Hello all! I go see my Dr. on the 11th for my one week check up so I’ll ask him. But in the meantime has anyone here traveled 3 weeks post-op? We planned a road trip (8hr drive) and by that time I’ll be 3 wks out. Will only be for 2 days. There will be a lot of walking involved but I can sit down when/if I tire out. This trip is mostly for my kids and this month since I’m off due to FMLA we decided to try. If he says it’s not safe of course we will have to cancel. But just curious if anyone has been in same situation?

For those who lost weight BEFORE surgery- are you seeing as rapid loss as research has showed or recommended AFTER surgery? I’m very aware that everyone is different and will lose at different paces, however my dietician has suggested that my pre-surgery weight loss may be contributing to slower rate of loss post surgery. I lost 40 lbs before surgery, 23 lbs 5 weeks post op. Was hoping to see greater weekly losses following surgery, it’s just not happening. Any insight appreciated!

Day 2 post op. Pushing fluids which is a chore. Mixing half cranberry juice/water, Apple juice/water, eating sf popsicles, and sf jello. Broth has not been so great maybe a couple sips but I can’t get myself to take it. Any tips on what to make while on clears? I have one week of clears then I move to full liquids. I am trying to manage my pain with Tylenol. Best way to describe it is I’m just uncomfortable. Right side of abdomen is sore. No position is great and walking does help get some gas out, but I pretty much have to force myself. Sleep is not easy. Maybe an hour then I am back to being uncomfortable. Just looking for some encouragement in my early post op or tips …

  6. My husband is taking me to Cancun for our Anniversary in November. By that time I will be 6 months out from my VGS surgery. Just wondering if anyone went on an all inclusive vacation after bariatric surgery and how did you handle being surrounded by so much food and alcohol?

So here is a thought, I dont drink but I am going away in the summer to the Caribbean and I was thinking laying at the beach and a bartender comes around with a very cold beer. What would u do? I know we are not allowed to drink alcohol so I'm just curious anyone had a beer after surgery and what happened

Hi! I’m 5 weeks post-op RNY and everything I eat makes me queasy! I mean everything!! I spoke with my physician and they said it’s normal and to give it time. Has anyone else experienced this?

  13. Started by lacey.lacey,

So this is not the most fun topic, but really looking for some people who may have experienced this. I am 2 months post op VSG. I normally only poop once every 4 days or so...yes I know it should be more. Today my stomach started cramping so I went to the bathroom. I had several large blood clots in my stool. Anyone know why? I have contacted my surgeon but it’s the day before 4th of July so idk if I will hear back from them anytime soon. Any thoughts or help would be greatly appreciated! ?

  14. Started by texasnewf,

Is this normal ? I'm worried about my temp being high

  15. Started by CashmereAndBones,

Hey Guys, Sorry I've been writing so many posts lately. Today is wrapping up Day 5 of my VSG and I am having THE WORST cravings. I am stuck at home for two weeks so I've been dwelling on all the foods I used to eat to comfort myself. I am curious of how people got over this? Also just as an update, I've been coming to terms with my anxiety being back in full action so although it is here I'm more at peace with it and it is less intrusive, still annoying but dealing with it.

I am post op gastric sleeve 5 weeks, and I have not lost weight in 5 days, just stayed the same. It is so frustrating because I am hungry all the time but can't get much in my stomach. Anyone else have this with the sleeve? I have lost a total of 20 lbs, then nothing for almost a week now.

  17. Started by np101,

Got the sleeve 7 days ago Down 12lbs. Feeling good Can't do more than 1 shake a day. Getting closer to 64 oz of fluid a day on the water side. Can usually sit down once a day and do 20z in an hour protein has been between 40-60g. Broke the 500cal mark yesterday. Feeling pretty good- got 6-7000 steps each of the last two days. Less and less pain everyday. I have moderate concerns that i am doing too much too fast. I'm also bored out of my skull, so there's that. Follow up appointment Wednesday

  18. Hello, Everyone. I've been following these boards and haven't been able to find an answer to the following: Why do some of us seem able to drink nearly normally very soon after surgery (days, even) and others cannot (or perhaps can never?). Does anyone know why such a large spectrum of experience regarding liquids? I was told in the hospital (and have read here) that liquids can't distend the pouch, so I'm not quite worried. But, I am perplexed. Thank you for sharing whatever you know. Cris

Yesterday...I ate a Kabob with beef. It was so good that I went to my old habits and 1 bite and swallow technique. Man, did I pay for that, the beef got stuck and drinking water only made it worst. I was at a party and walked away fast to a corner where no one could see me and barely made it before it all came up. I stayed there for a few mins while I could barely breathe and my eyes teared up. I kept vomiting for at least 10 mins. The pain kept coming back. I left the party with my wife and pulled over a few times on the way home to vomit again and relieve some of the pain and pressure in my stomach. I know I'm not suppose to eat fast and chew chew chew to small po…

  20. Anyone post-op have their migraines get progressively worse? Mine were 99% under control before surgery - maybe one every 3-4 months. Since then, they've gotten progressively worse. I've now had some form of migraine (some moderate, some severe) every day for about 3 weeks. I'm trying to get into my neurologist, but until I can, i just don't know what to do. I can't take triptans, NSAIDs are now out, and tylenol does nothing. I feel like crap and I'm out of ideas.

