As we wrap up 2015, I find myself reflecting on my RNY. I am still surprised that I went through with my July 27 surgery. I started the process in early March, quickly qualifying for the surgery. My surgeon moved up my surgery by two weeks at the beginning of June. At that point, it became very real that this was happening. I immediately went on a liquid diet and stopped all meds. I pushed my fears aside throughout the process, knowing that my surgeon was well qualified. As my husband said, "this isn't his first rodeo."
Since surgery, I have learned to listen to my new system and attend to its needs. I know what makes it happy and what doesn't. And I know I will pay a price for eating the wrong foods. I've found interesting how my taste buds have changed and how much I crave fruit. My hair has started to thin, but I know this is temporary.
But more than anything, I am stunned by how much weight I have lost (and continue to lose). I have lost 90# this year, 40# before surgery and 50# since surgery. I feel fantastic. I am so thankful I didn't let my fears overwhelm me, and I went forward with this life-changing event.
Happy New Year, everyone!
