Ever notice that when things are going great in your life that some is always waiting in the wings to tear you down? Today it wasn't so much about weight loss as just saying they don't even know why I exist ????. That is a hard one to take especially from someone I don't know. I try so hard not to be a mean person and treat people with respect. I am not perfect and make lots of mistakes. But it doesn't mean I am not human and get hurt ????

I am 4 months post op and down 40 plus pounds, 270 to 225 or so. Work out and run/walk hard twice a week since week 3. Looking great as people tell me... All my Clothes are 3x to 4x. Last week l went to store bought a few shirts with wife and my size is now 1xl. Wife says l should be in this size and that my whole wardrobe is waayyyyy to be and I kind of look bad because I am no longer that size. I am so use to big clothes because I could hide my stomach, been doing it for 25 years, I am now 50. I got expensive shirts that I have owned put one on last night wore it to event. Went into bathroom looked in mirror and realized pocket on shirt was down on my l…

Here is my 2 Month Post-Op Progress Report. Things have gradually changed over the last 2 months (since I had surgery on November 20th) and wanted to share my continued progress with those that might be interested. I know that I still have a VERY LONG way to go, but I am seeing progress which helps keep me motivated. Also, a BIG THANK YOU to all of you that have offered caring support and advice along the way as well as the BariatricPal weight loss and exercise challenges. I can't do it alone...so THANK YOU!!! And a special THANKS to my wife (as we are taking this journey together each step of the way). TOTAL Weight Lost (Pre-Op and Post-Op): 54.0 pounds Pre-Op We…

I posted this last year on another board. I will share it here as well. I actually got thinner after this and I now have a 6th child but I stand by the rest of what was said. I wanted to give you guys a REAL look at what weight loss surgery does to you so that if you decide to get it you know all the facts. I would do this surgery again in a heart beat, however it is not all rainbows and unicorns. I have an insane amount of excess skin, 2 hernias and Iron so low I have to be transfused weekly. At my heaviest being weighed I was 368 but I HAD ALREADY BEEN DIETING so I was probably closer to 380. I have had 5 kids and that has a lot to do with my stomach being so b…

I am nearly 2 months post-op and nearly 40 pounds down. Today as I was walking toward a reflective glass door I noticed the most amazing thing! There were these two dark, shadowy areas on either side just below my neck! I had to squint to see what they were. I have hollows above my collar bones! I don't know if they just appeared today or if this sweater is just highlighting them, but either way, I don't remember the last time I had hollows anywhere let alone at my collar bones! Just had to share! pam

What a difference a year (and sleeve, diet and exercise) make. On my birthday last year, I weighed 274 (@ 5'7 tall), and my sizes were 54-56 chest/jacket; 50 waist; 3X t-shirts. After sleeve on June 2, 2015, I'm now 200 lbs and wear 44 chest/jacket; 38 waist, and XL men's t-shirts. And I'm still losing weight.

Things have changed fairly rapidly over the last month since I had surgery on November 20th and wanted to share my progress. I know that I still have a VERY LONG way to go, but I have been shocked at how much things have changed in such a short period of time. I know some info might be TMI, but I just wanted to share with those that might be interested. So, here is my 1 Month Post-Op Progress Report. Weight Lost: 36.2 pounds Inches Lost: 27.5 inches Pant Size: 58 down to 50 waist Shirt Size: 4XL down to 2XL-3XL (depending on the shirt) Short/Boxer Size: 4XL down to 2XL Distance able to walk: Was at 50 yards and now up to 3.0 miles Time able to walk: Was at 2 minu…

Well it finally happened, I made it to my originally stated goal and the one that my surgeon also agreed upon. I've so looked forward to this that I had built it up in my mind as a momentous occasion that would be a auspicious event and streamers and confetti would rain down from the sky while a baptist church chorus sang hallelujah. Well that didn't happen. My stall before hitting goal had lasted 6 weeks and I thought for sure that would make the victory all the more sweeter, so I didn't mind the stall. I just kept on keeping on and working out. Then on the 22nd when I did my weekly weigh in it finally happened. 218 lbs, actually 2 lbs less than my goal. Know what I fe…

