Hello, is anyone interested in doing the body for life challenge? Here is a link to the official website: http://www.bodyforlife.com/index.asp Here is a link to a friend of mine that did the program (and won $40,000), you can see her before pics, scroll down and see her after 12 pics http://www.bodyforlife-tracker.com/showphotos.cfm?id=15910 The program is exercising 6 days a week, example Week 1 Monday - Weight training - upper body exercises (you can print the areas off the official BFL website) Tuesdays - 20 min of aerobic (HIIT) Wednesday - Weight training - lower body Thursday - 20 min of aerobic HIIT Friday - weight training upper body Saturday - 20 m…

I was aiming for the Bridge to Brisbane (5th August, 4.5km) But I found the Ipswich Park 2 Park 5km run. It is two weeks earlier, half a km longer and attracts 19,000 less people. There is also training every Tuesday night for this event, making it more attractive than the 20,000 + person Bridge to Brisbane. I am currently running (jogging? lol) 4km in 30 minutes, is there a hope in hell I could get my time and speed up by the 29th of July? This will be my first fun run of any type, so any idea's or suggestions will be welcome.

Interesting Question Here! This came up on another post that I had. Does exercising help you to feel more full/restricted? Obviously exercise is great, but does it directly affect the sensation of fullness? You don't need a P.H.D. to answer! How has exercise affected you?:fencing:

I have a sneaky feeling that I have a cold coming on...my eyes feel gritty, and my throat is scratchy. So, what I'm wondering is how that might affect my exercise. I typically go to the gym every day, doing a spinning class daily and strength training 2-3 days a week. Do I continue to go even with a cold? Take a OTC cold med before going? Or, take some time off? Or maybe workout at home? Is it rude to show up at the gym with obvious cold symptoms? I hate the idea of anything knocking me off track, but I also want to do what's best for my body and to be considerate of others. Any advice? Tami

I have been reading reports lately that sit-ups and crunches are not what we make them out to be. They (supposed experts) say they don't work for getting rid of the tummy, so what do I do to get rid of it?!?! I'm talking the upper tummy...at least that's what I call it. The lower tummy isn't really a problem. Anyone have any exercise tips/advice for getting rid of it?

After 3 years of pregnancy and breastfeeding with a complete unfill I am ready to get back on the BAND wagon (teeheehee ). I just got a fill and I have a good restriction level, but the main component missing is exercise. I find myself making excuses. I am a nursing student and a mom of 2 kids under 5- so trust me there are plenty of potential excuses out there! But, my school has a gym, my home has a home gym and a treadmill, and there is just no reason why I shouldn't be working out every single day. I have a motto that I have lived my life by: Winners make plans, losers make excuses. Getting the band was part of my "plan" to win the war over my health, but I have…

Puddin, I have been following your progress and am impressed with your accomplishments especially in your dedication to fitness. I am AMAZED at your current training and goals WTG!!! Have you always been pretty athletic? I am having a hard time getting STARTED on a fitness program and would love to have even some of your dedication. How did you get there???? I am still having difficulty exercising because of pains in my knees and hips and even though I want to take up biking my stomach is proving to be a HUGE obstacle- pun intended there. Any advice? Can you share your story of how you got from where you were to the point of training for a triathalon????? THA…

I have been very good about exercising. In fact every day since a week out I have been walking/very light jogging at least 30 minutes on the treadmill, though now I am doing 2 miles a day. Everyday. I hate it. I feel great when I am done. It gives me a lot of energy. But when will I get up in the morning and actually say "Hey I can't wait to walk today"?

Yippee! So I got up this morning and decided to take the bull by the horns and try this exercise thing. I have dreaded exercising but my surgery is in a couple of weeks and I would like to build up my oxygen levels. (I'm a singer so my lungs are good but I thought it would be a good start) Okay, I decided on riding my bike. I rode for only about 20 minutes and didn't go very far. However 10 minutes into it, my jaw started to ache and I tasted blood in my mouth. Did anyone else have this experience when they first started out? I'm also really energized... Does that mean I didn't work hard enough? I know it's only my first day.... still if ya'll could help me answe…

Oprah convinced me in her show with Bob Green, that if you don't exercise or move, then you really don't want to lose the weight. So I rewatched the show and joined a brand new women's only gym. I even hired a presonal trainer for 12 sessions and I AM SCARED...HOLD ME. Just kidding. I have a few questions: Do I need to tell my personal trainer about the band? (I'd rather not) Is there anything I need to be aware of before I embark on this journey? Any advice is appreciated. Thanks in advance. drags feet to shower.....

