Had a very successful weekend this past week. First of all me, my husband and some friends went out of town to a steampunk festival and not only did i dress up but I entered a cosplay competition. I knew i wouldn't win but felt brave enough to go strut my stuff, something I would not have done 97lbs ago. Secondly in July me and my husband went on an alaskan cruise and bought hiking boots. We went on a hike before the trip and hiked through the rain forest in alaska (amazing!) and found that we really enjoyed it. So we went to a hiking trail yesterday. For some reason we kept thinking the trail was 3 miles. So we were hiking and hiking and hiking and saw mile marker…

Hi everyone, I am in the pre surgery, looking at a surgery date of end of November/beginning of December. But I was hoping to hear from sleevers who were/are diabetics and how your diabetes has changed since surgery, and if you wish you had done RNY instead. I'm a type 2 diabetic, horrible blood sugars and on multiple medications (insulin, victoza, amyral, metformin and invokana). So I am primarily looking at surgery for blood sugar control help. I'm 5'10" and 250. Weight loss will be a bonus but I'm trying trying to decide which surgery is better for blood sugar control. My endocrinologist suggested sleeve surgery but the surgeon thinks RNY. I'd be so greatful to he…

My surgeon recommends RNY, due to my bmi over 50. However I carry a lot of abdomen weight and if I don't lose enough pre_op he advised if he feels while mid_surgery that's it's safer for sleeve, he will do that instead. And I have to sign off that I trust his judgement call in operating room. I'm scared I won't lose enough and this may be my outcome even tho I feel I'll be more successful with RNY vs. SLeeve. Anyone else have this or have encouragement that someone of bmi over 50 can still expect good weight loss from sleeve?

So after 22 months, losing 155 pounds, reaching my "dream goal" weight of 125 pounds and healing from my tummy tuck and panniculectomy, I took some before/after pics that I feel really embody the new me. It's been such an amazing journey, and I can honestly say that the change has been from the inside out, thanks to some hard emotional work with my therapist, dealing with the "eating issues" that really were not about food at all. This journey has been absolutely amazing, and while the recovery from the TT was WAY harder than I expected, I wouldn't change any of it for the world. I Think my journey is complete now for the most part. I am waiting on insurance approv…

Hi everyone! It's been quite a long time since I've posted in this forum. I see some old familiar faces still posting and commenting. Just to catch up, I was banded December of 2013. Highest weight 295. I reached my goal of 165 in February of 2015. I've been mostly maintaining since then. I've gained about 5 pounds recently and it's something I need to work on. Lifetime success is not letting it get out of control, right? Since my band, I discovered a love of fitness and running. I ran a half marathon last April on the day before my 42nd birthday. This August,I completed a Sprint Triathlon! Just want to say, I love my band and I am loving having my life back. I hop…

I am officially under a BMI of 40 11 months after my band. I have gone from 315 pre surgery to 246. I have been in a stall but went back for a fill and seem to be back on track

Went to see surgeon today for 6 week check up. I am on stage 5 foods, sooo happy. Lost 7 pounds in 4 weeks. A little disappointed but she assures me its OK, that the sleeve is a slow steady tool rather than a drop fast tool. Every thing was good and I am cleared for exercise. Even got a script for obese physical therapy. Private trainer. Water exercise training program. Paid for by my insurance.. So it was a good day...

I cannot express how happy I am today. We went on a 7 day cruise to Alaska and I did not even gain one lb. First time in my life that I did not pack on at least 10 lbs while on vacation. A Cruise ship as you know has tons of food everywhere, but my band kept me in check. I ate a good bit of fish and some veggies. Did not do the Pasta or pizza . I did eat some frozen yogurt and one night I had lobster ravioli which was really light and delicious but couldn't eat the whole portion. I even drank some wine with dinner. One of the best things was riding horses in Skagway and watching whales in Juneau. I walked all over the ship everyday I explored . My niece and her husb…

Weight Loss Surgery was such an out of the blue decision for me -- I'm not even sure exactly how it came about. We live in the boonies, I don't watch TV, and I didn't know any one else with a LapBand (or any other WLS). I am kind of a health food type and had never been an overnight patient in the hospital before. I guess I heard that a cousin's doctor had recommended this for him and so I started digging into the research. Almost right away I realized I was the perfect candidate. I think what this means is that I was READY. I had spent two decades dieting and working every weight loss angle under the sun, yet I always put the weight back on again plus a little more…

Hi all! I am set to be sleeved on September 18th. I'm so excited and nervous! I was wondering what I could expect, weight-loss wise. My surgeon said at about 6 months out, I would be down roughly 80 pounds, but I wanted to get a snapshot of what other people's experiences have been. For reference. I'm, 33, F, 5'4 and my starting weight is 265. Thanks, everyone! :-)

Hi. Just wondering if there is a time where weight loss will be a little faster? I'm down 20 pounds from July 27th (my surgery date). Is that good/bad? I've been exercising the best I can. I do videos at home, now that the humidity is gone, I'm going to start walking. Still getting days where I feel weak.

I'm one week out from surgery, had such nausea trying to drink my fluids, when I finally tried ice chips. I can get my fluids down when I suck on ice chips, of course they melt before I swallow. Does anyone one know if that's a big no, no. I was told no extreme temperatures but I consider getting my fluids in more important! Any thoughts?

