I'm new to this site and just wanted to know if anyone has experienced a drop in their mood after surgery. I'm glad I had the surgery, I had been wanting it for more than a decade. I'm happy with my weight loss. So why has my mood fallen? There are things going on in my life that are a bit stressful at the moment and are not connected to the surgery. I'm just not dealing with the stress and I just want to turn to food for comfort. I have been doing so well with healthy eating. But not being able to deal with my stress makes me want to eat to escape that stress. Its not the answer I know that but I am not sure what to do to get some peace in my head.

Hi everyone ! Has anyone had an abdominal panniculectomy after WLS? I scheduled mine for December but wondering what recovery looks like and how it compares to the pain/recovery from Gastric Bypass Surgery. Any thoughts/input would be appreciated! Thanks, Sarah

I am 8 days post op and have a strange pain in my back. It is located dead center and feels a bit like when you get a brain freeze and it goes into your back. My back has also been tired, but this pain is a little different. I can feel it more when I inhale. I have no heartburn (GERD) symptoms at all. Pretty much pain free, except a little tender at incisions. Pain level for my back is 1-3, but fairly constant. I had it on the 3rd day after surgery and then it left until yesterday. Any ideas?

Is it possible to lose weight in your feet? I’m starting to notice that some of my shoes fit bigger than normal. I will admit my feet used to swell before VGS surgery but it wasn’t every day. I’m not complaining, just shocked !

I went in at 730 yesterday morning for my sleeve. I'm only getting about 1 hour sleep at a time. Very, very sore. And I'm not belching much when I walk. Not passing gas at all. Nurse says little belching is normal. I just remember my wife letting some loud ones out after hers. Anyone else experience this? Pre Op 5' 11" #360 >50 BMI

Does anyone have any thoughts or information on drinking Kombucha tea. I'm 10 months down, feel great, lost all my weight, just looking for a healthy immune system booster. I have a friend who hooked me on The Wild Root (root beer flavor) Kombucha tea yesterday. It is essentially an all natural fermented probiotics. I loved it and felt great after having one. It has a similar apple cider vinegar carbonation though. It has a carbonated taste I think bc of the fermentation process. It bubbbles a little and foams at the top when opened. Is that the same as regular carbonation issues. I experienced no pain but also haven't had any carbonation. Thoughts? THX!

Did anyone have a smoothie king go to on the full liquids post-op? I know many of those shakes contain tons of sugar but there are a few that are extremely bari friendly. I just don’t want to overdo it but I am SO. TIRED. of just the same thing at home and wanted a mix up.

I've had this happen 4 to 5 times now in the past 6.5 weeks. I spent most of today curled almost in a fetal position on my bed with horrible cramping/aching in my abdomen area. Have had no food issues in most recent 48 hrs. Start to get really bad abdominal cramping like I'm going to have diarrhea...sometimes there is a small BM & it is not the signature 'hard/rocky' type BM, but the pain just continues on and on. Have decent pain tolerance but if I was asked to walk upright, I'd have to pause and bend over if there was anywhere to do so. In the end it is usually concluded that I was not necessarily: Constipated Experiencing a bad food/rejec…

Had gastric bypass last month and I've been doing really well recovery wise. Warning - there is some TMI in this post, but I really need help... Background info: My BMs since surgery have been regular but...flaky? Not liquid diarrhea, but just - kinda powdery. Didn't think much of it since I figured well, I've been eating so much less and, blah blah. But then, the past couple of days I could "feel" the constipation was oncoming (I've had it my whole life, I know the feeling). I took some stool softeners, no bueno. Fast forward to last night - I was on the toilet all night off and on, crying out in pain, almost passing out and nauseated and feeling l…

Tmrrw makes 1 week postop for me. I gained 4.2lbs while being in the hospital for surgery. I’m down those extra pounds & 2.6lbs on top of that. I know that the extra weight came from IV & probably also water retention. I woke up out of anesthesia burping & the following day, started to pass gas. I was finally able to poop this morning with the help of milk of magnesia. I’m able to get down 2 protein shakes a day, crystal light & other fluids. Can’t wait til I see the true weight come off. I’m big on taking measurements & celebrating NSVs, but it was a shocker to see the weight gain after surgery. You can keep up with my journey on IG @CurlyGirl_GetsFit

