I hope to have surgery this month. Here's my current worry: you know when you've come off your hike or your bike or from the garden hot and sweaty and thirsty and you grab that cold bottle of water and gulp-gulp-gulp those delicious ice cold mouthfuls of water to quench your desperate thirst? How in the world am I supposed to take little tiny sips of water after VSG? I've been told I'll never have the capacity to guzzle cold water after a workout again? This is so concerning to me! How do you hydrate well after a workout?

I am currently on a 9 week cut. I'm down about 7 lbs with 3-5 more to go. I have been cutting on a lower carb diet. Macros are a very loose Keto with 50% fat, 30% protein and 20% carbs. My cut ends at the end of July at which time I want to have a planned refeed day and then slowly start reversing out for 8 weeks. Has anyone done a refeed? What did you do? Can anyone give advice on the best way to reverse? How much do I increase carbs and lower fats and at what rate? My hope is to begin a lean bulk after reversing out of the cut.

So, I stopped taking the elevator at work and started taking the stairs. I work on the 8th floor so I walk up and down 8 flights of stairs 4 to 5 times a day 3 to 4 days a week. I work from home on Mondays so I can't do it on Mondays and I am off every other Friday so I can't do it then. Before my RNY surgery I felt like I was going to puke my lungs up on anything past the 4th flight of stairs. Now I can do 8 flights with being just a little out of breath. I love my pouch.

I am post op and have been in a stall for a good bit now. I exercise daily. At least, the very least, I will do the 30 minutes of walking recommended by my surgeon. I am getting in about 1500 calories a day and most of the time 100-120 g protein. Some have suggested that I need to up my intake of protein. etc … But my question is, IS THIS STARVATION MODE A REAL THING???? How can it be a real thing?

So, I went to see my primary the other day and she recommended lifting bar bells and doing squats with bars or kettlebells. My issue is 1. I'm ballin on a budget and can't afford the cheapest gym and 2. there's so much info out there I want opinions from people like me. Where do I start and what weight do I start with? Something I can use at home or make from home. I know guys in jail hook up something with water and bags, but how? heck i'd do that. Them guys are swoll. I just want to tone a little.

Of all the things I expected to suffer in aesthetics from my surgery, I have to admit I kind of didn’t see my bum turning into this totally flat uninteresting thing! I kid you not LEGGINGS fall down with nothing to hold on to. WTH do I do?!? I’m running, I’m doing kettleball swings, I do an obscene amount of squats, and I pretty much use lunges as a viable form of transportation. What else can I do to save my poor bum?!? I know time will tone things up but if there are any workouts you guys can think of I’d be super interested in hearing about them! Literally cannot keep pants up! #saggybottomjeans Any workout advice would be appreciated!

I intend to buy a Pixel 3/3XL this year. Can the Pixel do it's own fitness tracking, or is a separate fitness tracker better (if so, I'd get the Garmin Vivosport). I know earlier Apple phones had fitness tracking, but I don't know how well they worked. Online, it seems most people are looking for devices to connect to their Pixels, so perhaps the Pixels are missing some sensors like a pedometer? I am not looking so much for step counting, but a GPS and pace tracking.

What is the most reliable way to assess body fat? Based on an online calculator (which asks for wrist, forearm, waist and hip measurements + height and weight) my body fat is 26%. My BMI is 26 which is overweight, but according to body fat scales I am at an acceptable body fat level.I am not stressed about the stats - but I am curious. Maybe it's my uneven top/bottom distribution. On my top half it's like every freaking bone sticks out, including my ribs! The bottom half still has lots of cushion. One half built for speed, the other half built for pleasure ?

I'm happy today! After about 14-15 weeks of training I finally clocked a 5k in 36 min 13 sec. My training interval was to be 35 minutes, but I stepped it up today, just making what seemed to be incrementally longer strides than last time, and I was real close to a 5k, so I just went extra minute. I hate running too! But doing it to get fit for another activity/obstacle course (GoRuck.com). But now I might even do a Halloween Zombie run where people are to run/walk. 5k course with touch football flags and try to stay away from "zombies" on the course.

I need to start lifting for power for some martial arts competitions. So, I need to increase weight for few reps. But, wouldn't that require eating to bulk up and break the post op diet, or can I just increase protein? I don't need to "power" lift for all body, just upper body.

