I've been off the site a while... Busy living and loving life. I had surgery June 9, 2014. My goal was to lose 70 pounds. I hit that at 5-1/2 months out. I never dreamed I could even hit it, but I followed the food plan, worked out 4-5 times a week, walked all over my town and here I am now, 9 pounds lower than my goal. I went from a size 16/18 jean to a 4 (baggy now -- think I'm going to have to go find some 2's). My brain is still trying to catch up with the weight loss. When I buy clothes I struggle with picking up that small shirt or medium, take both in the dressing room and almost always walk out with the small. I lost over 60 inches between my bust, waist, …

Just packed up all my oversized towels to bring down to Florida to use on the chaise lounges down at the pool. I replaced them all with 'regular' bath towels because the oversized ones are way too big for me. I can wrap it around me almost twice and I can't tuck it in because it's too heavy now.. Never thought I'd have to replace my towels of all things...

Had a another good day for the most part, Met my food goals and most of my exercise goals. Was able to increase my morning ride to 7 minutes and my evening ride to 3 minutes. Not a world beater but better than when I started. I ran into my first snag in behavioral thinking though. I'm not sure if it's my problem or the problem of others. My wife's birthday is coming up and one of her friends invited us to have dinner at a restaurant that is one of those places that is a gorge feast. I declined and tried to explain that even though this would be pre op, I still wanted to remain true to my diet. This led to a heated discussion about how I needed to realize that I couldn't…

Hey everyone, So Im so excited I got the call yesterday for the date. I got next week to visit with my surgeon to start my pre-op diet. I have read so much, I know no amount of prepping will really get me prepared but Im ready. I enjoy exercising.. I cant wait to get back to it. Have any of you took measurement before ? to compare. I used to scale everyday then switched to measurements when I didnt like the scale. Hoping I have over success and balance. Dr's office said my goal weight should be 168-170.. Im currently 250.. I already know I may lose alot of my women figure hoping I can preserve some with squats and in house exercising. My family is supporting me and…

  7. I am almost two months out from my sleeve, and I have to admit that I am both elated and confused. In all of my previous weight loss programs, the scale generally would reflect weight loss. But not this time. For example, right now I'm in an almost one-month stall at around 195 pounds. However, I continue to shrink, and yesterday put on some size 14 pants that fit like a glove. This does not seem physically possible. In the past, I had to get down to around 175 before I was a size 14, but 195?! Weird. I'm not complaining, mind you. The skin on my face, upper arms, and belly is shrinking during this stall, and I even see the rear of my cheekbones near my ears. (Long t…

I was at 275. I wanted to get down to 200. At 52, it was not easy. I got down to 185-190. I have maintained that loss. I am still hovering around 188. I still take in a ton of Protein, a ton of Water and next to zero carbs. And I walk 5 miles every day. It CAN be done.......I am 54 and my medical lab work has me as healthy as I was at 30.

  12. Today I reached my ultimate fantasy weight -- 122 pounds. (Well the scale actually said 121 lbs. but I know that when I weigh again tomorrow it will be up to 122 as that has been my pattern for the last few months.) My BMI is now in the mid-range of healthy for my height. I now have to buckle down and apply all of the lessons I have learned over the past year to maintain this weight. I know that if I lose focus, I will gain. That has been my experience in the past. I would tell myself that no one can be on a diet forever. But in the past year, I have been rethinking this. I have observed my thin friends. They aren’t on a diet forever, but they don’t eat whatever they wa…

I am so excited. We are headed to Hawaii on Friday with my hubby, son and granddaughter. We are taking a seven day cruise. I am 5 sizes smaller than my last vacation which was in August. That was the vacation where I could not keep up with my family and they would not go do things without me. I felt so terrible that I could barely walk off the cruise ship in to town and could maybe make in an hour, two at the most. By the end of that trip I was exhausted, had swollen ankles and could barely make it home. Now, I can RUN up the stairs, walk for miles and have more energy than I have in the last 20 years! 20. Last night the single most embarrassing thing to happen to me so far on this WLS roller coaster occurred, but I can't stop laughing about it. I hope you enjoy, commiserate, and can share your own stories of mixed embarrassment/hilarity for catharsis' sake. I asked my wife to take weekly photos of me in only boxers on the day I started my pre-op diet, Jan 22 so I could have a consistent photo, with even time intervals, in the same spot with the same pose/clothes for the duration of weight loss. I'd like to be able to accurately point to where I was on each step of the journey 5 years from now, not to mention compile a stop-motion-style video clip that accurately show…

