Hello everyone!! Been awhile since I posted but just wanted to jump on and give an update. I had my surgery 8-30-15 I was 379Lbs at time of surgery. I was 391 before that. Anyway I am now 2 months out and as of Monday 11-2-15 I am 310!!! I weigh myself once a week and once a week only! I have read countless post about people getting upset with weight and then you find out the check it everyday. Our bodys fluctuate day to day so the one thing I can say to those considering getting the surgery and those fresh out of it is DO NOT CHECK EVERYDAY, give yourself some time and do it once a week right in the morning when you get up and set a goal to be lower then that on next wei…

About three months after surgery, I started experiencing episodes of low blood sugar, usually after eating something bad for me. I was never diabetic and I've learned to deal with this and have learned what triggers the episodes. I'm 17 months out from surgery, down 110 lbs (20lbs more than goal weight), and have had no other complications. Anyone else with this same issue? Just looking for someone to commiserate with!

Exactly 6 weeks post-op and down my first 50lbs today! WOOOHOOO I'm 1/3 of the way to my goal. I don't notice a huge difference in how I look yet, (but man do I notice a HUGE difference in how I feel and my energy level already).

It is so true that falling back into old habits sneaks up on you. Over the past two months I got lazy about recording food and regular exercise. This caused a 3lb gain. My concern was not the weight gain but more of allowing old habits to sneak in. Instead of beating myself up I am acknowledging that this is part of the process and got back on my plan as of Monday. This is a journey not a destination! No one is perfect! I still have achieved amazing results due to hard work!!

Hi everyone my name is Nancy just wanted to give an update I had gastric bypass on 6/24/15 of this year and as of today down 105 lbs. Best decision ever. Still have more to go but I'm enjoying the journey...below are some pics before and now......

I was standing for a presentation the other day and as I was listening to others speak, I found myself casually looking down at my feet. A few minutes later, it dawned on me -- I CAN SEE MY FEET AGAIN! I just smiled and thought about how totally awesome I already look and feel.

It's been about 3 1/2 years since I decided I had to make changes in my life. I hit 450 pounds and realized I was no longer in control. I dieted on my own for the first 2 years, and did okay. I lost about 120 pounds by simply eating less and walking. Eventually that was no longer enough and I stopped losing, so I started a bariatric program. I had 6 months of supervised weight loss, and having the accountability made me work harder. I lost another 30 pounds in those 6 months. My goal was to be under 300 by my surgery date, November 10, 2014. When I weighed in at the hospital that morning, I was 299.9. Just barely there, but I did it! This week is my 1 year…

I have suffered for PCOS for 20 years with absent periods, hair on my face and body. Routinely going to the docter him prescribing me the pill to induce a period, telling me to lose weight and the cycle went on and on. I was 100lbs over weight & he said if i lost just 10% of my weight my periods would begin. Every body had their reasons for the bariatric surgery mine was to have a period... So off i went on my journey on the 26/2/15 and 9 months later i lost 77lbs and then finally after 20 years i had my first period. No pain just very dark urine followed by a period. I was scared to look when I went to the loo was this a fluke and maybe I had imagined it but it was v…

I am really hoping that by getting this perhaps my legs will look normal. From my knee down is swollen and they barely fit in my pant legs. Does anyone else have this problem? The pic is my, my son, and my husband at six flags hoping next time we go maybe I will be able to get on a ride

Went for my year two follow up since the hip replacements this morning and NYU has a system that tracks all your appointments and test results, etc. in a single system. They use both a photo and a palm print to confirm you in the system and today, the woman at the desk looks long and hard at my photo (taken prior to WLS) and asks me if I'd like a new picture taken. I was pleased as punch and put a big smile on my face as an updated picture is now part of my data profile. Next on the list...my driver's licence and my passport. I always get that hard stare from the male TSA agents...and the comments from the female agents about how I look great now. Not that I mind …

I was wondering is there are people out here that have had the WLS and not had any complications? It just seems that where ever I am...there is always someone talking about the horrible complications they've had or are experiencing. I'm sort of feeling like an island...

So, we just got back from a fantastic holiday, nearly 3 weeks in Cuba. Beautiful country and the Cuban's were very friendly and lovely I have to admit that I was scared before going away, as I only had my sleeve on 23/07/2015 and was worried about getting enough protein/water and food I could eat/tolerate. Especially as the majority of the holiday was driving round the Island and I wasn't sure what we would be eating. I took 24 Protein bars and a bag of Vitamins and off we headed to the sun. I ate clean, well 97% of the time, drank Water and stuck to chicken and fish when I could. I was sick 4 times (ate to much or too fast, or had food that didn't sit well with the …

I've waited years to type that sentence: My surgery date is 12/17/15. I've worked especially hard over the last six months to make it a reality. My insurance company requires a physician-supervised diet, psychological evaluation, and other health workups before approving surgery. At the last minute, they threw me a curveball by asking for more weight history. I scrambled to produce the requested records, but at the same time, they realized I had started my process before that information was a requirement. They approved me the same day. I started my preop diet on 11/25/15. Yes, the day before the U.S. Thanksgiving Day. :-) My surgeon uses Phase 1 of the South Beach Diet…

(New story) http://lasvegassun.com/news/2015/oct/19/what-its-like-to-lose-250-pounds/ (Original story) http://lasvegassun.com/news/2013/jan/28/marathon-runner-mark-noel/ This is a follow up story (the first URL) by the Las Vegas Sun newspaper to a story they originally did a few years ago (the second URL) after I originally lost 250 pounds on my weight loss journey. My son, who was also overweight, went through the same journey and lost 275 pounds. Together, we have lost over 500 pounds or more than the weight of 2.5 average men / 3 average women in the US. With this tool, we now can live happy lives once again. Enjoy my insights from the read.

