Hi Everybody, I live in the Cayman Islands and have my revision surgery scheduled for September with Dr. Ortiz in Tijuana. Yeah! I was just wanting to get some feedback on what everyone's post-op diets were like? How long on clear liquids and then full liquids, etc. How long before you were able to eat regular foods? Any recipe ideas or dos and don'ts when recovering from the surgery. I know my doctor will give me his guidelines... but, I just wanted to get an idea from some others who have gone through this before me. Thanks for your help! Dottie

I am a 49 year old male, 5'7" and currently weigh 226lbs (at my highest, I was around 260) with a BMI of 35.4. I've been heavy all of my life and have yo-you dieted for as long as I can remember. I know that vsg is the right choice for me but I still have my doubts and want to see that it will work for someone starting where I am starting. I'd like to know how much water you can drink in one sitting, and how much water do you drink before, during, and after an intense workout? This is one part of the surgery that I think might get to me. When I work out hard, I'm thirsty, and then I wonder... What now?

Okay, so my goal was to lose at least twenty pounds by surgery time in July. Now I'm 280, and I thought it would be a good idea to lose so there would be less to lose after surgery. I see that you lose a little slower being a smaller starting weight. Disclaimer: I know everyone is different, and weight loss varies. I also notice that within the first six months seems to be the biggest months for loss. I still plan on getting my bike and losing weight but do you think starting bigger will result in a faster weight loss at the start?

My tummy is really sore today like I need a band to lift it. Is this normal. Some of yesterdays pain is gone but now its a new kind of pain. Is this normal. It all seems to be in my upper belly now but the bottom seems heavy. Thoughts?

Ok so I read somewhere that some people have their gallgladder removed at the same time as their sleeve because the gallbladder will just go bad in 10 years anyway! Does anyone have any info on this?

I went in today for my pre-op appointments. My surgery was scheduled for the 27th of this month, and they moved it to April 24th. Part of me is disappointed that it's not next week like I'd planned, but the other side of me is happy, because this makes it easier to get people that can help me post-op. Either way, I've got a new surgery date!

Hi everyone, It's been a while since I have logged on and read posts. I had my sleeve surgery in November 2011. Surgery was rough, but successful. The scales have been steady for about a month. I am tired all the time and honestly have not exercised (not sure why). Could you some encouragement. Also, have a gurgling sound after I eat. Any idea how to get rid of it? Any support, suggestions, anything is greatly appreciated.

Did you all hear that Carnie Wilson is going to get the lap band??? She had gastric bypass years ago and lost a ton of weight, then got pregnant and has gained a lot back and now is going to have the lap band. I didn't know this was possible. My other captain aboard my vessel just received a phone call saying that his aunt is having surgery today. She has gotten banded 4 years ago and the last couple of days shes been feeling real funny and weak. Finally she collapsed twice before the ambulance arrived. She was also spitting up blood. Upon CT scan a hole was found caused by erosion from the lapband. So as of now they put a stent in and some clamps to help it heal. I told him to tell his family now would the perfect time to do the band to sleeve revision. If they dont see an improvement. I almost did choose the lapband until the seminar showed me the sleeve. And from that point on knew it was the way to go

Hey all! I'm 24 and married and me and my husband are ready to start trying for kids. When I decided to do the surgery I went back and forth on whether I wanted to try and get pregnant first or have surgery first. I decided for surgery because my weight could harm me and a baby during pregnancy. That being said---How long do I need to wait after surgery to get pregnant? I know at the very least 6 months, but after that is it fair game? Also, does the sleeve cause any additional problems when it comes to getting enough food and nutrition for your baby?

Okay, My foot has always been long, and wide. I never carried weight in my foot, like some do. My feet are veiny, a little boney, but I am curious if I would lose a size. My entire life I've been a 9.5/10B sometimes W. After pregnancy my foot went up a size, and I know that can happen permanently after a child. I'd love if I could get back to a 10. When I was 250 (pregnancy weight) I wore a 10, after pregnancy when I returned to 250 my foot was an 11, so I know it's not a weight thing, but I'd like to assume, hehehe. I am 3 weeks post-op and STILL have pain-- a muscular pain that has really prevented me from doing much. It is the left to my belly button and wraps around to my back. I thought I had a kidney infection but when I saw my Dr. at my 2 week po appt last week she said that it is common (especially in women) to have the pain go through the back and it's because the muscle they cut through is deep and starts near the back. Well today I was out for a walk and all of a sudden I felt a "pop" under my left incision and I stopped in my tracks. WTH? Thanks for saving me a seat post-oppers!! Still in the hospital but should be released this afternoon as long as the surgeon is convinced I can keep everything down (so far have kept everything down) and that I can take in enough fluids to not get dehydrated (doing fine so far). Have had some gas pain and some regular pain but its kept under control with pain meds and walking for gas pains. Switched from IV pain meds to liquid meds by mouth this morning and, although it tastes terrible, got them down fine. All in all, doing about as I expected and hope it just gets better each day I even have a fellow VSTer in the room next door (mrjgetssleeved) and he is going goo…

I think I am having a bad moment, but not sure. I feel so tired and I get hot flashes for no reason. I am also disgusted with myself because I can't make the 64 oz water mark:( I am barley at 30 oz. hallo, Protein powders dont work for me yet. Why can I not cook and liquidize something like salmon to get at least some of my daily Proteins? 3oz have 20grams of protein.6oz is 40g.and liquidized and STRAINED with 7oz of broth it is your food and your protien for the day.less to drink,less time to get it in. Determined to do this though and feel like it's my chance for a do over...My current BMI is 37 and my goal is 23. Doing the Bariatric Advantage 2 shakes, 3 bars and 5 oz lean meat, 2 vegetables a day for my pre-op.

