  1. Started by JPacella,

I had my sleeve on March 3 at Northwestern in Chicago and am down 60 pounds already (357 to 297). This surgery has done wonders and I've had such an easy time of it I kick myself for not doing it sooner. My post-op pain was minimal, I had no problems sticking to the post-op diet phase changes, I've hadn't had any cravings or junk food slip ups yet. My energy level has been remarkable, I'm walking around 6 miles every day (I walk to/from work, I walk during my morning break, during lunch , afternoon break). It is starting to get to be a bit old, so I'm going to start step aerobics next week to ratchet up the intensity. I was diagnosed prediabetic a few months before…

  2. Started by Bob B,

I was sleeved on 12/16/14 at the Khalili Surgical Center in Los Angeles. Today, exactly five months to the day, I weighed myself and was thrilled to see that I have hit the "100 pound loss" mark, way ahead of schedule. Since the surgery, I have taken up light jogging (thanks, C25K app!), and COMPLETELY changed the way I eat and drink. Not a drop of alcohol since the surgery (I was an "every night" drinker), not a taste of sugar, and not a miligram of caffeine. Other than family and my wife, I haven't told anyone that I had the surgery. I'm sure people must be wondering, but the truth is that the weight loss has come from my complete 180 degree lifestyle change more…

  3. Started at 265. Sleeved at 254. Hit my goal of 154 after 7 1/2 months. And at 9 months post-op, I just hit my stretch goal of 148 this morning. My only remaining weight-loss goal now is to "touch" 145. Don't need to stay there, but 120 pounds down is a nice round number. And then comes the biggest (and hardest) goal of all..... Remain below 150 – forever! Can I do it? I definitely know how to lose the weight, the question is, do I know how to keep it off? That remains to be seen, but I've developed some strategies that seem to be working so far. I have to say, though, that aside from the first two weeks after surgery, this entire journey has been a blast! I've…

So the past few weeks have been super busy so i haven't checked it as often as i should. That being said...i missed posting my entrance into one-derland. I am now well into it and feeling great...but doesn't that just lead to other issues...lol...For the first time in years....i would like to fully enjoy summer. That being said...wondering what you all lthink of wraps? Has anyone done them. I can get four of them for about $60 I think and I am wondering if anyone has used them? If so did it help with the loose skin on arms and thighs? It would be great to wear a tank top or pretty halter this summer.

Hi all, The one thing I was taught as a child was never to waste food and always finish what was on my plate. (Maybe that got me where I was with my weight who knows ) I had my surgery in September as as time has gone on and the band has been adjusted I find almost impossible to eat more than a few mouthfuls, which is a good thing. It does however play on my conscience and I fight with myself to have one more mouthful so as not to waste. You all know what happens then lol. Eating at home is fine, but when I eat out I feel awful leaving the food. I am not asking for advice, I have already resulted to sharing my daughters meal when we eat out. I guess I just w…

Hi. I have not had weight loss surgery yet but I've had a consultation with a bariatric surgeon and I am considering it. I was wondering what types of lifestyle changes one has to make post-recovery. I'm investigation Lap Band surgery as well but this type of surgery seems to require significant changes in lifestyle post recovery. Any insights you could offer would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

  10. Had my surgery on April 30 and within the first 1 week got rid of diabetes, the first success/ Gave up multiple tablets and insulin shots that had kept me going for over 4 years. Small issues with keeping fluids down. Protein with any form of sugar makes me throw up so switching to unflavoured ones. Icy cold Water is so soothing though have to be careful not to have too much. Where I live the Calcium, Vitamin and Iron tablets are all large sized, am seeking help on chewable forms of these. Any suggestions please. I am unable to swallow the pills with water, feel as if its choking me. Overall the best decision I ever made. Lost about 14 kgs (30 lbs) and need some ne…

I started on a journey to health after seeing myself in pictures of my son's wedding. Between health issues and lack of energy I had nearly given up and accepted life was just going to be as it was. And then I decided NO. It will not be luke that. Life can be so much more. I began slowly losing the weight. Watching what I ate. Mixing all the facts I've learned over the years from dieting. I lost about 20 lbs on my own. Not quite what I had hoped for. Lol I decided to take the plunge and get serious so I could play with my grandbabies. Get on the floor (and know I could get back up without assistance.)???? I was sleeved on 2/27/15. Pre surgery from highest weight I lost…

