Did You Buy Goal Clothes, If So What Did You Buy, And When Did You Buy?

Recommended Posts

I have many mini goals after surgery. I'm still losing pre-op, and I'd like to lose twenty by surgery, so, what I want to know is did you by goal clothes? My biggest goal would be to be a size 2/4, but happy with a 6. However I won't buy those anytime soon, so I figure if I'm going to by something it has to be something I really like, and it would be something I don't think I could get in the future. I can think of many times I passed on something and never saw it come out again. So.. I was thinking about getting one or two pieces of clothing in a large. I think jeans can be bought anytime so I will hold off on those. I figure if I get a large it's not too small or too large, just in case the last twenty takes me forever to get to.

This is tough... I have not purchased any "goal clothes" because I've had to get things throughout my weight loss process! Initially I had things in several sizes (from all yo yoing!) But eventually, I needed things as I lost weight. I am still losing slow and steady so I hesitate to get too much more than the absolute necesary. For example, I had to buy a jacket!!! It's now getting too big but I'm pretty sure I will not be able to use it next year. So I an stretching its use and hoping to wear it through this season - even if a little baggy. When I got it very early fall, my husband encouraged me to get it size large (vs. XL which fit better). The Large was quite snug! He was right!!! Since it fit better rather quickly and now, like I said it's huge!!!

One of the issues for me is that my body is changing in ways unfamiliar to me, and because I have been fat for a good decade and a half, I don't even know what looks good on my new body! I'm older now too -- since I was at this weight -- and for a long time I got things "because they fit" or "they had one in my size." Looking/feeling good in the clothes was secondary! So for me, I can't really imagine getting anything for my goal weight till I get there. Also it gives me time to "re-discover" my body and style. Having said that, it could be cool to have one or two pieces of something to work towards and help keep up the motivation. It's fun to see things that you could not even think about getting into to finally begining to fit eventually squeezing into them! I have an old leather skirt (ancient) that I've been doing that with! LOL Before I think I was lucky if it fit ONE thigh! Now I can get into it, albeit really, really tight!!! But it feels sooooo good!

Best of luck with your journey! For me it has been so wonderful and I feel very, very, happy!!!!

Don't buy goal clothes, you might not make it to that size, get past it, or just plain see changes in your body shape that may preclude these clothes from fitting properly. It's a big risk to take, and, as such, a waste of money.

Well for me, my major goal is a 2/small shirt, but I wouldnt buy size 2's until I was near a size 2 . However I do intend on buying something as motivation that is right in between. I know Im going to fit into a large shirt one day, so I don't see anything wrong with spending $10 on a t shirt.

I bought some GenieBra's online. Yes, I know, infomercials are evil and they all lie but gosh, they look so comfortable! So these are a size smaller than I can wear now (the size range is ridiculous - 42AA to 48DDD) but I just had to try one on when they arrived in the mail. hahahahahaha I almost had to call my husband to help me out of it but by golly, I got it on ! So, in maybe another month I'll be able to wear them (and if the size range is correct, for a quite a long while).

I bought a goal little black dress right after I had my surgery. It was a size 8 (I started as a size 26 and even as a fifth grader I was a 14), so it seemed like the biggest dream goal ever. I wore it for Valentines day, almost a year after my surgery. It may be the only time I ever wear it since I really don't have a lot of places to wear that type of dress, and I'm still losing, so I'm not sure it will be my final size. But for me, the cost ($40) was worth it for that moment of putting it on and seeing it finally fit. I don't think there is anything wrong with buying a goal outfit... just don't go crazy and buy a goal wardrobe. lol.

I have bought few things to wear in 1x and 2x as I've seen really cute stuff on sale (currently in 3x tops and 25Long pants) Only purchased 1 goal outfit in a size 10. I don't know that I'll get that small since I'm tall for a girl as everyone likes to tell me lol.

I am just excited that I'll be able to size down instead if up! I figure the 1x and 2x were good deals - even if I were to skip a size (don't see that happening) I would just donate the clothes for someone else to wear / it's hard to find cute plus size clothes in thrift stores.

I have bought a number of diffferent goal pieces, each at different sizes.

Each size I go down is a goal, so I have something to work into.

The first one was a little black dress, which now fits and is a bit loose. The next is a cream suede jacket (which I saw in the store and could not leave without it). They are my motivation to keep going.

I had a goal size, which in some pants I am actually already in, my top half is way bigger than my bottoms, so have no idea what my end size will be.

So now I Celebrate the removal of a specific size from my wardrobe and work to the next goal item.

You aren't that tall. My mom is near that height. I have clothes for up until a size 1x top. I have big boobies so even when I was eighty pounds smaller I still wore a 1x shirt. I was able to get into a xl top from Old Navy, but thats it.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