We have to make a 7ish hour trip on Sat, and then turn around drive it again to come home on Sun (my daughter is a competitive gymnast meet is on Sun) On Monday due to some reflux issues they made me go back on liquids, my surgeon told me to slowly start adding back some solids. I have some crunchy protein snacks from a bariatric site and I am thinking some drinkable yogurts (light and fit kind) Other than that right no I am completely blanking on what I should pack for the drive. I have been able to have deli meat moistened but somehow that turns my stomach just thinking about eating it while we are driving. I'm also not sure how things like jello would be whil…

Last night I woke up in the middle of the night suddenly coughing up stomach acid. I used to get frequent heartburn from eating too fast but never really an issue. Since having the surgery my sleep apnea has improved dramatically. I got an oral appliance years ago but never use it. Have not used a cpap either. I was able to convince my pulmonologist that I did not need a sleep study again prior to surgery but I probably should do another sleep study just to see if my results come back any better.

I have found a water that has no calories but is lightly flavored. It is great. Taste is super and no calories, fat etc. If you would like to try it, use the link drinkcirkul.com/share/Cinde-V1593110429786 I plan to use it after surgery. It has a great lid that allows you to take little sips. Just thought someone might want to try it.

A few things that are bothering me. 1. I have a hematoma next to one of my incisions. Surgeon and nurse said it’ll go away and probably drain through my incision, which sounds terrifying. ???? 2. My blood thinner shots make me feel lightheaded and they hurt sometimes. 3. I have a pulling pain when I get up and walk and it makes me lean forward. Pain level is about a 2 or 3. 4. No wheezing, or coughing but I have to take deep breaths every little bit (thinking it’s anxiety) 5. I feel really weak and dizzy and tired. 6. Apparently I look rough too, according to my boyfriend. Anyone have things like this?

I’m 6 months post RNY. I have only gotten sick twice the first month after surgery from eating too fast. Both time it’s what others call dismiss but for me it a sudden gush of salamis like drooling. Tonight I had 2 ounces of chicken and a cauliflower cheese side. I think I ate at normal speed and all was fine. About an hour later I ate most of a 5 oz yogurt I’ve had before. I was almost done with it after maybe 7-8 minutes and felt full so I stopped and didn’t finish the last bites. It’s been 2 hours of nausea and an ache between my shoulder blades. That’s a common thing I feel if I eat fast or too much. Now it’s been almost 3 hours since the chicken and 2 s…

Oh man, I had GERD and was on omeprazole before my VSG a month ago. They told me to STOP taking it and to take Pepcid AC and simethicone instead. Ever since, when I wake up in the morning; I feel somewhat nauseous -- and like I have a "foamy or frothy" stomach. I also cannot tolerate coffee (too acid) in the AM or really eat anything into this goes away -- something that seems to take a couple hours. Anyone else have foamy belly and what tips have you found to cope with it?

I am a little over 1 month post op (sleeve). Solid food stage, but I've been struggling since purée stage. The soonest I could get an appointment is this Friday, so I'm just posting in the mean time but will be seeing my doctors about this. I have no appetite. It feels like I dislike everything I attempt to chew. Sometimes I wanna spit out my gummy vitamin before even thinking about swallowing it. I drink water fine and I've been going back to my protein drink just to try to keep up my protein intake, but I'm still failing. I don't understand how I'll ever keep up this much protein, all the vitamins, and all the water while I have zero desires of eating or drinking. …

I had my one week postop today and I am very dehydrated. I am having trouble swallowing - food and liquid is getting stuck at the bottom of my esophagus before it goes into my stomach. It doesn't come back up. It just sits there for several, long moments and then drops. I am trying to force myself to drink anyways. They said it *could* be a stricture, but it's too early to tell and could just be sensitive from recent surgery. I tried looking up strictures and all I can find are the ones connecting your stomach to intestine. Nothing about your esophagus to your stomach. Is this feeling normal? It happens about 80% of the time. Second question. I cannot stop burping. It is…

Hi! Im 18 and I just had my gastric sleeve on Sept. 3rd. The pain had been bearable and since I'm on the younger side I don't feel much pain when moving around, however I do have EXTREMELY severe asthma (have since birth) and about 6 days in my back started aching. Im not sure what it is but I think it's got to do with my sleeping position since I've been giving myself treatments. My worst fear is that it's something like a blood clot in the wrong spot so I'm a bit freaked out. Any advice or feedback is greatly appreciated!

I'm dehydrated, I can tell by my skin. I've been really trying to chug some fluids but I feel like I just cannot get in all the recommended fluids each day. I saw my surgeon last week and he said just to try and get in as much as possible, he wants 60-80oz a day and some days I'm lucky to get 50 so I'm close, just feel like I need more. This whole not eating and drinking 30 minutes before and after and meals to take at least 30 mins to eat I feel like it's impossible to reach that amount of water unless I'm up 24 hours a day. Also was upped to 60 grams of protein a day and that's two of the premier shakes. Where the heck am I supposed to fit water in?!