  14. Just some random thoughts... So I'm excited and stressed... with excitement! After searching for months I was finally offered a new position in my home state, Massachusetts! My last day at my job will be next Wednesday on 5/20/2015 and then I hit the road shortly after. I'm still not sure of which will be leaving but I at least want to be in Boston by Memorial Day. In my opinion, there is no point in prolonging my time in Colorado! I can't wait to get back to the East Coast and to city life again! But I'll have to find a Bariatric support group and follow-up doctor in the area (which should not be difficult at all). So if you have any suggestions, please feel free to …

  15. After the first 4 days that were not fun, things turned around. Over the last 3 weeks, I have lost 18% of my fat. Everything seems to be working as expected. No pain. Taking a Zantac meds and it is helping me so much. I did find out that I screwed up my meal plans. Before surgery, I was allowed shakes, yogurt, oatmeal, Jello, ricotta cheese in my liquid phase. I only had 1 day of clear liquids before surgery. So when I came home on day 2, I had a yogurt. 2-3 small spoons. I have been eating 200 - 400 calories ever since. Today I found out that was a no-no. But he said it didn't hurt me. He said it is mostly about tolerance. And if I was tolerating it fine then I could …

  18. There was a sign posted by the scale in a doctor's office that read... "This scale can only give you a numeric reflection of your relationship with gravity. That's it. It cannot measure character, beauty, talent, purpose, personality, strength or love." Wow! I think this is a powerful message reminding us that the scale is just a number that we can use to track our progress, and not something we should use to measure our self-worth on a daily basis.

My weight loss attempts in the past have always worked for a time and then the weight would creep back. I cannot believe that I have lost 100 pounds since last June! I have seen some people at my son's baseball games that I haven't seen in the last year and they can't believe my transformation. It's nice to hear compliments from the moms, but it's also nice to hear some from the dads! That equals 3.5 hours of spinning and 30 minutes of planking. Mind over body!! I also made good food decisions with an egg white omelet, banana with Peanut Butter, turkey breast... Don't give up on yourself.

I was a little surprised at her directness but realized as a pharmacist, she was just getting to point of her observation and not thinking about how it sounded. For whatever reason, this was a first for me...having a 'medical professional' question my weight loss who wasn't directly seeing me as a patient. Ordering a bunch off of Lane Bryant, Avenue and Lands End. I also bought one top at Target. Well I found a top and bottom and that will work for me. Never in my wildest dreams would I see myself running and running 14 min miles. Has anyone been hearing that they have lost enough weight?

Well, today I am 5 years post op and the difference between my old life and my new life are very different. So far I have lost 135 lbs, I weigh 165 down from 300. I finally have a BMI of less than 25. I have learned a lot over the last 5 years. I lost a lot of my weight in the first 6 mos but i have continued to lose slowly after that. These are the things that helped me be successful. 1. I knew I was a food addict and I treated the weeks after my surgery like detox. I had to clear my system of the toxic foods I was eating and start over again. I periodically juice for a week or two when I know I am backsliding. I knew I wouldn't feel good those first few weeks a…

I celebrated at the top of Machu Picchu, which involved 16,000 steps and 208 flights of stairs (presumably 104 up and 104 down). This was something I could never ever in a million years done before surgery gave me back my life. I am just 3.5 months post-RNY and have never been so thankful for anything in my life.

Hey everyone. Just wanted to ask a quick question. It's been a bit over a year since I had my surgery. I have lost 143lbs and now I'm down to that last little bit. I want to lose another 20 to have my BMI be in the normal range. Im, of course, having trouble. I talked with the dietician at the docs office and she said I need to be eating 950-1000 calories. I workout quite a bit and hard. So when I told my trainer and therapist they both said that was crazy. Tell me, with exercise, how many calories do you all eat. Counting calories helps keep me in control. I already feel tired so if I lower the calories too much will i be losing more energy. HELP! Thanks.

I didn't have to worry about not keeping up when walking from place to place. Most the time I was the one least winded after hiking up the hill! I fit in all the rides at Busch Gardens (with room to spare). And Iost 1.5 lbs while on vacation and really didn't eat that great just didn't snack any and got my Water in. Got to say the sleeve is the best thing I have ever did for myself.

  50. This is a question about my changing relationship with my mother,me at 29.. her at 52 My mother has been a wonderful mother to me growing up. There is no exaggeration there. However... as I have gotten older, I have been resentful of my parents for very dysfunctional eating habits that they evolved partly together. My mother would always make our fun surrounded by food, generally with no concern about the unhealthiness of it.