I have a funny story that happened to me that I wanted to share because I can't tell anyone I know about this! So I ran 2.5 miles and was all sweaty. Afterwards I had to go to the bathroom so I proceed to do my thing, sat down and slipped off the dang seat because I was so sweaty. All I could do was laugh at myself because I never saw that coming. My coworker (was at fitness center at my office) asked if I was okay and all I could do was laugh and choke out that I was fine, just embarrassed. I waited for her to leave the locker room before I made my exit from the stall. ?

I was cleared last week to start light weight work outs. Prior to getting cleared I was anxious to get started. Now that I can I feel like I'm at a loss. I was a gym rat in my youth, I've done tons of research recently, I've even given advice here to others asking for help. But now I feel like I'm clueless where to begin. Just looking for a little insight from fellow WLS'rs on what you started with. All I can seem to do is continue with walks.

Hey y'all, my surgery is on November 30th. I used to be thinner than I am now (like... 130 lbs thinner lol) but I feel like when I was lighter, exercising wasn't so freaking HARD. I feel like even the smallest amount of exertion and I'm exhausted, and I hate that. I feel like all of my limbs are so heavy and I'm lugging my own body around??? Have y'all found that exercise is any easier post-surgery? I'm planning on starting off with simple walking until I'm cleared to swim, because I love being in the water, and I want to introduce little fitness classes as well. Just wondering what the experiences have been!

It seems that it is starting to take longer to recover. I am wondering what this might be a symptom of. I typically go to the gym 5-6 days a week, on a three day cycle, getting a full range of ligfting within the three days, then repeating. Sometimes I might miss a day, then do two normal visits in one day. Today is the 2nd time in one week I am just skipping because I am still feeling it in muscles I am to exercise from the previous visit (biceps specifically). I don't know if it just a symptom of gradual weight increases, or if other exercises I am doing, is slowing down my overall recovery, and its a further confirmation that I need more protein, or calories or a cha…

I had my surgery 14 December last year and hit my goal (BMI of 25) almost exactly six months later. My weight steadied out about then, perhaps a bit under goal, and my eating is pretty well in a new set of eating habits etc. But as for developing new exercise habits - forget it. Anyway, I decided I need to sort that out too. Getting fit was the challenge. Going from fat to fit! An unattainable goal!! I am an occasional dog walker - but I live up a bit of a hill, so always tried to get out of it because I hate exercising. So, I found this “Couch 2 5k challenge” on myfitnesspal, and downloaded the zenlabs C25k app. I reckoned I had one big advantage - I was REA…

Does anyone know the best way to tone your upper arms? I HATE my upper arms and i want to tone them when i exercise. I've been lifting 10lb weights everynight trying to tone the bottom flabby of my arms.... So far I notice only the top of my upper arms feel more toned. I was looking for some equipment to help me with this.... I want to wear tank tops but won't because i feel my arms are gross. Are these any good? (see below) I notice some say "light, medium, heavy" for the resistance.. I never used one of these.. Has anyone else? Any advice on how to accomplish this (ridding arm flab) is greatly appreciated! THANKS

Hello! My name is Kate, I had gastric sleeve surgery on August 27th, 2018 in La Crosse, WI! I've finally moved onto the pureed/soft food stage, but am on that for the next 5 weeks Anyway, things are going well and I added exercise back in last week. I wear a Fitbit Flex2 because I'm a swimmer and coach and I can go in the water with it. However it doesn't currently have a feature in the nutrition portion where it says how many grams of protein, carbs, fats, etc. and goals. I know everyone recommends My Fitness Pal, but I'd like to avoid creating a whole other account and then enter my info in two separate things. Has anyone found a way around this or do I just ha…

Well, I keep my options open, and I've been doing different things for activity. I go to the gym about 2 times a week, workout in my room once a week walk in my room or outside when it's not humid as hell. I've started lifting weights, I can see the gradual progress and I'm just blah about it. The post-workout high point isn't there anymore, I am guessing it's from the depression that I struggle with and my body trying to find it's new normal like a leveler bubble all over the place. I love being active, and really have not ever felt this way about it, I still like it when I am active but I'm just not getting what I used to out of it. I try classes, I might start th…