Surgery on 6/17 and 38 pounds down. I went to my follow up and my labs were excellent. The nurses said they have never seen Protein levels so high in a 3 month post op. The number was double most patients. Everything was All-ok. Just wanted to share. It makes me feel like I've given myself a new beginning and my body is thanking me!!!

Hello. My surgeon said it was ok to add some whey protein/powders to my foods. I'm still not getting enough protein in. He doesn't want me on protein shakes anymore, but said adding some powder is fine. Does anyone have recommendations on protein powders or flavors?? Where is the best place to get them??

I'm coming up on a year after reaching my goal weight and now the whole process seems like a blurr. I feel great and enjoy things I thought I had given up forever. I like to come on here and offer support and usually try to be straight to the point and "tell it like it is" no holds barred. Ya know things like......"it's not about the surgery"......you gotta eat right, exercise. That's what counts. But when I stop to contemplate some of my subconscious thoughts, my deep down realities.....it is sometimes not so all facts and no fantasy. I know the weight loss is Diet and Exercise. And Effort and determination and work, and changing habits and .....y…

after a rocky start this morning, little sleep, battling an annoyingly lingering cough, i decided to step on the scale for a pick-me-up...she did not disappoint. i am now 100 (!!!) pounds down from my oct 22nd starting weight of 284 and a mere 9 pounds away from being 100 pounds down from my june 9th surgery. 91 pounds in (almost) 6 months is frickin awesome!!

At the start of my journey i was 100lbs overweight. 9 months in i have lost 76lbs and on target to reach my goal on feb 26th 2016. This is the best decision i made however.... The hair loss is showing no sign of subsiding... Its really bad to the point where its very noticeable and i can no longer do anything with it. It sticks up like static and the receding hair line is making me look older than my years any advice??

Happy Thanksgiving BP peeps! I hope you enjoy the love, the family, and the friends that this season is all about. Thank you for all the laughs, wisdom, learning, nonsense and tom-foolery that this forum has brought into my world. I appreciate (most of) you!

Hi, today is Thanksgiving Day and I am thinking of how much I have to be grateful for. I had my sleeve surgery done on March 30, 2015 and it has been nothing but good for my health, energy, well being, joy and enjoyment of life again. My loss has stopped and I am maintaining a very good weight for me. There isn't a day that I don't thank God for taking me to the gastric surgery information, resources and ultimate procedure. I was one sad person who felt locked in a body I didn't recognize and was becoming a person I didn't know. Now, I am healthier, happier, nicer, younger looking and embracing life again. The people I have come in contact with along the way who ha…

I had surgery on Sunday. Everything went perfectly. It's been only a few days since surgery and I don't even need pain meds. My feedback... Don't be worried about going to Tijuana. I never felt unsafe. The team at bariatricpal are always with you. They took us shopping downtown. And out to dinner. It's just like any big city. You have to be careful where you go. I never felt like the care I received was 'less than' what I would receive in the U.S. Everyone was very attentive and professional. The recovery room was very nice. It's basically an apartment. And there is English cable. It's nice if you can have someone to travel with you. Someone…

Hi All, Went to the Dr. for my 1 month follow-up. I got on the scale and I was at 349 - at 40 LB loss. As impressive (or not) a feat as that may be, the REAL news is that my first milestone was reached - I can get on a traditional scale and get a reading!!! The next big deal is, of course, to break into the 2's. I am quietly Stoked to be here so fast! The decision to get the Sleeve was the best thing I've done since getting married,

Found a great recipe on Pinterest for Parmesan wonton crackers and they are yummy! No fat, a few carbs and even a little protein. Almost 3 months out and I was missing a little crunch in my life. These are perfect!

Yesterday, I stepped on the scale and was slightly chagrined to find that I was still 1 pound away from a big milestone, as I had been for the past almost 2 weeks. Today I woke up and I lost two pounds overnight, which officially puts me 101 pounds less than my heaviest weight ever, which was around this time last year. It's a surreal feeling, mainly because I still have such a looong way to go, and I can hardly remember what it felt like to be a hundred pounds heavier than this. This time last year, I felt hopeless, worthless, and like I would never feel good about myself again. I was prepared, at age 22, to die young and humiliated because I felt like I had no control o…

So I had the vsg in June and just reached my goal weight. Started at 307 now at 180 . Do the incisions ever go away? What do you eat/do to maintain the weight loss?

