Hi everyone! I had the lap band in 2015 and thought I would be completely different within a year. I initially started to lose weight but even at the beginning felt like I shouldn't be able to eat as much as I could. I was constantly hungry and felt like I was starving all the time. I had several adjustments and even got to the max allowement then had to have it drained because I couldn't even drink Water.. It was aweful! My heaviest weight was 289.7 and I didn't even realize it! I seen a picture of myself and had no idea who that person was. I am 5'8 and have always been told that I'm curvy and look "good" so it never occurred to me that I was actually that big sin…

Who's spouse doesn't want you to lose much weight? My husband says not to lose over 30lbs. And he is very very slim. (Too slim). I feel he is undermining why I am doing this. Like 30lbs will not make me healthy. It makes me feel like he thinks this is a cosmetic choice instead of a medical need. In fact he had called this elective surgery over and over like I am getting a nose job. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Hi. I'm 2 years out from my sleeve surgery. I was doing very well and slid downhill recently. I was under a tremendous amount of stress and started stress eating. Ive gained 8 lbs. I do not want to gain anymore and really need to lose the 8 I gained. I feel like I'm hungry all of the time no matter what I eat, and yes I've done high Protein. I need to mention that even after the surgery I still needed to eat healthy Snacks in between meals, the whole ghrelin thing didn't apply. I was still hungry. I was down a total of 86 lbs. Now I feel like I'm spiraling out of control and with the holiday's coming I'm getting really nervous. I just can't go back the old me, …

  5. Hey peeps! I'm 3.5 months out and I've lost 61 pounds! What I was wondering is how many carbs should I have per day. Also I've been shooting for 60-80 grams of Protein a day but it's very difficult. I emailed my dietician these same questions but I wanted to ask you guys. Also, I lost weight quicker when I avoided carbs altogether but my PCP said I was malnourished and to eat some carbs. Thanks for any advice!!

Hi all, nice to meet you. Well I had r.n.y Surgery 8 years ago in October. I lost 175 pounds then fell I'll. I have Lupus, fibromyalgia, rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis and all the constant pain and problems that are a part of that. But, not here to pity party myself but celebrate being able to maintain the weight loss for 6 years despite steroidal medicines and being in a wheelchair when I leave the house. I was wondering if anyone knows how to lose the excess thigh and belly skin? Part of the walking problems is how the skin moves around making me off balance. Weird I know But anyway, I had the lower belly skin removed (aprin?) 2 years after sur…

Hello everyone! I'm new to all this but I was approved for the sleeve and was told I had to do 6 months worth of nutrition and classes, and other things. Today would of been my last day for nutrition phone visits and was supposed to start my 6 weeks of classes but was told I can't start my classes until January, I'm a little bumbed out but I guess it gives me more time to work on my nutrition and exercise. I'm 11 months post-op and hit a big milestone for me with this week's weigh-in. I'm down 261 lbs, which means that I now weigh less than half what I did when I started this process a year ago. I can't get over how different my life is now and how much better I feel. In less than 1 year, I have gone from having to park in a handicap space to hiking 7 miles purely for fun and enrolling in a krav maga class! Thanks to everyone on this forum for the helpful information and encouragement.

OK, time flies, and my 6 months post op are coming up in few days. I wrote a detailed 3 months post op journey, with all the great health changes and weight loss. I am still enjoying the great health changes, and my weight is still going down, albeit bit slower now. No more acid reflux for me, yay! Weaning myself off Nexium slowly, and so far so good. I want to show few photos, I have 2 lots of Befores, as I was slim prior to my massive, rapid weight gain in 2014-2016. So, here are a couple of me in 2009, and 2013 Then the 2014-2016 photos. 13. Hi everybody! I am really considering weight-loss surgery because I have been struggling with weight issues for six years... Tried everything and it doesnt work. Based on BMI, etc, I should be around 130-140. Therefore, I have about 60-70 pounds to lose. And as I was talking to a nurse she mentioned that weight loss for me was not going to be as fast as I expected. This kind of bummed me out because she mentioned that I would maybe 5 to 10 pounds a month... Even though I know weight-loss is good regardless of the amount, it kind of bummed and discouraged me... Did anyone start off at around 200 lbs and have successful "normal" weight-loss in the first months? Please…