Well...........I made it. Finally reached my original goal. And it's a good one too, as the bod seems to be pretty much at a neutral point. It's really tough to lose any more weight and it doesn't take much neglect to result in an increase in weight either. Funny thing is, it's kind of anti-climatic. I have enjoyed the challenge and the effort. Proving I can do it. I'm not ready to be done. So I think I'll add in another five pounds to lose to give me a little leeway. Then, I'm gonna set a goal of proving to myself I can maintain the weight without gaining for a year....then two. Yeah.....that's the ticket........... Guess you guys are st…

Before: July 2013 (surgery in November 2013) at approximately 325 pounds. After: December 2014 at about 157 pounds. I'd still like to lose another 20, but at this point I'm not going to push for it. Last time I was this weight was maybe 6th grade.

Less than two months out from my sleeve gastrectomy surgery, and yesterday, at the gym I weighed myself and saw that not only have I lost 50 lbs, but I am below 300lbs for the first time in my adult life! The last few days have been the first times that people have started saying, "Hey man, you losing some weight?" or "Bob, you been working out?" It took 50 lbs for people to start noticing, but now the weight loss is finally making a difference. None of my clothes fit: I wore the tux from my wedding (8 years ago) to an event the other night, and it was FALLING off. I've bought some second-hand clothes to get me through the work weeks without spending a million bucks. …

So of course with you seeing yourself everyday, you don't see the results like others do. I could see the scale moving but I couldn't see the weight gone. Well I decided just for giggles to put on a shirt I used to wear. Loved this shirt and the last time i put it on it was way tight around the belly and made me feel horrible. This was of course pre surgery. Well on it goes and not only does it fit, but it's a bit loose. Now I see it, now I understand and now I can start really acknowledging that not only did I do this, but it is working and it is the best decision I could make. Now all i need is to go back to the doctor for labs so I can see on paper that stopping…

I am doing everything I have been told to do by the doctor to be successful but the numbers are stuck. I have tried eating more on some days to see if it will jump start it. But nothing. I've had a fun incredible journey since October when I was sleeved. Today has been a nice, boring lazy Sunday. I cleaned out my closet and got rid of all my clothes that are too big. I found brand new shirts, pants, shorts etc that I had never worn. They were 1 and 2 x and up to a size 38 waist. I ended up having three huge garbage bags full of clothes I can't wear any longer due to size. I never thought the day would come when I couldn't fit into my XLT shirts. Now they look like a blanket on me. So that being said, if your starting the journey, put this on your list. It'll make you realize how much progress you have made. As of this morning I'm down a…

Quite a while back I lost an inch somewhere -- I went from 5'7" down to 5'6". At my last check-up I had gained back half an inch and recently I just got my other half back. Because of my shape, I just wasn't standing as tall as I once did. Now I can throw my shoulders back and stand against the wall with my full height, all 5'7" of me. There's so much less in the way not only for standing up straight but for bending and folding, curling up, etc. Meanwhile I have lost nine inches off of my waist alone. No more Mrs. Winnie-the-Pooh. These non-scale victories -- NSVs -- make me so happy!

I hit 180 this morning and am pretty over the moon about that. Perspective is such an interesting thing, because even though it's a long time ago I clearly recall the horror of that number on the scale when I was first putting on serious weight. As I tried to get those pounds off I went over time from 180 into the nineties and then over the two hundred mark. I remember the shame of that 203 weigh-in and all the feelings it brought up for me. I coiled myself tighter inside then, shrunk my "self" while my physical body was expanding. I went all the way up to 252 feeling like such a failure all the while. Now I feel at peace with my body and 180 feels fabulous. Four…

My body would hurt and I could not fit any shoes with the exception of loafers. I would plan my my whole day around eating. I would plot how would wake up early just to stop by Dunkin Donuts. Horror upon horrors I had to video-conference today for a new job. Eeek! Not only do I have telephone anxiety (conference calls were a major food trigger for me prior to my band) but being seen on camera? Oh. My. God. There are hardly any photographs of me in our family albums and certainly no video. I've always been too ashamed of my weight and how I looked. So today, ta-da! I was fine. Not that I wasn't a nervous wreck -- I still felt anxious but I didn't need food to tamp down the feelings (thank you, Band, for the dimmed appetite). I set the equipment up ahead of time and chose my outfit carefully, positioned the camera just right with all my notes just above…