LOL...That's how I feel! I'm officially at the same weight I weighed in High School and more importantly, I'm no longer in the obese category of BMI and am now merely overweight. I'm so freaking happy! I can't believe I've lost 151 lbs in 8 months. I just have 49 more pounds to go and then I'll be at goal. These past few days I keep remembering what is was like to be this small. Lots of good memories from my teenage years. I feel more alive and mischievous than ever! (I forgot what a huge flirt I was lol.) I will be eternally grateful for the gastric sleeve and for finding this place. The surgery truly is a life changer. If you are reading this and are considering havi…

I just had to share this- I was sleeved on December 28, 2015. When I began the liquid diet on December 7 (I had an extra week of pre-surgery liquids, long story) I weighed 349. Today, I weigh 310. For the past few days, I have avoided my "fat jeans" as I call them, because they had become so baggy. You know the kind, the elastic waist, big baggy jeans. When I began, I had that elastic stretched to the point that, had the button cut loose and hit someone across the room, they would have thought they had been shot. No joke, they were tight. They were size 48 that the waist stretched to 52, and I was using that 52 comfort waist to the max. Like I say, I hadn't worn them for …

I am 4 months out of surgery and have lost 60 pounds with huge success. My only concern is that I have a good sized grapefruit sized lump over my incision where the stomach came out. I believe he told me at first preop it would go away. After 4 months out it shows up more because everything else has disappeared . I get concerned because I can't find anyone on here who has had the same problem. Anyone have this problem?

As we wrap up 2015, I find myself reflecting on my RNY. I am still surprised that I went through with my July 27 surgery. I started the process in early March, quickly qualifying for the surgery. My surgeon moved up my surgery by two weeks at the beginning of June. At that point, it became very real that this was happening. I immediately went on a liquid diet and stopped all meds. I pushed my fears aside throughout the process, knowing that my surgeon was well qualified. As my husband said, "this isn't his first rodeo." Since surgery, I have learned to listen to my new system and attend to its needs. I know what makes it happy and what doesn't. And I know I will pay a p…

3 weeks Post-Op and so proud of how my Christmas went. My husband and I walked everyday even on Christmas and even in the rain. We also realized we can have very small portions of some of our favorites. We always do breakfast on Christmas so I was able to eat a scrambled egg and a few very itty bitty bites of ham. I am very pleased with the Sleeve so far!! Looking forward to the New Year!!!!

So as of today I am almost 3 months out from VSG and I have lost 55lbs. Today is Christmas and things are very different this year, for the first time in my life I didn't overeat into misery at Christmas dinner, I have stayed well within my nutritional goals for the day, and (here's a big one for me) I came home and worked out when we got back from the family gathering I have never ever done that before. For me today was a few big NSVs that made the holiday all that much more enjoyable! ???? On the left was at my all time highest weigh, middle was at surgery, and right was a few weeks ago.

I am pre-op but have been dieting and exercising with weight lifting as a part of that routine. I really enjoy it, nothing too heavy but definitely lots of reps (25-50) 3-4 times each exercise. Anyone know how long before you can resume cardio and weightlifting. And how did it go any complications, were things different?
-
Thank you to everyone on this forum. Without it I don't think I would have had the courage to start this journey. Sometime over the holidays I hit my goal weight of 175. Thats down from 245 at my heaviest and 228 day of surgery. I haven't been on this forum for quite some time, but I just had a look at my before pics. Holy cow. I cant believe I was that person. I feel 100% more confident and better about myself. I have lost 80 lbs and for the first time since middle school have been in a normal weight BMI zone. I went from size 38-40 jeans to 29-30. XL shirts to Medium. This is an incredible tool and I wish I could go back and give everyone who struggles with weight…

This is a huge NSV for me. I've always had big feet for a girl. Kind of embarrassed about it especially because I'm only 5'6 ish. My brother used to make fun of me and call me Saskwatch!! So mean ???????????? Anyway, at a size 9.5 my feet were already above average. When I gained weight, they grew to a size 10.5!!! ????????????????. Almost 11!! Oh. My. God. The horror!! Anyway. I've lost 130 pounds. And I now wear a size 9!!!!! Yes!!!! Thank you vsg for saving my feet. And no foot pain either!! What did your feet do?

