Hello Everyone To avoid the candy issue of Halloween, I buy McDonalds Treat Coupons... 1 pack of coupons is $1 for 12 coupons for things like a hamburger or apple slices, etc. So it's less than those mini candy bars that average 10 cents each! Mom's don't have to worry about what you are giving the child ... and you don't have to have the temptation in your home!!! It's a win/win! I have been doing this for years, I tell the kids they are McDonalds coupons, and they look at you funny when you put a piece of paper in their bag... but it's found when they get home and it's all GOOD! Just putting in my little "trick" for "treats"

Needless to say I am walking on cloud nine today!!! at my 6 month check up my doc said "by 9 months I want you at goal" (at the time it was 20lbs away) I thought to myself "no way that's going to happen, I am losing very slowly now like a pound every 2-3 weeks...) Well at 7 1/2 months I am so EXICITED to say I am DOWN 98 POUNDS and only 2 lbs away from my DOC goal weight... I have a healthy BMI and that was MY goal... I have to thank you all - this website has been such a HUGE support!!! I will post pictures this weekend!!

  6. Hi everyone....I'm back....some of you might remember that I wrote a blog every Sunday that followed my weight loss journey for the first year.....like all of you, it was a huge year of transition for me. But even I couldn't imagine how vibrant and incredible and amazing my life would be 3 years later and it would never have happened without WLS. I have created a dream life that works for me (trust me, it would not work for 90% of the readers here in my opinion). But I have decided to start writing my blog again in hopes of inspiring people to have the courage to create and design their own dream life. So if you are new to the forum and want to read what it was li…

I had my 6 month follow up with my surgeon yesterday. He said I was firing on all 4 cylinder.... finally!! I had gastric bypass April 8, 2014. Unfortunately, I'm one who had complications. I wound up back in surgery no even 12 hours after the bypass. I had adhesions which caused a bowel leak. Thank God my doctor was a great, conscientious surgeon & discovered the problem & repaired the hole. But I became septic. The antibiotics weren't working & my temp kept climbing. For 3 weeks I was on a ventilator & medically comatose. I remember nothing until mid May. I later found out that it was touch & go for a while. I figure God kept me here for a reason. …

Well I really need some feed back on this one. Do I begin fertilty treatments or have the surgery first? The problem is the age factor. My ob/gyn has told us because of issues with my husband and my age we would need fertility treatments to have a higher chance of concieving. However, he is not willing to do treatments after 46 years of age and guess who turns 46 this year, ME! He is willing to try 3 cycles which will give me a weight gain of course. The road to surgery is just lacking insurance approval, waiting on me to tell them to submit. If I have the surgery I woudl have to wait a year before we could try and that puts me closer to 48. I have fought thru months o…

I experienced a new NSV this evening and I have to say, I'm feeling pretty good after this one! My daughter had a dress in her closet that was MINE when I was a sophomore in high school. I wore it when I walked in the football homecoming that year. I remember feeling so beautiful in that dress. We were looking through old yearbooks and pictures a few nights ago and she said "Hey! I have that dress in my closet!" So tonight, she pulled it out of the closet and insisted I try it on. I was certain that it would NOT fit. Only, it DID fit! OMG! Wow! What an amazing feeling that was/is! I just can't believe it! People keep telling me how skinny I am and how great I look but I h…

Hello Bariatric Pals! I am asking for anyone who has come from a really high starting weight all the way down to one-derland with gastric banding to share their story. I am still very early in my pre-op journey and am wrestling with my mental monsters. I know it can be done. I see it everywhere online! I just would like a more one on one conversation and the opportunity to ask questions about your individual journeys. I really appreciate you taking the time to respond, so allow me to thank you in advance. Future Success, Candace

Came across these two shots and had to post them. Like I said in my title, there are just no words...except that this is the result of being banded, not bypass or sleeved. Not that there's anything wrong with those surgeries. Whatever works for you is my motto. But for those morbidly obese and not sure they can go with a band, this just shows that it can be done.

I am down 68 lbs so far but need to lose another 45. Could I have stretched my pouch already? I have been feeling a little hungrier lately. Anyone out there have some advice to talk me off the ledge?