Does anyone else here enjoy roller skating? I was just wondering how long you waited to skate after surgery? Also, as you lost weight, what changed about skating? I'd imagine that maybe you'd need to get stickier wheels at some point or even smaller skates... was there anything that changed about your skating when you got lighter? I have to say, I love love love roller skating... it has been a great low-impact form of exercise (as long as I don't fall, haha), and it makes me feel so free, gliding around instead of feeling like the slow and heavy person I am. And it burns so many calories and engages your "core". I'm so excited to get lighter on my skates as…

One of the things I'm most looking forward to about losing weight is getting into jogging/running. Each time I was at the bottom of the weight loss yo-yo, I loved doing 5Ks and building up to be able to jog as much of them as possible using intervals. I never got super speedy, but I was pretty proud of the few I managed to finish under 40 minutes (at over 250 pounds). I am one month post-op and looking at signing up for a couple races to look forward to/plan for/train for, and I'm wondering what kinds of expectations are reasonable. For example, there's a 15K race that takes place in mid-April that looks really fun. They also send out a 12 week customized training p…

So...I currently weigh 138 at 5'1". I have no idea what my accurate BF% is because I've lost 130 lbs this year thanks to a modified duodenal switch surgery (aka Loops DS/SIPS) that also helped address my PCOS symptoms. Oddly enough, I'm a size 2/4 at this height and weight. I have a lot of loose skin, some of which I'm getting addressed at the end of September with a tummy tuck and brachioplasty, so I'm hoping to lose some more inches that way and get a more realistic understanding of my weight and measurements (although I'll still have loose skin left on my thighs and butt and boobs, but my stomach and arms are definitely the biggest problems.) My cals are a bi…

I wanted to share the best gym experience I have found for anyone looking to take their workouts to the next level. About 4 months post op I wanted to increase from just cardio to something that would build strength etc. I am so lucky they had just opened a Burn Boot Camp in my area. The concept is a 45 minute high intensity workout led by a trainer. The majority of classes are women only and they offer free child care at many. This community of women has pushed me and encouraged me and held me accountable. After my surgery I was having trouble finding friends who embraced a more active lifestyle and this group was my answer. My very first day I couldn’t even do hal…

Can't believe I even said the headline! Crazy to think that 17 months ago I tipped the scale at 347 lbs and now right around 180-182. I don't want to lose anymore weight! I still have a little belly, which may be quite a bit of skin, but there isn't much else to lose, so my focus must be to building muscle and putting on some muscle mass. Any tips or recommendations would be appreciated.

Ok...so looking for some advice. First off let me start by explaining that my work schedule is hectic...im out the door by 530am and home roughly 530-6pm Im a mom and a wife so that also keeps me busy. I have a home gym with plenty of equipment, free weights, and bars/weights, pull up bar, elliptical, spin bike, treadmill, bowflex, weight benches and powerline p2x machine with the leg press...so no i never go to the gym and meet with personal trainers because i just dont have the extra time. every night i work out...i run a mile, or spin for roughly 30 min (aka my warm up)...just long enough to get the pre work out to kick in. Here is my routine not to…

I just signed up for a virtual run and thought this may be something others would be interested in. You sign up just like you would for a regular 5k race, but you can do it on your own, outside or in a gym, and log your hours when you're done. No pressure! I decided to do it to keep myself motivated to exercise and run, and also to try to get some local running buddies to train with. (It worked, I have a few people who are interested in running or walking!) I work every other weekend and many of the 5K's that are local to me wind up being on my work days, so I thought this would be a great way to do it at a time that is convenient for me. See below for the link/…

Can anyone recommend a trainer in the NYC area that is experienced with working with very obese bariatric patients? I want someone who is not fat phobic, and is comfortable around me, someone who is not judgemental and understands that I have to take it one step at a time because I am so fat and out of shape. I have an elliptical at home and I can only do 12 minutes on it, and I'm ashamed to say that I had to work up to that. When I started I could only do three minutes. Three. My surgeon wants me to start weight training as soon as I am cleared to do so after surgery but I feel like I need a few sessions with a trainer so I can learn to do it safely. I haven't worked out…

Never jogged before. But I have set a goal, with no particular time limit, to be able to jog 5k. I am about 2.5 months post operation, 307lbs, male. I tried a little jogging today during a 2.5 mile walk, and it just felt weird with my stomach gut flopping around. Should I wait until my gut is more diminished? I don't want to make any future excessive skin worse, and it might even be a bad rythm to have a gut bouncing around. Sent from my XT1609 using BariatricPal mobile app
