Good day and thanks for reading. First off, I want to say what an awesome place this seems to be so far. I see a lot of really informative posts, and information and pictures of what people have accomplished. My name is Josh, and I am 28 years old. I've always had an issue with weight, and trying to lose it. I buy all of my clothes offline, i do not go anywhere, except work and home, and i've decided that the sleeve is going to be the right fit for me. I along with my wife have both decided that this is what we are going to do to get ourselves better. We were married 5 years ago, and i've always looked for ways to make ourselves better, and we've tried diet after die…

I am hoping that one day I will be able to eat normal food again just in smaller portions. I don't mean fast food but if I go out with my family to a restaurant I can order pasta but only have a small amount? And what does NSV mean? I've seen in on a lot of threads.

So I had to share with people who can relate. I was getting ready for work this morning and was able to wear a much smaller pair of jeans that I haven't been able to wear in years. I asked my 15 yr old daughter if I looked ok and she welled up in tears, hugged me, and told me how great I looked and how proud of me she is. Made me feel so good. ????

One of my first posts on this forum was in the "What was your straw that broke the camel's back?" thread. I just went back and found it... "Going to a birthday party with my 7-year-old daughter for one of her friends and the activity was hiking up a moderate/difficult trail. 3 minutes in I felt like I was going to pass out but I was trying to keep on trucking like it was no big deal. The kids were all running ahead, the other moms were just walking along and chatting away, and I was just focusing on trying not to sound like I was huffing and puffing and two steps away from dying. It was the worst." That was an embarrassing afternoon. I think we went about 1/4 of a mil…

Hey everyone! I was sleeved on 9/4/14 and I have lost 120lbs and I would love to meet up with other people who also had surgery to Share stories both good and bad. So excited to meet everyone! Thanks Anthony

Originally, when I started this journey, my goal was to get ten pounds under my doctor's goal for me of 200 lbs. Right now I am sitting at 191 and so excited to have lost almost 123 lbs, more than 80 since my surgery 8 months ago. For all intents and purposes I have met my goal. But I want to go so much farther and I think I can. Ideally, I would like to be smack dab in the middle of the 120-160 range, which the BMI chart tells me would put me in the healthy range. So 140 is my big hairy goal, the one I secretly wanted to attain when the doc told me I would likely always be obese, just less so. My problem with working to that goal is a feeling of failure if I don'…

I was laying in bed today, (it's my day off) I was reading some posts and came across one that motivated me enough to get me out of bed at 7 and go do a 40 min workout. I was going to do the workout anyways but I was putting it off until later. Today is my double workout day...God help me. I've decided that I need to change things up for myself. I have already gotten in my 3 days of workouts that I require myself to do and still have 3 days left. I do believe I'll get in 5 days atleast this week. It's been a long time since I've done 5 days straight. I love to workout, I just let my life get in the way. Well not anymore. I know that if I want to reach my goal weight by my…

I was sleeved in December 2014 weighing in surgery day (at my highest weight) at 334 lbs. Never in my life did I think I would be able to say this, or do this, or keep at this... until I met my sleeve My birthday is coming fast. I will be 27 a week from today! In this next week (heck, with luck tomorrow morning) I will honestly be able to say I have taken the greatest trip ever imaginable and I plan it to be a one way trip, never to return. Ladies and gentlemen.... I'm going to ONEderland!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm not sure this is the right forum for this question, but the old veterans forum got buried in obscurity under another subforum (Alex- can we do anything to bump it back up?) But my question is for people who have hit or are near goal, what did your weight loss do when you got close? I'm finding mine has stopped, and quite suddenly over the past couple of months, is that normal? I'm not that concerned, maybe this is where I'm supposed to be and for what my calorie intake is vs. the amount of exercise I have time for, this may be it. Just curious if anyone saw a plateau and then started losing again. I'm definitely keeping an eye on it.
-
I have just got approved last week by insurance. Since I have been feeling like I need to eat my favorite foods before I start my liquid diet. Is this normal? I'm feeling guilty.

