My NUT told me that unless I'm willing to count calories I shouldn't bother having the surgery. I'm about to in 10 days.

Have you found this to be true?

Thank you!

Yes. At first I only counted my protien and carbs, but as time went on and my weight loss slowed and stalled several times, knowing how many calories I was consuming helped me adjust accordingly when I needed to. I admit I've been kind of half assed at it at times, but now that I'm pretty much at maintenence, I feel I must hold myself accountable at this point so I don't regain.

Well logging/tracking your food is extremely important for several reasons. Firstly you need to know how much Protein you are getting each day to make sure you are meeting your protein goals. Secondly, she. You hit a stall (and trust me you will), you will want to go over those food logs with your NUT to see if you can determine what to adjust, if anything. It is a very quick process to use an online food tracker.

I hate hate hate tracking but with my smart phone(much smarter than me) piece of Cake(i mean fruit). It will even save your food and you just "add to your day " there r days I go ugh but I will take a picture and do it at the end of the day.. Give it a shot. But don't give up.

I was specifically told not to count my calories or carbs JUST Protein and Water. I do anyway and at about 10 weeks out usually eat 700-800. The biggest reason I do it is because I use my fitness pal for protein water tracking and it gives me Cals too! It's much easier to track after survey. You'll see. Your nut sounds like a piece of work. There is more than one way to do things.

Keeping track of your food helps you see where you are Getting too many calories or not enough. Helps you track you Proteins, fats and carbs as well as your Water intake. I also use it to find flaws in my diet so I can rethink choices and substitute for healthier and smarter choices

I have to count calories. If I don't, I gain, and quickly!

My surgeon told me to stop counting and stop watching the scale. I did and realized that I had stalled for months. I literally did not lose but about 10 lbs in 3 months! I had logged religiously but did not weigh often. But when I stopped doing both, I set myself up for a big disappointment. Now I log and weigh daily and have been losing since then. I am a slower loser. My VSG was 4/30/14 and I have lost 111 lbs as of today. But I will take that; it's better than going backwards, and believe me I have done that too. I use Lose It and keep my calories most days around 800. I have 67 lbs to get to my surgeon's goal weight for me. But I will go lower and see what weight feels best. Good luck, you can do this and we will all eventually reach our goals. It's so much easier with the apps. Try and see which one works best for you.

Wow. You're 18 months out and only eating 800 calories? I would stall for decades on that!

How far out are you and how many calories do you eat to maintain?

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
