  1. Hello Everyone!!!! Today is my Big Day !! This time last year I changed my life. I had VSG. If you followed me in the beginning you would know that i had a lot of problems. I was sick for about 4-5 months after having the surgery and I had a lot of regret because people were having more success than me... After a while and some tweeks in vitamins things started to turn around... By my 6 months I had lost 100lbs.. this was revealed on Christmas Day.. Then I met my weight loss goal of 160lbs on Feb 27th.. I have been maintaining since then between 153-160.. Today I weighed in at 152lbs. I am not going to say that my journey has been easy because it hasn't .. It took me a l…

So this week I had a definite NSV. I dug out the courage to go have some boudoir photos taken of myself as a gift for my husband. I still struggle daily with confidence in relation to my body. I still struggle with comprehending what I see in the mirror against what I see as myself in my minds eye, even after maintaining my goal weight for over a year and a half. I still struggle with feeling like an imposter, like a very obese person hiding in a thin body. Every day is a battle ground in my mind it seems. I've been in therapy since 10 months post op, and I don't see that ending any time soon. But.....I am still making progress mentally, emotionally, and with m…

Hello, I am so happy to finally get to write my success story! I started my weight loss journey in 2010. I am 5’3” and weighed 220lbs when I made my decision to begin this process. At the initial visit with surgeon the weight on my card was 199. December of 2010, I had Lap-Band surgery and lost a total of 29 lbs. Due to complications I converted to Gastric By-Pass on November 10, 2014. My starting weight was 170. I met my weight loss goal of 125 in early September 2015. Currently, I am 121 pounds and just over the moon with happiness! I’ve gone from a size 22W to a 2P. I’ve noticed although I’ve only lost an additional 4 pounds the shape of my body has chang…

I'm having gastric sleeve surgery in November and wanted to know if anyone who has had it done suffers from stomach issues as a result? Specifically dumping syndrome or diarrhea? I already have those issues BEFORE surgery and don't need them getting worse after. Thanks for any feedback!

One month out and I'm in Onderland today!! Down 41 pounds since preop diet, 27 pounds since surgery day. I am feeling good. Many NSV's also. I was real skeptical that anything would ever work for me but that is changing. I am feeling good enough to exercise and am really making progress with that also. Thanks to all on this site for ideas, information, encouragement and support.

Hello all - it's finally my turn to post a success story! I didn't post for my first goal, but it was when I hit the 200 pound mark. This past weekend, I obtained another goal by losing 72 pounds and that is weighing 157, which is my lightest weight as an adult. It took me just over four months to obtain this goal and as I look back, every obstacle I have encountered has been worth it! Like others, I struggle to get my fluids in, I struggle to get my Protein in, I struggle with cravings and I have been struggling with dumping. Some say what I deal with is not dumping because it always relates to meat and not sugar, but I consider it dumping. I have found very fe…

Well I have seen so much negativity on the band lately....and it kinda brings me down. so for those of you who are against or on the fence about the lap band, or struggling with your weight loss, I just want to say. The lap band is working for me! 100 lbs down! Yup....crazy. 11 months with the band. Has it been easy? Hell no. Burps, puke, reflux, too tight, not tight enough, stalls, ect.. Was it the "easy road"? Definitely not. Changing the way I eat, the way I exercise, the way i think about food, learning what I can and can't eat so I don't get sick in public or with friends and family. Learning to enjoy meals with the family with band friendly food. And even if…

  18. I am new to this group and starting to do the steps to get qualified for a sleeve. I have some questions for the long term success stories and the tips you have to stay at your maintenance weight once you have reached it. What makes me very nervous is some of the lack of success stories I do read about, such as never reaching goal. Or maybe getting to goal and then gaining 20-30 pounds. I know for myself, that having this surgery is very serious and should be my last resort after trying every diet known to man. I do know that having the sleeve "re-sets" the signals from your brain to your stomach in regards to feeling full and satisfied. Most people post surgery ind…

I'm at the point where I want to have this surgery, and lose the weight and never see my own mother again! She's actually told me before that she doesn't want to see me until I'm thin. It's really bad. I've only gone to see her once this year (Mother's Day ) She keeps trying to give me incentives.. A whole new wardrobe.. If I lose weight.. She's very wealthy and I get an inheritance from my Father who passed away 6 years ago.. But my mother holds all the cards. She has threatened me several times to not give me the money if I don't lose weight. (M…

On top of being called (@ 5:09 am) off today for the weekend, today is my 90 day follow up with my surgeon, I was sleeved on June 10th but had to postpone my 90 day by a month because of my surgeon's schedule, the last time he saw me I was at 315lbs, and said he wanted me at 300lbs by the next visit, well I'm at 280lbs and I'm doing awesome, my injury is fully healed and I was able to curl 90lbs on the circuit arm curl machine, so my New PB of 90 lb arm curl on the free weights is just around the corner........... Here's to a great follow up today!!!!!!!