I had RNY Gastric Bypass on the 19th of Aug. I keep getting the hiccups, Fri it was almost every hour, Sat I'd get a couple hour break then get them twice in an hour and on and on. I get them even when I haven't eaten and even in the middle of the night so I know they are not from eating too fast. Getting them so often is placing limits on what I can eat because of the air I inevitably swallow making me feel like I am stuffed to the max. Has anyone else experienced something like this? Any tips on how to avoid them? It is driving me insane.

Tried doing a search, but could not find any info specific to this... I have been taking omeprazole 40 mg since my surgery 3 months ago, as instructed by my Doctor. I have been told to now discontinue it, and I have, but i am now experiencing what feels like rebound symptoms like a burning sensation in my pouch. (This started within 2 days of stopping the med.) Not a lot of fun!!! Is this something others have experienced? Does it resolve over time? I will speak to my Doctor- just curious about other's experiences. Thanks so much!

I'm a little over 3 mths and lately I have had a few days where I can't stop eating. I tell myself no and next thing I know it's in my hand. I ate my first candy bar. A Snickers. About 30 minutes ago. I feel sick to my stomach. I have rejected only a few things. Candy bars aren't a habit I'd get back into but even once in a while isn't worth this feeling. On those days I can't stop eating I don't know what to do. It's funny, too, because I seem to even have more room in my stomach. It's maddening.

It is so weird and was not expecting it but have been so hungry ever since I woke up from my DS surgery. Not that I think I could eat anything lol I couldnt even really eat the broth they gave me until couple days but had no problem with crystal light. Like I wanted to eat but physically was just not into eating and also once the broth got cold it was gross lol. I was thinking I would have no appetite for a while but must be head hunger from not eating much during pre op diet as well. I'm looking forward to when I can have protein shakes which I didnt think I would be lol.

I am 4 days post and my tummy hurts! The larger of my incisions is on the upper right side of my abdomen and is so swollen it's like a knot. Add in the never-ending bloating and gas pain...geesh. To add insult to injury my Dr. Decided to change my BP MEDS to one with no diuretic at discharge. I think that's the reason for the horrible bloat. Because of bloat & gas I seem to be gaining. This is depressing

I'm 4 weeks post-op after VSG, and I noticed that when my stomach is empty, I get this weird fluttering/seizing/twisting feeling in it. It wouldn't describe it as painful, but it's definitely unpleasant. I can feel the sensation about to come on for a few seconds, and then it happens for a few seconds, and then it's over. Sometimes it happens a few times per hour, and sometimes only 2-3 times per day. Does anyone else experience this or know what it is? Are these just hunger pangs, and I'm so unfamiliar with them that I'm just not used to it?

OK, I have a fairly decided variety of face care products I've used for past couple of years (due to being over the age of 40) that I like and that I KNOW make a big difference in how my skin looks, feels, etc. I spent a LOT..and I mean a LOT of money trying everything from drugstore creams to higher end skin care lines (Sunday Riley, Dr. Brandt, skin care sold in higher end dept stores), etc. and have honed it down to my 'A' list items (my 'must haves') I really do not want to nor can I really afford to...spend yrs trying to find what other lotions, tapes (silicone), etc. will be even POTENTIALLY helpful to minimize what comes from rapid weight loss. I REALIZE for t…

I was not expecting this much pain at all. I had a csection and was hit by a car before while walking in a crosswalk and this takes the cake. I made the mistake of falling asleep in the chair they had at hospital because it felt good to sit up and woke up freaking out in middle night the pain in my back and shoulders... dont know if it is gas pain but it hurts when I breathe and feels horrible. I was in surgery for 6 hours my fiance told me but also had my gall bladder out at same time. I really hope this is worth the pain. I can drink fine no problems there just my stomach on right side and this pain when I breathe that radiates from back and upper shoulders. When I…

I'm three months post-RNY surgery and have been crushing my non-WLS medications since surgery (and opening capsules). I take three pills in the morning and four at night. Yesterday my nutritionist said I could try swallowing the capsule I take, but should now chop my pills into little pieces. I guess I'd rather just keep crushing them because it's easier. For those who are taking daily medications, how long before you were able to swallow pills whole? Did you feel nauseous (one poster wrote she felt sick for two hours after swallowing capsules)? Or are you not having any problems?
