Does WLS work? Darn straight, it does – if you follow ALL the rules! Today I'm exactly 6 months out and 100 lbs down. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all, and may 2015 bring us all good health and weight loss success!!!

So I am 3 months out from surgery and 47lbs down as of today. Things are going really well, No complants or issues at all, My only issue is I've only had one follow up appointment with my surgeon the week after surgery was the last time I went in for a visit!..Not because I don't want to, but mainly because I just don't have the time between work and home life also his office is an hour away and it cost me $125 per office visit. Is it really necessary to go in for monthly visits if everything is going well?..Also I was asked to join a support group and go to that which I never did, But I have a lot of support at home and 3 months in have never had a feeling of depressio…

Just a week ago I hit Onderland. I have not seen those numbers in probably 21 years!!!!............................ AND whats even better is that on Thanksgiving my "pig-out" was such the opposite! I had so much space on my plate that each item had a good two-inch birth. For the first time in years and years I don't have that voice in the back of my head lying to me saying, "it's okay to pig-out...you can still lose weight by summer!" No more feelings of defeat and desperation but instead, I am mindful, healthful, and in high spirits. And for these things, I am eternally grateful.

  4. Well today marks my 4 weeks since my surgery on 10/27!! I cannot believe it has been that long already. We took my one month pics and measurements yesterday. We took my measurements originally on the day of surgery. I only measured my bust, waist, buttocks, thighs, calfs and arms. I have lost 26.5 total inches so far. With the most being 6 inches off my waist. I was amazed!! I wanted to do take my measurements for those times when I may not lose anything I hope to be able to see success in my measurements. I have lost 32.6lbs since my pre op weight (I only had one week on pre op diet), and 23.6 since surgery. I was so afraid of not losing anything week 3 or 4…

  5. So hubby took me shopping yesterday, I went the day before and found NOTHING. was in a total funk. Nothing looked right on me. Everything fit weird. Well he said i will take u...(13 years this is a FIRST) well we shopped in Reg sizes!! Not plus sizes and OMG sz 16 petite skinny jeans fit meeee!!! I'm only down 38 pounds. But it's coming off in good places! He then took me to a shoe store and bought me some knee boots!! My calves have always been too big for them. Considering I wear a size 6. Even "wide calf" wouldn't come close. It was a great day for a little confidence boost. Hope everyone is doing great!!!!!

  8. I posted a new blog after I returned from OCC (Obesity Control Center) to observe some surgeries. Some of the pictures might be a little too much for some - but if you want to see why a gastric sleeve really works, why it controls appetite and eating, but how much is really removed, it is a great educational opportunity. Happy reading! http://www.bariatricpal.com/blog/8439-pinkl8tyloris-blog/ again - a warning - there are pictures of the removed portion of the stomach after a gastric sleeve surgery... pretty awesome!

Today is my 49th birthday. I bought my daughter new jeans for Christmas and one pair was too big for her. Today I was going to return them. Just before we put them in the box she said, "Mom, why don't you try them on." I took a deep breath and went for it. Guess what? They fit? A freakin size 5!!! They are the stretchy kind but they fit. I haven't fit into anything that small since high school. Happy Birthday to me!!! 49 years old and a size 5 jean. Can't think of anything better. Blessings everyone ~

Well, Things are going well. I am still having to get use to reminding my self that I have to slow down when eating. Sometimes i am so hungry that I forget lol. I am doing better with getting my Protein in each day. I usually eat about one cup of cottage cheese a day which is about 22 grams of protein total. I make my self a fruit smoothie with one scoop of my Bariatric Advantage vanilla protein. I also found out(which i was so happy lol) that Lean cuisines have a good amount of protein. The one I had yesterday was 20 grams. Any ways I have lost 75 lbs total. I have my 6 month follow up on Jan 8th. I am wearing a size 12-13 now from a size 24. I feel great and people t…

Short story: I've started seeing a therapist in the last couple months because I know I need to work some stuff out before I go through with the RNY surgery. I'm dealing with stress, anxiety, and all kinds of emotions that I don't really have the equipment to handle. My therapist thinks that I turn to food for comfort. After a binge, I feel calm... and disgusting. But calm, and whatever was bothering me is now buried under pounds of food. In a horrible way, I feel better for the short term. What makes this really frightening is that if this is why I'm eating... how can I stop? If I get bariatric surgery without addressing this problem, I'll end up totally lost and unh…

Today I had my routine visit with my PCP..... After the usual Q&A, he said I looked good, I'm going in the opposite direction of most people my age. He then started to reminisce about our visits before I had WLS...(He referred me) He asked me what was my highest weight...I told him I didn't have a clue, it got to the point where I was too embarrassed to step on the scale, didn't want to face the music. He then went way back in my very thick chart and said "I have it right here, want to know?....would you believe you where in the 80's? As in 280?" (I'm only 5'8") WOW! I really didn't know! Right now it is blowing my mind just thinking about it.... Second thing …

I was sleeved with a SIPS procedure on 11/14 and had to spend a couple of extra nights due to some swelling in my colon. They sent me home but I developed severe pain and was readmitted the next day. They found I had pulled loose a couple of staples, fixed me up and started pumping the antibiotics. I spent another 4 days in the hospital. Been doing great ever since. Moving to soft foods on Wednesday. HW 250. SW 230 CW 201 I've lost almost 50 lbs and am just 2 lbs from onederland! I was wearing waist 44s, today I'm wearing 38s. Amazing. Post op 3 weeks I just don't seem to have a lot of energy. I know that will change......I'm ecstatic!