It has been a VERY LONG time since i posted!! I had gastric sleeve on Dec 9th 2013. I have lost 115 pounds and still steadily losing. I have about 40 more to go. I did have a stall there for about 6 months but I am back at losing a little at a time. Lets see what has changed......Lets do the positive first: My lupus is basically in "remission" if you will. i have had minimal flares since surgery. I am not with out pain and run down but no where near what I was. I have completed over 10 5K races, 5 10K's and one half marathon! i am training for my first full Oct of 2016. I have been kayaking, fit in an airplane seat, and all those great little things that come with we…

Hi everyone, I thought I would share a funny conversation that went on in my living room last night. I was sitting on the chaise, my husband was laying on the sofa and my 17 year old daughter was folding laundry standing at the end of the chaise. My husband looks over at me and asked, "Have you been on the scale yet (surgery was 8/27/15)?" I replied with, "No, I wanted to wait until I was sure all of the surgery swelling and Water retention were gone first. Why?" He said, "Because it looks like you are starting to melt." I looked at my daughter and she said "He is right Mom, you are melting." I had to laugh. It was too cute. The scale still hadn't gone back…

Hi! So I'm a year out now - how did THAT happen? I'm not done yet, but it's been a pretty wild ride so far. I'm down 105 pounds from my starting weight, 101 from the day of surgery (I lost 4 on the pre-op liquid diet over 2 days, lol), and at LEAST 135 from my highest, which was earlier last year (that scale only hit 330 and I maxed it out). Along the way, I've discovered a few personal realities - they may not be true for everyone else, but for me they are. - Some days I look at stuff I've worn before and think, "There's not a chance in hell that's going over my head." Every single time, I'm shocked when it does. - Lots of people treat me better now that …

Greetings to Fellow Sleevers and Sleevers-to-Be - The purpose of this post if to provide some experience to the older crowd that might be considering VSG, as compared to usual ways to loose weight plus exercise. ME: I am 2 months post-op VSG. My surgery went incredibly well (4-16-2015). I had little to no pain, could drink Water soon after, could eat with no discomfort. Was moved to soft foods at one week post op (normal for my program if you are proceeding well). I was able to eat shellfish at two weeks post-op, btw. Can eat quite a bit with no issues, keep my daily calories < 700 and my daily carbs < 50. I use KetoStix to assure my body stays in stat…

So many positives from my surgery. My outlook on life, energy, and overall happiness and relationships are better. I just went for my 6 month checkup and my blood work has come back better than I ever imagined it would! Seriously, it hasn't been this good so many years. I am so thankful. Plus, I was sitting in an assembly last week and realized I could sit and cross my legs, forgot where I was and kept crossing one then the other! Had to tell my friend to look at what I could do after many years! Then we had the office party this weekend (where I had a great time as I sipped Water and had no food, I might add!) and when it came time to play LCR I sat at the table, notice…

Hey guys! Well, my nine month anniversary was on Christmas day and every month we take pictures of my progress. I still have a few pounds to lose so I asked my dietitian how do I make this stop, I don't want to look too sickly. She told me that at 135 pounds to slowly introduce good carbs and fats into my diet and watch the scale. Well, with the holidays and the death of my mother in law, it has been real easy to slow down my weight loss. I guess you could say I'm at a stall at 137 and have been for a month. Which is fine, I have come a long way and looking back I can't believe how fast it went. The first 2 months after surgery I was frustrated because I was still …

Hello everyone-- I am trying to make a decision between having the Gastric Sleeve or the Gastric Bypass (RYN). My Doc is steering me in the direction of the bypass because of my issues with GERD/Acid Reflux. However, he is leaving it up to me and has recommended that I complete thorough research in an effort to make an informed decision. Any of you sleevers experience a greater sensation of GERD after surgery? If so, how is it being controlled? My wife and I prefer the sleeve over the bypass.
-
We're different, we're not just Sleevers........we have a SIPS connection. So let's connect here! Pre op, post op doesn't matter. Our issues are slightly different than our sleeve friends. So let's here from you now! I'm post op 7 months, below goal weight and eat whatever. But there can be repercussions. I ve been throwing some small kidney stones. My doc says this should stop soon. Anyone else?