Hey! Ok..how do I get myself into the gym without feeling embarrassed to be there in the first place??? I want to go..I need to go. I just feel so out of place when I do go. I know everyone has better things to do than look at the big chick walk in, but I still feel like all eyes are watching me until I climb onto a treadmill and almost blend in. I haven't been since last August. I had a trainer then and it was easier with a trainer. On my own..I feel like I just shouldn't be there. Am I crazy?? How do you build up that confidence to get your butt in the gym?? Stacy

Before I had the band my favorite exercise was going on the elliptical at my gym. I had my one-week post-op visit yesterday, and was told only walkng or tread mill for now. I am wondering how long others had to wait after surgery before they could do an elliptical. Thanks!

Hey, I saw an exercise on TV a long time ago for a 'natural' face lift. All you had to do was exaggerate saying 'X' and 'O'. You should feel your cheek and throat muscles stretch and contract. You can really feel it if you say 'O' like you're howling, with lips going upward. I've done this for years and, although I have a fat chin, I don't have a double chin. I really think it helps. What do you all think?

This is a message for the guys. Have any of you lost all of the excess weight you wanted to by adhering to a really vigorous workout program? I'm getting banded on the 28th of February, and I've lost about 20 pounds since 1/18. I also joined a mixed martial arts class that far exceeds any cardio that I currently do. Have any of you that do do a lot of exercise experienced any problems with the port or the band because of stomach crunches or anything like that?

I've been going to gym for almost 2 months now, 5 days a week, mostly doing cardio and some free weights. I've lost 8 kilos (17ish pounds) in this time. However as I lose weight I notice my butt sagging more than I would like. Now I know that I can't help much if I end up with loose skin in that area. But are there any exercises I can do to firm up my butt and hips under neath that skin (and possibly that might help avoid the skin sagging to its worst)? Just an fyi, I can't do anything even resembling squats or lunges. I have incredibly sore knees after a single set of these exercises, so I have been avoiding any kind of leg exercises (as a result for the first time i…

I just wanted to start a thread to see what kind of technology everyone is using to keep track of their exercise routines. I am only one week out of my banding, and haven't got clearance for a full workout yet, but I am going to look like a cyborg when I walk out of the dressing room at the gym. Here's what I am going to be using. 1. Body Bugg http://www.bodybugg.com- I have been using this for the past several months. It's a little pricey to get started with, but it's a great tool for keeping track of caloried burned both at the gym and during my everyday routine. It connects to the web and updates all my information to my online profile. 2. Nike +iPod- I bought th…

I started exercising about a month ago using the elastic bands (bodylastics) and using their circuit training dvd and I am really ( to my dismay!!) enjoying it. I do this 6 mornings a week and in the evening I walk the dog and on days we don't go out ( -30 wind chill is a really good reason not to go out!) I ride the bike. While my knees have improved greatly with the weight loss, they are still not good enough to do squats or lunges. What targets thighs? I know they are smaller then they were but I need to buy a larger size just to fit them and then the tops of my jeans need a belt! Also as I get "looser" my thighs are heading for my knees! Looks like another summ…

I am concerned! I've come across quite a few bandsters on here who are totally obsessed with exercise, weighing themselves and counting calories! Now this is the kinda stuff eating disorders are made of and that scares the hell out of me. I have suffered from a binge eating disorder for years and feel that I'm getting better but I know that if I start obsessing again I will be right back to square one, which is why I cannot do slimmimg clubs. The idea of the band was to restrict the amount I eat but at the same time it was to help me learn to eat when i am hungry and to stop when I am not. I am not going to count calories, i don't need to, we all know when we have…

If I'm only going to get on the treadmill once during my workout, is it better to do it before my weights/abs/etc or after I do those things? I was told that doing it after the 'other' stuff is better for weightloss, and before is better for toning. Anyone know for sure?

