I just joined this group. I have just started the process for revision from a lapband.. The band slipped and I have only lost 60 lbs. since 5/09. I saw a new surgeon last week and wanted a bypass, but he thinks the sleeve will work for me. I am glad since it is less surgery. I have been getting alot of good info on these message boards. Seems like most people are having good luck with the sleeve so I am looking forward to getting it. I know it will be a while. It seems to take forever to go thru the process, but it will be worth it.

I don't know if i regret this because now my boss is always asking how i'm doing (wish I don't mind) but I notice that the other employees now tend to look over when I'm eating as if to see if I'm following the diet It's so uncomfortable. They still don't know I'm having surgery I have just started this journey my secont weight in is in May I truly don't know how I'm going to handle the wait and the constant people looking over me to see if I'm sticking to the …

  7. Hi All, So I wanted to make an "ALL CALL" for us 20 somthing sleevers. I don't have any scientific proof BUT I think the recovery, weightloss, and other issues may have something to do with age. I am 25 and getting sleeved on Jan. 22. I am the mother of a goregous 7 month old and a wife for the past 2 years. I just wanted to make this forum active again. With that said? What's your story? How was recovery? How's Life?!

About once a week sometimes longer I have an episode of vomiting, cramps and diarrhea. I thought it was the celebrex so I stopped that. Then I thought it was the advil so I stopped that. I thought it was the tuna sandwich so ........ I do have a chocolate kiss or two and I have had it after that but it has no rhyme or reason. I'm 4 months out from band removal and sleeve conversion. Any ideas?

I missed out on life by hiding through my 20's. I'm 30 now and ready to "live" my 30's and enjoy my husband and toddler daughter. I started at 258 before pre-op, now down to 244, 84 more pounds to go! Any advice of what to take to the hospital? Anybody else getting sleeved on Friday 4/20? Ahh! I can't believe this is really happening!!

Hello everyone I am new to this forum. I just got my surgery date today 5/15/12 and it has hit me that this is really happening! I am so nervous!!!!! I have never had a surgery before so needless to say anesthesia is frightening to me. Also scared of pain, even though I have a pretty high pain tolerance.. Looking for some people to tell me how they are doing from recent VSG surgery. Thanks for all your help. Lindsay

  12. HI ALL, I live in the Orlando area and want to hear from other VSGers. Would like to find a walking budding for post op (8/24/11). My surgery is with Dr. Marema in St. Augustine. He is super nice and the hospital is in a lovely area of historic Florida. Welcome all greetings, advice, comments, whatever!

My date is next Monday, 4/23, moved up from the 30th. I'd love to hear from someone who's a year out, what went well, what hasn't, what you would change if you could go back (other than not gain the weight in the first place, LOL). I'm so impressed with the stories everyone has and hope I have as much courage and dedication to it as you all seem to. Wish me luck!!!

This might seem a bit off topic and I’m not really sure what forum this belongs in. It is a serious topic for sure and would almost border on being political. I wonder how everyone else feels about this subject. We have all kinds of protected classes within our society, such as gender, race, sexual orientation, disability, etc. Do you think obesity should be the next protected class? I’m sure we have all felt as though we were treated differently due to our weight. This might include not getting a job or promotion. Perhaps you’ve been given the cold shoulder by sales people when they’ve chosen to wait on someone else. How about a dirty look when you sit next to so…

I was sleeved 2-15-2012, just over 2 months ago. I have had some ups and downs. Overall though I am doing great. Much better than I was expecting to be doing at this point. I started at 320lbs and now weigh 272.. As of today I have lost 48 lbs since before my pre op diet and 40 inches!!! My blood pressure is normal now when it was super high before. I move around so much easier and I find that I can stand and go for hours when before I had to stop and rest all the time. I think the hardest thing for me is over coming the mental part. I still can't believe such a small amount of food can feel me up. It feels great that food does not control my life anymore. I would eat…

Hi, I have a lapband (May 2005), lost about 35 lbs, gained 25 back and I have a lot of discomfort with the band. I was really down on myself for not losing weight with weight loss surgery and though shoot, I'm just so far gone even surgery can't help me. So about 2 months ago I was having a lot of pain and thought maybe my band slipped and I called the doc - he confirmed it's not slipped but it clearly isn't working for me (normal reasons - lack of weight loss, throwing up daily, pain, now I'm getting heartburn). I hadn't even heard of the vertical sleeve before my meeting with him and got excited because I'm reading so many positive band to sleeve experiences. I'm SO NER…

Okay so i have a question for all you veteran sleevers. I used to love chugging back a cold glass of water and i have been having a hard time with gettin my liquids in because i couldnt drink no more than a few sips at a time. the last few days i noticed that i can actually almost continuously drink and not hurt afterwards. AN ALMOST CHUG. lol i could keep going but of course i get a brain freeze right away . im wondering if i ruined my sleeve or if eventually it just gets easier to drink like that again? weird thing to miss. i know ! after being sleeved but thats the one thing i did love was chuggin cold water or iced tea!