I just had a follow-up appointment with my PCP and he is beyond thrilled with my progress. It is so funny to actually look forward to doctor's appointments. (I always dread appointments before surgery because I felt so helpless. Yes, I know I need to lose weight.) I thanked him for twisting my arm and making me at least talk to the folks at the bariatric program he recommended. Who knew that he was referring me to such an awesome program and most of all a very talented surgeon? I couldn't have picked a better one myself. Looking forward to me next follow-up already!

Why am I thankful? Exactly 2 years ago today I suffered a massive stroke which woke me around 7 a.m. I ended up in Mayo Hospital for 6 days and then straight to Brooks Rehab for an additional 10 days. At age 52 you just don’t think this will ever happen to you. It’s been an uphill battle but I’ve faced every challenge (left with severe nerve condition on right side of my body) with a positive attitude and spirit. I’m blessed beyond measure with the support of loving family members and friends. Mayo Hospital has saved my life more than once … stroke, pain rehab for my nerve condition and then RNY surgery! Losing this weight is the last piece to my recovery puzzle as I neve…

Thoughts? Experiences? I am 58, down from 272 to 160 in 14 months. I will likely lose more but am not pushing it. I wear a medium now; I am 5'4". My body is pretty slim now but I carry some excess in my abdomen. I doubt I can justify surgery for that. The skin on my upper arms is a little droopy but that's not a huge deal. My neck drives me nuts though. It's not enough to make people stare or run away but it bugs me! It's just a saggy stretchy spot on my neck like a skinny old lady might have. I hate it! Anyone else looked into plastics?

How much excess skin do you guys think I will have if im 260 pounds and 5'4 1/2

Hi All. I was sleeved 2/3/15 at 275 lbs. and a height of 5'7". I hit my goal weight of 160 lbs. in October. However, since then, I can't stop losing weight. I can't believe I'm even saying, let alone complaining about that, as this is certainly a problem I have never faced before in my life. I'm 146 lbs. now, so I'm not underweight and am still considered "normal" by all the charts. But I'm losing my curves and still losing hair, so I'm starting to become concerned. I've added back in everything except carbonation, but of course it's all in moderation now since I still eat small portions and become full quickly. Any advice?

I have been overweight for most of my life, I tried different diets that worked for awhile but then I would not only regain what I lost but gain even more. A several years ago my sister lent me her Jillian Michaels DVD set which I completely loved, but after two months I lost interest and a change in career had me going back to my old habits. I loved working out and eating healthy but after a long day at work I was starving so my husband and I would go home and eat til I was so full that I did not have the energy to go to the gym. This went on for a few of years until I got to the point when I would look at myself in the mirror and say to myself "this is me, I'm always g…

I reached 70 pounds lost this morning and I wanted to post a few photos for those considering WLS. I am five months post op and I had a Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy in Tijuana Mexico. I used Dr Jesus Martin Lopez. He and his staff were amazing. I booked my surgery through BariatricPal and they were also wonderful. I have had no problems and I can tolerate 90% of what I eat. Every now and then I have something that doesn't agree with me. This doesn't mean I can never have it, I just wait and try later. It simply meant it wasn't time to have it yet. I attribute my lack of complications to Dr Lopez. He did an amazing job and is truly a talented surgeon. The surgery…

.....I started my preop diet. I consider this my anniversary date rather than my actual surgery since I lost 22 pounds on the preop. Since surgery I have lost over 100% of my excess weight and have kept it off for over a year. I don't measure or track my food. I don't own a scale. I never obsessed over numbers or details. I just stuck with mostly Protein and veggies while I was losing and stayed away from the "white carbs". For maintenance I simply eat a healthy balanced diet including protein, veggies, fruit and whole grains. I make healthy choices (most of the time) and my sleeve helps control my portions. I still indulge in sweets, Desserts, alcohol, bread,…

Hello everyone!! Just another check in with my progress. It will mark 4 months on the 28th of DEC and as of today I am down 105 pounds! I am cautious about what I eat but I do not go crazy. I do not do pasta, or bread more so soft bread that sucks... Crazy thing is I am not even wanting it. I find other things! I can say as of today I feel this is the best choice I have ever made in my life! Good luck everyone!! If there are any questions I would answer them the best I can!
