Just wanted to take a moment and share a little bit of my journey with everyone. I was sleeved in TJ Mexico by Dr. Illan on 03/08/016. I loved everything about choosing my surgery in Mexico. It was more like a vacation! I am 79 lbs down! Went from a 26/28 pants that where tight down to a 20 that is falling off of me. My shirts were a 4X and now they are a XL. Sometimes I find myself not doing what I should and the scale stops moving. It is just a reminder to get back on track. Everyone told me not to do the surgery because it was the "easy way out". If this is easy I hate to see what they called hard! You have to want a change to see a change. You have to work for every p…

I can't believe I'm coming up on 3 years post op in just a couple of months! Time flies! I just wanted to share some "non-scale victories" as I have more of those these days as the numbers get smaller. I'm not where I would love to be ideally. I have loose skin that I've come to terms with, and another 15 or so pounds to lose, but my husband and I recently went to Mexico for a vacation that I have been planning for what feels like forever and it was just crazy to me what a different experience it was for me to go 140 pounds lighter. I did things I never would have done like snorkeling, paddle boarding in front of strangers, Water zumba, etc. I got rid of all of those bath…

I am 10 weeks post op today and my numbers are as follows. Start weight 278 current weight 229 I have been moving very very slowly down. I do not think I am getting enough calories I know not enough protein at all. I get about 40 grams protein and approx 400 calories a day. I am not hungry and nothing tastes the same so I just don't want to eat. Help suggestions please? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

So, I'm chaperoning Boy Scout camp soon and we all had to go do swim checks yesterday! I passed the Boy Scout swim test! Yay, me! You need to swim 100 yards continuously. The wave pool we did it in was actually bigger than 25 yards across, so who knows exactly how far it really was Hubby asked when the last time I swam that far was... I'm thinking never.

Six weeks post op and 61 lbs gone since I started this journey. I went to my closet today and picked a shirt I have not been able to wear in a few years and not only did it fit but it was a little loose. The weight loss number is only a single chapter. The inches lost all over my body is the rest of the story. Brian Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G935A using the BariatricPal App

Hi Friends, I’ve taken a bit of time to write my story as it comes from my heart and I hope that it’s helpful. Let me say – I’m here if you have questions or if there’s anything I can do to help. LIFE BEFORE: My quality of life wasn't very good, although my health #'s weren't incredibly high, I just didn’t feel healthy. My blood pressure was borderline high but otherwise pretty much normal. Personally, I just didn't feel good in my skin. Clothes didn't fit right or they just felt like potato sacks. I was a size 24 at my highest, 260 lbs and I’m 5’6”. My biggest worry day to day was – am I going to break a chair. It was dreadful. I hated airline travel, movi…

This has been a great weekend for NSVs. I did a tour of an underground cave system, and I never once had to think, "oh lord, please let me fit." I walked up the 60+ stairs at the end without stopping for a break. And, I had a regular customer come up to me to say they didn't recognize me. I am about six weeks out from RNY, down 80 lbs all together (50 before surgery, 30 since). I feel really good. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

I weighed 354 at my annual check up in December and was borderline everything bad (blood pressure, diabetes, etc). I've lost 82 lbs since I started on a low carb diet Jan 3rd and 52 of those since surgery in March. I just finished a 5 mile walk this morning that I would have never even tried a few months ago. I have a nearly whole new wardrobe, most of my clothes got way too big. I am going on a 7 day rafting trip on the Colorado River through the Grand Canyon in July - wouldn't have even considered this before now. So, while it isn't "easy", if I can do it, I know you can too! Just take the plunge and try to stick to the plan as best you can. The rewards are worth it!

Wow! What a difference a year makes! I have been thinking about this day all week. One year... What a ride! Here are some stats: I am 1.1 pound away from being "normal" BMI; I am down 147.8 pounds total (121 pounds of that since surgery); I have lost 83.5 inches (18 inches off my hips ALONE / 12 inches off EACH thigh!); pants size down from loose 28 to 12 or 14; dress size down from 24 or 26 to a size 12. Some of the best NSV's: Buckling airplane seatbelt and not having bruises on my thighs from the plane seat arms; ability to get up and down off the floor so easily; my clothes have stopped falling off hangers; ability to fit in a "normal" robe when I go to a sp…

This is very, very, VERY hard for me to write. Please, before anyone responds, I don't need any harsh criticism, I just need support. I was sleeved July 31st, 2015. Up to date, I have lost 60 pounds. Yes, I am way behind in my weight loss. I've gotten off the path and have started eating bad food again. The sugary things were making me sick before, they aren't now....why? I just don't understand it, I know people that have gotten the sleeve, have "gotten away" with eating sweets when they wanted, and have lost 100 pounds by now. I'm not saying I expect to go back to bad habits and the weight still come off, just wondering why it's different for me? I thought certain foods…

