I have been posting so long here that I actually thought of my community here before I thought to call a friend, lol. I am married and happily, commitedly so - so please do not take what I am am getting ready to say wrong - he knows and he feels so bad for me too, which just makes it worse. Circumstances came together a few days ago to require an old, dear, special friend to need a place to be for a few days. We had not parted in the best way, so I was very suprised that they called - but they remembered I promised them they would never be without a home if they needed it. I meant it and so for the first time in a very long time we got to see each other. They were jus…

Hey guys, I'm still pre-op but I'm hearing that the liquid that you have to drink for the barium leak test is disgusting and makes you nauseous. I saw that someone sucked on a lollipop afterwards so i found these "three lollies queasy drops" at walgreens....Has anyone tried these? I knew they had preggie pops for morning sickness then i found these. Are we allowed to suck on these after the surg, and for the test to cut down on the nausea and nasty taste????

Impatiently counting down the days to get rid of this crap-band. I am sitting here on a Saturday morning trying to enjoy some scrambled eggs. First bite and I am stuck and in so much pain! I HATE IT! The thing that sucks about my band is that the first bite always gets stuck and then nothing after that. No restriction, nothing! This POS can't get out of me fast enough.

I have my band to sleeve revision scheduled for March 27th, but the person who was supposed to take me to and from the hospital and stay with me for a couple days after is no longer able to. My husband is deployed and I don't live near any family. Literally, I have no other options. Has anyone ever driven themselves home from the hospital after this surgery? I can drop my pets off at the sitter so I won't have to walk up and down stairs multiple times by myself and bend to feed them and such. I just honestly don't remember the recovery from my band all that much, and I had my husband home to help me. Am I getting myself into something absurdly stupid, if I plan to g…

I just joined this group. I am starting the process for the sleeve. I live in SE Texas and am traveling to Houston for this surgery. It will be a revision from lapband. My lapband slipped, and I did not have very good results with it, only lost 60 lbs and had it since 5/09. I saw Dr. Sherman Yu last Thurs. Anyone had surgery by him? He did a bypass on my dght 2 yrs. ago with good results. I wanted a bypass, but he seems to think the sleeve will work for me. That is great because it is less surgery and hopefully the same results. I go on the 29th for EGD am having the labs Monday , nutrition consult on the 28th. Hopefully Monday I can get my cardiac clearance let…

I am female, 5'5" tall and want to know what a good goal weight should be for myself (realistic). The reason I am having a problem with figuring this out is because I am big boned. I know, I know, you haven't heard that before, but really I am. I'm like a puppy that never grew into the large feet and hands that I have. I wear a size 11 shoe and I can palm a basketball. I am the shortest person in my family. My dad is 6'3", my brother is 6'5", my mom is 5'8". Anyone out there my height or taller with the same problem that might have a rule of thumb they use or maybe hit goal? I go into surgery on Tuesday and would love some guidance on a goal to aim for. SW: 246 …

For the last 4 days I have weighed in at the same amount. I am a little over 4 weeks out & I have hears of several people talk about a stall around this time. For those of you who have had stalls, how long did yours last? Also, very close to my visit from aunt Flo. Could that be a contributor?

This is something my constant churning mind thought of last night. Do you perform the Heimlich the same way on a sleeved person as on a person with a normal sized stomach? I haven't done any official research on it just wondering if anyone had heard anything related to that. Thanks!

Pre-Op or Undecided: Ever thought about chosing a different surgery? I started out wanting the bypass before research, then once I started the process my mind was set on the sleeve. I recently found myself thinking about the DS. If I were to reroute my intestines, I'd do the DS not just the bypass. My hospital doesn't do it. I like the sleeve because If I'm right, lets say for whatever strange reason it didn't work for me I would be able to do the DS, although I'm pretty confident with the sleeve alone. Post Op: Have you wished you did the bypass, or even currently think about doing the DS?

Sorry to post this in this forum area. I wasn't sure where else to post it. I will be getting my sleeve in May and going on vacation (to celebrate the big 4-0) in October. I wanted to hear from some of you on how you deal with vacations while sleeved. I will be a few months out so it will be up to me to work my sleeve and remain in control. We are staying at an adult only all-inclusive resort so the food and drinks will be flowing. I know it is a ways off but I am already worried about how to deal with this situation. Thank you for letting me rant.

