My weight has been a battle for me my whole life. In high school I was able to maintain a healthy weight but was always the chunky monkey of the group. After school I was much less active and the weight just crept up on me until one day I was 220+ lbs. At the age of 21 I was told I would never be able to have children due to a medical condition that was caused by being over weight with the cavete being that this condition caused me to gain weight. So after about 5 years of trying to have a family and just being miserable I decided enough was enough so I joined a popular weight loss program. In 10 months I had lost 126lbs and regained my life. I was 12lbs away from my goal weight and wasn't able to lose any more only to find out the reason was because I was pregnant:-) We were sooo thrilled! My son was born prematurely and with that obviously came alot of stress! I was finding comfort in food and ended up adding on 80lbs, so I went back to the program I knew worked and sure enough 80lbs gone... and then we found out we were expecting baby #2 :-) We were soooo thrilled!!! After having my daughter and the 80lbs once again finding me, I went back to the same program that worked twice before only this time to find it wasn't working. I was doing everything the same but my body just wasn't responding the same. After months of hard work with little reward, I got discouraged and quit. Three years went by with me ignoring the fact that my clothes didn't fit and I was winded all the time and that my blood pressure was through the roof until one day, I'd had enough. I knew this wasn't me so I called a well known lap band surgeon in the area and scheduled a consultation. I was extremely hesitant with the idea of having surgery to lose weight, I'm not one who likes to go to the Dr., I'm scared to death of needles and every other medical device and my biggest hurdle was the perception I had that weight loss surgery was the "easy" way out, that there was no self gradification because it wasn't "you" doing the work, boy oh boy is this the biggest bunch of BS EVER, but when I went in for my consult and they told me I weighed 289lbs, and my blood pressure was at stroke range I knew something had to be done. I I knew right then and there that if I decided to go through with this surgery that I WAS GOING TO SUCCEED there was NO other option for me. I knew if I had let my weight get so out of control that I had to have major surgery to get mysellf back then this was going to be the end of the yo-yo dieting for me!
I had my lapband surgery on May 30, 2013 and haven't looked back sense. Today, 8 months later I'm so happy with my decision! To-date I've lost 113lbs; I'm healthy, my blood pressure is normal, my energy is back, the real me is back, I have my life back!!!
My trust in God, along with the support of my amazing family and friends along with the belief in myself have been the key to my success, along with the lapband of course.
I'm 8 months in and I've had no issues with my band. I haven't gotten sick once, I did get stuck once on a blooming french fry which of course I didn't need anyway:-)
I'm not done, I still have 26lbs to go before I reach my goal but I know I'll get there, one day at a time, each decision at a time.
My advice is listen to your Dr. and do EXACTLY what they tell you to do. Make the best choices you can and you will be successful!
This is definitely not easy, but nothing in life worth having or keeping ever is! Believe in yourself and let God and the lapband do the rest! You can do it! You will do it! It's not a choice any more!!!!