I just had my 3 month post op follow up with my doctor and things are going really well. I've lost over 75 lbs. since surgery with little or no problems, I am wondering if any of the vets encountered any setbacks/problems during the 3-6 month time frame. I made my 6 month appointment but am wondering how important it is to keep it. The reason I ask, is that my surgery was self pay and my follow ups are no longer covered by my self pay payment. I need to pay out of pocket for all future visits with the surgeon. I am hoping I can just transfer to my PCP and have insurance cover the visits. It was hard enough paying for the surgery so I don't want to keep paying out o…

Today I was cleaning my garage and came across some old jeans and shorts. It shocked me how big they were. I had forgotten I guess how far I've come. I held them up one by one and marveled that they ever fit me. I was pretty sure I had found clothes from my very heaviest - 330 ish and size 28W to 32W or 3x to 4x range. I checked tag number 1...size 20W. Checked the next...sure enough they were all 20w to 22w. It hit me like a ton of bricks to realize why these were forgotten in garage was because they were WAY to small when I moved to this house. I spent a few minutes feeling sad for the woman who would have considered 20w pretty damn good clothing size/fair…

I had to go and renew driver's license today. Good thing because I really didn't look like my old picture at all anymore. LOL So my weight is my ACTUAL weight, not my "lie" weight. I was always too embarrassed to give my true weight for the past three licenses, so I lied. First time I said 250 and stuck to it, even when I ballooned up to 300 lbs and higher. Well not this time, I gave my real weight, 215lbs. Granted, that is still a big number and I really hope in four years I can give a lower real weight. But it feels pretty darn good to not feel such shame and take a pretty good picture!!!! LOL

Well, after 3 years on my own following the break up of a 30 year relationship, at the weekend I finally got naked with someone I have lusted after for years.... He didn't run away screaming at my wrinkly, saggy bits. I took my clothes off - ALL OF THEM!!!! And the world didn't end, he didn't laugh and I didn't die of embarrassment. Something for me to add to my list when people ask how my sleeve has changed my life - I can do naked :-))))))) Sorry if is is tmi, but I actually never thought at 52 that I could throw my clothes off with such abandon and without stressing -oh how I love my sleeve!

  22. I am 5'5 and 29 years old. I had surgery on November 7, 2013. I am a few weeks away from my 1 year post op date. I started at 260 pounds. 11 months out I am now 165. 5 pounds away from 100 pound loss. I really wanted to hit that by my one year, but honestly I just don't see it happening. The past few months, I have been stalled at 165-166-167. I just can't get out of those numbers. I really thought by 1 year I would be a lot smaller than 165........ Just kinda disappointed. I am also disappointed in clothing size. I can wear a 12 at American Eagle. 12 is still BIG. 12 is still at the higher end of the clothing sizes (before you move into …

Ok, so my surgery is scheduled for October 17th and I've been reading through these forums like it's my J-O-B. I spend most of my days cycling through a range of emotions. I usually kick things off with excited, move on to freaked, dabble in nervous, dip my toes into full on terrified and then cycle back to totally freaked. And so I'm curious: if you could go into a wayback machine and talk to your pre-surgery self to share all of the best tips, tricks, and advice you've learned along the way that has helped to make you successful what would you say? I'd love to hear any specific info (i.e. you better get your ass exercising at least 4 days a week; or ditch carbs right f…

Sky diving - Crazy, I know, but it's something I've always wanted to. Kayaking - My hair stylist, who is also a friend, goes all the time and we've already got a "date" for her to show me how next summer. Clothes - I recently purchased 2 shirts that are my two goal items. I can't wait to wear them! Crossing my legs - Can't remember the last time I was able to do that! Sitting cross legged - I rarely, if ever, get on the floor now but can't sit "Indian style". Looking forward to doing that again! Run - I've always thought t…

Today, I'm celebrating my first surgiversary! 105 lbs gone from my HW. Time to share my story: I was morbidly obese for the majority of the last 20 years. I'd diet and lose 30 only to regain 40. Sound familiar? My ankles and left shoulder were in constant pain from old injuries, bone spurs and edema. I could barely get up from a chair without assistance. Exercise was very difficult. I thought that having surgery to repair my ankles would be the answer to getting moving again. In January 2012, I had surgery to remove bone spurs and repair my left Achilles' tendon. A week later I had bilateral pulmonary embolisms. Luckily (obviously), I survived, but even with the surge…

So yesterday I reached my goal weight, losing 134 pounds in 10.5 months. I made a flipogram with all of my monthly progress pics to illustrate my journey to this point. It was pretty awesome to see and actually made both my husband and myself cry. It's been a LOT of work and I've grown tremendously in strength both inside and out on this journey. Ok, so I can't figure out how to embed it, so here is the link to the flipogram!

  34. When I first started posting on this forum in August 2013, I loved, and still do love, reading the stories of people who had hit certain goals. My surgery was in September 2013, and I knew the three postings that I wanted to make....the one year surgiversary post, the 100 pounds lost post (which is the exact pound that puts me into the normal BMI range), and of course, the day I reached my final goal weight. My one year surgiversary was in September, so knocked that one out, but as of today I have lost 100 pounds and I am finally in the "normal" range on a BMI chart! In the past I have lost 80-90 pounds a few times, but never 100, and I am now 1 pound thinner than I h…