I'm feeling pretty good after my band removal yesterday afternoon at 4pm. My doc told my hubby that the scarring/stomach was "not bad at all." So I'm hoping that moving forward with the sleeve should be seamless! I'm very worried about the higher leak rate with the conversion, but feel pretty good since the scar tissue wasn't bad. Also--my doc is sending my band away for pathology. I had been getting fevers (every six months or so...lasting for about 2 days at about 103) over the last 2 years. No explanation. The hospital referred me to a rheumatologist to check for auto immune diseases since unexplained fevers are an indicator. The rheumatologist couldn't find …

Hey everyone : ) I went to see my surgeon today for my final visit before my surgery on May3. He had told me once before that if he gets in there and there is a lot of scar tissue around my band that he may have to take out the band and wait several months for my stomach to heal before moving on to the sleeve. He said he did not run into that situation very often but it does happen. He said he was not going to put my health at risk if he felt that it would be better on me to wait. I just love my surgeon. I have had my realize band for almost 4 years. Has anyone else run into this problem where they had to wait due to scar tissue? I would rather for him to wait if i…

It seems most to all Band surgeons have their patients do the low-carb diet. After reading a bunch of posts here most people say they eat whatever they want, just in little quantities. What did everyone's surgeon tell them? I don't see mine til next week so I"m just curious if it's any different or if eating the 'little bit of anything' is for those that are maintaining.

  27. I have had my band for about 6-7 yrs now. I initally did really well, model patient lost 125 pounds in 10 months. I went from 250 to 125 pounds . I was loving life etc ! The day I hit my goal weight i discovered I slipped my band. It was a pretty bad slip , had my band not moved back into place on its own I woudl have had to have surgery with in a couple hours .. Luckily It did . I waited a few weeks came back for another fill, in that time I had gained a little bit of weight. I did ok for about a year then started to have problems again , went back in found out my band had slipped again . By this time i did not have the money to go back for a fill , so i waited nearly…

Right now, for me, I am regretting the surgery. Since I was sleeved I've been suffering from serious energy issues and am having a hard time with memory and concentration. At first my doctor thought it was due to the low amount of calories I was taking in during the clear liquid phase. However, I have progressed through the full liquid and into the soft stage without much improvement. I've made sure that I'm getting in enough Proteins and Water and upped the amount of carbs I'm consuming to help bring some of that energy back. Also, I'm taking my Multivitamins and Calcium twice a day and Iron and B12 once a day. However, what improvement I've seen has been minimal. …

  36. The first Success Habit Principle TM identified in the Success Habits of Weight-Loss Surgery Patients by Colleen Cook is: PERSONAL ACCOUNTABILITY. I recognize that I alone am responsible for my success and failures. This is the most important factor contributing to optimum weight loss and long-term weight control. If each of us was asked the question, “Who is responsible for your success?”, each of us would probably answer “I am”. The religious among us would also likely give credit to God’s help in achieving success. The study that was done on the Success Habits identified that the most successful people at maintaining their WLS weight loss long term had a very str…

Ok, so here are my stats.... right now I am 218 and 5'2 and a half (yes I count my half) and I am wondering what a realistic goal should be. I can tell myself that I want to be 120-130lbs all day long, but honestly, I am not sure that it is possible. I come from a "big boned" family (on my mother's side) and I have had seven children. Can I make that happen? Or should I shoot for something like 150? Even if I get to 150 I would love that too. At 150, nothing hurt...my knees were good and so were my feet and back... What do you think??? Kisha

On the subject of getting used to a thinner "you"...this is much harder than I realized. I am lingering in this quasi-friend haze of aquaintances - people I no longer have any real thing in common or never liked really well anyway (not a slight on them and OMG some of them are so funny and sweet) but I linger, I think in part because I want to have people who knew me then, and liked me then...I think I find myself almost angry at new aquaintances. I feel like "why didn't you get to know me a year ago!". Is anyone else experiencing this? What is your take on it, if you are?

I don’t lose every day – in fact I often go up a pound or two and stall out for a few days and then lose for the next few. Here is a roundup of my NSVs since I started losing weight pre-surgery last June: Now wear large t-shirts and polos down from 3-4x before 2x dress shirt as opposed to 5x before Pants size 46 down from a tight 62 before Walking has become very easy and I’m not intimidated by distance any longer One night I jogged to my car (parked in the far end of the lot) in the rain I’m doing deep Water…
