How did you choose a goal weight? I have been going back and forth. During high school I was in the 160-175 range, but a normal bmi would be 150 and below for me. My surgeon set the 60% of excess weight goal, but I definitely want to do more than that... Any pointers? I don't want to be too wishy washy with myself and do less than I should, but I also don't want to set an unattainable goal. How did you handle your goals? Right now I have my surgeon's goal (207), a personal goal (175) and then a couple of stretch goals (160, 145). I feel like I need to set some kind of goal for personal accountability, but I really don't want to feel like a failure if I don't mak…

It is so good to actually explore my body! (For all of you that think I'm talking about playing with myself, sorry to disappoint! :-)) BUT (and you don't have to be a surgeon to appreciate this), I am sooooo happy to be able to see and feel bones, veins, muscles, etc. But, yes, admitedly as a physician/surgeon, I do enjoy saying: "Wow, I can really see my sternocleidomastoid muscle!" [the long muscle that appears at your neck when you turn your head]. "Wow, there's my 'anatomical snuff box,'" [Extend all your fingers as much as you can. really stretch the hand. Between your wrist and thumb, there are two "lines"--the longest, on top; the short one on the bottom. The…

Hello, haven't been on here for a long time. Wanted to say hello to everyone and see who was still here. I think I have done OK with the band. I have passed my goal weight by 15 pounds. (I think those last pounds were my boobs!) Had a few rough issues and my band had to be emptied. ..as in fluidless for over a year now (still down 75 pounds from then) so I guess all is well. Except I could hurt someone for a beer!!!!

I am 6 days post op and doing excellent The first 5 days were rough The first day was just awful, being in Tijuana where I had no idea what was going on because of the little English that was spoken was scary and I kept thinking what am I doing here. After a 8 hour travel day and plane ride from hell, I was whisked away into surgery and woke up and was like ok what's next. I was nervous all day then night came and I was puking blood clots which is very normal after surgery but I felt like I was going to die. Day 2, reaction to an iv medication that made he hot, red, and itchy. Kept telling dr's and nurses and no one would tell me what was going on till 10 pm that ni…

  8. The first photo was before I started my two week pre-op diet, last April. I weighed 231.8 at my heaviest, and was wearing a (tight) size 16. The second one was taken a couple of weeks ago, at about 153. I now wear a size 6-10, depending on the brand. Someone else on here posted before and after wearing the same clothes, and I thought that was a good idea, so that's what I've been doing so far, but then thought maybe I should add some wearing clothes that fit too, hence the third photo!

Hi all, I'm glad I found this online support community. I am a 27 year old female at 5'0 and 203 pounds. I was around 150 in college but I have gained weight over the years and had very little success losing it. I have tried weight watchers, a weight loss clinic, exercise, and even a doctor-prescribed weight loss pill. I'm afraid if I don't do something soon, I will be facing severe health problems by the time I'm 30. I want to be a healthy and fit young woman. I had my first LapBand appointment/consultation yesterday. I felt good about it but then I went home and started Googling. Bad idea. Don't do this. I came across several horror stories about band slippage, stomac…

Saturday I hit my 7 month mark since my RNY surgery, and while at the gym, I had my trainer take my picture. I can honestly say that the last 7 months have been great, simply life changing. My diet has completely changed and I now go to the gym 4-5 times a week. I feel like a new person. So far I have lost 133 lbs. since surgery! I can't believe it. I still have a bit of a ways to go, but I thank God everyday that I decided to start this lifestyle change last summer. I feel really blessed to have such a great support system in my family, friends, here, and at my gym. I just wanted to take a few minutes to share my story. Thanks for reading!!!

So.....I have a Christmas dinner for my husbands work this Saturday night. I was counting on Gywinee Bee to send some pants but they didn't (which was a good thing turns out) and I checked Good Will...no luck. Well Old Navy is having a jeans sale. I figured I guess I could try. So I go in and grab two pairs of pants. On that is a size smaller than I usually wear and one a few sizes smaller. I figure I will try the smaller ones on first and get the depression over with (what I am used to when I shop) but oh no...not this time. I put on, looked awesome and felt great in a pair of jeans 4 sizes smaller than i usually wear. First time in years I didn't mind shopping. …

  14. So I had the most awesome experiences over the past week. First of all I passed my goal by one pound.... But on a side note, now I feel compelled to lower my goal by 5 more pounds....do you all struggle with that at all? Like knowing when to stop? But in any case, that was exciting. Then I took my 17 year old shopping for a swimming suit. While while we were there she wanted me to try one on too. Swimming suit shopping in the past has always been an experience that took hours and left me either in tears or feeling extremely depressed. I have always had a skirted swimming suit for at least 15 years. So I was like, what the heck....why not. So I tried on a high-waisted…

I don't know if that is slow or average but I don't care. As long as the weight keeps coming off, I will be happy. Next goal - next 25 pounds by June.

