I got me surgery september 19th 2011, it was all a nightmare that turned out to be a dream, just as I knew it would. _________________background________ I was scheduled to have surgery with doctor Almanza. I sent over all the necessary paperwork on my bleeding disorder, they said everything was just fine, I paid the deposit and I was on my way.. when I got there I was told that they would need an extra $3,000 for blood just in case, it was great to know that they wanted to be prepared, but it wasn't anything I was thinking would happened, I was never given any heads up, and I didn't have the money. the trip was wasted and I lost my deposit and all the money it took t…

After my doctor appointment the other day where I chose my date, I met with a rep from Bariatric Advantage. It was good because I got to try everything. However, I almost feel like I might be being taken by a salesman. Of course, his products were the best and no others compared nutritional wise. However, I detested his Meal Replacement Protein powder for the preop diet. When I tried to talk about other options like powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury and the likes, he just wasn't having it because they aren't Meal Replacements with all the Vitamins and minerals. After surgery, I could use thos…

Hello all! I had my sleeve on 4/3...and I have lost weight since surgery. But...I have a question for you all. Do you ever doubt yourself? Wonder if it will actually work for you? I know this sounds completely mentally, but I find myself afraid that it won't "work"..just like everything else I have tried worked then failed. And the worse part is it is working! Did anyone feel like this...or is it just me?..Thanks for you input!

I am very bored today, I guess I should be happy that I had no obligations or tasks to handle today but now mid afternoon I am bored to tears. I am fighting myself with eating big time today. I know I am not physically hungry and that got me to thinking. I don't remember the last time that I actually ate because I was physically hungry. True hunger. I read a lot in forums how people talk about forgetting to eat and never being hungry anymore and I think, jeez I am never hungry but sure eat a lot ! Same goes for eating until you are full. It takes a lot for me to feel fullness. Long story short, what have you learned to do to conquer the mindless eating or no…

I had my sleeve done on April 19th, it was one of the best things i have done for myself in a really long time. I am feeling good, more energy as everyday passes. The only thing i am having an issue with is getting enough water down. and if anyone is on a simi-liquid diet, i would strongly recommend babyfood, some of it is really nasty, but there is somethat is pretty good, and it has protien in it as well. that is what i have been eatting for the past two days. and taking my time, i can deffinitly feel when i have swallowed somthing to big or two fast. I hope this helps as this is one of the things i was worried about before i got my sleeve done.

Well I have been a member of this group for a while but hadn't posted so here goes - I am in my final stretch and the weight is just barely coming off, less than a lb a week. I still get only about 800-900 calories a day and almost dread adding much exercise...trying though. What is everyone doing to bump up your calories? Or should I just try and stick with walking until I can get more calories?

Hey I'm Jennifer. I'm a 30 year old that is getting sleeved next week. I live just outside of Baton Rouge. I actually went through the process to get RNY done 8 years ago and before I could have it done my insurance changed and really messed me up. I just gave up the idea of surgery completely. 8 years and 2 more kids later my grandmother offered to pay for me to have weight loss surgery. This was last month. We went to a consultation with Dr Bellanger in Baton Rouge last week. I will be sleeve April 19th. I'm scared to death but I am assuming that is normal. So that is my story and hopefully I can get to know a few of you because I don't have a big suppor…

UGH.......... So I am back. The lowest I got down to was 138 lbs. I was really happy at that weight. Then I started to gain, slowly. I was stressed over things in my life and was grazing and eating things I should NEVER eat, like Pop Tarts, cookies, etc. Guess what? I gained a ton back. I am going to start the 5 day pouch test tomorrow. Hopefully that will get me on track again. I miss my tiny stomach.

Whew ....*wipes sweat off my forehead* After a long month filled with so many doctor appointments, I am done!!! I see my surgeon on Thursday and hopefully we can submit everything to insurance. BUT...there's always a but....I was forced to take a sleep apnea test last week and it can take up to two weeks for the results. Now my bmi is over 40 so I dont necessarily need the results to get a surgery date/submit it to insurance do I?? I'm so anxious but I guess I in comparison to some people's journey, I am getting things done pretty quickly. My 25th birthday is in July so I was hoping to have it done by then bc I would hate to b on my liquid op diet or in the hosp the w…

I'm revising from the band to the sleeve because of esophageal motility issues. I have very mixed feelings about it because I love my band, but I can't risk permanent damage to my esophagus. I'm curious to hear how other ex-bandsters compare the benefits of the band versus the sleeve. I don't need to hear all the bad things your band did because I assume you wouldn't have revised otherwise. I just want to hear the things you like(d) best about the band vs. the sleeve. For example, for the last 2-3 years with my band, I experienced very little physical hunger. In addition, my appetite was suppressed - I didn't think much about food, could pretty much take it or leave i…

I've been sleeved since 3/28/12 and I'm currently eating 1/3 - 1/2 cup size meals. At the end of a meal I am full, but it is an uncomfortable feeling of fullness and not the satisfying feeling of contentment I used to feel after a meal. I am not overeating and the discomfort I am experiencing is not really pain, it is just an achy feeling of fullness and not the same pleasant feeling as before. Am I making sense????? I know my capacity is going to increase eventually to about 1 - 1 1/2 cups which is fine with me. A 1 1/2 cup meal would be like gorging at an all-you-can-eat buffet, now! My question is will that old, satisfied feeling of contentment after enjoying a …

I was sleeved on March 27th and to date I'm not convinced that this surgery was worth the money or trouble.. I can't eat anything and what I do eat I don't enjoy. Worst of all I haven't lost any significant amount of weight.. I know I had a low BMi to start with but hell I could have lost the few pounds I've lost without all the trouble .. Starting weight 217 Pre-op 204 To date 199 As you can see the pounds lost were do from the pre- op diet. I'm not expecting to wake up in the morning and be skinny but I was expecting something different .. Ugh

