Hey everyone so im 4 weeks out and my sleeve was having issues with ricotta , yogurt , and some turkey deli meat. If its juicy it was ok but the deli gave us pretty dry kind. I also have an issue with the Protein shakes and I was not consuming as much as I was supposed to . According to my doc i can try ricotta, yogurt, cottage cheese, cheeses ,beans and tofu at this point. So I didnt have a chance to go to store so I ordered tofu from the chinese place and let me tell you it went down great. Tasted delicious and I actually feel like I got some protein in. I just thought I would share with everyone since my sleeve was being a little tempramental . And for those of you w…

OK... So I have found something strange... I can eat about the same amount of carbs at one time as I did prior to surgery but only about 1/4 of the protein. What gives? I thought my sleeve was supposed to keep me from over-eating. I'm almost 6 weeks out and can eat pretty much anything. Has anyone experienced this?

I am 3 1/2 weeks out from surgery. My instructions from Doc says soft fruits no skin permitted. You suppose that includes watermelon? I think I saw that people tend to have problems with it but I could not find it on here when I did a search. BTW- I bought seedless watermelon if that makes a difference.

  11. I picked up a little egg poacher by Nordic Ware. It's actually called an "Egg N Muffin" for microwave use. Anyway, I paid $0.99 at Goodwill for it and googled for directions. Amazing. 45-50 seconds for a poached egg. So I tried a scramble...perfect. Sprinkle a little cheese on it (or Corn Beef Hash...or ground sausage, or wherever you're at in your diet) and voila! Made a perfect 1 egg omelette in 50 seconds. Cool Beans.

Hi all! I'm new to this forum, so bare with me! I had my surgery on 6/20/11 and ever since I woke up from the anesthesia, I've been dealing with a constant grumbly seemingly hungry stomach! I understand that my stomach has changed and it's probably normal to be more aware of it's movement but, I feel like I need to eat all the time!!! Has anyone else noticed this? And what happened to the "not feeling hungry due to the lack of stomach hormone" situation? Help!

You all probably figured this out already but I just discovered it LOL There are a few cookbooks out there specifically for people who have had WL surgery! "Recipes for Life After Weight Loss Surgery" "Eating Well After Weight Loss Surgery" These two I bought at Amazon and had them sent to my Kindle (that way I can enlarge the print so I can read the recipe while I'm cooking!) Anyway, they both look really good so I wanted to share my find!

  16. My surgery was almost 5 weeks ago, but due to several complications I'm just now being advanced to mushy foods...very limited one's at that. Tonight I went to visit with my parents and they had made a big batch of vegetable beef Soup. I decided to double strain it and have some of the broth. I did, and OH MY WORD it was delicious. It felt so wonderful to taste food that was familiar to me. I had forgotten how much I missed that. The Protein shakes are getting old and when I have broth or strained can soup it tastes just like the can..bleh! Yay for my mama's soup!! I'm going to bring out the crock pot and I see lots of soup in our future.

This is very important in the dieting world and nobody talks about it. Yes we will be restricted in our VSG diets but we should also pay attention to what foods will be good for our blood type. E.G. A, B, AB or O. Sometimes what may be permitted for our VSG may not actually be good for us. I am just asking you to check out the link and there is a book and more info on its validity. http://www.dadamo.com/program_weight.htm

Hey all! Here is a question that I have emailed my NUT about, but wanted to see if you all had any ideas. I have A LOT of Nutra System food that I was going to sell, but when looking at the nutrition facts they have a decent amount of Protein (12-20g) and Fiber (5-7g) in them. They all average about 250-350 calories. Should I sell them and just get them out of the house or are they worth keeping around? Thanks!

  21. As I said, I just recieved my pre-op diet. The short version is: It says the point is to put you in a *temporary* state of ketosis, but with the post-op diet being so similar is it really temporary? If not, whats different, other than the obvious, post-op that makes it different? I kinda like the idea of the whole high protein thing, because it will give me an excellent excuse to try out some protein shakes and other things lol. As far as the "plain water" part, does that mean I can't even use sugar free-flavor packs? Water and I don't get along, tap or bottle- doesn't matter, it ALL tastes "rusty" to me. I always thought I could use diet, sugar-free packs. Is the p…

I was watching the Nate show yesterday morning- not a huge fan of the show, but anyways he had a cooking section and actually had a great idea I am going to use when I go back to work. Use a muffin pan for making self-contained scrambled eggs. You can add whatever you want, cheese, onion, salsa, etc. But, when they are done, they come out like mini muffins. That makes them easy to take to work for lunch. I am going to try and be sure they don't get overdone- but I'm excited to try this.

I've read people that say that they don't do shakes and get all of their Protein from food. HOW? Please enlighten me. I know it's temporary, but for now I'm doing good to get the Water in with whatever food I can get down (1-2 oz now on average) and then 2 shakes to bring me up to my surgeon's 70 protein. I'm assuming you guys didn't do protein powders (which I've found that the ones I'm not allergic to, I gag back up). I know, I know... I'm sure in two months I'll laugh at myself ba…

I just tried yellow squash for the first time ever in my life. A lady gave me some from her garden. I didn't really even know how to cook it, but I was willing to try it after I looked up the nutrient content. I sliced it like a cucumber and then when the when some of the slices got big I cut them in half or quarters, then sauteed them in butter. I'm still in the mushy stage and they went down super easy!!! 4 oz raw summer squash (¼ lb.): 2 grams effective (net) carbohydrate plus 1 gram Fiber and 18 calories http://lowcarbdiets.about.com/od/carbcounts/a/summersquash.htm

I usually make them with just eggs...got a wild hair and added greek yogurt. After I did all that......which is not easy with the "help" of my 3 year old daughter (love her but she makes a mess) sat down to look up the Protein count of the eggs vs greek yogurt.....and actually the eggs have better protein so I could have stayed with my usual recipe. I have Celiac Disease. For those of you who do not know what that is, here is a basic description: Celiac disease is an autoimmune digestive disease that damages the villi of the small intestine and interferes with absorption of nutrients from food. What does this mean? Essentially the body is attacking itself every time a person with celiac consumes gluten. So, eating gluten free is hard enough considering it's everywhere! But, trying to make good food choices while avoiding gluten is even more difficult. I eat a lot of lean meats which fill me up, but sometimes eating a simple piece of meat over and over becomes a bit, well, to be honest, nauseating. A piece of chic…

I haven't even ventured near fruit and I miss them both terribly as I was an avid produce eater before surgery. Worst of all, I am now experiencing major constipation or pooping bricks. Anyone else have this issue? I really miss my fruit and veggies and feel like a slave to protein........... Btw, I also drink a protein shake once a day that has 45 grams of protein.