I went to a "reunion" of sorts - people who I worked with on a very big project about 15-18 years ago. I was a "young woman" in my 30s then, but due to obesity aged beyond my years. Now, we are all a little older, a little mellower and for me ALOT thinner. I have been at goal since Feb 2013 so most people hardly remember what I looked like before - in fact somebody at the party mentioned that (I still work with her so she has seen me alot). It was uncomfortable at times to get all the remarks, and I felt like my former 9retired) boss was uncomfortable around me (happened last time i saw him too, shortly after getting to goal). Since so many people post about being…

Yesterday I forgot to bring my lunch to work, thought I would skip it, but felt too hungry and ate a muffin for the first time after surgery, after 1-2 hours started to feel dizzy and shaky. Wonder if it is dumping, I did not have any symptoms before, though this is the first time I ate something that full of sugar.

I am in the process of trying to find a shake that I like. I have never liked chocolate milk or milk for that matter. I am waiting for my surgery date and will need to do my preop diet which includes shakes, then I need them after my surgery. So far I have tried premier protein (strawberry cream) I can only drink about half before it makes me want to barf. jay Robb (strawberry flavor) is just yucky. I got the unjury in sorbet and chicken soup flavor I just haven't tried it yet. I need something that will taste fruity. Can I add frozen or fresh fruits to my shake? Won't that increase the sugar and calories? HELP? Any advice is much appreciated.

Had a checkup with my Primary Physician on Monday. He was extremely pleased with my lab report. A1C 5.1, cholesterol 184, blood pressure 120/76. He asked me if I felt my weight loss surgery was worth it.. I told him absolutely. He agreed. He said at my age and the weight I was prior to my surgery he worried that I might have a stroke or have some really bad issues with diabetes. So, in this post I want to tell everyone that no matter what you do to improve your health, it is so important to take control. I personally chose lapband because I didn't want to undergo a major surgical procedure at this stage of my life. I will be grateful to my surgeon forever. He has been…

Hello, I am 10 weeks post op and have lost 49.6 pounds, which is approximately half of my total weight loss goal. I know things will slow down extremely in the very near future, but what was your weight loss goal and how long did it take to obtain it?

I cheated at work again and went in the exam room and weighed myself( I'm supposed to wait til appt on Sept 11) my goal was to hit 299 lbs by the end of August, well I was at 300lbs and my shoes weigh exactly 1lb, so I'm at 299lbs!!!!!!!! First milestone complete, I started in January at 388lbs, on surgery day June 10th, I was 346, so this is an awesome accomplishment for me, and I was emotional because I haven't been under 300lbs in 31years, I posted to my friends on FB but wanted to post on this forum since it has been a big part of my journey, so I apologize, and even started ahead of schedule on next milestones, 1. Hit 250lbs 2. Arm curl 80lbs @ 5 reps( I am at 60lb…

So I started my weight loss journey a little over a year ago now. I first met my surgeon in May of 2014. I had gastric Sleeve surgery Feb 25th 2015. Max weight was 327 lbs.. today I hit 227:) It feels really great to have dropped that much weight. I still have about 30 lbs to go but I know I will get there in a few more months. For the folks out there considering surgery.. do it. It is awesome! But, don't under estimate the follow through and will power you will need to have following surgery. I would say within 4 weeks after surgery I could have eaten anything I liked (of course in small quantities at a time). If you aren't careful you can easily have slow to no weight l…

Well folks Today it happened. This morning i weighed in at 199.6 , i even took a picture of the scale reading that. The emotions were powerful but amazingly fulfilling. Id like to thank everyone here who has helped, cajoled, encouraged or offered advice , for what you have done to help me get to this point. Through surgery, nutrition, exercise and help from my friends, family, and you all I have reached this goal. Now onward to my final goal. Thank you all again!

It's been almost 9 months since my lap band surgery. Lots of GREAT days, a handful of what I like to call "learning experiences". I have learned which foods go down and which foods, even when I chew them into liquid (Pallisade Peaches - absolutely delicious) just won't pass through. I've gotten better at respecting that muscle burns fat and you need more muscle while you're losing weight if you want to KEEP losing weight. I've learned that sizes and numbers don't make me happy but a 'come hither look' from across a room from my husband of 29 years DOES make me swoon!!! And I've learned that this is a life long journey and there is no prize for who makes it to the fin…

Tomorrow marks 10 months since I was banded at SlimBand in Toronto. It was the BEST decision of my life. I am down 93 lbs since my pre-op diet started on August 20. I have no regrets. I have 14 lbs to go to reach my goal, and I plan to reach it by the one year anniversary date which is Sept. 4. I would love to help others to achieve success as well. Please do not hesitate to ask me questions.

My story is a long one, but if you want to read it on my blog chicken, eggs, repeat) I have lost 10 lbs of that. I have not been feeling myself lately. I hate the way I look and am terrified of gaining weight back. I seem to have gained it all right in my abdominal region, which makes it so many things do not fit correctly at all. My confidence is low, and I am so sick of dieting I could harpoon something. I know the end result will be worth it, and I need to go back in and get a fill, but I am struggling so hard right now. I would do anything to get down past 160 (my lowest) and hit 150 (my original pre-op goal) and I want to be 140 (over the moon, never goi…

Yesterday was my 3 month surgery anniversary. Overall I'm happy with the results so far - down 55 lbs and 2-3 sizes. ???? The scale tells me I've lost weight, and so do my clothes, but when I look in the mirror I still see the same old, pre-op me most of the time. Weird.

5'4 sw 289 cw 181 RNY 11/18/2014 I know that you are expected to lose about 80% of your excess weight. I also heard that you continue to lose up to 18 months post op. I am about 9 months post op and now am at 181, that's what my surgeon expected my to lose total. What confuses me is.. Will I continue to lose weight? Or is this the 80% and that's it? I know everyone is different but what is typical? My personal goal was 160 and hoped for 140. What are your thoughts? Did you just stop losing at a certain point or did you have to up your calories to go into maintaince?