So, my one year surgiversary was in August and I've been thinking of how to Celebrate the success of the past year with my Bariatric Pal friends. What can I add to what hasn't already been said? What were my experiences that can inspire and help newcomers? What were the challenges I faced and overcame? What makes my story so much more special than anyone else's? I came to the conclusion that the answer to all of those questions is, everything and nothing. For all of us the journey is unique and it's our most special accomplishment, but all of our journeys are very familiar and the same for many who came before us. But if I left this post right here, you'd say he lost his …

I hit the century club this week (Over 100 lbs down about 8 months out from surgery), but more important than that, I just got back from vacation in Hawaii. A year ago, I wouldn't have been able to enjoy it nearly as much as I did this year. This year, the humidity didn't bother me nearly as much as it would have in the past, because I felt comfortable in shorts and dresses and swimsuits, much more than I did 100 lbs ago! I'm still technically obese, but I feel SO much better in my own skin. Also, during a hike, rather than stopping and sweating and wheezing, I was able to hike up steps without gasping for breath or wanting to sit on the ground. I know people debating…

I had to wait a few months Til I had money for new clothes but here it is, me in my old green 7x scrubs and in my new 3x grey scrubs, I could of gone with a 2x as you can see, but I was already excited and would of stressed if the 2x would have been tight, 93lbs to goal weight and going strong even on this small stall...... For you Elode as promised, thanks for your support!!!!

When do we put the past to rest? I feel like I'm living in this state of "I'm going to wake up and this will have been a dream". I'm afraid to let my fat self go. I want to fully move on into the present and future as my new self. A part of me is afraid I can't do this. Like I have to hold on to her because she's either going to come back, and I shouldn't get too comfortable, or she's my legacy and I need to wear her like a chain around my neck, or she's a me that's died and part of me misses her. Do I just miss the life I lived while I was her? So much happened in that life. She was real. Now I sound like I have split personalities. Is there a point that one …

Hi everyone! I'm 8 months out from my sleeve and I'm looking for ideas for meals. I seem to be eating the exact same things everyday and I'm getting so bored with that. So what do you eat for your meals? I'd love to have some new ideas! Thanks ????

In November of last year, I told my doctor I wanted weight loss surgery. In December of last year, I met with the surgeon. Over the next six months, I met all my pre-op requirements. In June of this year, I was approved by insurance. Next available surgery date was 8/8/15. My weight was 403. Now, three months after surgery, I am down 82 pounds. EIGHTY-TWO. Never, ever, thought I would be where I am. Thought I would be one of those people that would struggle endlessly to lose one pound a month, if anything. Or, worse, thought I would lose ten pounds then nothing after that. Thought I would be standing outside the clubhouse and not be allowed in. Never thoug…

Hi Everyone! I was wondering if anyone else is having this problem- when I am sitting either on a sofa, soft or hard chair, desk chair at work my butt starts to hurt. Doesn't matter if it's 5 min or an hour it hurts so much sometimes I have to shift myself so I'm more sitting on my hip. I had my sleeve done March 16 2015. Starting weight 221. I now weigh 130 ???? This has been going on for about 2 months now. No pain in my thighs or legs. Pain doesn't shoot anywhere else. Just at the fleshy buttocks area. I have to admit I'm not as fleshy back there as before my surgery. I'm wondering if I'm getting this because I'm not as big back there anymore. It's just frustrating…

Well guess who stepped on the scale this morning to 198.4 pounds? Me, fellow WLS friends! I am officially in "ONE-DERLAND!" Huzzah!!!!!!! I started 8 months ago at 259 lbs. One lap-band and whole lotta good exercise and careful eating later, and I am finally below 200 lbs for the first time in 15 years. I am fighting back tears at this very moment! Had to share this success. This is a big one for me. I reached a goal of getting in the 100's before students came back to the College. I'm not much of a goal-setter, but I'm here! Woo Woo! If I can do this, (I am the QUEEN of lack of willpower) ANYONE can do this!!!!

October 30th will mark the first anniversary of my surgery. What a year it has been. I am doing 40 minute sessions on a Cybex Cyclone 850 stepper at intensity level 4, burning 590 calories in a daily workout. Sunday I cycled 16 miles in addition to that. (Monday I took a day off) I am also taking Nitric Oxide. I have discontinued 3 medications, one for A1C (Metformin) and two for blood pressure (Amlodipene and Doxazosin). Blood pressure has been ranging in the 130s and 70s, resting pulse in the high 40s to low 50s. Last year my waist size was 54 inches and I tipped the scales at 350 pounds. To date I am down about 120 pounds and my waist size is 40 inches. I've …

Hey guys! I updated my blog. Someone had asked about my high school experience, being overweight and all around down on myself, so I updated a new post complete with pictures on how I looked in high school. https://phatchances.wordpress.com/2015/11/07/high-school-thr owback/ I thought I was so huge back then. I wasn't. I just needed to learn to love myself. Thanks to the LapBand I was able to do just that.