I've noticed that a lot of people post about hair loss. Is this something that happens to everyone or just some people? Is there anything I can do to prevent it? I've already got really thin hair, can't imagine losing any!

Hi all, got back from Mexico last night from my VSG last Thursday with Dr. Kelly. I feel pretty good, although today I am pretty tired so have been doing a lot of sleeping. I think the flight takes more out of you than you might think...or at least mine did! But my incisions look great, I am getting used to the siping, and am generally happy overall with how things are going. How is everyone else doing? Hey everybody So I am officially 6 months post-op and I have lost 100 lbs. I am thrilled, except I have hit a HUGE stall. I used to lose 2-3 lbs per week, pretty much no matter what. If I didn't lose one week than I lost more the next. At this point I have gone 3 weeks without any scale movement at all. I know my shape has changed as I've dropped some sizes, but I'm worried that my body is going to like this weight and remain there. I still have another 25 lbs until I am just at the "normal" BMI range and I have another 40ish to hit my "goal" (which is not set in stone, but I want to be firmly within the normal range if I can). I had my surgery on March 7th going from band to sleeve. The surgery was much more involved because of the amount of scarring from the band. The doctor expressed concerns about the healing process and I am on a three week liquid diet post surgery (one more week to go). I had a follow up appointment yesterday and the doctor commented more about the implications of scarring saying he was concerned that since this was at the top of the stomach he was concerned about the flexibility of the stomach - so that food wouldn't get stuck. I am less than 20 hours away from starting the walk from here to losers bench. While driving to work the skinny me in my head that is trying to get out said "Play Beyonce, Love on Top!" So of course I listened. As I was driving and singing to the top of my lungs I started to realized that I have finally put my love for my self on top! April 24 th I will be sleaved!!!! I can't wait have all my clearence's done except cardiologist which is next Monday!!! I am 33 yrs old 5'3" tall and weight in at about 235. I had my sleeve surgery on march 7th, and have been nothing but unhappy and depressed about the whole thing since. I didn't gphave problems until I came home, and mostly it was that mtpy pain meds (liquid vicodin) were so gross that I couldn't keep up with it and found myself dehydrated and in a lot of pain, which sent me to the ER. They did a an xray to see if it was gas, then a cat scan and said I had some Fluid around my spleen, but that it was probably drainage from surgery. (I asked them if it could be leakage and they said no, I would be very ill. He also phone my surg…

My surgery is 8am tomorrow, I can't believe it....trying for over 6 month, it's finally here. I only hope I can stop driving myself crazy tonight. Worried about all sort of medical issues that could arise....a little knowledge is deadly. On another note, I'm so excited to get some help for my weight issues. I'm 51 years old and I'm dog tired of being obese. I'm looking forward to some of my many future goals...riding roller coasters and planes comfortably, wearing clothes from the "regular sizes", and so many more.

I guys I'm getting a sleeve but have been thrown back by my friends comments, have you gotten pregnant after the sleeve I know I gotta wait and I will but things like food intake for the baby and weight gain after pregnancy worries me, what about infections?

This is taking forever!!!! I want my surgery already. Lol. Okay, so I've been getting all my appointments out of the way. On the paper that I was given it states that my pre-op testing ( blood work, EKG, and chest xray) should be done within 3 weeks of my surgery date. When I'm done with the that I contact my doctor for my letter of medical clearance 2 weeks prior to my date. After all of that I make a final appointment to see my surgeon 1-2 weeks prior to the surgery date for my preop visit including instructions and prescriptions. So when I called and asked the secretary of my surgeon when I would get a date she said after all of my testing. Does that make any sense?…

MARCH 21, 2012 I am excited to be on the final stretch of the pre op experience! Nervous - YEs! Why you ask? Because I am nervous about what the other side of BIG GIRL is out there! Excited??? Hell Yes! But, I am still me and know somethings will change but me being healthy and around for my husband and kids..... PRICELESS! I have many mini goals after surgery. I'm still losing pre-op, and I'd like to lose twenty by surgery, so, what I want to know is did you by goal clothes? My biggest goal would be to be a size 2/4, but happy with a 6. However I won't buy those anytime soon, so I figure if I'm going to by something it has to be something I really like, and it would be something I don't think I could get in the future. I can think of many times I passed on something and never saw it come out again. So.. I was thinking about getting one or two pieces of clothing in a large. Hello, I just wanted to say thank you real quick to everyone on here. I don't post a lot, but I do read these forums often. So thank you to all those who are willing to share their stories. I wanted to ask how some of you that are further along in your journey take all the new attention and amounts of compliments you get after your obvious, drastic change in your look. So today I got a phone call stating that someone canceled their surgery and they had an opening for this upcoming Wednesday to see the surgeon so im most likely looking at an April surgery instead of May. i do alot of whining and self sabotaging. i worry too much what the scale says. but all in all i must say nothing feels better than when u see someone on the street and they tell you how good your looking and they cant believe the difference. I say that beats the scale victories hands down.

I had my revision on the 17th of February and now am dealing with a rash, redness, swelling and itching from a delayed reaction to the Heprin shots. Anyone else have to deal with this? How long before it got better? Dana
