I want to make something very clear before i start. This is just a one day test .. a test to see what my sleeve can and can't handle at 16 weeks. I do not condone anything of what i am about to share. This is a test and should be used only as a source of information. I am doing this so you won't have to! So at 16 weeks out i want to see what my sleeve aka "Bananaman" can handle in terms of type and amount of food. Two tests: Sodas and fast food ** NOTE: My findings are short and to the point ... If you would like more details about each test please send me a private message and i would be very happy to share it with you. Test 1: Sodas I had three 330 ml diet co…

So I'm about the pickiest eater around. I have no problem whatsoever eating low fat. However, I have a HUGE problem eating and drinking low sugar and sugar free foods and drinks due to the sugar substitutes they use. I also cannot stand yogurt of any kind or cottage cheese...two foods I see mentioned a lot. I don't wanna give the impression that I don't want to work my future sleeve, BECAUSE I SO DO!!! But I just cannot do sugar substitutes of any kind. They literally make me gag! I don't have a problem adding a lot more Protein to my diet though. Just so long as it isn't in the form of something with sugar substitute. Is there anyone out there who eats a highe…

Some addicts say they don't need a reason to drink/drug/binge, but I eat when I am scared. I eat when I am afraid of harm/beingpunished/having done something wrong. I eat to seek not just comfort but ...so I won't feel so afraid? It is difficult to express tihs feeling. I just realized it this morning when, confronted with the idea of actions on the part of my boss, sent me head first into my lunch bag. It is 7:30 in the morning. Why would I think that food would "fix" that? Anyone have any cognitive therapy advice, or any thoughts?

What if I always weigh almost 300 pounds??? I had my surgery Jan 24th. At first I was losing about half a pound a day, but after a couple of weeks, that slowed, then stopped. This month I have lost 6 pounds. My nutritionist told me the first six months you lose the fastest. I've lost 31 pounds in 9 weeks, most of it in the beginning. It's always been so HARD for me to lose weight. I had this done to be able to have my knees replaced, and now I'm worrying that my metabolism has just stopped and I'll never lose much more than this. Is this irrational? I know all about stalls, but the idea of not being able to lose more than I did on diets before surgery really makes…

My surgeon only required a one day clear liquid diet the day before surgery. After reading others requirements, I'm putting myself on a two weeks liquid diet. I ordered the nectar sample package. Please, anymore suggestions are welcomed. I figured it wouldn't hurt to get my mind and stomach used to liquids.

Just joined this group......actually I was sleeved Oct 25, 2011 but I didn't see an Oct group....so here I am! I was sleeved in Frankfurt Germany and am 58 years old. I have written a blog every Sunday to outline my journey (sort of a travel / weight loss blog!). Since we were all sleeved about the same time, I would love to see if your experience has been similar to mine. If you have a chance, take a look. Hope you are all doing as well as I am! Down 66 lbs and less than 20 lbs to goal! Love my sleeve!

I am 18 months out, 128 pounds down, still 40 away from goal. I have recently started having painful attacks that are being attributed to my gallbladder, an ultrasound revealed stones. I've done some research though and have discovered that just because you have your GB out doesn't necessarily mean that the painful attacks will stop! I've also heard that it can completely derail your weight loss or even make you gain weight, and that for the REST of your life, you will never again be able to eat some of the more beautiful things in life - a good french cheese, red wine, a rich sauce, red meat. =( =( Can anyone weight in and clear some of this up for me? I'm putting …

I would love to see more activity in this particular forum! Buddies and mentors are exactly what each of us need to get through this tough journey. This is the best thought-of forum here, and more of us need to become familiar with its benefits, be it PRE or POST op. Believe you me this journey IS TOUGH!! I still struggle, every single day... even at a year and a half post op. But for *myself* my greatest reward in all of this is my being able to assist and guide the countless new oppers that visit our site every month. Anyone looking for that one question answered, is all great and nice... but some folks out there may need a little more. That is perfectly okay, a…

Where are yours, and you going to rock them after you're sleeved? Do you rock them now? I have them, and I intend on getting lasering to see how that works on them. Mine are on my shoulders, my stomach, sides, and my arms. I use to use cocoa butter and the generic maderma but didn't work well enough for me. What are you going to do with yours. I'd like to say that after I'm sleeved that I will rock mine, but not too sure. I do know that I probably wont fuss to much about the ones on my shoulders despite they still bug me.

On another forum someone mentioned the allowable liquors/wines for RNY, I am sure it would be the same idea for sleevers. I know sleevers aren't suppose to have any type of alcohol, etc. Anywho, what have you sipped on, and how did you feel?

Hi! I'm just checking in to see how all are doing? I'm doing well. Day 6 of preop diet is done. I think I'm addicted to greek yogurt, YUM!! Also, I think my husband had a slight breakdown today with my surgery. I don't think her realized that it's next week already. He was trying to talk me out of it, but not in a bad way (if that makes sense). He told me he would support me if this is my decision. I just assured him that I know what is involved. It's really hard for him!! I'm not sure if it's the surgery or if he's afraid I'm going to change. One this is for sure, I am planning on changing but in a fantastic way . But anyway, April 1 is Sunday!! We will al…

Hello all you VSGers! I am 1 week post-op, and I learned a very important lesson the hard way today. It was my first day back at work, and I was drinking fat-free chicken broth with unflavored protein powder (delicious). I must have not been paying attention, and drank too quickly. Suddenly I had excruciating pain in my abdomen, chest, and left shoulder. All I could do was put my head in my hand and whimper. My poor co-workers were standing over me wondering what to do. The worst of it passed in about 10 minutes, and now about 1 1/2 hours later it's still painful but bearable. I came home and took pain meds. I realize how very important it is to pay attention when I'm ea…