Hey everyone! I just wanted to start a thread to introduce myself, but also to hear from other members who might be new to VSG and updates on the progress of those "veteran sleevers". I'd love to hear from all of you! It's such great inspiration to hear your stories, especially since we're all in our twenties. I am 22 yrs old and scheduled for my surgery on March 15th. (8 more days!) I'm super excited, but of course nervous about the potential for complications. It's been a whirlwind of emotions - as I'm sure you've all experienced. I love knowing that others have been in my exact shoes headed toward a healthier life! I weigh 276 lbs now and have a goal weight of 1…

Yep... I said it I hate eating. Who would believe those words came out of my mouth. What a complete life style change to adapt to. Everyday is a chore eating. It starts out good, the first bite goes down smooth after chewing chewing chewing. Then the second bite causes burping and more burping, etc. By the third bite... holy crap. I feel tightness in my chest and the pain starts. I get up and walk and burp which takes the pain away after 10 mins. Then the process starts all over again with the same outcome and I do chew chew chew and space the bites. Oh, I forgot to mention that the food I may have eaten yesterday will definitely cause me to vomit today. My calo…

There are so many of you out there who are so wise and educated on the whole subject of weight loss surgery. Today I am reaching out to those of you who might have had experience with the subject that I need help on. First a little history...... About a 18 months ago, I started to think that WLS might be for me. I actually went and saw a bariatric surgeon locally and he and I discussed a VSG. He convinced me that it was the procedure of choice for me. When I investigated my insurance, I found out that they wouldn't pay $0.01 towards the surgery, so I started thinking about cashing in one of my 401Ks to pay for it myself. I approached my husband, who was 100% agai…

I went to the required Orientation on Tuesday and today i get to meet with the surgeon and find out exactly what I will have to do to get my sleeve. Since I had a lapband I'm not sure if I'll be required to jump through all the hoops but at this point, I'm ok with just starting with step one. .... as long as it's followed by step two, three and four!!! LOL

Well people, another week has gone by. How is everyone doing? Some great news today, I weighed in at 185 so that's two pounds down from last time so I'm excited More good news... my hairdresser says my hair is in much better shape than it was a few months ago. Some of the shine is gone, and the texture feels a little different, kind of cotton-like. But it's not falling out like crazy anymore and actually coming back some. I think it looks pretty good. So how is everyone else doing? Kristina- thank you for the encouragement last week. It really helped kick me back into gear.

Hello, So all of my pre op consults are scheduled. My meeting with Surgeon is in may with a tentative surgery month of June. I am traveling on vacation the second or third week of july, so hoping that date works. I can always schedule it for hen I return. Looks like my insurance will cover. BMI = 46 and I am type 2 diabetic. Pre determination letter needs to be sent and approved in May, but I was told they usually have 2 week turnaround. Keeping my fingers and toes crossed!

We have been married a little over a yr and on Jan. 31 2012 he had his sleeve done. I'm trying to be supportive but it's becoming harder as the weeks pass. At first I was going to the gym with him but now he goes late at night (9:30-10ish) when I'm exhausted from the day. I have in and let him take over the grocery shopping and cooking so that he can be sure to get what he needs and I don't mess him up. So far our biggest challenge has been the dinning out. I'm not big on going out since I feel that I'm never home with work and college both full time, but he does not work and feels that he is treating me by going out. I have explained that I would rather stay home s…

Hey there All-Stars! So I meant to post this yesterday (Saturday) but I got busy and forgot. Consider this our Saturday check in a day late! I weighed 195 lbs yesterday, same as last week, so no loss for me this week. Even though I know this will happen at times, and that the scale will move again, it still bums me out a bit to see the same number 2 weeks in a row. On the bright side, I am losing inches and dropping clothes sizes, so I know things are still working. Here's to an even better week next week! Kristina

Today I seem to be a bottomless pit and nothing satisfies, I just want ... I don't know what I want. I even picture various pure evil junk foods, trying to determine what I want, and none of them ring my bell. Then I think, do I want to exercise, am I actually dehydrated and need water, do I want to shop. Then I dig deeper and try to suss out what deeper needs might be going unmet, or anxieties, and I only find my usual worries and frets, nothing new or out of the ordinary. I've eaten chicken garam masala and a snickers bar and it isn't even 10:30 am yet!!!! I could just eat and eat I feel, but what do I want? Salt sounds good, grilled cheese, a massage, kissing, sl…

Three and a half weeks out and I am on pureed foods, but have also had some soft foods too. I cannot eat more than two tablespoons of anything and found out the hard way how the sleeve lets you know when you have had enough. (ie- vomiting). Best thing I have eaten so far is cottage cheese- how sad is that !! Anyway, today I am down 22 pounds from pre surgery weight and 33 lbs from the beginning of the year.

