I have about 350lbs to 300 to loose until I'm at a goal weight (200-150lbs). I was wondering who had a larger bmi and how quickly they lost it. My friend who had surgery lost a good amount of hers quickly then plateaued but she had less than 100lbs to loose so I feel like I can't really compare her journey.

  6. I think the first year of being sleeved wakes your brain up! I know it did for me and I read posts on Bariatric Pal about how after surgery people start realizing everything they have missed! Sometimes you need an intermission in your life to find your mission! And going through a physical change can really reset your drive for life! Now at three years post op I am living the life of a normal person! Yes, I have to watch things a bit, but now if I gain a few lbs, wow, I can really feel it and I immediately take action!!! How or how did I carry 80 extra lbs! I can hardly remember that fat person....I have moved on! I wrote every Sunday for the first year of my surger…

I am now obsessed with blue jeans! Specifically J Crew's Vintage Matchstick jeans....the make my butt look good and DONT have a ton of stretch. I am also obsessed with shopping for jeans....and dresses and button down shirts and tucking in those button down shirts! 7 months ago I only had Old Navy super stretchy "sweetheart" jeans...they were cheap and kind of fit (they were stretched to maxim capacity!), I didn't even try button down shirts and you can forget about ever tucking anything in! I never knew how much fun clothes could be! Especially considering how much I hated them before! Do y'all have any new, unexpected obsessions after wls?

Very excited that I have reached the 100 lb. mark. Still would like to loose about 40 more lbs. But am super happy with the decision to have this surgery. I am 7 months out and feel soooooo good!!! The only problem I have is having to buy clothes which now that I am not wearing plus size clothes isn't so bad.

I had a pair of jeans that were super cute. I had never worn them before. I tried them on last week and they fit! Well I was finally able to wear jeans today to work (casual Friday). I did not even get through the day before they were falling off. Could not even wear them to dinner so I pulled out a pair I had tried last week that didn't fit....they fit. Success, but I really didn't think I would change sizes that quickly!

This is why I did WLS. My daughter hasn't seen me since August, which was one pre-op diet and one VSG ago. I went into the airport to pick her up today, rather then just picking her up at the curb. I wanted her to see the results as a surprise so I stood back when she came out. She looked my way several times and started to walk away. At that point I started to walk toward her. We made eye contact and her eyes just got bigger and all she could say was "wow!" She said she her brain was in conflict. She thought it looked like me, but it just looked wrong. As we walked to the car I asked her how she felt. She said you look like a normal weight person but with a li…

I see so many successful stories of people losing even 50-100 lbs in the firs 6 months. Now since my surgery date is in December I want to know How you did it ? what routine did you do or try to do that you would recommend for us to do?? I know lots of people say exercise and try to get the Protein down but since so many of you have gone through and have had lots of success I would like your opinion or just describe what you felt worked for you. Can't wait to see some of the replies.

After 11 months it's hard to switch gears as losing weight has become such a major focus of my life. But I'm grateful to be at this point and intend to work hard at successfully maintaining.

You hear about couch to 5k but I need a smaller step. It is wonderful to hear about the Zumba classes and 10k runs but the first steps are important. I am trying for 10,000 steps a day. Not making it every day. A long work day in the office leaves me with a dark and cold evening. I am making it to the gym 3 times a week and trying to move more. I want to express to everyone that everything you do for your health is good!

I’m officially 40 pounds down. I started at 260 pounds 8 months ago and today I am 220. I had to think back on the last time I was 220 pounds. I believe it has been 13 years since I have been this weight. I am looking forward to moving into the 2-teens and then, next stop, wonderland. This journey is by no means easy but for me, it’s been worth it. : )

This past Sunday I officially completed a two-year old goal to run a half-marathon. It still feels a bit surreal. I would say that I can't believe it, but everytime I try to walk down a flight of stairs I am VERY aware that my muscles put in 13.1 miles. :smile1: My husband and I both ran the marathon. Although he and I have been training together with a local running group since July his knee has been causing a lot of concern and we weren't sure if he'd be able to follow through with the race. While I'm proud of my accomplishment, I am in awe of him. He put in 13.1 miles on a blown knee. That's strength. My bestie, Dana, came into town to watch us run (and wrangle our…

How are you doing? How much have you lost in 4 months? Please share your story with me. I get so frustrated that I haven't lost more then 47 lbs., yet I am proud of myself. Started a size 18/20 and now down to a size 12. Hope to hear back from others in my situation. Thanks!

