I'm one week out from having my VSG, dr told me to sleep at a 45 degree for 4-6 weeks? Was that the case for anyone else? I'm glad I already had an adjustable bed but it still does not make it easy to sleep! Any thoughts?

This morning, I got to the 5:30am (UGH!) Body Pump class at the gym a bit later than normal. The only remaining open spot was in the very front of the class, about two feet away from the instructor, so I had a good view of myself in the massive mirror throughout the workout. I realized then that I haven't spent any time gazing at my reflection this year, and I couldn't believe how amazing I look. [if I do say so myself... ] I seriously can hardly recognize my own body when it's staring back at me. Even more amazing... about 20 minutes into the class, the woman next to me leaned over and said "...Amy!? Is that really you?!" It was the nutritionist who got me throug…

I'm so bummed. I gained 2 lbs this past week. It was my 3rd week post op and now I'm on soft foods. I hope this is typical. I hope this is just a "body adjustment" thing. I had lost 33 lbs but now it's only 31. Now I'm afraid to eat anything. Such a let down.

Not totally weight loss related (well, maybe a little). So, on my first day back to work after my sleeve (Aug 2013), my car was totaled in an accident. I had a short moment of panic when the airbag hit my newly healed tummy, but I was fine & so was the other driver. Phew. And today, I finally bought a new car-- a car I would've NEVER been comfortable in when I was larger. I think I'm in love... Plus I look totally cute next to it. lol

Today I reached my surgeon's goal (Wahoo!!!), but my doctor didn't want me to get to that, he was happy with me at 160. I feel great, but I feel that I still have more to lose. Silly question, when do you know you are done losing weight? When the doctor says? Surgeon says? When I feel that I am a healthy weight?

Happened to click on the 'YEAR' view on the Health app dashboard on my iPhone. Was amazed to see improvement in walking steps taken over time since my GSV on 4-16-2015. You can clearly see the vast improvement and trend in my ability to walk. What is really awesome is that I have two bad knees, scheduled for replacement before end of year. So, its a miracle that I have improved my walking and steps taken each day this much. A huge NSV indeed -RC-

Had my gastric sleeve surgery on May 11th, 2015 and I couldn't be happier with my progress! Since January, I have lost a total of 100 lbs. I still am having trouble grasping that I lost so much weight in so little time, but I am absolutely ecstatic! I never thought this day would come. I feel great, clothes fit me better, I'm feeling more confident and I finally feel like I'm working towards the body I've always wanted but never thought I'd have. Not only that, doing every day things is so much easier. I fit into seats better, seat belts fit me, I don't have to squeeze through people when I'm at a party, stairs are much easier, just walking from point a to point b is so…

I am just over 4 years with my Band and have lost close to 100 lbs and maintained my weight. I am so happy I got my band.. Best thing ever for overeaters. I was a two large portion eater and that is not something I do any longer. I am not dreaming about what to eat. I make lots of different foods mainly for the family but eat the same as them just in smaller portions. I am still trying to remember to eat tiny bites. I just had my 66th birthday yesterday and after eating a certain way for all those years it is hard to remember not to take that big bite at the beginning but of course if I do then I have problems so I am better at it now. I still overfill my plate - my eyes…

Hi. I'm going to be doing the Five Day Pouch Test tomorrow, 9/18. Can someone refresh me on how to start and maintain it for five days? I use 42 gm Protein a tube, New whey protein shots. 3.5 oz. Hard to use that as a drink, any other suggestions? I do have some vanilla Protein powder (that tastes awful). I know Soup broth is good, but I don't think it's very nutritional. V-8 juice. Skim milk. Can someone give me some ideas? Advice? Support? Lovin?

Does anyone have a Fitbit? I was considering buying myself a pre-surgery present as I start on my journey towards becoming healthy, strong and fit. I was wondering if anyone had one and what they thought of it. I do gentle yoga and walk, but I'm going to increase my walking and join a gym. I'd love to hear input on the Fitbit, because I think it could be a really great tool to track activity, calories, food, etc. (I think the app does all that, anyway!) Thoughts?