  18. I was sleeved July 28th and I am so happy with my progress! I'm down 83 lbs and still losing at a steady pace. I started at 262 lbs and am down down to 179! Crazy to think I'm only 30 lbs from my goal weight! I'm 5'5.5" and before surgery I was a size 22/24 in bottoms and XL in tops. Now I'm a size 12/14 and M/L. My body has changed a lot, but I've also changed a lot mentally! food no longer controls me, and I don't even like some of the foods I binged on before my sleeve. I have gotten stuck and yet I still love my band. It has taken some time but I have learned to live with it as many of my fellow veterans have as well. I have learned what I can eat and what I can't eat with my band. I do drink a little sprite or orange soda every once in a while. I can't stand coke any more which used to be my favorite soda. I can honestly say I haven't had it in over 4 years. What I do drink on the regular is orange juice because I can't eat oranges any more. I can ea…

so, a huge NSV for me this weekend, I went shopping at the mall for the first time since surgery for new clothes. (bypass surgery 7/4/14 and down 101 pounds so far!!) I went to H&M, Aeropostale, Forever 21,just to name a few. So, since this is a whole new shopping world for me, where are some stores that you like to go in now that you're on the losers bench? 26. Hi Everyone! I usually don't do much topic starting, but I thought I would share. One of the things I wondered about pre-sleeve is if I was going to be successful. I was the world's WORST dieter. I was even worse with sticking to anything long term. The sleeve has changed my life 100% for the better. Granted, there have been some adjustments that have to be made (like new allergic reactions to foods etc), but I wouldn't change this. I was walking in the mall last weekend and walked by Victoria's Secret. I have never purchased any bras (or anything matter of fact) from in there, my chest was just too big. I thought, what the heck, lemme check it out. I need new bras anyway…

I'm down to 168lbs and for the first time in my life I have normal BMI, I have never been one to go by what the scale says, it's always been about how I feel both health and look wise, no longer need the cpap machine! went from a size 40/42 waist to a 32 and xxl shirts to large. Some people I haven't seen in a while don't even recognize me at first, I workout daily and feel healthier then when I was a teen / young adult. I've seen lot of 5 month+ success stories, so I want to share my 60 day success story for those of you who are recent sleevers like me. I'm down 76 lbs (currently 284 from 360). Before the operation, I was borderline diabetic and borderline high blood pressure. In fact, a couple of times my doctor told me I should start getting on blood pressure meds. To top it off, I had severe heel spurs and my knees hurt all of the time. I felt like eating was a chore, because I was always hunger and always stuffing my face. Well in early November, my wife got pregnant with our first child and I decided it was time for a change. So I opted for the sleeve. I love my new st…

I know, mentally, I've lost the weight, but I think I'm still struggling with emotionally allowing myself to see any difference. Perhaps bc I'm waiting for the other shoe to drop and regain the weight?! I don't know, but today I had my "aha" moment. Well here I am. Sitting at about 177-179 lbs, which is not bad considering about 18 months ago I weighed close to 260. But I was hoping to be at goal or better. Snag! I let my guard down. I stopped using my tool. I thought I had beat the beast into submission and would never have to worry or work again...NOT! So I have bounced back up from my low 5K weight of 174. You know the time when I felt like GI Jane...Kicking ass and taking names...bullet proof. I came back from Christmas vacation determined to start running/jogging regularly again. Then my knee started to hurt. I have scaled back my "crap eating" again. So at least I've slowed the mutiny. I gues…

OK, this is seriously funny, but I just got back from a week in Vegas and I lost weight. How much do I love my sleeve? You bet I do! This is a victory on many levels because the last time I was in Vegas, I was over 300 lbs and could barely walk for more than 1/2 hour before feeling winded and needing to take a break. This trip...I walked over FIVE HOURS three days in a row. I just stopped every now and then for some quick gambling, some hydration, etc. It's like I had the seemingly endless energy I had 20 years ago! It felt fantastic! No pained feet, knees, back...I felt fit again!!! I stayed off-Strip, so the hotel buffet ($8 for Breakfast or lunch) was totally worth…

Because I have been a good girl and really proactive, I have already: -taken the workshops -completed packet -blood work done -psych eval done -sent letter of recommendation from physician -every other little damn thing! Sooo, ideally- I will meet with everyone 2/5, and because they don't have to wait on anything, send off my information to my insurance co for pre-auth! That means by this time next month, I could be told YES-- even better, scheduled ASAP. Ahhh I'm so excited…