I'm not saying without hard work, eating healthy and working out-- and i'm not saying immediately... but is it totally unreasonable to hope for it?

Thank god a surgery like this was available to me! I have had had many ups and with this surgery and still am having some, but I wouldn't change it for the world. It was the best decision I could have made for myself. I started at 250 pounds with a slipped disk in my back, terrible foot pain, exhausted all the time, very depressed. I am now 124 pounds with no pain whatsoever and I love being me. This surgery is exactly the tool I need to keep me on track and help me realize my goals. I am a 35 year old single mom of two little ones and so glad I got my life back.

I have Empire Plan/United Healthcare. Anyone else have that insurance and how long did it take to get a denial or approval? I guess I am more nervous because I am on the lower end of the BMI mine is 35.8 but I do have HBP and high cholesterol.

Since having my surgery on October 20, 2011, I have set a "main" goal every year. Year one was obvious, get to the weight that my body wanted to be at. Approximately fourteen months post-op I hit 155 lbs, my weight loss leveled out, I felt great about my weight, about myself, and about what I had accomplished. Year two. I had read so many times about "bounce back weight gain". Usually ten or fifteen pounds but sometimes much more. I researched everything I could find and there appeared to be no physical or metabolic justification for the weight gain. It was/is quite common, but I could find no science to explain it. So my year two goal became to avoid the bounce back. I…

As of this week's weigh-in (Wednesday) I hit one of my major goals of 200 lbs lost since my highest weight. Here are my stats: HW: 491 (2.5 months prior to surgery) SW: 422 CW: 290.5 Total loss: 200.5!! I'm really exited to have hit this milestone. This month (and last month) has been my slowest rate of loss since surgery and it's been very frustrating for me (even though I'm thankfully not in a stall!), so it was good to make this goal this week! I'm still about 135 from my ultimate goal and my surgeon's ultimate goal for me. It's just crazy to think that I ORIGINALLY had about 335 lbs to lose and now I "only" (haha) have 135 to lose! It's been almost 11 months …

Hey all. This past Sunday 9/6/15 was my 5 month surgiversary!! I have lost 90 lbs since starting my journey back in January. I've gone from a size 16/18 2XL to size 8/M. To celebrate my 5 month surgiversary, I ran the Disneyland Half Marathon! I completed 13.1 miles in 3:00:49 and smiled the entire course! It was incredible. I went from someone who once had a full blown meltdown trying to run a half mile exercise to someone who eats miles for Breakfast. I never ever thought I would see this day. So happy to have been granted this second chance at life and I'm glad to report I am using it to the fullest! I'm already registered for another run and contemplating two more.

I could never had imagined then what a wild ride id thrust myself upon and where id be now. I'm not sure if I qualify as a success story yet but I do believe I experienced a life changing event. It took me years to pull the trigger on surgery. I've gained weighed steadily over the last 10 years despite doing what doctors had advised me to do. A myriad of reasons and overall giving up led me to where I was. Oct 7th I weighed in at 248lbs. As a 5'2 woman I was a size 20 comfortably. I realize now how in denial I was over where I had got too. Do you have that one picture that made you cry? I do. I never took any pics until my husband and I celebrated 10 yrs of marriage in Puerto Rico. This before picture was what made me get surgery a month later. The now pic is fr…

In the past, when I went to amusement parks, I typically didn't go on rides out of embarrassment that I felt people were looking at how I barely squeezed into a seat for a ride or even worse, being told I can't ride a particular ride because of my weight or the restraint system won't properly close (that happened twice, I was more embarrassed for my children to have people looking a their Dad like that). Well, not yesterday. I went to the amusement park with my children and went on many rides including ones in the past I would never have been able to fit properly into the seats or weighed too much to ride.