Ok. Ok. It's only been 10 weeks. I'm officially down to 217 from 272. Almost 60 lbs with still a long way to go. BUT! Today is my bday. I feel better today than I've felt in ages. I didn't run from the camera! I'm shopping in the XL tops now in the "regular" section. Pants 16-18 from 24. Did I mention this is only 10 weeks out??? Got a hair cut today, bought some new clothes and got a facial w dermabrasion. So, for a little perspective- grainy pic is me at 280. Next picture is today at dinner with my hubby and family. Last one in front of my new porch. Best decision EVER. And I enjoyed a lovely meal sharing off others plates at a new restaurant a friend owns…

Wow, what a surreal year this has been!! My stats: High weight: 337; current: 213.1; goal: 175 Height 5'6.5"; #lost: 123.9; # to go: 38.1 Health: I'm not as thrilled as I thought I'd be with health improvements. I was taken off blood pressure meds, but I won't be surprised if I end up on them again based on readings lately. I'm still pre diabetic (Grrr!), but my A1C has gone down. Blood work otherwise looks good, I'm battling to keep my ferritin and Iron up, but feel no ill effects. I take my Vitamins regularly. Fitness: I'm rocking this. I have a routine I love, a mix of activities including running, circuit training, weights biking and the elliptical. Best of al…

So I've always had a strained relationship with my father. All my life he's called me "fat a**" when angry with me. Even up to just prior to my surgery those words would come out of his mouth. Then even after I lost the weight he accidentally let it slip once and I just busted out laughing in his face because those words have no impact on me anymore. This said my Dad actually gave me a compliment. He saw me walk down a flight a stairs and he said for a split second he thought I had went back in time and became a teenager again. He said I look just like how he remembers me from when I was 15 or 16 and before I started packing on the pounds.

I weighed myself today at work, and I got on that scale and it said 199 lb. I got off and went back on because I was in disbelief!! 199 lb. I couldn't believe it. I had my Gastric bypass a little over 6 months ago, & I did a 6 month post explaining everything, but to see 199 pounds on the scale was like WOW!! I mean last year on May 22, 2015 2 days after my 29th birthday, I went to my PCP and was 308 pounds and newly diabetic. and This year in 2 days it will be my birthday and I am 199 pounds, it is just surreal. I have always been a big person, Always!! I am saying bye to my 20s and the the 109 pound person I was carrying around. Very emotional. Very happy. H…

So, only WLS people can understand this- I missed sizes. Literally! Blew right past most of 20 and 18! Lol. Shopping today for MUCH needed pants/ shorts (!!!) I found myself in 16's. Wohoo! Long way to go still-72 lbs. but just WOW! This has been discussed before, but yesterday went to put on my FAVORITE white Capri jeans. I almost mourned them as I held them literally 10 inches from my stomach not to mention my legs swimming in them.

Yeah I did, went from 254 to 132 now I'm 147 and that's after losing 13 pounds how did this happen? A new relationship is what happened got to comfortable, not working out, going on dinner dates now I'm paying for it and I'm approaching my two year so I'm bigger now than I was last year this time. Have to admit last summer was the best summer ever I got to wear summer dresses that I never would of put on at 254 and just seeing my man eyes light up when I walked through his door wearing those dresses was priceless. So with that being said I'm going to lose this weight my new goal is 125 to 130 I think that's perfect for a 5ft1 frame.

Yesterday marked my 8 month surgery anniversary and I have gone from 319 pounds on surgery day to 200.6 pounds this morning! The picture on the left was right around surgery time and on the right was this morning. It's a lot of hard work but so worth it! I feel like I've been given my life back!

Hi everyone, I am counting down the days to a new me on May 26th! I wasn't nervous until anesthesia told me I may wake up from surgery with a bad sore throat and unable to speak for a few hours because of the 2 tubes they put in your throat, the first to intubate and the second the camera to blow up your stomach with air to check for leaks before recovery.. did anyone wake up with a severe sore throat? Second, I have been shopping for high Protein and low calorie foods. For continued success after surgery and the healing process do you recommend any tasty high protein/low cal foods to help take the weight off and fill you up? Does anyone have advice or recipes to make …

Today marks two years since my gastric sleeve surgery. It seems like only yesterday I was posting about my one year surgiversary! I started this journey at 320 lbs. At one year out I was down 135 lbs, weighing 185. Three months later I found out I was pregnant! Long story short, my new baby daughter is 2.5 weeks old and she is just lovely! I gained 20 lbs during my pregnancy, and at 2.5 weeks after having her I'm already back down to my pre-pregnancy weight. Guess it was all baby and Water weight! So at 2 years out I am still down 135 lbs weighing 185. My goal this year is to lose the last 15 or so lbs. It would be amazing to get a tummy tuck at some point. Espec…

Hi all! I was sleeved on 4/26, so that makes me nearly 5 weeks post-op. I M currently eating on average 350 calories and 40 grams of Protein a day. As well as drinking 64 oz of Water. The protein and water intake are what my Kaiser program calls for. But, I'm not sure about calories... I've lost 22 lbs in the past 31 days, not sure if eating more calories will help or hurt... The last five months has most certainly been a roller coaster. It has felt harrowing at times. I under estimated the profound effect that losing weight would have on me. It is an intense process, staying present with my quickly changing body. Things, things I have been hiding away under a lot of weight for many years rise to the surface to be processed as my fat cells break open on my body shrinks. Sadness I've held in my belly. Rage I wrapped around my hips. Grief that has laid heavy upon my chest. The peak of mountains in the landscape of my body just starting to show, formally submerged in a sea of fat. Instances of sudden ecstatic joy. Glitches, and translating …

