I seem to be angry now. Mostly angry that I couldn't afford weight loss surgery until last June at age 62. Now that I've lost a lot of weight and the loose skin thing is getting bad and I think about how much worse it is going tp be I feel even angrier. Up to now I've focused on the positives - and there are many - but the anger is getting more frequent. The well is dry. No money for plastic surgery. Every extra bit I have now goes toward retirement. A psychologist friend thinks I probably have some aging issues mixed in with the weight stuff which is probably true. I'm going to try to find s psychologist to see who has bariatric experience. I'm not impressed with the …

Hello everyone. Please help if you can. I had my surgery on April 12, 2012, three days ago. I knew it wouldn't be easy, but I do have some questions for you with things that I found "strange" 1. Did anyone else have A LOT of suliva? I feel like I have so much I can't swallow it all. 2. When does the gas pains go away? I do walk a lot and did in the hospital as well, but everytime I take a sip, I feel gas pains...is this normal? 3. Am I strange that I can't get the protein in I am supposed to? I can't eat much right now and I feel like all I do is drink and try to eat (not at the same time). Any thoughts would help. Thanks

I am 10 months post sleeve and down 100lbs since day of surgery. Unfortuntely my husband and I separated a few weeks ago. I'm in a very bad place mentally. I'm heart broken for my kids but I KNOW in my heart this is for the best. My husband does not want this. We've had problems prior to my surgery though and now I just can't take it anymore. It infuritates me that people think "oh she lost that weight now she is going to leave him." I've heard that comment about some of my friends that had WLS. That is sooo not the case with us. I'm seeing a therapist and taking it literally one moment at a time. I'm scared and very upset with myself. I have been eating JUNK...lots of …

Hi guys, I am not sleeved yet, looking at June at this point ! I guess a 40th birthday present for myself. My question is, last night was my first night sleeping with the CPAP mask. I lasted only a couple hours and had to rip it off as I felt I was being smothered. I tried a couple times during the day to lay down and get comfortable with it but just can't. I have the nose and mouth covered - not sure what that is called. The rep that came to the house tried to convince me to do just the nose but I couldn't. I am apparently a mouth breather and couldn't keep my mouth shut ! Anyhow, any others out there that have some advise for me on getting adjusted to …

I just registered to this site today after lurking for the past couple of days. My first office visit was in early February. I have been at 380 over the past two years, although I had fluctuated as musch as 40 pounds lower. Prior to that I peaked at 400, and prior to that (1999-2009) I have been in the 300s bouncing up ad down with different diet attempts. Over the last 10 years my primary had suggested bariatric (GBP) being an endocrinologist and very aware of the tendency toward diabetes, heart disease, etc. and I was critical of a surgical solution to what I believed to be solely a behavioral issue. Having gone twenty pounds up and ten pounds back for 10+ years, and …

Through the years I packed on the pounds, and he got comfortable with me not being hit on. Now that I have lost weight he is noticing that other guys are interested in me....and he really doesnt like it. He is a thin man, and very attractive, but for some reason he has very low self esteem. I have tried to explain to him that I love him and I am not interested in any other man. He loved me while I was fat, and at my worst, so why wouldnt I love him while I am thin and at my best? He is constantly getting pissed when he sees men checking me out, and n…

Being obese in America is hard-even traumatic. We are discriminated against for being "fat, lazy slobs" and expected to be "jolly" all the time. We are treated rudely by store clerks, doctors, flight attendants, etc and considered to have no will power and to eat all the wrong foods and know nothing about nutrition. We learn to have guilt and feel shame about ourselves, our appearance, our eating habits, our sexual needs, etc. We even start discriminating against ourselves with the same mores of our culture. My experience as an obese person for 45 years and a Licensed Professional Counselor for over 20 years has led me to some conclusions about our therapy needs while u…

  17. I am currently 6.5 wks post op and trying to find my way in terms of what will be successful for me. I believe that my weight issue has been a result of food abuse. In the past, I learned that deprivation will not work. I learned that receipes will not work since I have very little time working and with two small kids. I am happy to have a meal with my family much less cook three different meals - also I don't cook much to begin with.... My question is has anyone had long term succes or reached their goal by merely decreasing or restricting the volume of food they eat in addition to a commited excercise plan?

  18. It breaks my heart when I see these kind of "news" articles. First, for someone to have to go through such a humiliating experience like this has to be traumatic in and of itself. But, then I see that absolute vicious things people write in the comments about someone who has gotten to this point. I know that all my life as I have gained and lost, I would often justify to myself.... "well, I'm not THAT big" as I would see someone else out in public. It was just another form of denial about my own weight issues. I think given similar circumstances it might be difficult for most of us on this forum to say that we wouldn't have ever reached that point. We don't have …

My blood pressure used to run about 164/92 which is crazy high. I was not on and meds for it. Today my blood pressure was 120/84!!! Wow I am so happy to see that change with out meds. It's almost normal and I am only 40 lbs down with about 120 left to go. Also took my daughter out to lunch at the cracker barrel and only spent $11.92 with a tip included...lol... that was really nice!!! Instead I left feeling a little worried about my health. My blood pressure was 89/50 and dr seemed concerned by how low and he restricted some of my work duties. Anyone else experience something like this? It was also low in the hospital. Dr did tell me that I lost a lot of blood during my procedure, but not enough for a transfusion. Could it be that my body hasn't made enough blood yet to replace what was missing? They didn't even do blood work. I'm not sure if that is normal for the 2 week check up? Maybe he di…

  33. Hi. I am new and only just beginning the process of trying to be revised. I've seen my band doctor about it, and he is getting something together to submit to insurance for approval. I am hoping to avoid starting over as though I have never had any bariactric surgery. I guess I will know more in a few weeks. I have been banded since 1998. At my highest, I weighed 254. I lost down to 169. I held steady at 174 for almost two years. I don't have an erosion. My band has simply stopped helping me. Over the last year, I have been dealing with either being able to eat everything in sight to not being able to get more than sips of broth down. I am just tired of fills …

In truth, when I made myself accountable I had my first Cereal, my first crackers, first dessert-like food, and I dont even like to eat them anymore. Even when it was the good stuff it was constant. It wasn't head hunger, I call it heart-hunger. For those of you who don't know - many of you do and have been so supportive - I had my surgery on January 4th of this year. I'm working with my surgeon tto schedule to get the band removed and go with a sleeve instead. Has anyone done this? How was the recovery? Does it seem to be worse than what people say about sleeve surgery alone? From what I've read online almost all people say they were SOOOO glad to get rid of the band and go to the sleeve so I'm excited and hoping it gets approved. At this point I have about 45 more lbs to lose. Thanks for any info!

So, I had my gastric sleeve a week ago today, and all the things that I thought would be, are not... The healing is going pretty roughly, food is no longer a priority, and honestly, eating is more a chore now. I just wanted to get some thoughts or advice on how to transition into this new 'normal' more fluidly and less drastically. I feel like my life is at a standstill with how weak I am and how I'm still in a lot of pain. Once I get back to moving and shaking, does anyone know how to make food seem less like a burden, or does that come naturally? I'm just scared with how everything is changing so much and I'm scared I won't be able to keep up... :-(