Hi there, So, how is everyone doing this week? What have you done to take care of you this week??? Here's what I'm doing: 1) Drinking LOTS of Water. I find that many times when I feel hungry, I'm actually just thirsty. 2) Getting plenty of rest. I'm actually trying to change my sleep pattern so I wake up earlier in the morning. I would like to work out in the mornings, if possible, when I get there. So I have been taking it easy during the week at night and going to bed early. 3) An apple a day. This SO works! I like apples ok, they're not my favorite, but they sure help me feel full. And sometimes I find that it takes me forever to eat an apple. So I just nibble on…

Hi Everybody, My name is Dottie and I live in the Cayman Islands. I had LapBand surgery with Dr. Ortiz in August 2007. Had my first fill in Oct 4, 2007. Went back to work in the Caymans and did okay for about 8 months losing weight. Band was really tight in the AM and somewhat tight for lunch and fine for dinner. And then all of a sudden, Band was too tight...had a hard time with liquids... no matter what time of the day. So, I was on a liquid diet for about 2 months until I could get back to the States for an unfill. Had an unfill in August of 2008. Lost some more weight... total loss from pre-op diet to lowest was 77 pounds... from 307 to 230 in about one year. Stopp…

Hi All...I have been reading and lurking on here and after alot of thought, soul searching and prayer I think I might be ready to go down the WLS road...again! I was banded back in 2008 and had all the normal PB, slime, vomiting and general crud that you have when you are banded. But I did lose 50# so I was willing to deal. Until Dec 2010 when it slipped and completely blocked my stomach. So thanks to Dr. Fisher at Kaiser Richmond, he removed the blasted thing and lo and behold I could eat again.... Fast forward a year and I have regained all the weight I lost and it brought friends. I am soooo discouraged since I now weigh MORE than I did when I got banded. And …

I just cant seem to fight my addiction to food. I eat CONSTANTLY. Sure, I cant eat very much at one time, but as soon as I have some breathing room, I go at it again. It's ridiculous. I knew this would be a problem, but I thought I would be able to over-come it. So far....thats not the case. I get so down and depressed and full of self hate for putting myself through so much to only EFFF it up by eating like a cow again. I still have 40lbs to lose, and I am just over 1 year out, I dont see this happening for me anytime soon if at all. I dont know what to do except vent on here.

If you aren't local you just might nit understand what a big event the Houston LS & R is, but it talkes over the Reiliant Stadium, Toyota Center, and adjacent real estate (hundreds or acres) and parking lots all around - rodeo, shopping, shopping, shopping, food, food, food, live big name venues every night, every type of farm demonstration and animal, etc... ..oh yeah, and the carnival. I will be riding the rides today, for the first time in years.... I will NOT be eating the fried anything! or the popcorn! I have been "thinking" about WLS for about 1 year. Last year I did a pretty restrictive diet and inbetween ate normally. I lost close to 40lbs without a whole lot of effort (gained the holiday 10, but that is almost officially off too). I am 35 and don't want to wait until I am 45. I went into my surgical consult last month convinced to get the band. However, they seemed real keen on the VSG and saying without saying not so much on the band. So I have been reading both. I am fat, but I have no health problems related to weight. My blood pressure is good (105-117/65-80 on average). My cholesterol is good, triglycerides are good, my HDL is good. My blood sugar is…

Ok so I thought I was past this point. I had just reported on my YouTube channel that my upper left abdominal pain was almost gone. Now 4 days later it's back but more so in my chest(sternum) area r smack in the l side near my heart. I am so sick of this. 6 wks out and I thought all this was behind me. After a CT scan with contrast and pcp examine nothing was discovered. I am convinced there is something going on n my body. Well guess now its time to see a bariatric surgeon. Since I had my surgery in Mexico I can't go see that surgeon...ughhh! Thankfully I can't eat, drink and move about. I just can't stand not knowing what the hell this feeling is or what it is. I …

I am two days post op and doing good. Pain in the incision area, but overall not too much. Lapband revision to a gastirc sleeve, glad the lap band is gone. Directed by doc to start full liquids at home, but I am not ready. Clear fluids going down real good. I will stick with that for a couple more days. Sleeved at Fort Jackson. To God be the glory I came out alright. Also, thanks for all the replies and comments, I was truly prepared for most things. Appreciate you all!

Ok, I have some of the body shapewear and stuff, that's all fine and dandy- but I don't like the ones that you have to step into because it makes going to the bathroom a real pain in the arse. Even worse if I have to go in a hurry. I have come to love a compression shirt a dear friend gave me because I wear it JUST like a shirt and I LOVED it but I think someone stole it off the hook I had it on with my clothes in the fitness room at work. I'm not 100% on that because I often am leaving at the end of a workout in a hurry and I just wear my workout clothes home and stuff my work clothes in my bag. Soooo... I am looking for a compression shirt with sleeves. They can…
