I was not always overweight, in fact, I was the skinniest of all my friends up until I was 28--then I started gaining every year (I had my one and only child when I was 21). I did have a brief weight loss at age 29 for several months, then continued to gain from thirty on. I do not know what changed for me at around 28, but I did have a lot of stress from 21-30. The weird thing is I have noticed that when I have been truly happy in life and often "not" in a serious committed relationship with a man I tend to get thinner (falling in love-thinner, staying in love-fatter!). I have always been a bit aware of that too and equated depression, hormonal changes caused by stress resulted in weight gain for me...long before it was commonly mentioned in the media. My marriage of 10 years hit a rough patch about 5 years ago and we separated for a year and again I was able to see gradual weight loss within that year--I looked and felt better than I had for several years. Of course, when we got back together the weight came back too!

I believe I have a better grasp of my emotions--I have accepted so much more in life and realize that so many things are out of my control and that has been a great relief. However, along the way I have lost some discipline and some bad emotional eating habits and I hope that the jump start of the sleeve will be a great tool for me to re-learn to take better care of myself!