I have done things I wouldn't have ever dreamed of in this past year. I am physically active, have stopped abusing alcohol, eat much better, and feel amazing. Oddly enough my brain can not catch up with the size of my body. I still see that same big boy. I KNOW how much I have lost, but my brain hasn't fully adapted to my new body. weird weird weird. Five years ago today, July 13, 2010, I had my vertical sleeve gastrectomy at Lenox Hill Hospital in Manhattan. At the time of my surgery, I was just hitting 300 lbs on this scale and this morning I weighed in at 198 lbs. That is up about 25 pounds or so from my all time low of about 173 lbs, but that was probably a little too thin for me. I would like to get back to my original goal weight of 180 lbs and I am working on it. Am I glad I had this surgery? Absolutely, without question. Have there been challenges? Absolutely. Even after five years, I still miss being able to sit down and enjoy a nice, juicy cheeseburger and fries or a club sandwich, but, as I always s…

Hey y'all! I had my 2 year check up with my surgeon (Dr T Borland in New Iberia, LA) and I feel like I'm doing well. Yay! Good weight loss & lots of energy! I currently stand at 24.9% body fat, and I'm daily trying to improve that. Doc seemed pleased with my progress & suggested looking into a tummy tuck. I'd like to get under 20% body fat before my tummy tuck (hopefully some time next year). I'm a little afraid to not get the results I want from the TT, but I know I'd be able to move around more easily after it's done. I'm tired of compression garments. Lol. I was hoping to be able to see muscle definition in my abdominals, but sadly I'm reading many article…

So on Friday I hit 4 months post-op. I have lost 64 lbs so far. I wish it would come off a little faster but I'm so happy to be where I am right now - haven't been below 200 lbs since I don't know when. I didn't take a pic right before surgery but the first one is taken at my highest weight. The split pic is at 2 months post-op and today. I'm really hoping that it's true that slow and steady wins the race!

As I’ve gotten further and further out and maintained at goal weight I really don’t feel like I have a lot of NSV’s anymore, so when something dawns on me as having been one, I’m like…hey, YAY. I’ve always liked clothing but when I was larger I avoided buying any because I knew no matter what I wore it wouldn’t matter. Now though I tend to love shopping entirely too much and every time I go into a store I am as equally delighted that I easily fit into the 0,2,4, xs, and small range as I was the first time I zipped up a 0. I took almost 6 months to fully heal from my last plastics surgery where I ended up with a giant hole in my back that only recently has fully healed…

Invariably he will make is way toward the lower half of my body and curl up right behind my butt in the crick of my legs when I am on my side. Do I hold in the toots? No way. My toots have been so righteous that the cat has jumped. And yet, he comes back for more almost every night. Mama 1, Cat 0.

So I'm 18 months out, been below goal for 10 of them. Haven't really had any new NSVs worth mentioning....maintenance life is pretty boring. But this last weekend I had a huge one. Friends I haven't seen in 3 years came to visit and we went hiking in Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks. Last time they were here I struggled to barely keep up on our short day hikes. They were always waiting for me in the steep parts, I was out of breath and my feet and ankles hurt constantly. I actually had to skip the last day because I was in so much pain I could barely walk across the parking lot. Last weekend was totally different. I led the pack on every hike. I was w…

I was wondering if anyone could tell me if your attitude changes after surgery??? Are your friends still supportive or jealous??? Do they complain that you've changed??? My long time best friend of 20 years, she's like a sister, but she is self absorbed. She's the slim and fit friend and have always been the center of attention when we would go out, meaning that guys were more attracted to her because of obvious reasons in my mind. I'm just worried that our friendship isn't going to be the same??? Please let me know what you think and if you understand what I'm getting at.

This week I walked my dog down to the small public beach along the beautiful St. Croix river. Kids are back in school so it was a very peaceful morning down there. I sat down on a half buried log to enjoy the view. I was watching some fishing boats go by when I realized that I was hugging my knees to my chest. What? I was astounded that I just naturally did that without thinking about it and that it was comfortable. Six months ago I couldn't/wouldn't have done that. Hurrah for that NSV! I was tickled pink as they say.

I went to the gym tonight, with a physical therapist. Covered by insurance and I have reached my high deductible so yeah Ill go till January. Any how it was awesome to get back, it's been 8 weeks and I didn't realize how good it felt. And having a "trainer " is a bonus. So check with your surgeon and see if they have an after care exercise program through physical therapy. It's called M. O. V. E here in Rochester NY. Now my problem is finding time for one more thing.! ????

When I started my journey back in December, my weight was at an all-time high of 259 lbs. I weighed 242.5 pounds on surgery day, June 26. As of this morning's weigh-in, I'm at 207! I'm down 52 pounds overall. I have a hard time seeing the difference when I look in the mirror, but when I saw these pictures of my Grandma and I (6 months ago vs. 1 week ago), it really hit me. I look and feel so much better! Gram's also lost a few pounds herself. I have a long way to go yet, but I couldn't be happier with the results. Thanks to all the great people on this forum for the wisdom, advice, and laughs! You are all the best!