I was wondering if it is ok to take codeine guaifenesin after gastric bypass. I’m almost 2 months post op. This is the first time I’ve been sick since surgery and I can’t stop coughing. I’ve tried OTC meds and nothing is working.

  22. Started by CashmereAndBones,

Hey Guys ? Today is day 3 as my surgery was Wednesday. Today I woke up with a slew of weird things that have been happening. My vision seems extra blurry without my glasses and time seemed to be moving fast as the tv seemed sped up through my eyes but it wasn't which this eventually went away. I have constant dumping and can barely eat. I am struggling to get water oz's in. I have chills and my anxiety (which I have a diagnosed anxiety disorder) is very high, I feel like I ruined my life and I wish I never got this surgery. I feel like I'm all alone and no one has these issues! ?

Hi guys!!! I'm 5 days in since my surgery Wednesday I'm doing pretty ok but I been having alot of acid reflux.... no matter what I do it not going away. I'm taking gaviscon it helps a little but do you guys have anything else I can use for it. Because the doctor said it can cause cancer and I dont.want that.

  24. Started by CashmereAndBones,

I am 5 days post op and I've noticed things are blurrier than normal and when people or things move too fast it seems to almost have a weird motion blur effect like my eyes are struggling to keep up with the movements. I also find it hard to have my eyes focus on things it almost seems forced to have to focus now, like when I look at someone's face I feel that I have to dart my eyes back and fourth between their two eyes because mine are not comfortable just staring at one eye anymore. Has anyone had similar issues? Should I make an eye appointment?

  25. I am 7 months post-sleeve and for the past 2 weeks, I've had issues with my vision. I've always had fantastic vision and only used light Rx glasses for when my eyes get tired from working on the computer. I'm talking 20/10 vision. Suddenly every day my vision is getting worse. Up close and far away. Everything is blurry, I'm having to squint as I drive and as I type. So... I went to an optometrist over the weekend, thinking, maybe I'm just getting older and these years of working on the computer are catching up with me. The doctor did his tests and said my vision had definitely gotten "worse" since my last visit (about 2 years ago). My left eye is 20/20 with a little…

One day post op and home from the hospital walking and sipping liquids pretty well. Intense gas that does not seem to be passing besides a few small burps here and there. Anyone have any tips for the gas? Anyone feel gas on the right side of the upper stomach that runs to the back at times?

  27. had gastric bypass DS loop and my gallbladder removed on March 11th 2019. Since then I have gone from 297.7 down to 242. Total of 55.7 lbs. in 3 months and 13 days. But I’m the last 39 days I have only lost 10 lbs. is this a plateau? Is this still good since I have not gained any weight back? I’m feeling better in the last 2 weeks FINALLY.... I had surgery complications and medication changes and problems that caused extra pain and some minor depression, so recovery took longer than “usual” patients. I think? I don’t know how long other people take to get out and about, start regularly exercising (just walking and some 2 pound weights) But the slow down in weight loss wo…

  28. Hi guys! So I'm just at 9 days post op and I just started to introduce protein shakes/thicker soups back into my diet. It takes me *forever* to eat, though, and every time I swallow what little bit I do put in my mouth, I get this weird pain/nausea/heartburn in my chest/upper stomach area. I take small, slow spoonfuls and space them out time-wise. Anyone else experience this or anything like it? Any tips?

  29. My wife had the sleeve done almost 2 years ago. She lost weight and everything was good. Then on August 4th she went to a going away party and got super drunk, then all at once she went crazy! Ever since then she has had a huge/unhealthy boost in energy. This event seems to have jump started something that has gotten out of control over the last nine months. Excessive drinking, partying, shopping, cellphone messaging with friends (100's a day), leaving the house as much as possible even for no reason, constant avoidance of anything that requires her to sit still, and avoidance of family members and friends that aren't "exciting" or don't support her acting wild. Even text…

Did anyone else start feeling this? It's been a little over 2 weeks since my surgery and the last few days my back has started to hurt. I never had real bad gas pain after surgery so I don't think it is that. The pain feels like when I was in highschool and I went up two cup sizes.