Well, y'all: It's been too quiet in this forum! :seeya: So I'm posting that I'm officially 2 pounds away from hitting "goal," whatever that means--and I'm sending a shout out to all y'all who are also really close to getting to your goals!! The 190 I set for my goal is based on my remembering that I once weighed that--I'm 6'2", and at 192 currently am at the upper end of "normal" for the BMI scale for my height. I'm wearing sizes 14 and "large" comfortably (loosely, in some, on my way to 12's), down from a tight 26/28 and 3X/4X, so I'm feeling a lot better about how I look. I also don't think I'm going to be stopping at 190, since in the last 10 days, I've droppe…

Hi all! Hope all the new sleevers are doing well and the soon-to-be-sleeved are ready for this awesome journey! I lost 11 lbs. on my liquid diet and I am 5 days postop today and when I weighed myself this morning, I was down 10 lbs. from surgery! 24 lbs. from my highest weight of 287. I've been doing well - no nausea or vomiting at any point postop, stopped pain meds on postop day 2, gas pain was bad the first three days but since then, not a problem. Incisions are healing well and starting to itch I do have a drain in (routine for my surgeon) and will have it removed tomorrow morning at my first postop checkup (and I can't wait! It's driving me nuts and is uncom…

I had my lapband surgery August 2010 and have lost 67 lbs so far. Last November I was having severe reflux and went to my doctor and was told my pouch was stretched. So I was told to do liquid/mushies for 2 weeks and then try adding foods back in and I was good for a while. Then I started a cycle of doing the same thing- horrible reflux and vomiting, doing a liquid diet, going back to solid foods, reflux again....yada, yada, yada. This past Wednesday when I was drinking my Protein shakes I had SEVERE sharp stabbing pain in the center of my chest every time my drink went down. So I went to my doctor today and was told my band has slipped. He took Fluid out and wants to do …

Well, we should have already seen what is considered "normal size" food based on the food chart/observation. I believe it's a palm size of protein, a cup of carbs, and more veggies. Anywho, what I want to know from post ops that are further along (maybe 1.5/2 years) is the amount of food you eat now considered the "normal" amount or is it still smaller in comparison to what the average person might eat? What I have been doing for a few months is measuring my foods, and using smaller plates. Smaller plates is a great tip, especially if you've always had gigantor plates. My bestie had the RNY, and I have asked her to send a picture of her food to get a visual and it does lo…

I am almost 4 weeks post op and get very dizzy while I am standing up. Sometimes it happens when I get up quickly and other times it is when I am just standing. The other day I almostassed out in the grocery store. Kinda scary.. I am drinking 70-90 oz fluid daily and getting in 70+g protein and 600-800 cal per day. My pcp has asked me to increase my cal to 1000 cal per day and increase my sodium. I have a low bmi so I am happy to do that. I also had a calf cramp for almost 2 weeks. Pcp is testing for blood clots.

I had my surgery 14 months ago and have lost 94 lbs, more than I had ever hoped. I am thrilled to be slender and for the most part maintaining my weight loss is easy. However, I was reminded today that surgery was on my stomach, not my brain. Pre-op, I loved sweet things. pancakes, donuts, cinnamon rolls for Breakfast and chocolate, ice cream, and cakes for dessert after lunch AND dinner to say nothing of TV Snacks. Post-op, I avoided carbs until I reached goal. I tried a few bites of Desserts then but they tasted too sweet and not as good as I remembered so I didn't pursue eating them. Yesterday I saw on a website that Cold Stone Creamery was having a BOGO sale…

I am having some acidy feeling in my stomach, and i have not been able to associate it with a particular food or situation. Before the acidy feeling, I had noticed some nasueau feeling (not severe, but noticable). I will see the doc next week, but curious if others have had the acid/heartburn show up 3+ months out from surgery? I have been drinking a cup of coffee a day since 8 weeks, so am eliminating that (not that i associate the acid with coffee, but i figure I should try eliminating anything questionable). Any other ideas of what to try? I have been taking one proselec every morning since my surgery... no change there. I have felt very happy with my result…

So my boobies have always been big, and not perky. My girls are a 42G at the moment. I want to hear from women who didn't have perky boobies. When you lost your weight from your boobs, did the skin/breast get smaller? Like draw up? Or did it just stay whereever they were and look more and more deflated? I hope I'm wording this right. For example, when I was 90 lbs smaller they were a 38DDD. It appeared that they got smaller, like there was less meat in each booby, but it didn't look deflated. So it would seem as if the skin retracted as well. I can't say it will do that at 150 lbs, but I want to have an idea. I know I'm going to want a lift regardless, but just curious as…

My goal is to be between 120-150 lbs. I am 5'6, 282 now (about 12 pounds less since I started researching WLS.) I was lighter a few years ago, and a work out junky, and started to plateau around 198. I am sure it will be different afterwards, and I am sure it varies per person, but at what weight did the weight stop coming off fast? For me I'd guess around 160.

For those of you who have lost a bunch of weight post VSG, what you do tell people that ask you how you did it? I have told some people, but I'm not sure I want everyone knowing I had surgery. However, weight loss after VSG is typically faster than when you just diet. So, what do you say to the random person who asks you how you lost so much weight?

Sucks how good food is so expensive, especially as a vegeterian. As a mom on a budget it can be really hard to get the things you need, but I can say this, when I get the sleeve, I'm not only going to be excited because of the weight loss, but with smaller meals, it means a smaller bill for me at the organic store. Woohoo! That is all.
