POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A

Life after weight loss surgery. Recovery, diet stages, nutrition, labs, complications, and weight regain, whether you are weeks or years out.

  1. Started by avatarkorraa,

Hey everybody! I'm almost 6 weeks post op at this point and for the past few days I've been finding that I've been super hungry all the time. I can normally eat a small snack like a cheesestring or some deli meat to make the hunger feeling subside for a bit but then an hour or two later I find myself getting really hungry again and experience that gnawing stomach sensation. This hasn't really happened before and I've only noticed it being a problem in the last few days. The last few days I've been really good at hitting my Protein goals, and I'm always at about 70-80 grams, whereas before I could only hit 50-60. I'm wondering if that has something to do with it? I'm s…

I'm desperately needing advice from people who have been here before.. my surgery is 3/8 so less than a week away and I have a week long vacation planned to NYC the last week of April. This will put me at about 7-8 weeks post op. I know everyone recovers different but do you guys think I'll be able to fully enjoy my vacation? Not food wise but in terms of walking, not feeling nauseous, not feeling sore, etc or do you think I should try and push the vacation out a little longer?

This may seem like a weird question. I've never stayed in a hospital before and I have to stay 1-2 nights after my surgery. I know hospital policies may differ but I was wondering are you allowed to put on pajama pants and maybe a shirt and bra after you're settled in your room? Because of who I am I've been thinking about this a lot. If people can let me know their experience that'd be great!

  12. Hello everyone, I am up early this morning with pain that I have been experiencing off and on for the past few days. I am over 15 weeks post op, gastric sleeve surgery. A few days ago, I noticed that I started getting nauseated after eating. Yesterday and the day before the nausea led to vomiting a couple of times. I've also noticed that I am not eating as much as usual and I feel fuller more quickly. It is almost to the point where I have no appetite. The pain I am experiencing is pretty bad at the moment. It's across my stomach area, almost under the ribs and it radiates to my back. No changes in my bowel movements... most of the time I am on the constip…

Hello people, wondering if if anyone else has issues with a numb thigh after surgery? It's the outer most portion of my thigh and it's been numb for about 3 days now. When I lay on my back in bed it wakes me up with almost like electric shock or bee sting types of pain which is quite intense. has anyone had this issue? Does it go away? My surgeon doesn't seem too bothered and says it'll probably go away but I don't really like how vague he is

Hi everyone. I am new here and going through the pre-op process. I had my consult with the surgeon today and they found on my US that I have gall stones. He said that they would remove the gallbladder during my VSG surgery. Has anyone else had this done? I'm now worried that the process to get a date for my VSG will not move fast enough and I will end up having to have my gallbladder removed beforehand which will push back my VSG date. Apparently the stones are fairly big and I've been having symptoms for months that I didn't realize. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks

My nutritionist wants only 3 meals a day with no snacks in between. I just feel like we are so limited of the amount of food we can take in, how do we get enough calories?? And is a protein shake considered a meal on its own? Currently still on soft foods. Just looking for soft and regular meal plans throughout the day, ill be starting regular soon.

Growing up we did Fasting all day Fridays and Ash Wednesday, and no meat at all not even fish. Im thinking I can do protien shakes but im not sure if this is the wisest/healthiest. Hello Everyone, Just had my RNY on 2/16/17 and I am wondering it's safe to drink Amplified Wheybolic Extreme 60 unflavored protein from GNC. The front desk associate recommended this one since it has 20g of protein but suggested 1 scoop only. The reason I am asking is because I was doing well with Premier Protein from Costco before surgery but now I cannot stand them. I have chocolate, vanilla, and bananas and cream and they make me want to gag! If it's not safe, any suggestions as to any other brand and where I can buy it? RNY: 2/16/17 SW:348 CW:?

When and how did you know that you no longer needed your CPAP? Since my surgery I have had a ton of energy (had the pressure lowered due to dry mouth) but for the last week or so I feel tired during the day. I am just wondering if maybe I don't need my CPAP anymore? I have an appointment with my sleep doctor on 23 March and I know he had talked about doing a sleep study since I haven't had one done in about 7 years or so.

  50. Hi all, Im new to this forum. Was banded about 10 years ago - had good weight loss and have maintained my weight at 70kg for 5+ years. My issues with my band started just before christmas. I went to have a fill and virtually could not swallow a thing. Had a barium swallow and could see band has slipped so surgeon suggested band removal and changing to gastric sleeve instead. I am booked to have my band removed on Thursday and be sleeved on May 30. Is there anybody out there who has a similar experience to me... I'm just a bit worried as i don't really have much weight to lose - im concerned about how my body will adjust to the sleeve. I guess it already lives very happi…