I had my surgery eight day s ago and a couple of days ago I noticed myself going from one extreem to the next emotionaly. I have no history of this before the surgery. I was wondering if anyone else expierenced changes in emotions after surgery and if it's something that "works itself out" or something I need to worry about. I do not feel depressed. I am not craving food. I have no regrets about doing this..... I am sick of liquids and pureed food but not to the point of depression. I feel so sorry for my husband. I think if I don't get myself emotionaly stable, he may leave me LOL. The poor man seems to get the majority of my "moods". Is this normal? How did ot…

So I had been waiting and waiting for my dad to maybe help me out a few months ago with financing my surgery .. i would write him and he would think about it or not write back at all. Giving me some false hope that he might be able to help me out. So finally last month i just took the reins and decided to see if i could do it myself and went and applied at a couple of banks.. low and behold i got approved and am now set for surgery on May third. Sooo anyhow I had emailed my father back to let him know to never mind i didn't need his help and that i was going to have surgery.. he never replied. He hadn't replied when i had asked him for help the last time either... …

I had my sleeve done in November and have only lost 11lbs. I have spoken with the nutritionist and my diet is good. I do exercise, but could do more, I as so very disappointed with my small loss I could cry (I do cry) The only thing left to question is that I take Antipsychotics for bipolar disorder. They are known for weight gain. I am on one that has a weight neutral profile, but the surgeon thinks this is why I havent lost. My family psychiatrist doesnt agree. The surgeon has suggested taking Metformin to see if that might help. I am considering the idea, but not sure if it will actually do anything,. My fasting blood sugar is 95 so I am not even prediabetic. Ha…

The original article can be found HERE A mouthful of chocolate candy, a sliver of cake, a chunk of cheese...give into those insistent urges, and before you know it, you've eaten everything but the kitchen sink. Even worse, those little urges can also add up to a large weight gain. For example, if you take in just 100 extra calories per day -- that's one ounce of rich cheese or a fistful of potato chips -- you can put on ten pounds in one year. So, when the urge to eat strikes, stop and ask yourself if you're really hungry. If not, then you're merely eating out of habit, and the urge will usually pass if you can wait it out. Overcoming the eating urge can be compar…

Hello, I'm almost 3 weeks post op and my resting heart rate (pulse) has been much higher Than before my surgery. Before surgery pulse was always about 80 now it seems to always be between 95-105 and thats at rest. I have been drinking plenty of water so I don't think it is dehydration. I brought this up with my surgeon but he kinda brushed it off told me not to worry . Has anyone ever have this happen? and if yes did your heart rate eventually stabilize?

I can even still fit into my original clothes! I don't remember it being like this on the way up. I remember all my clothes getting tighter as I went up from size to size. I see threads where people have lost 50 pounds or less and have shrunk up to 5 clothing sizes. Not me, I feel like I am destined to be fat regardless of how much weight I actually lose. This is so depressing.

I need some advice and to vent a little. I am scheduled with Dr. Aceves for sleeve revision on May 10th. I have researched the hell out of him and have found nothing bad at all. Part of the prerequisite was for me to get my band unfilled. This past weekend I had my appointment with my American bariatric surgeon (who did not place my lap-band) and he unfilled me. He asked why I was getting unfilled and I told him I was having revision in Mexico with Dr. Aceves. He then proceeded to scare the **** out of me by telling me stories of patients he has known of who have had leaks months afterward from getting surgery in Mexico and/or dying on the OR table. He said getting…

Hi crew. I hope I am posting in the right place. I have been lurking the boards and just joined tonight. I have researched WLS off and on for a few years after my friend decided to have a procedure, I wasn't commpletely against surgery, but I was doing the same trip some others that I have read. I would tell myself that surgery was taking the easy way out, that I could make this happen on my own, or if it was meant to be it will happen. etc and so on. Well two years have passed, I have become treadmill fit, but no weight lost. So a few months ago I started researching once more. My way of thinking was changing. I no longer thought surgery was an easy way out, I was loo…

I had gastric sleeve on October 18, 2011. My highest weight had been 295, but had settled in at about 270. Lost some in my pre-op program just because I knew I was going to be weighed and monitored every month. Anyway at surgery, I weighed 236. Hearing about all the phenomenal losses after surgery, I had planned to hit 199 by Christmas, New Years, at the latest. I was not remembering that I had already dropped an initial 30 plus pounds. Anyway, I was very compliant, but was not even close to my 199 by the holidays! I didn't set a new time for reaching Onederland, but just kept plugging. Since December, I did start a great exercise program of five days a week at th…

Ok... so I don't know if this is a dumb question but I am just wondering something about calories. I'm having a hard time trying to find the words to explain this so sorry for the lengthy post I have tried various diets throughout the years, but the one I had the most success with was Weight Watchers (which I think is a great program -- but somehow I always managed to fall off track and gain it all right back) For some that may not know you get a designated amount of points that you are allowed to have per day. Well, as you lose weight your number is decreased. So with that said I can get to my question! I guess through the years I have always associated losing w…

Man I've been reading too much of this forum! I asked a co-worker if he would take the band out for me if I supplied the letter opener lol. I've always had trouble with throwing up, sliming, generally miserable and I'm ready for the sleeve. I've started the process but now that I've decided to do it the red tape is so maddening!!! I see a nutritionist Thursday...why, no idea!!!....then see the surgeon on the 24th...and then they'll start with insurance. And most likely I'll have to have an EGD but they won't schedule it yet. Looking at surgery at mid to late may if all goes well. I'm literally having nightmares of all the damage this thing has done or is doing betwe…