I joined Lifetime Fitness just before the New Year; I received a free, no-obligation meeting with a Personal Trainer as part of my signup package. Surprise, surprise, they wanted me to purchase a heart rate monitor (HRM) and showed me all the cool things it would do, including recording my heartrate and uploading the data to their computer to track my progress. While I avoided any commitment, I was intrigued by what the HRM could do. I researched them online, talked with a co-worker who had bought one and decided to purchase one. I bought the Polar F11 from an eBay reseller. Long story short, I love it. I get constant heart-rate readout on the treadmill, stationary bike, …

Hi, I have workout clothes in sizes 22/24, and 2x or 3x tops. There are about 3-4 tops, 1 pair of long pants, 2 capris, and 4 shorts. They are from Junonia, Danskin, or Pro Spirit. Two of the shorts are new and the shirts are in very good condition. While they have been worn and worked out in (!) they are in good enough condition to use while you sail thru those sizes. If you want them, just email me with a PM and I will send them to you. I'd rather have someone on this site use them than just donate them to the Salvation Army. They are probably missing the gym!!! HAHA. Thanks, Rose

I'm just curious...once in a while immediately following a good workout I get the sensation of smelling ammonia??!! As far as I can tell, it's not in my sweat or from my breath. I just get the sensation of smelling ammonia through my nose. I googled it expecting not to find anything and actually I found multiple conflicting articles stating it's a result of too low carbs, possible liver problem...a whole bunch of junk. So...my question is: has anyone else ever experienced this? If so, did you discuss it with a medical professional and what did they say about it? Any info would be helpful. Thanks!

Ok so I finally got my butt moving. I joined a gym and have worked out for 3 days straight. I am going to keep working out until 20 lbs are gone. I've already lost 3 lbs since I began my workout!! :huggie: My workouts have been intense! Ok so my question is, when will I stop feeling completely drained and exhausted by my workout? I know workouts eventually GIVE you energy but so far I am just tired and sore. I want to feel that pumped up energetic feeling! Does it take weeks or will I feel it soon? I need to feel that good feeling soon or I will be SO tired all the time until my 20 lbs are gone.

I am almost 5 months post op and I am still nervous about doing crunches/situps. I walk 2 miles per day and do some minor leg/arm exercises daily, but the way my port feels when I try to do stomach exercises is weird (I can feel my port moving, or something). My upper and lower abs are really what I need to target, so I guess I just need some reassurance, or to know if anyone has experienced problems by doing stomach exercises. Thanks.....

I like to exercise. Its good for me- I know that. Exercising consistantly makes me feel better too. Its just that sometimes I can't. Or at least not consistently. I have fibromyalgia, so if I do too much then I am going to end up in bed the next day or two with a fever and aching all over. I also have narcolepsy and some days I am just too tired to do anything. I found a new neurologist and I am hoping that helps out with the narcolepsy. Latley the fibro has been going through a flair up and I have had a sinus infection so no exercise. It can be discouraging. I have to take time off from the exercise- sometimes its a couple of months- and then build back up again…

I have to admit that I've been avoiding exercise since I got the band, but my weight loss has stopped and I think I need to exercise. The problem is that I had a double bypass 13 years ago; I have a bad heart valve; I smoke like a steam engine; I have a stomach hernia from the heart surgery, and I take care of my 86 year old mother and 7 animals. When I get home from work (I have about 120 students this semester), I just want to lie down. Also I will be 60 this year. I figure I can walk around the neighborhood with 4 dogs following me, but I can't get up the steam to do it. Can any of you talk me into walking? It will take much persuasion, but I'm open to persuasio…

:faint: Just 6 years ago I wasn't good at cardio. I learned to increase my cardio y starting at 15 to 20 minutes on the treadmill. With me I have used a radio and a CD player to keep the boredom from attacking. Place in our favorite music--hopefully it's fast or a good pace. Even though I am 49, I prefer hip hop and some fast R & B music. Keeps me siinging and happy. The deal is to have me get used to the 15 to 20 minutes per day as a beginner. Of course this will be done at your 60 to 80% levels for your heart and pulse rate. I am not a doctor, so all of us will have to check with our Doctors before this program. I am not into arobics--just walking. Eventually I wil…

well I bought a pilates tape - it has the easy, med, and hard going on all at the same time. Me/44, Daughter/20, and daughter/16 did it and we had a blast! I of course did the easy - except the sitting on the butt thing, excuse me but how many of you can roll up from your back onto the butt? I roll over to my side, use my hands and knees to get up and then over to my butt. dd#1 did the med and a little of the hard, dd#2 did the hard all the way through - although she is 5'3" 120 lbs and a cheerleader - but it was fun we laughed and giggled all the way through it - anyone else having fun with pilates?

I have decided that today is the day I put a plan together where I can be either competition ready or beach body ready by May of 2007. I am at the point now where I want to try my hand at body building. Here's my plan: Weight Training My weight training will be consisted of a six day a week split, created and designed to put emphasis on each muscle group, individually and allowing me maximum recovery.