I need to get back to work quick so I can wear all of this stuff one more time before it hits the bag. I'm found some pants that I'm wearing now that I have not worn in 5 years. This holiday season has reminded me of a harsh reality. I am an addict. The fact has been lost on me the past 8 months. I've been well behaved and I've lost more weight than I expected or really wanted to. But I got bold the over the last week and tried food that I assumed would make me sick. Like fudge and Cookies. The bad news is I did not get sick and I pretty much learned I can eat anything. This is not good. I had RNY verses the sleeve so I would not revert to my old sugar habit. That did not happen. My little pouch loves fudge just like my big stomach did. I gained 4 pounds this week. In and of itself that's not a big deal because I'm still lower than I…

Hey, 16 days of liquids and leafy greens and 22 pounds lost deserve to be counted! I really don't know where to begin to describe how wonderful this past year has been, but here are some highlights... My surgical experience at Obesity Control Center in TJ was better than I could have hoped for. It was more of a fun mini-vacation with my sister than anything. Recovery was nearly painless and I have had no reflux, food intolerances or hair loss. My sincere thanks goes out to everyone there who took such good care of me. I discovered wha…

I'm almost 2 years out from surgery and hit my first goal of 185 a year ago. I've been bouncing around 185 for a year and trying everything I could to get in the 170s to my final goal of 173. I thought my body just wanted to be 185 and there was nothing I could do to change that (I'm 5'10"ish). Even with plastic surgery, I didn't lose anything... well, I lost 4 pounds of skin and tissue, but got breast implants and a butt flap implant, so I think the difference was about 0. Well... the scale is finally moving!! I've gone back to the basics of what I was eating about a month or so out of surgery and doing high intensity interval training 3 times a week. Hi. I am new to the forums and to my surgery journey. I have been overweight my whole life and I am now at the point that I am ready to make the life altering step and have surgery. My insurance requires a 6 month doctor supervised weight loss program (done) and a six month course of Health Education classes, which I begin in Jan. My question is this... Has anyone taken these classes? What are they like? How long does it take when you are done to get the surgery? I am hoping to have the surgery in early summer. I am a teacher and have some time off. I would like to do this without taking sick time. ) Thanks for any input!

It's been four weeks since I had my sleeve. Things are going well. The first week or so it was difficult getting enough protein and water but I am doing much better now. Week 2 and 3 I had a stall and didn't lose any weight at all. I was starting to freak out and kept asking myself what I was doing wrong as I was eating all of the things I'm supposed to eat and I began excerising daily. However, at the end of week 3 the weight started coming off again. Now I am down 30 lbs since surgery and down 55 since the preop diet. I'm started ot notice changes in the way clothes fit and also I just feel better overall. This makes my excited for the future. Oh and Go Lions!

Six weeks out- down 35 lbs. 50 since starting the program. Amazing to me how little food has control over me now. I grabbed a chunk of chicken to eat tonight because I was out running errands. Few hours later I had a Mandarin for a treat. I used to plan to go get food and looked forward to food now it's just necessity. Eat enough protein and drink my fluids. No issues with drinking water no sipping needed. Happy girl. Food used to rule part of my life. Not anymore.

  39. I had my surgery on October 31, 2014. My pre op weight was 247. 20lbs away from one of my heaviest weights. The lowest I ever got on my own was 205. I have never been able to get past that number no matter how hard I tried. This morning I weighed in at 210. I have mixed emotions because I'm 5 pounds from my lowest weight and I know that this time there won't be the horrible battle when I get this close to being under 200lbs.

I'm posting tonight because I'll be working a long day tomorrow. Tomorrow is my one year surgiversary. It has been a stellar year. I've worked my ass off for every pound along with the help of my band. Getting banded was one of the best decisions I've ever made, and I certainly had doubts. Today, I went shopping and for the first time in over 15 years, I fit into a size 12. I love my banded life. I'm about 4 pounds away from goal and now I'm learning about maintenance. It's a scary venture because I'm always afraid that I will become complacent and fall back into my old fat girl habits. I truly believe that regular exercise is the way I will keep off the weight. I have a little black dress, sexy shoes, bling on my clutch and bling for my accessories. I'm wearing the full length mink and I know I will be beautiful tonight. How wonderful to look forward to something instead of fearing it because I'm the biggest person in the room, or because I can't find a chair to sit in because my knees are killing me. For anyone struggling with holiday treats and temptations, think about how much better life is at a healthy weight instead of being overweight or obese. Today I am officially one year out and I have a normal BMI. I just saw my nutritionist and she didn't recognize me at first. Which is funny and really nice. She also said she is very proud of me. Even though I developed Reactive Hypoglycemia which only 2% of Gastric Bypass patients get I wouldn't change a thing about having this surgery. The pluses out way the minus of getting this. It's been an educational journey which I will continue to take from this day forward. I wish all of you great success on your journeys too. Thank you for reading this.