  33. Hi, Everyone. I underwent surgery on Tuesday and am now home and sipping and walking and so forth. But, when I sip (and honestly they are sips!), my stomach seizes and spasms. It always passes, I just don't know if this is "normal". As I said, the pass relatively quickly. But, it's an odd (uncomfortable) sensation. I'd say it happens after about 1oz of liquid. Sometimes less than that. It does not happen if I'm sipping constantly so it doesn't seem to be about "fullness." Also, I'm not feeling hunger at all, which i take to be related to the newness, healing, etc. So, I'm just checking in with folks who know more than I. Thanks, Cris

Hiiiiii! It’s me again. I have been seriously slacking on this forum. Let’s see... where to start to catch you up! It was 2 months for me this past wed (June 25th) from my sleeve surgery. I cut my hair off! It’s starting to shed badly now so the really long hair was more of a pain then anything. I figured a short edgy hairdo would help make my hair look fuller. I def like it! My progress?..... I would say on the veryyyyy slow side. It’s frustrating but I trust my body and will listen to my dr who tells me it’s completely normal to stall. He said I’ve actually lost more (overall) then he expected at my 6wk checkup. I’ve been at 197 for 2 wks now. I get my 64ounces of…

Hi all, I'm scheduled to have the surgery in a couple weeks, and aside from my husband, I plan on telling absolutely no one about it (people can be so judgemental!) I'm nervous about all of the questions that will come, like "why aren't you eating anything at my dinner party?" Or "how did you suddenly lose weight so quickly, is that safe?" Or "where have you been for the past couple weeks?" Or "a little bit won't hurt you!" I would love to hear how some of you have fielded these questions, and also if there were questions you were asked that caught you off guard so that I can be prepared for them. As much as I would love to say "none of your business" to family an…

I refused to take anything stronger than Tylenol with codine to ease the pain and now I’m regretting it. I cant sleep , sit, lay down or anything without pain on my right side. Going to the bathroom is a job just getting up and down. Did anyone have this type of pain and discomfort your first week ? I’m 3 days post op and getting in fluids is almost impossible. HELP why did I do this again.....

  37. Hey guys, Yesterday I got my surgery and was in the hospital all day yesterday and most of today. I just got home today. I've been burping but they seem to get getting stuck and not forming a full burp. I'm also so tired all the time, maybe it's because I didn't sleep the day before my surgery and the day of my surgery I was woken every 2 hours to walk. I drank 7 oz of water and 1 oz of pedialite, had half an oz of cottage cheese, 1 1/2 oz lowfat yogurt and I'm sipping my Premier Protein throughout the day. I am so full but I know I need to try to get liquids in. Is this good for now? I plan on eating an egg later. I'm so scared life will never go back to normal.

Hi everyone, I’m having surgery in a few days and getting everything ready around the house. Does anyone have any foods that were staples/favorites for the liquid stage post surgery? Are the any other prep or comfort related items you were glad to have or wish you had had? Also does anyone have recommendations for Multivitamin brands they like, I’m looking for a once a day one.

I will be 2 months post op on Saturday and I am right at half way to my goal weight. While I dont want to feel like I am fighting the clock I realize that hunger will eventually return. Seems unlikely I continue at this pace for much longer. How long did it take you to reach your first goal weight?

I am 14 months post op from a gastric bypass and I have only lost 72lbs!!! I have been at this weight about 6 months post op. I am in the gym 3-4 times a week since April. Lifting weights. And doing cardio. I am a vegan/vegetarian. I have lost inches, but not in numbers. I am all out of ideas on what to do to get me to lose some weight. I am now struggling with my nutrition intake from dieting so I have to basically up my calorie/protein intake. Has anyone else experienced this. Or is it just me ??????

I’ve read all kinds of different things regarding how long to wait to drink water before and after eating.. I have been doing half an hour but today I saw something that said one hour. It’s so rough! What does everyone here do?

  43. My Dr. put me on Actigall a week after surgery because I still have my gallbladder. I forgot to ask them how long I would have to be on it. Is there a certain time period you're on it after surgery or is it determined by how much weight you still have to loose?

  44. Started by LisaCh,

Hi. Tomorrow is my first follow up appointment. I will be five days post op tomorrow. My goal is to lose 60 pounds. I’ve had some issues with extreme dumping so I haven’t been able to drink much as it goes right through me. I’m so worried I’m not going to lose any weight. Has anyone else experienced this? How did you cope? PS I got the sleeve. Thank you in advance.

How long did everyone wait until you started drinking coffee after surgery? I’ve seen many different things, and I know that not everyone follows the rules so I want to know did it have any ill effects? I’m nervous and hesitant to start back even when I’m cleared because they always warn that it irritates stomachs and stuff.. but I used to drink A LOT of coffee. Now that I’ve weaned myself off I’m not sure what it will be like. Coffee fiends! Let’s hear your experience!

It’s been 3 weeks since my gastric sleeve surgery and I’m still having difficulty drinking water! I have tried it cold and Luke warm but I still gag when I drink it. I tried a flavor packet but I hated the after taste (I.e. Crystal Light). I have tried filtered, spring and distilled water. My sleeve just doesn’t like the H2O! Does anyone have any suggestions, because I don’t want to get dehydrated? Also I can’t tolerate Gatorade or Powerade either.

Hoping someone can shed some light on why I might be feeling so sad & weepy. I'm 5 weeks out from GSV and feel great otherwise. I am also diagnosed with depression, but it was under total control before surgery. Do you think feeling sad & wanting to cry is normal, or could my meds not be working as well? I hate to tell my psychiatrist as she didn't want me to have the surgery in the first place. Thanks in advance for your insights.