I know it's early to Celebrate (or is it?) or maybe not enough to create a whole topic, but this might motivate people peeking through the endless pages of the forums! So I'm officially three months (and two days) out of my surgery, and I have lost 27kgs, which translates to 59,5248 pounds according to google! I am really glad I did this surgery for it has already changed many aspects of my life, it has taught me that life's pleasures do not only revolve around eating/drinking. I know the "path" is still veeery long and that it will not always be easy, but so far I am really pleased with the results. Of course I strictly follow my surgeon/doctors advice and I also…

Last summer I was able to wear 2 piece, but with a coverup. I was still conscious of my tummy and thighs. But after recovering from plastics and working HARD in the gym 5-6 days a week, I can officially say that I will be hitting the beach this spring without a coverup. When I put on my 2 piece and saw my pic, I think I cried and cried for a good 10 minutes. Cried for my experience as an obese person, cried for the struggles of life post-op, cried because I WORKED HARD for this dang it, and I have finally arrived. People...I have FINALLY arrived! Sorry for the crappy picture! My husband "cleaned it" with something that was not Windex...and I have yet to purchase a full …

My evil scale just got a pardon. I was ready to commit it to a watery grave (the pool) but it decided to actually go DOWN in numbers- finally! I had revision from a band to a sleeve on April 20th and for the last week had been stuck in the dreaded stall. Thanks to the wonderful advice of the members on this site I kept to plan- Protein, fluids and exercise. So here we go- this is the first time I'm posting actual numbers.... Surgery weight- 177 Current weight- 159 Goal weight- 140 I can honestly say this surgery has changed my life. I have unbelievable energy and feel fantastic. When I feel down about slow progress, I need to remember where I came from. I no longer have diabetes or fatty liver issues and I'm a year out from a hysterectomy for uterine cancer that was likely exacerbated by the extra weight. About 95 pounds down so far. Blessed. ETA - the two years is just a timehop thing. My surgery was Dec '15. I'm 5 months out.

One of the surgeons in the clinic I am using is adamant that they are seeing more issues with weight regain after sleeve compared to bypass. I have not been able to find any research to back this up. Any help would be appreciated as I have my mind wrapped up in the sleeve surgery not the bypass. Thanks in advance

Hard to believe what a difference a year can make... lost 121 lbs. so far! So glad I took "Before" pics and actually saved the clothes (3X top & 2X pants) to try on again at my 1 year Surgiversary! Here are the pics to show the difference, along with a couple of current pics in clothes that actually fit (tops M & jeans S). Having RNY (4/21/15) was one of the best decisions I've ever made! Hey guys, I was sleeved 10/2014 and am now 5 months pregnant. I hear that most sleevers have cesarean births but we don't know why. Has anyone out there had any sleeve-related complications with pregnancy? Were you able to have a vaginal delivery? Also, I feel like my OB doesn't really understand my needs. Anyone know of an OB in Maryland who specializes in post bariatric mommies? Thanks!

I just made my 6 month surgiversary last week. Needless to say, the journey has just began. I stood on my scale this morning (day late from yesterday) and I have dropped down into the 170's at 179.2. A difference of nearly 68 lbs since beginning my journey last November. I am not sure what it was about this particular weight or those numbers but I was a bit in shock as I stood there looking down at the scale. I think it deals mostly with the amount of weight I still need to release/let go/fire (I don't generally say lose or lost if it is a purposeful act). With a goal weight of 145 lbs, 34.2 lbs seems just around the corner. I am not saying it will easy or even tha…

On May 12, 2015, I had my weight loss surgery in Tijuana. I had a procedure called Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy, or "gastric sleeve" for short. About 80% of my stomach was removed. The normal human stomach is about the size of a football. My new stomach is the size of a banana. As a result of the surgery I can only consume small portions of food, ranging from a few ounces to a cup of food, depending upon what I'm eating. However, the amazing thing about this is that I am fully satiated from eating so little. When our stomachs are full they send signals to the brain that makes us feel satiated and we stop eating. Since my stomach is so small I get those signals way quicker …

Yesterday was my one year Surgiversary!! Woohoo!!!! Hard to believe that I have made it this far, but alas, here I am... *AND* I have not only survived but I am loving life. There is so much to reflect on, but overall, I truly believe this was the best decision I have ever made and I am now a happier, healthier version of me. That’s not to say that the past year hasn’t been without its share of ups and downs … plenty of those! However, all in all, if I had to go back to the point of no return I can honestly say I would be willing to do it all over again. Here’s how things are looking… HW: 305lbs SW: 265lbs CW: 173lbs Total weight lost: 132lbs Clothes: From a size …