For those who don't know, a hemoglobin A1C test is an indicator of diabetes, and it measures your blood sugar levels over the past 3 months (simplified explanation). Over 8.0 = severe. 6.5 or higher = diabetes. 5.7 to 6 = prediabetic. less than 5.7 is normal. I had an A1C test the week of my surgery, and the level was 6.8, which was down from previous tests. I was taking metformin at the time. I haven't had any metformin since my surgery three months ago. My A1C has dropped to 5.9 now! My fasting blood sugar was 82 (65-99 is normal). Yayyyyyyyy!!!!!!!!!!!!

So I posted that I got an early weekend, and was given Friday and the weekend off from work, my 90 day follow up ( it was delayed by a month because of scheduling with my surgeon ) went too well, so I need opinions and help ( I won't get offended) first my dietician was upset because I told her I started drinking natural fruit juices, I drink them 2 or 3 times a week, about a cup, I am more regular and feel better, she said NO!!!, then my surgeon said I was at 277lbs ( I weigh myself at work and I thought 280lbs) so I've lost 32% of my total body weight and my BMI is down from 56% to 42%, I started at 388lbs in January and was 346.2 on my surgery date June 10th, basically…

Today I happened to check my BMI (which is a bit of a joke anyways) and I have finally moved from the obese range into overweight! I don't think j would have believed anyone if they would have told me that I would lose 80 pounds in less than 7 months! This surgery has been one of my biggest blessings!

Well.......actually one year and a month out from surgery. I still can't believe the person I see today. Took this picture about 10 minutes ago. To think, this time last year I weighed 222 pounds. Today I stepped on scale for first time in a month. I weighed 138 today. This has been so much work but I love it. Eight pounds away from my last goal.
-
I hope nobody minds me sharing, I'm still very early in my journey - my first appointment was two months and two days ago, my surgery was five days ago and since the start of this process as of today I am 50lbs down, 10lbs since surgery. I still have a long way to go but felt I wanted to share this small victory as I have found reading all of your posts inspiring and hope this may help another embarking on this brave journey.

I am so excited today! ! I got on the scale and it read 199!! I am 12 weeks out as of today and I reached my first major milestone- I'm under 200lbs! That is a total loss of 75lbs (68lbs since surgery 75 including the 2wk pre op diet) I am so happy! I have gone from a size 24 to a size 16. This surgery has literally saved my life. It is BY FAR the best money I could ever have spent!! I am so thankful everyday that I was able to do this. This forum has given me the best support system. I know that whenever I have questions or doubts I can get answers and support right here. It is an amazing tool. My next goal is to get to a size 12 by Christmas.... fingers cross…

Sorry for the cross-posting. I put this in the general forum then thought, wait a minute! This is a success story...lol. So here I am too. Today marks 2 years since my surgery. I never, ever would have thought I would be in the 120s when I started this journey. It has- and I have- surpassed my wildest expectations. I remember vividly the exact day I decided I had to do whatever it took to lose weight & be healthy. I was at Hershey Park with my then-6th grader daughter on a class field trip. I love parks, and since I didn't have the littles, I was excited to ride the roller coasters with my daughter. So we came to the first one, I squeeeeezed myself into the seat…

So I have just stepped over the border into onederland!! Took a little longer than I thought it would, and the last stall felt like forever! I still have almost 20 pounds to lose to reach the goal weight I set pre-op...180...I figure that's reasonable for my 5'8" larger frame. I haven't been under 200 in over 20 years! *happy dance*

Today marks my one year mark from my gastric sleeve surgery. I cannot believe how fast this year has gone. So many things have changed for the better for me and my family. I am a happy participant in my life now, no more standing on the side lines watching life pass me by. All my labs are in the perfect zone, and oh I have lost some weight along the way. I still have 25lbs to go to reach my first goal of 175 and I hope to do that by my birthday which is May 5th. I was hoping to get below 200 by today, but I will take 200.4 and keep moving forward. This tool that I have been blessed with is such a god send for me. I am glad to still have restriction, so I am …

I just had my six-month appt, and I'm officially down 104 lbs! I can't believe it. I'm about 50 lbs away from my goal of 175 (I'm 5'8"). More than anything, this process has showed me I don't have to be perfect. I've hit a couple of bumps during my journey, but instead of feeling discouraged, I just kept moving forward. My nutritionist also gave me some guidelines. I can eat up to 40g of carbs per meal! I was doing that per day! Now she did say that was the max, but it'll be nice to loosen the reigns a bit (think sweet potatoes and fruit, not French fries and fettuccine lol). I don't go back for another six months, which is a little scary. That will be the longest I'…

So I am headed to Vegas next week with my hubby and I thought, you know what....I want a more-sexy, less-mom bikini for this trip. SO I went out on a limb and ordered one from Victoria's Secret that I would normally never, ever think about wearing, let alone, buy, let alone post a picture of me in it. But then today I was looking back through some old beach vacation pictures and I couldn't find one single picture of myself in a bathing suit or with my kids at all. Through 4 summers worth of pictures that I got through, I found ONE. One single picture and I'm trying desperately to hide behind my kids. It made me so incredibly sad because I remember so clearly what th…

Bye bye 86 pounds! Love my sleeve!