  22. Hello all, I recently logged back in after a two-year hiatus to ask some plastics-related questions and figured I might as well post an update after seeing a few familiar faces. I am not going to answer any questions about my surgeon, details of my post-op recovery, post-op diet, etc, since I think this information is readily available from other posters who are less far out from their operations. When I first joined here, there was a dearth of VSG veterans on the forums, so few of us had any idea what to expect after the honeymoon period is over. I am hoping my post will help people wondering about the long term. PLEASE DO NOT PM ME WITH QUESTIONS. I am happy to respo…

What's up you guys I will be 2 years post op in February and being sleeved is great. My sleeve has never given me any problems. Though I can eat more now than I could 6 months after surgery (which is normal) I still can't eat a full or regular size plate of anything. Everything is holding up. My confidence has been at an all time high. One thing they really don't prepare you for is during your pre op testing and therapy is how to deal with all the new attention you get. Whether good or bad depending on how you handle this it can and will be sometimes overwhelming. That may be the only not so good thing though. Other than that the skinny life is great. One more thing? Wh…

Now for the pics - First of course is my before pic - 377 pounds of misery. 180 pounds strong and fit - ready to take on my first 5k. Thats me on the top - at 377 pounds definitely would not have made it. Finished the 5k - got the medal - and added my first 5k to my bucket list. Looking forward to many future adventures in life with my new healthy body!

Today, a year ago I made the decision to get my life back. 365 days ago, I had the Lap Band Surgery. Looking back to November 18, 2013. I was anxious, excited and at the same time scared. Not knowing what to expect. But I came to realize, that you have to take it day by day, it's not an overnight fix, it requires a lot of work of my part to make this tool work, just because I had a WLS doesn't mean that my weigh will come off that easy. I had my ups and downs, but I don't regret at all having this surgery. I still have a way to go, but the good thing is that I'm not near my starting point, I'm moving forward towards my goal. Even though I don't know when I will get th…

Tinker Bell was adopted by us she is a pit bull bulldog mix. She was abandoned and starved to death and infested with fleas and mites. Her ribs were still showing after being in the shelter for four months so she was very emaciated when she was found. She had never been potty trained and had some very bad behaviors such as separation anxiety and would chew my stuff up so I had to crate train her. Our Lab Jake loves her and they play together. I wanted him to have a play mate because he was getting over weight and walking just wasn't enough. People think that pit bulls are so horrible but I can tell you this little girl stole my heart. 100 just feels arbitrary after all the work I've put into my new lifestyle. Still, it's a BFD, I guess I have about 60 lbs to go. My long term goal is 127, which is literally, the highest I can weigh and have a 24.99 BMI. I know BMI is just one metric, but it's the thing that's been shoved in my face for the last decade as "proof" of what was "wrong" with me. So I'd like to flip ole' BMI the bird. If I end up looking or feeling too skinny or unhealthy, I think my body will let me know when to stop losing. It's definitely slowed down at almost 6 months out.

Yesterday, I stopped by the bariatric nurses office at the hospital where I had my band put in. A couple of weeks before my surgery we had to go in for some tests and education. While there, they took all of my measurements, got me on the Tanita scale for analysis, and took a before pic. So I stopped by yesterday to see if they could do the Tanita scale for me. I'm always interested in my BMR (Basal Metabolic Rate) which is how many calories your body burns just to live. Attached is my before and after pic they took and also a pic of the paper showing my measurement changes and the print out from the Tanita scale. I was floored at the pics. They were talking about going on a group ride for charity and it hit me that was something that would be different, new experience to try, but that I also had some fear about. i mentioned that i would be into checking it out and thusly got a free ride on a "christmas toy drive". Well, I was very afraid at first... especially the turns. I was up every morning doing about 60 minutes of cardio, went to work, then back to the gym for weight training. I was a gym rat. I was married with one wonderful daughter and working in law enforcement. At my lowest weight, I had lost 135 lbs. I gained about 20 back and I was looking GOOD. I worked my way back onto my departments tactical team and was able to keep my weight regulated for about 4 years. I was literally the poster boy for the clinics bariatric surgery center. 47. I am very early days, two weeks post-op as of today and I am not seeing the results I expected. I was really hopeful because i lost 14 lbs on the preop diet, but week one I lost 3.5 lbs and week 2 I lost 2.5 lbs for a total of 6t lbs post-op. With the 14 pre-op Its a total of 20 over three weeks so I am not sure what I am complaining about but I expected more since calories are so low. I am tempted to chalk this up to age, or unrealistic expectations, but my surgeon told me way back when that I might lose 30 lbs in the first month, and that doesn't seem possible now unless I include the preop weight loss and even then it might not be possible. For example, today I bought a salad and took 2 bites. After those two bites it felt like I was full already to the point of having that feeling of food going up. I feel amazing. I am so happy that I decided to go with the lapband. It's hard but so worth it. I started of dieting one month after my son was born at 250. Day of surgery (end of jan 2014) I was 232. Yesterday I weighed in at 179. I can't believe it. I didn't think the surgery would work for me as many of you can understand. But it did. My goal is to get to 150 give or take but I am just so proud of myself. Thank you all for your advice and inspirational stories.