Hi there! Sleeved 10/4 and down 11 pounds. I understand what to eat/drink during each phase but when I go to full foods after a month, I honestly do not have time to think about what to make for dinner. My lifestyle has been hectic lately. I travel for work and when I get home, I don't want to think...sounds strange, I know. Is meal delivery service an option? I have seen some meal delivery services such as Home Chef or Blue Apron, Freshly where there are high Protein, low carb meals ready to make at home. Any suggestions would be helpful Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

It's still moving in the right direction! Still not sure what goal weight I want. I feel pretty good but would at least like to hit a non-overweight BMI with a little wiggle room. I went to the dr yesterday and told my GP I'm considering WLS. He said I wouldn't be successful unless I controlled my eating first, or else I'd gain the weight back. He recommended Weight Watchers. I've done that a few too many times already, and told him that it wasn't sustainable for me--I always gained it back. He said if I couldn't be successful on WW, I wouldn't be on WLS either. I said I the sleeve would give me an advantage that would allow me to be successful. He responded by saying I'd lose weight at first but then I'd learn to eat around it, and the whole thing would be a waste. A heated discussion ensued. When I was researching WLS, the first thing I did was…

Hello all, I haven't posted in a while. I figured since I am 3 months post surgery, I would update about my journey. Since surgery, I have been regularly going to a gym, and power walking 2 to 5 miles a day. As my weight has dropped, my mile times have gone from around 22 minutes per mile to around 17 minutes per mile, average. Best time so far was a little over 16 minutes, which for my short legs, is gettin' it! I haven't lost enough yet to jog for extended periods, but I am getting close. I went through a period of low energy level, started about 4 weeks ago, and I went to my surgeons office early last week, and had labs drawn. All my levels were good. I requested and…

Today is exactly one month since I had WLS. I don't normally weigh in mid week (I weigh in and do my measurements on Monday mornings) but since it has been a month since my surgery I weighed myself. I started my journey at my all time heaviest 280lbs. During the preop diet I lost 13lbs so on the morning of my surgery I was 267lbs. Today I weighed in at 240.2lbs. I am down 40lbs!!!!!! I'm finding my way through the new diet and feeling more confident by the day!

I am down 50 pounds!! I still don't believe it! I look in the mirror and still see the "Fat" girl. I look at pictures and say "that's not me". I do feel much healthier. Still have about 50 pounds to go. But I'll let my body determine that. Dr says I'm right on track and doing great! I continue to focus on my Protein and Water. I am so happy I decided to have the Gastric Sleeve surgery. No regrets. Best decision ever.

I never thought I would reach 60 pounds gone...!!! 7 of those pounds have come off since my surgery last Wednesday & the remainder has been lost since I started my pre-op weightloss in January this year (2016). My stats are: 5'9 (.5) tall, SW: 271 pounds (Jan 2016) CW: 211 pounds. I am still coping from time to time, rarely but it does happen. Sometimes I try new things, I like to play it safe, but little by little I've been trying new things or eating things I was used to. Overall I am very happy. I have lost a significant amount of weight, it's coming a long and I couldn't be happier. I realize when I do feel crappy and dump it is my fault, but even then it isn't terrible. I know I am lucky, but I do think a lot of your post op experience has to do with your mentality in general. I am so glad I had this procedure done, before having RNY on 4/4/16, I would work out for 1-1.5 hours a day 4x/week. I lost a little but it was incredibly slow and if I worked out any less or took a vacation for eating healthy I would gain back in a weekend what took me a month to lose. I just foun…

Well, here's a new one for me. I was unable to donate platelets today because my blood pressure is too low. The woman at the Blood Center said this is the first time in 30 years that she's ever had to defer someone for LOW blood pressure. Considering that 2 years ago my blood pressure was continuing to rise despite the meds I was taking to lower it, I'll call it a victory even though I really wanted to donate today. I am coming back next week to try donating again, with strict instructions to booze it up the night before, eat a bunch of salty foods, don't exercise that morning, and guzzle two cups of coffee before my appointment. My, how my life has changed. ????
