Eat. I don't know what my problem is. I do get hungry, but everything I try for the last few days makes me feel like s#!%. I'm not sure how to remedy this, but I'm not losing at all -not an ounce all week & only 1# last week- and I feel like I'm stumped! Yesterday I tried a taco w/o the shell & threw up. Tried a salad w/ cheese & almonds, thinking maybe the meat was bothering me, but the salad made me super naseaus so I went to bed. The other day I had my absolute favorite salad w/ chicken & felt so-so, but when I tried to eat the rest for dinner I felt like I was going to throw up. Ditto the next day w/ seared tuna. I feel fine unless I'm trying to eat. I…

  9. I find this particularly interesting because sleeve surgery can produce some disruption to the vagus nerve. Feels like there's a connection here... http://www.scienceda...20509123854.htm Hot Sauce Ingredient Reduces 'Beer Belly' Fat as a Weight-Loss Surgery Alternative Ali Tavakkoli, MD, BWH Department of Surgery, and his team have published a study investigating whether two surgeries called vagal de-afferentation-which uses capsaicin, the component responsible for the chili pepper's burning sensation-and vagatomy can achieve weight loss and reduce the risk of obesity-related diseases with fewer side effects when compared to today's bariatric surgical option…

  12. Hi All-- I was sleeved in Buffalo, NY with Dr. Posner on April 3rd. Surgery went very smoothly and I was home the following evening (the 4th). Had some pain from the 'pumped in gas' from surgery (shoulders and chest) but that subsided more and more the past couple days. They found I had a hiatal hernia and fixed that at the same time as surgery (got a two-fer..lol). Today I'm kind of wiped out as I had my first post-surgical visit and my drain removed...glad it's out but wow, that was intense for me. Many people have told me it was not a problem for them at all but it was almost passing-out kind of pain for me. I'd recommend taking a lortab before if you're havi…

Hello everyone! Well, one week post op and yesterday I got an unpleasant suprise. After being able to tolerate full liquids quite well (although not getting in nearly the amount of protein you are supposed to of course), I had a few spoonfuls of cream of wheat and then a little while later I started sipping a protein drink and all of a sudden I felt this awful flushed feeling like I was going to get sick. I didn't get sick and the feeling passed rather quickly but when I tried another sip sometime later the same thing happened. Since it was Sunday I got the doctor on call who told me to go back to clear liquids. I cried like a baby all day which only resulted in a horendo…

  16. Warning: This may be TMI Ever since I had surgery, I have had diarrhea . However, this last week has taken a turn for the worst. It has evolved from painless to extremely painful! Often, it will sneak up on me in the form of gut-ripping pain, where I can feel my intestines churning and bubbling. And this goes in intervals throughout the entire day, making it very difficult to carry on with life. It makes me paranoid to go for a walk...because what if I start getting those warning pains while I am away from home, with no bathroom in sight? I usually only get a few minutes to find a restroom once the cramping starts. I am friends with a Registered Dietitian w…

It feels so crazy to be excited over something like this, but I AM! Lisa

Hi everyone, I have been reading on this website and thought I was really prepared for this surgery. WOW what a rough week it has been. I ended up having to stay in the hospital for 4 days due to the fact I could not hold down any fluids. They finally got the vomiting under control and I was able to come home on Sunday. I have not had to take any pain meds since I have been home even though I had a hernia repair, my lapband removed and my sleeve done all at the same time. I am just struggling with all my might to hold down the fluids. I am not throwing up. It just hurts like hell to put them in my tummy : ( It seems like my sleeve keeps going into spasms? That…

I had to buy a sport coat, shirt, and new tie today. I already got a great deal on awesome pants at Goodwill and went to match them at Elder-Beermans. I wanted to put off expensive clothes buying until my goal was reached but circumstances dictated otherwise. I purposely bought the pants a bit small and decided to do the same at Elder-Beermans. I found a great coat, shirt and tie there. Not too tight but just tight enough to give me some more time with them before they outgrow me. I must say I am looking good. It has been a long time since I had trouble resisting vanity. Glad to have a reason to battle again.

My standard answer is "a lot", and I stick to it. Today marks the 2nd time I've been asked again and even a 3rd time, "how much?" This last person was a Senior Director at work in another dpt during a conversation. She is a nice lady and I know she was happy for me, but I just came back without flinching, say, "a lot and that's all I'm going to say". I only tell the closest of my friends the actual #, as it really isn't anyone else's business if I choose not to say. The 1st lady said, "I want to know so I can…

I'm not sure if my age plays a big roll in it, but my mom is so scared that I'm going to hurt myself but I keep assuring her I have no pains. She keeps reinforcing the fact that I just had major surgery to get me to relax and heal, but I feel what's best for me is to keep moving and that way I will heel faster. Part of me is extra afraid because i was confident when i got y band that i woudnt be part of that small percentage who has problems and i was! If so, did you have any trouble early postop with them? 3.) What vitamims/ supplements can you not take together besides the multi with iron? 4.) what acid reducer do you take? Is it a pill or a chewable or liquid? 5.) I am making a list and starting to buy things I wiill need. I put a funnel on my list, but have no idea why. Do you have one and if so, what do you use it for? 6.). I will be in the hospital up to two days. I live alone but can stay with my parents afterward. Do you th…

Hi sleevers! I'm 43 years old and after more than 25 years being obese I finally found a doctor willing to refer me for bariatric surgery back in January 2011. Now after almost 16 months on the NHS conveyor belt (National Health Service) I am 10 days away from surgery -- woop woop !!! Was originally referred for RNY bypass but after months and months of research I decided against it and to go for the sleeve instead. I already have: Type 2 diabetes, high BP, osteo-arthritis (knees and hips), mild sleep apnoea, chronic rhinitis, asthma .... and a para-umbilical stomach hernia (!!) With that bundle of co-morbidities I would normally be a prime candidate for the RN…

I've lost 52 pounds and have dropped 4 pant sizes, 2 bra/top sizes. My family can see my weight loss through the webcam, and I absolutely know it's noticeable. I have the measurements from every two weeks that show I've lost over 10 inches in my waist alone, 8 in my hips. So why aren't more people saying something when they see me? I've run into over a dozen people who knew me at my heaviest, they talk to me for 15 minutes or more and don't say a word. I've literally had ONE friend say something to me and he whispered it in my ear, "Am I crazy or have you lost a substantial amount of weight?" To which he high-fived me, but it was odd he didn't want to say it out loud. Yes…

I had my surgery may 3rd at like 4 in the afternoon. Since then, I have been so proud of everything I accomplished these past few days. My doctor did like 6 surgeries that day and I was the last one. But out of those people I was first to leave. I was up every hour walking two laps around the top floor. I wanted to get rid of that gas pain so bad that I did as much walking as I could. I just feel so accomplished and I feel like tooting my own horn. Not passing gas wise this time.