Before I say anything, yes I went to my surgeon first, no I haven't been to my PCP since I went NPO and they blew out both my arms trying to get a blood draw and told me I should've drank lots of fluids, 2 side effects, 1 minor, 1 beginning to have a negative effect on me, I live in South Texas BTW. #1 I have a sneezing side effect almost every time I eat, and no it's before I even feel full, my nose gets runny and I sneeze uncontrollably, surgeon and dietician are at a loss since they've only seen it when people were full. #2 this one hurts, before surgery had trouble keeping warm, thought it was my circulation and obesity, was at 388lbs in January, now at 269lbs 10 mo…

October 29th, 2014 I was 29 years old and the heaviest I'd ever been. I had 3 little boys at home who depend on me and had enough. That is where my journey began. On June 1st, 2015 I had gastric bypass surgery. As of September 26th, I've lost 100 lbs since my weigh-in on October 29th, 2014. I went from a size 22/24 & borderline 3XL to a size 16/18 & L (my jeans are always huge so I'm not exactly sure where I am). I get frustrated because I have lost a lot of weight and my jeans size doesn't feel like that's where it should be at but I'm happy with my progress for the most part. I struggled alot post surgery. The most pain was from the gas that was put inside me…

I haven't been posting as much as I want or should, but my work schedule and home have been crazy, I am now down to 269lbs since my surgery on June 10th, at which point I was 342lbs and I started my journey in January at 388lbs, I went through my first stall a month ago and my loss has significantly slowed, I have not let any of this deter me in any way what so ever thanks to many wonderful people on this forum who cautioned me on what happens, I went without my protein or vitamins for a couple of weeks, but was able to purchase a new supply last Sunday, I am posting to share my emotion and happiness that occurred on Wednesday, I was off from work as a thank you and took…

Highest weight was: 250+ Lowest weight post-op: 140 Current weight: 150/155 (fluctuates) Even though I'm up 10-15 pounds, it is pretty much muscle because I'm still the same size (4/6 or 27 waist). I educated myself and cleaned up my diet. I still eat the occasional "dirty" food, but I am big on clean eating. I did a lot of cardio the first year and a half, but then started to focus more on the body building. Instead of food being my obsession, the gym has become my obsession (not literally, but y'all know what I mean). I don't use an excuse not to work out. I make time and make it a necessity and a priority, like my job. It is a non-negotiable--tired or not. I have 4…

So, I posted a couple of weeks about about finally feeling confident enough to get some boudoir photos taken as a surprise for my hubby to thank him for his amazing support through this entire journey that I've been on. He's been amazing. Anyway, never in a MILLION years would I have imagined that I would have enough confidence, courage, whatever you want to call it to (a) get these pictures taken in the first place, and ( share them with complete strangers. But, I figured if someone reads this and sees them and it encourages them to make a change for the better in their health, then why not!!! And you know what?? I'm freaking proud of my hard work!! lol...... SO, I'm…

Greetings, bandsters! I have lost 43 pounds and four inches off my waist and hips. I had my band over a year ago. Before Band (BB), I had been diagnosed with being "resistant to weight loss" . Is that even a thing? Well, I worked really hard, but it wasn't enough. All the doctors I went to said some people are just like that. So when I took matters into my own hands and saw Dr. Ren, she said that it would be slow and that a reasonable goal would be 165 (down from the 209 I was!). Well, here I am, 166 and thrilled every day! I will keep at it because, well, who knows? I am just so pleased with the whole experience, except maybe the barfing. And then the post ba…

Its been an amazing journey so far. My decision to have this surgery did not come lightly and I did lots of research and thinking before deciding it was a good fit for me. I have had many triumphs and victories throughout my 7 months since surgery, but reaching my 100 lb weight loss was the biggest (pun intended) for me! When I stepped on the scale and saw my 100# I cried. Happy tears of course. I am proud of my journey and cant wait to see what more this wonderful life changing surgery has for me in the future! I still have a ways to go, but excited to get there. The photo I attached is from my monthly photos that I take in the same spot in my house. The first photo was…

I've got my 6 month checkup appointment tomorrow, and I've just lost 61 pounds as of today. So that is roughly 10 pounds down each month. Compared to most sleevers, that's pretty darn slow. (and I'm just a few pounds away from my halfway point - woohoo!) I couldn't be happier, tho. Every stall has taught me something. I look at my eating - has it increased in sugar or refined carbs? Need to up the Protein? Activity level sort of crappy? Maybe I need to add in something, or maybe I haven't done anything in a week and just need to get off my butt and go for a walk... and if I make changes, within another week I see results. Not super crazy awesome weight loss... but I s…

I went to see my doctor yesterday for my one year appointment. It went exceptionally well. Before I left my doctor and his PA explained to me that they have support group meetings on Tuesday nights. They stated that they had several individuals that were still struggling both physically and mentally with the surgery. They have both pre op and post op patients that attend. They asked me if I would be willing to lead the groups and talk about my success and that the goal is attainable if you allow it to be. Now here is my dilemma. I was honored they felt I could help. But me, who has been successful in my journey with lots of hard work, going into a group with st…