I was banded 9 months ago - Dec, 2014 at 259 pounds, size 22 pants, tops: 2XL, bra 44 DDD. My weight loss was slow and steady for the first 4 months - what a delight it was to see the weight coming off and myself size getting smaller. At 6 months and my 5th fill, all of a sudden I hit the green zone. My hunger dimmed to almost nothing and then the weight started falling off fast. I hit the one-hundreds (ONE-derland!) a couple of weeks ago, and I am ecstatic. I'm down 64 pounds now. 25 of those pounds have been the past 3 weeks. WOW. I'm a size 14, L tops, 40DD bra. And I'm still going down fast. I am eating less than 1000 calories a day because I have no desire t…

Yep, I'm closing in on the two-year mark since my sleeve procedure, and the scale reads 147 pounds this morning. At 5'10", that brings my BMI down to 21.1, and that's a number I could NEVER have imagined after life as a size 5X, tipping the scales at 378 pounds! I'll be 56 years old in April, and I can honestly say that the last time I weighed less than 200lbs was in junior high school. I'm still coming to grips with the ridiculous amount of weight I had carried around all those years, all the abuse my poor body endured...it really is amazing that I am even here to share this experience! So, if any of you readers out there are still hesitant about "taking the plunge", all…

I have been going to concerts since I was eleven when my dad took me to see the Rolling Stones. Since then I have been to close to a hundred big name shows and about three dozen live local shows. Every show I have ever been to I have bought a shirt and they were a huge part of my wardrobe; I took very good care of them, made them look cool with jeans, shorts, little skirts, tights, boots, flats, heels, scarves, cardigans, blazers, etc. Obviously the ones I bought when I was much younger (early teens) didn't fit for very long but then in the last three years, none of them fit well. It felt as if a piece of my identity grew too small for me and it made me sad. I sealed th…

Hello, just wondering if there are any sleevers who have had issues not being able to urinate? I ended up going to the ER early this morning because I was so uncomfortable. I don't know what could have brought it on, and they tell me I don't have a uti, I'm not dehydrated, so they strapped me up with a portable catheter and sent me home. I'm to see my Dr. Tomorrow who did my sleeve surgery. Thanks in advance for any info.

We love sharing good news. This morning Staten Island Live did a feature story on NYC Marathoner and LAP-BAND Patient, Michelle Stiglitz. Click here to view the article. Michelle has lost 130 lbs. since her LAP-BAND procedure and states, “My weight loss journey has truly changed my life and I am so proud to now call myself a runner. Soon to be a marathoner!” Like so many WLS patients, Michelle is paying it forward by running with the Leukemia and Lymphoma's Team in Training. She has also become a personal trainer and fitness instructor "in hopes to help others live a more healthy life." Her story has appeared countless times over the past year in majo…

After losing over 150 pounds from my highest weight, I finally broke down and bought two new bras and underwear. I was planning to buy the next two sizes down of underwear all summer but kept putting it off. Since bra sizes are harder to predict I just ignored the decision. I finally ordered the next three lower sizes of underwear so I will be prepared. It feels so good to wear underwear that fits!

I realized a few minutes ago that today marks 1 year for me that I took the journey and had the Gastric Sleeve Surgery. It was the best thing I've ever done in my life. 1 year later, I have lost over 100 lbs, have muscle, I am more active and healthy than I have ever been. Memories and flash backs come back as I write this, of the day I came out of surgery and had that gassy feeling like I was going to vomit, or having to put up with the awful diet after the surgery and then I remember how I cheated, had worries about everything and how it all turned out okay. Thanks to everyone on here for your advise as its been much needed and so many questions have been ans…

At this point I would consider my surgery a success. Heaviest = 245 lbs Day of Surgery = 228 lbs Now = 174 lbs Wow. it seems like a lifetime ago I was morbidly obese with a BMI of over 36. Now I am officially at a "normal" weight and under 25 BMI. I think I still have 10 lbs more to go, but I am a whole new person. A few interesting notes: Its clear how bad my posture became from the weight. This is still not good, and I would like to address it. Dont know how, but my posture is still one of an obese person. I am just less hungry. I dont make good decisions all the time, but I clearly eat far less. It seems like Protein drinks in the morning is the biggest help …
