i usually would. I'm afraid I will gain a all of my weight …

Love the Oh yeah chocolate bars and the peanut butter and chocolate bars. They are the ones with 8 carbs. Has anyone tracked down the least expensive place to buy them? Besides the few vegetables and small bites of fruit every few days they are the only carbs I allow myself. 1 & 1/2 boxes cost me about $28.00 at the Vitamen Shoppe. That would be about 14 bars. Just looking for the least expensive way to do this. I tried the Adkins bars but they sit in my stomach like a ton of bricks and then I can actually feel my stomach contract.... a bit disconcerting... Khy

Yesterday I ate out and the table across from us had 3 people just staring at me the whole time. I guess my small portion and tiny slow bites had them awe stricken! LOL! Wish they had just asked me why. I felt very uneasy. They stared until we left, even watching me box up my leftovers.

Kaiser does great follow up. Today I had a 2 1/2 month appointment with dietician and physician assistant - here is 1. Vitamins - take the 1,500 mg a day on top of amount you get in foods. 2. Carbs - said don't do just a low carb diet, they had a few that did low carb diets and while they lost weight they caused problems because they were not eating the right foods and their lab results for vitamins and minerals were way off and causing other problems so they got them to eat normal. 3. Eat 3 real food meals and use Protein shake or Protein Bars for the between meal Snacks. Keep to 1/4 cup protein, 1/4 cup vegetable, 1/4 cup fruit and 1/4 cup starch/carb. Eventua…

Hello All My surgery is fast approaching and Im putting together a shopping list for all the stages of eating. I have heard a great many people talk about the benefits of things like sliced deli turkey. I love deli and this will not be a problem for my protein fix. The problem is that i LIKE deli and im a little scared that with the meat being so thin that I will not get a feeling of fullness and will overeat on the stuff. Do you guys feel restriction with deli meat? Is it after 1 or 2 slices?

I was just asked by a coworker if there is any type of food I absolutely won't be able to have. I'm told by the doctors that there isn't but I've also heard everyone is different. I'm just wondering what the consensus is on this? What are you unable to tolerate after the surgery? I've been told some people can't eat spaghetti, milk based products and non toasted bread...oh and alcohol is usually a no no for a while. Anything else? Thanks!

Hey Guys Is won ton soup considered a mushy stage food? I am a huge texture nut and the thought of eating pureed meat and the like kinda grosses me out. i was trying to think of some foods that I like that are naturally mushy and won ton soup came to mind. I checked it on fit day, the calories aren't bad and it has more of the good fat than the bad, though its kinda high in carbs. Question is, will it go down smoothly if well chewed in the mushy phase? Any other ideas that don't involve blending a steak would be appreciated too

Hi everyone, my surgey was done on 19 September 2011 in Johannesburg. On day 8 I had to be caried by ambulance back to hospital where the doctor said I was extremely dehydrated. This was because I had a discomfort in my tummy after drinking water or any liquid. Right now I am nealy 4 weeks after op. I am finding that I am not hungry and food does not have any taste at all. Has anyone experienced this?

This is so frustrating. I have been working on developing the habits neccesary after my surgery which includes no water 30 minutes before, during, and 30 minutes after a meal. I haven't been drinking 15 minutes before and during and I have been making it about 10- 15 minutes after before I have to drink something. This is a big accomplishment for me. I have also been working on chewing my food very well. I still have to not allow myself to get distracted and do better with it when I eat alone. I will work on that too. I noticed that some of my changes seem to have resulted in me gaining weight. For example, now that I am focused on being sure that I get b…

I found a good tasting low-carb bread. Oasis Sprouted Low Carb w/Flaxseed Bread=8 carbs per slice. Yes!, per slice, and they aren't tiny either. If I use two slices for a sandwich, I cut off the crusts cuz it's just too much for the sleeve. The taste is a little like sourdough. When you toast it the taste mellows a bit. So I like it for Breakfast, toasted with Peanut Butter and fruit spread on top! I found it at a healthfood-type store...they are online too. (If you're in The OC, they have it at Mother's Market) "I love the smell of carbohydrates in the morning!"

One of the many diets I tried was Lindora. Although successful the results were not long term. However, the food products they sell are pretty tasty and full of protein and usually a good dose of fiber included. Maybe a little on the pricey side but worth a try for those looking for alternatives and on the go type foods!

Does anyone know if the reason food is restricted is because the stomach isn't ready for it. I am only 6 days post surgery and I am soooo hungry I tried some pureed navy beans with a little shredded chedar on top.(about 1/4 cup) and it went down find and eased the hunger. Now I'm wondering if I am just ready to move on. Any one else experience this? Thanks

HI friends! I need some help. I am 5 1/2 weeks out from surgery, doing very well. I have not eaten anything yet that I didn't tolerate. However, I could really use some ideas for high Protein, low carb snacks/small meals. Here's the kicker: I do not like cheese, cottage cheese, yogurt, tuna, beef jerky; basically all the things you all seem to be eating! My doctor wants me to eat 5 times per day, so I am treating 2 of those as Snacks (smaller, quicker) with the other 3 being my meals. Also, it needs to be portable and quick, so I can bring it to work. So far my go-to has been a tbsp of Peanut Butter, sometimes by itself and sometimes with a few crackers, depending …

Love me some good potato salad. It was on sale yesterday at the supermarket. I tasted one bite - very good. Bought a small container "for the kids". Naturally, it started calling my name tonight around 8pm. I gave in, and thought I'd just see what would happen. One tiny bite - okay. Second tiny bite - not a chance. It stuck in my throat and wouldn't go down. I just stood, bent forward, for a few minutes until it finally dissolved. Then I had a few little sips of water. All's well that ends well, but I won't be experimenting again, at least within the next week or maybe two! Darn that sleeve! It works as advertised!

I am trying to keep carbs out of my diet. Today for lunch, I had an Atkins Protein bar that said on the wrapper that it was "3 g net carbs." After I ate it, I entered it into myfitnesspal, and I learned it had 18 g of carbs. What? How? And yet another lesson that I get in reading labels. Should I care about net carbs? I don't get it. I don't know what it means, and I am so frustrated that I thought I was having a good on-the-go lunch only to learn it has way too many carbs. Help!

I love to cook in the crock pot and over the past year I have fallen in love with skinless, boneless chicken thighs. They stay super moist in the crockpot and the flavor is great. (Plus they are cheaper than the breasts) However, I never thought about which was better for me. With the small amounts we are eating, is there a nutritional preference between chicken breasts or chicken thighs? Thanks! HDub

Not talking aobut junk food, but something you are enjoying that's healthy, high protein or low carb or all of the above. Loved her idea of a frozen greek yogurt that's sweetened. So what else do you enjoy when you have a sweet tooth?? Gayle
